My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 267
Chapter 267 What Is He Planning to Do?
Mu Yu and Rong Ying were simultaneously startled by that. When they whipped their heads around to look, they saw a worried Qin Xiaozhi entering the ward.
“Grandpa? Why are you here?” Mu Yu asked, her voice hoarse as she made to get off the bed. She accidentally tugged at her wounds as she did so, and the pain made her suck in a breath.
“Careful!”
As Rong Ying hastily helped her, Qin Xiaozhi also advised her against it; his heart broke for her. “Don’t get up from bed! Don’t move! Just lie down!”
As he spoke, he quickly stepped forward with the help of his cane.
“Slow down, Grandpa!” Mu Yu pushed Rong Ying away, gesturing for the other woman to help Qin Xiaozhi instead.
Rong Ying quickly released Mu Yu and hastily got up to help support Qin Xiaozhi’s weight while gently saying, “Please don’t worry, Grandpa. Yu is all right.”
“You’re still saying she’s all right even when she’s in such a state? Don’t lie to me. I know everything!” Having already reached Mu Yu’s bed, Qin Xiaozhi gritted his teeth while he pounded the ground with his cane. “How dare that person lay a hand on my great-grandchild! They must be tired of living! I do not care who is behind this; I will skin them alive!”
“Please don’t get worked up. Here, have a seat.” After Rong Ying helped Qin Xiaozhi to sit next to Mu Yu’s bed, she quickly got him a cup of tea.
Qin Xiaozhi did not take the cup. Instead, he put down his cane and grabbed Mu Yu’s hand; regret was written all over his face as he looked at her and apologized, “Yu, it’s the Qin Family’s fault for not protecting you properly, causing you to get hurt so extensively. I feel guilty.”
Mu Yu repeatedly shook her head. “Grandpa, please don’t be like this. This has nothing to do with you. Besides, I’m not hurt as badly as you think I am.”
As she spoke, she forced a smile onto her face. At the same time, she shot a glance at Rong Ying.
Rong Ying understood what Mu Yu was conveying; she discreetly shrugged, indicating that she also didn’t know how Qin Xiaozhi had found out so much about the matter.
“Don’t force yourself. Here, lie down.”
“Let me help instead.” Rong Ying quickly stepped forward to stop Qin Xiaozhi before carefully helping Mu Yu to lie down.
“Yu, listen to Ying and rest well. Leave everything else to me. I will certainly get justice for you and my poor great-grandchild!” At the word ‘great-grandchild’, Qin Xiaozhi choked up. Tears glinted in his eyes.
He kept pretending to be clueless that Mu Yu wasn’t pregnant, and he even expressed his excitement for his future great-grandchild to put some pressure on Mu Yu and Qin Jinhuan multiple times. He never expected for this to happen just as his wish was about to come true.
That night, Qi Hao had come to his room with a heavy expression, informing him that he had something important to tell Qin Xiaozhi. Qi Hao had first gotten him to gather himself, only willing to speak once he had made the necessary mental preparations. Initially, he thought that there had been another terror attack at the company. Upon hearing Qi Hao say that the incident concerned Qin Jinhuan and Mu Yu, Qin Xiaozhi assumed that the young couple had gotten into an ugly fight. Just as he wondered why they were arguing, Qi Hao told him about Mu Yu’s pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage, causing him to immediately come crashing down all the way to hell after his brief stint on cloud nine. His heart boiled like water on a rolling boil.
Ever since Qin Jinhuan became an adult, Qin Xiaozhi had constantly looked forward to seeing his great-grandchildren soon. As long as he didn’t get to hold his great-grandchildren, he refused to kick the bucket. At first, he thought that he would be able to see his wish fulfilled soon after Qin Jinhuan got married, but he never thought that the path to having great-grandchildren would be this rocky.
Although he was angry, frustrated, and worried, he wasn’t any ordinary man; he soon calmed himself down and promptly rushed to the hospital to see Mu Yu, all while getting Qi Hao to describe the entirety of Mu Yu’s accident from the beginning to the end. Following Qin Jinhuan’s orders, Qi Hao told Qin Xiaozhi about the important parts of the incident, but he didn’t tell the older man about the suspected culprit. As such, Qin Xiaozhi didn’t know that Dong Wanqing had already been hauled off by the police; he even ordered Qi Hao to work together with Qin Jinhuan and quickly get to the heart of the matter.
When he reached Mu Yu’s ward and saw the number of injuries riddled all over the body, his heart ached terribly; he raged even more at the mastermind behind the incident. Mentally, he swore to find the perpetrator and severely punish them.
Rong Ying quickly soothed Qin Xiaozhi, afraid that he wouldn’t be able to take the stress. “Please don’t be upset, Grandpa. Yu’s still young, and she’ll soon be right as rain. You’ll get to meet your great-grandchild soon.”
Her words made Mu Yu’s sink, but in order to play along with Rong Ying and assuage Qin Xiaozhi, Mu Yu had no choice but to put on a casual expression.
“Grandpa, these are just superficial injuries. I—”
The door once again swung open forcefully with a bang, making everyone inside the room jolt. By the time they turned their heads to look, Hu Meiling had already charged inside. When she caught sight of Mu Yu, she instantly broke down. She leaped at the bed like she was a madwoman to grab Mu Yu’s hand, and she sobbed the entire time without getting a word out.
Mu Ziyao hastily followed after her. He stood on the other side of the bed, anxiously taking in Mu Yu’s injuries while he frantically asked her about her condition.
Rong Ying was startled from the sudden intrusion, and she hastily consoled them. “Don’t worry yourselves silly, please. Yu is completely out of danger now. She just needs to rest well, and she’ll soon be back to normal.”
“Didn’t you say she was only in a minor car accident? Why is she so heavily injured?” Mu Ziyao asked frantically.
“Who told you guys that?” Mu Yu had initially been hoarsely assuring her mother that she was all right, but she turned her head around to look at her father upon hearing that.
“Huan called us.”
“He called you? When was that?” Mu Yu was surprised. She thought that Qin Jinhuan would keep this a secret.
Why did he openly tell Qin Xiaozhi and her parents about this? What was he planning?
Did he get them to come over and comfort her simply because he was worried that she’d be too upset? Other than that, was it so they could stand up for him?
“About half an hour ago. He even sent a car to bring us here.”
Mu Yu immediately looked at Qin Xiaozhi. “Grandpa, did you also find out about my accident from him?”
“Qi Hao told me. What’s wrong?” Qin Xiaozhi immediately noticed her odd expression.
“Nope, nothing.” Mu Yu chuckled dryly to mask her feelings. “I just felt that he shouldn’t have told you about the accident. Your health hasn’t been great.”
She just had the feeling that this matter wasn’t that simple, but she also didn’t dare to just tell Qin Xiaozhi about her baseless guesses.
“How can anyone keep this from me when you’ve been in such a terrible accident? I should at least be able to ensure that the Mu Family wouldn’t worry.” Qin Xiaozhi’s gaze then fell upon Mu Ziyao and his wife. Guilt was written all over his face. “I wasn’t able to take good care of Yu, and I broke my promise to you. I’ve let you three and the Mu Family down.”
Mu Ziyao—who had been shedding tears out of heartbreak for his daughter—promptly waved his hands upon hearing that. “Don’t say that. How can we blame you? No one could have foreseen this.”
Qin Xiaozhi lowered his head while waving a hand of denial. “If Yu had perished, how can I face Old Mu? I—”
After a series of knocks, the door opened. Qi Hao stood by the door and said in a low tone, “Boss, Chief Rong has arrived.”
Qin Xiaozhi immediately got up and looked at Rong Ying. “Please arrange for a quiet spot. I have something to ask Rong Jian.”
“Okay.” Rong Ying nodded before looking at Mu Ziyao and Hu Meiling. “Yu is still very weak, and she has forced herself to talk for a long while just now. She must rest now. If you have anything else to tell her, you can do so after she’s gotten some rest.”
“Oh, okay.” By the time Mu Ziyao spoke up, Hu Meiling had already leaned forward to help tuck Mu Yu in.
Rong Ying then looked at Mu Yu and gently advised her, “The most important thing for you now is to get some good, proper rest so you can get better. Forget about everything else; don’t let your parents and Grandpa worry.”
Mu Yu understood what Rong Ying was getting at. She closed her eyes, showing that she was following Rong Ying’s orders. It was only then that Rong Yin relaxed and left with Qin Xiaozhi.
Once the three Mus were left in the room, Hu Meiling could no longer restrain herself; she sat down and burst into tears. It made Mu Yu’s tears fall like a waterfall even though she had been forcing herself to hold back her sadness.
“Okay, no more tears. Director Rong said that our darling girl needs her rest. You can’t cry,” Mu Ziyao consoled his wife as he let out a choked sob while wiping his daughter’s tears, his heart breaking into pieces.
“I can’t stop it.” Hu Meiling grabbed Mu Yu’s hand and pressed it to her face. She sobbed so much that words were difficult for her. “My poor darling, my baby. How can I live if you’re dead?”
Mu Ziyao’s expression changed, and he hastily waved his hands. “Don’t say that! Isn’t our daughter fine? She’ll be okay in the future too!”
“Yes, I’ll be fine. I will definitely be fine.” Mu Yu—who had already sat up after some struggling—just wanted to assure her parents, but she couldn’t help bursting into sobs again right after she said that.
Her parents were the two people she trusted the most in the world, and they were the ones she was closest to. Back then when she had some small grievances, she would feel sad when she saw them. Now that she had just experienced the greatest pain in her life, how could she hold back her tears when she saw them?
Mu Yu’s tears stirred Hu Meiling’s heartbreak again. She no longer wanted to keep her emotions to herself; instead, Hu Meiling hugged her and sobbed with her. Mu Ziyao, whose heart ached for his daughter, couldn’t restrain himself either. He bent down and held his daughter and wife, sobbing along with them. Other than heartbreak and crying, they didn’t know what else they could do for their daughter, powerless as they were.
Due to her worry for Mu Yu’s wellbeing, Rong Ying rushed back to Mu Yu’s ward after she had arranged for a room for Qin Xiaozhi. The moment she entered the ward and saw the trio hugging each other all while letting out gut-wrenching sobs, Rong Ying’s nose prickled as well. However, she knew that Mu Yu’s body couldn’t withstand the stress of all this sadness now. As she forced herself to hold back her tears, Rong Ying stepped forward and talked the family into separating. After she briefly explained Mu Yu’s condition to Mu Ziyao and Hu Meiling, she explained to Mu Yu that her condition wasn’t as serious as she initially thought; Rong Ying also told her that she didn’t need to be so saddened by it. However, Mu Yu thought that all of Rong Ying’s words were just kind lies. She couldn’t accept it; she cried ceaselessly, and her sobs got worse and worse. In the end, Rong Ying wasn’t able to persuade Mu Yu’s parents either. Since Mu Yu was nearly out of breath from crying, Rong Ying had no other choice but to call for a nurse to inject Mu Yu with a sedative. It was only then that the ward fell quiet.
After reassuring Mu Yu’s parents again, Rong Ying looked at Mu Yu while the latter was fast asleep. Then, she finally walked out of the ward with some peace of mind.
She thought the reason why Mu Yu was so upset was because she had lost her child; Mu Yu probably assumed that she wouldn’t be able to conceive again too. Hence, Rong Ying didn’t feel too hung up about it because Mu Yu’s injuries weren’t so serious to that extent. Mu Yu had probably heard jumbled pieces of gossip from the nurses and misunderstood the nurses from a lack of context, but Rong Ying couldn’t make heads or tails out of why Qin Jinhuan had repeatedly begged her to keep Mu Yu’s accident and miscarriage a secret from the Qin and Mu families for the time being. On the contrary, he informed everyone about it, including Qin Xiaozhi with his heart condition. Hence, she decided to look for Qin Jinhuan and have a talk with him.
Meanwhile, Qin Jinhuan stood by the french window inside Rong Ying’s office, his eyes fixated on the light reflecting in the glass while his mind wandered.
This was the first time he realized how smart his wife was; she had a meticulous train of thought. This made him somewhat uneasy, but despite his uneasiness, he still carried out everything according to his plan; he was determined to resolve every problem in one fell swoop.
He wanted to…
Bian Zijun knocked on the door and entered. “Boss, the Old Master is asking for you to meet with him.”
