My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 215
Chapter 215 The Scapegoat
“Who do you think it is then?” Immediately, Wen Zeyu understood what he was implying.
Qin Jinhuan did not answer the question. Instead, he pointed at Dong Wanqing’s name on the paper and asked, “Why are you so certain that it’s hers?”
Wen Zeyu pulled out the paper under the first page and showed it to Qin Jinhuan. “I’ve checked her call history. She had a call with the female worker, Liu Xiaoxiang, thereafter Liu Xiaoxiang organized the strike to ask for a pay raise. I have confirmed with Liu Xiaoxiang and she admitted that she was only emboldened to ask for multiple pay raises after the call with Dong Wanqing because Dong Wanqing gave her a detailed explanation about the employer’s stake in between employees’ pay raise and delayed delivery.”
“Are you sure Dong Wanqing was the one who called?”
“I recorded Dong Wanqing’s voice and played it to Liu Xiaoxiang, and she said it sounded like her.”
“Sounded like?”
“She was not 100 percent sure either—she was too focused on what was being said, especially the parts regarding her interest at that time. However, she alleged that she was 90 percent sure it was Dong Wanqing’s voice.”
“Let her listen to Dong Yueyun’s voice.”
“I definitely know you well.” Wen Zeyu smiled complacently. “I’ve recorded Dong Yueyun’s voice for her too. After listening to it multiple times, she thinks Dong Wanqing’s voice resembles the voice in the call more. Hey, do you think it actually matters whether it was Dong Wanqing or Dong Yueyun?”
Qin Jinhuan looked down. Indeed, to him, the two were just like one same person.
“How are you going to settle with them?”
“Them?” Qin Jinhuan raised his eyebrows. “So far, we only have the evidence to prove that Dong Wanqing was the abettor. Did Liu Xiaoxiang agree to be a witness?”
“Yes, she is already on standby. Nevertheless, she was worried about retaliation and thus, I’ve relocated her from South City to Chengbei as per her request. So, how are you going to settle with Dong Wanqing?” Obviously, Wen Zeyu was very interested in this.
“I’ll deal with her according to the company’s rules.”
“Dismissal? Dishonorable discharge? I’m afraid Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun will not allow that to happen.”
“It isn’t up to them.”
“Huan, I understand that you want to set an example and warn the others too. However, since only a few are aware of this matter, what about I give her a verbal warning first? Next time, if she—”
Qin Jinhuan interrupted coldly, “There won’t be a next time.”
“Regardless of who is the mastermind behind this, I believe they will exercise restraint and dare not act recklessly upon our warnings.”
“Not necessarily. Go ahead and publish Dong Wanqing’s punishment on the company website.”
“Huan! You know clearly how much Dong Yueyun dotes on her niece. You’ll intensify the conflict with Dong Yueyun by doing so.”
“The conflict between us is already serious enough, so I don’t mind aggravating the situation.”
“Then…” Wen Zeyu decided to take a step back upon seeing Qin Jinhuan’s stubbornness. “It will be hard for Dong Wanqing to look for another job if we publish her punishment on the company website. What about this, Huan? I’ll ask her to submit a resignation letter and she can clean up her own mess.”
“Just do as I say.”
“Huan…”
Qin Jinhuan lost his patience. “Don’t involve yourself in this matter. Secretary Zhi will get it done.”
He was about to make an intercall to summon Zhi Xiaoyin as he talked.
“Don’t bother, I’ll handle this.” Resigned, Wen Zeyu held down Qin Jinhuan’s phone. “I have been in charge of this matter all the while, so I’ll deal with it and put an end to this issue.”
After Wen Zeyu had left, Qin Jinhuan took out his laptop and wanted to start working. On second thought, he closed the laptop lid, pulled out his phone and made a call to Mu Yu. However, the call was rejected after a few beeps. Pursing his lips, he dialed the number again, but the call was still not answered. He hung up the call in resignation when the voicemail notification emerged.
Perhaps she isn’t picking up the call because she’s resting.
Consoling himself, he turned to call Qin Chengxi. As soon as Qin Chengxi answered the call, Qin Jinhuan became upset upon hearing the laughter of Mu Yu and her grandfather on the other end of the call.
This woman had deliberately rejected his call!
Holding back his displeasure, he asked Qin Chengxi to pass the phone to Mu Yu as he needed to talk to her.
Meanwhile, Qin Chengxi passed the phone to Mu Yu, indicating that Qin Jinhuan wanted to talk to her. However, Mu Yu refused to answer the call. “I’m talking business with Grandpa now and I’m not available to talk to him. Ask him to call me later.”
“Huan, is it something urgent? Yu said that—”
“I got it,” Qin Jinhuan said dejectedly and hung up the call as he had heard Mu Yu’s emotionless response.
Fine, I’ll coax her later tonight. After all, I haven’t been showing much care toward her, Qin Jinhuan thought to himself and thereafter got back to work.
Meanwhile, after leaving the chairman’s office, Wen Zeyu contemplated for a moment and decided to not publish the punishment of Dong Wanqing onto the company website for now. Instead, he went to look for her to persuade her to resign.
“Resign?! Why should I resign?!” Dong Wanqing, who was computing expenses in the office, was stunned and immediately sprang up from her seat. “Wen Zeyu, what do you mean? Who are you to ask me to resign?”
Not expecting her self-righteousness, Wen Zeyu sniggered and tossed the call history report and Liu Xiaoxiang’s testimony to her. “I’m trying to protect your dignity by asking you to resign. This matter can turn out worse if you refuse to repent.”
Dong Wanqing took up the papers and perused it, and her face went pale instantly. “H-How is this possible? I would never do such a thing! I don’t even know Liu Xiaoxiang. Someone must have set me up!”
She pulled out her phone and scrolled through the call history. “Look, there’s no record of me calling Liu Xiaoxiang. I was framed!”
“This call history report was provided by the telecommunication company, so it’s impossible that it’s fake.”
“T-Then someone must have hacked my phone number, or they stole my phone to make the call!”
“The IT department has confirmed that the call was indeed made from your phone, so your assertion about someone hacking your phone is invalid. As for your second assumption… I know you’re a smartphone addict and you rarely leave your phone aside. If someone stole your phone to make the call, how would you not have realized it?” Wen Zeyu paused for a while and said, “Even if it’s true that somebody stole your phone to make the call, he or she must be someone whom you’re close to.”
Dong Wanqing was struck by the phrase ‘someone whom you’re close to’. Flipping through the call history report, a thought flashed through her mind all of a sudden. “Could it be…”
“Either way, the die is cast, so you can either submit a resignation letter and voluntarily leave the company, or wait to be fired. Suit yourself!” Wen Zeyu interrupted her as he was obviously not interested in her explanation. He then took back the documents, turned to leave but paused when he reached the exit and reminded her, “If it is a dismissal by the company, the outcome of the entire issue will be published on the company website. You should know the consequences when that happens.”
Feeling wronged, Dong Wanqing caught up with Wen Zeyu and tried to defend herself. “I was framed! I swear I’m not the one who did this!”
“Go and look for the person you’re supposed to look for.” Wen Zeyu left resolutely after saying that.
On the verge of tearing up, Dong Wanqing immediately called Dong Yueyun.
She had been at the shopping mall with her aunt when the call was made from her phone. She could still recall that she was reluctant to go out due to the cold weather yesterday, and she tried to decline her aunt’s invitation by using work as an excuse. However, Dong Yueyun mentioned that there was a new batch of mink fur coats in the mall, and she even offered to buy her one. Eventually, it piqued Dong Wanqing’s interest and she found an excuse to sneak out to the mall. As usual, she left her handbag with her aunt and started trying on the new coats enthusiastically. In the end, Dong Yueyun even bought her a coat worth 280,000. Dong Wanqing was so happy that she even climbed out of the bed several times throughout the night to admire her new coat. After all, it was the first time her aunt had been so generous toward her.
It was only then did she realize that the lavish mink fur coat was just a trap!
“What’s up? Spit it out. I’m playing mahjong. A seven!” Dong Yueyun’s impatient voice reflected her bad luck in the game.
Dong Wanqing took a deep breath and tried hard to speak in a calm tone. “Aunt Yueyun, did you use my phone to make a call to Li Xiaoxiang?”
“Who’s Liu Xiaoxiang? I don’t know her.”
Dong Wanqing’s heart sank. “The name I said was Li Xiaoxiang. If you didn’t know her, how would you know that her name was actually Liu Xiaoxiang?”
Dong Yueyun was startled, and she immediately acted dumb. “I’m playing mahjong and did not hear you clearly. What’s up with Xiaoxiang? Why would I call her?”
At that moment, Dong Wanqing already knew the score. She sobbed, “Aunt Yueyun, you’re the one I’m closest to, but why did you set me up? Now that I’ve become the scapegoat and the company is going to dismiss me, do you think you will be able to have peace of mind?”
“Little girl, what are you even saying? You’ve got me confused. There, there, I’m still playing mahjong. I’ll call you back after this game.” Dong Yueyun hung up right after that.
Disheartened, Dong Wanqing laid down her phone and stared numbly at the picture of her, Dong Yueyun and Xi on the table.
Ever since her parents passed away when she was five, Dong Yueyun became her only family member. Although her aunt was bad-tempered, had beaten her and even ordered her around like a maid, she still loved her dearly. She was utterly grateful for her aunt because without her, she would not have been able to live a comfortable life. It would also have been impossible for her to attend a university, to be offered a job in Qing Tian Group or to even reach out to Qin Jinhuan whom she had been longing for for years.
“Wanqing, do you want to become the young mistress of the Qin family?” Dong Wanqing could still vividly remember having butterflies in her stomach when her aunt asked her this question.
“As long as you listen to me, I’ll do my best to make your dreams come true.”
She thought her aunt was genuine in helping her, and so, she went to sleep happy every night. Even though she once overheard the conversation between her aunt and uncle and realized that she was just a puppet to them, she did not mind as nothing was more important than her marrying into the Qin Family. Unfortunately, her dream was shattered with Mu Yu’s presence, and she was viciously cursed by her aunt because of that. Despite the fact that she could never become Qin Jinhuan’s lover, Dong Wanqing chose to face reality boldly. She was determined to work hard to establish a strong foundation in Qing Tian Group, at the same time brush up her qualities to seek a better partner. Never did she think that she would be dismissed shortly after only a few days of devotion.
She could not reconcile herself to the situation.
She was well aware of her ability. She would need to start from the bottom again once she was kicked out of Qing Tian Group, and it would be an arduous task to re-establish her current position.
On one hand, it was the aunt who brought her up; on the other hand, it was her happiness in the future…
After giving it a serious thought, Dong Wanqing gritted her teeth and made up her mind.
Just as she stood up and was about to leave, her phone rang. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the incoming call from her aunt. Considering the decision made, Dong Wanqing hesitated for a moment before picking up the call.
“Wanqing, it’s my fault this time round. Please don’t be angry at me. Fret not, I’ll definitely think of a way to keep you in Qing Tian Group.”
Dong Wanqing was surprised at her words. “Aunt Yueyun, do you have an idea already?”
“Mm-hmm. Just wait for the good news.”
Upon hanging up the call with her niece, Dong Yueyun made another call to Yin Anran. “Miss Yin, let’s make a deal.”
