My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 214
Chapter 214 The Truth Behind the Accident
After a few more glances, Huang Bo decided to speak up. “Boss, there’s something I want to…”
“Speak.”
“While I was driving Assistant Yin’s car back to the hotel, I checked her car’s data recorder and found something strange.”
Qin Jinhuan’s resting eyes suddenly opened wide, but he remained silent.
Huang Bo knew that his boss was interested in what he was about to say and didn’t want to beat around the bush, but he was hesitant. “It could just be my own misconception…”
“Just spill it.”
“Yes, Boss. When Assistant Yin was driving from West Bay to the highway, her car’s speed was controlled around 100 mph; this highway is an enclosed section, so she was driving at regular speed. However, what bothers me is that Assistant Yin was about to reach the Liu Family’s farmhouse—the road where she had her accident—when she suddenly decelerated. Shortly after that, she knocked into the highway barrier. After examining the data recorder in detail, no abnormalities had appeared in front of her car, so I don’t understand why she would suddenly decelerate. There’s also this, Boss—you’ve got to listen to this.”
Huang Bo proceeded to play a 10-second audio file from his phone.
Soft piano music rang out, but a few seconds later, the ear-piercing sound of someone stepping on the brakes was followed by a bam and a low grunt. After that, everything went silent—that was the end of the audio file.
Qin Jinhuan looked at Huang Bo blankly. “Isn’t it normal to decelerate and hit the emergency brakes if you were about to crash into the highway barrier?”
“No, it’s not that. Boss, hear me out.” Huang Bo started to panic and sputtered, “Assistant Yin’s deceleration happened before she deviated from her actual car direction! She was driving at a normal speed about 120mph; when she decelerated to about 50mph, she steered her wheel toward the right and knocked into the barrier!”
Qin Jinhuan glowered at him. “Are you saying that she intentionally caused the car accident?”
“I believe that’s a possibility.” Huang Bo didn’t want to come off as rude. He continued, “If she had knocked into the barrier at a speed of 120mph, the car would’ve probably crashed through the barrier even with the help of emergency brakes. Assuming the barrier had a height of at least 20 to 30 meters, even if the car didn’t drive through the barrier, the huge impact would have caused significant damages to the driver as well. With a speed of 50mph together with the properties of Assistant Yin’s car, the situation would’ve been under control. Logically, the car would not have suffered such damages, unless…”
“Unless what?”
“Unless she didn’t step on the brakes entirely. That way, you can create an accident and not cause too many injuries to yourself at the same time.”
Falling deep into thought, Qin Jinhuan furrowed his brows and kept quiet.
Feeling like he wasn’t convincing enough, Huang Bo continued, “Boss, you’ve heard the audio file as well. Typically, one would scream uncontrollably when they realize that their car is going off course and they can’t control the situation. In particular, women with weaker psychological systems would scream long and loud, but we only heard a short grunt from the audio file.”
Bian Zijun, who was driving the car, disagreed with Huang Bo’s opinion. “Assistant Yin is a driver, so when she realized that the situation was getting out of control, she would first think about getting herself out of the dangerous situation; she wouldn’t have time to think about screaming. Screams are a mere generalization of how people would react during car accidents. Assistant Yin grunted not because she was about to hit the barrier, but it could’ve been a sound that her body made unconsciously when she fainted after she knocked her head on the steering wheel.”
Huang Bo was lost for words as he glanced at the frowning Qin Jinhuan who hadn’t spoken since. Feeling like he had overstepped his boundaries, he explained nervously, “I’m sorry, Boss. I’m just saying things as it is. I wasn’t being prejudiced against Assistant Yin or trying to push my personal opinions about her. You…”
“How long have you worked for me?” Qin Jinhuan interrupted his nervous rant.
“Um… T-Ten years.”
“What else is on your mind? Do tell.”
It was obvious that even Qin Jinhuan wanted to know whether there was another story behind the accident.
When he realized that Qin Jinhuan wasn’t upset with him, he sighed in relief. He carefully continued, “According to Assistant Yin, she fainted after she was knocked unconscious, and she only woke up when the emergency care officers came to her aid. I’ve checked with the emergency hotline call takers; the number that was used to dial to the emergency hotline was Assistant Yin’s number, but the caller was a man. We arrived at the same time as the emergency team, but we didn’t see anyone else besides Assistant Yin. I also checked the CCTVs at West Bay car park where Assistant Yin had parked at, and it showed that she left the car park alone. My speculation is that the man who called was a good samaritan that was driving right behind Assistant Yin’s car.”
“Get to the point.” Qin Jinhuan wasn’t interested in all the other irrelevant details.
When the car stopped at a red light, Bian Zijun turned around and asked, “Isn’t it normal when a car accident happens and a passerby gets down to call for help?”
“It should be normal, but I think it’s strange that he used Assistant Yin’s phone to make the call.”
“Maybe he was a coward and was worried about getting into trouble. His conscience could’ve been troubling him, so he took Assistant Yin’s phone to make the call instead.”
“Your logic is justifiable, but Assistant Yin’s phone was actually on the passenger seat! I noticed this when I took her car to the 4S work shop. Think about it—if her phone was placed on the passenger seat, wouldn’t it have smashed forward with the intensity of the impact?”
“Perhaps the phone had always been on Assistant Yin, and the man threw it back on the passenger seat after he used the phone?”
“Alright, let’s assume that you’re right. Here’s another question then; her car’s data recorder showed that the car accident happened last night around 10.30 PM, and Assistant Yin called the emergency hotline at 10.32 PM. But Boss, you received a call from Assistant Yin’s number at…”
Qin Jinhuan took out his phone and checked. “10.33 PM.”
Huang Bo nodded in response. “Let’s assume that after Assistant Yin crashed her car, the man who was driving behind her realized that something was amiss, so he stopped the car by the side of the road and got down to check on the situation. If the car’s data recorder wasn’t functioning, that would mean that the car was in a deadlock. If Assistant Yin had fainted in the car, how was this man able to open the door and use her phone without damaging the car door? Furthermore, he only took 2 seconds.”
Bian Zijun chipped in, “Maybe she didn’t pass out in the car! Maybe she was the one who gave him the phone and told him to use it!”
“If she didn’t faint, why would she claim that she did? Besides, why would she get someone else to call an ambulance for her and call our Boss?”
“Maybe she was worried that if she had called Boss herself, he would think that her condition wasn’t serious enough. Otherwise, the boss wouldn’t have left the young mistress alone in a hurry last night.”
“So, it all boils down to…”
“Oh right, did you manage to check the car that was behind her?”
Huang Bo shook his head. “I couldn’t. I checked the CCTVs at the junction of the highway, and only two cars drove on the highway ten minutes before and after the time of the accident—there aren’t any other CCTVs on the highway, so that was the only way to look for clues. One car belonged to a woman with two kids, and the other was a truck. The driver was a man, and I managed to get his personal information via his vehicle number plate. He claimed that he had driven into a junction just before Liu Family’s farmhouse road and was out of the highway. Besides, the video from his car’s data recorder showed that he wasn’t lying.”
Bian Zijun questioned again, “Maybe that car was already waiting on the highway? Maybe they came in from another junction of the highway?”
“That could be possible, but it would stretch out the investigation’s range.”
“Have you checked Assistant Yin’s phone records in the past 24 hours?”
“I did.” Huang Bo scratched his head. He sounded less convincing as he said, “Assistant Yin only made the decision to look for President Ding yesterday afternoon. During that time, she had called Secretary Zhi, President Ding and President Wu. Then, it was followed by the call to the emergency hotline and Boss’s cell phone.”
“Well, I guess if she had really planned this car accident to gain sympathy from Boss, she wouldn’t have left any loose ends.”
“The biggest flaw in this plan was the time frame between the two phone calls made after the accident. I guess no matter how well you plan things, there’s bound to be a slip up.”
Just then, the car stopped at Qing Tian Group’s basement car park. At that moment, they finally realized that Qin Jinhuan hadn’t uttered a single word in a long time; they both turned to look at him at the same time.
Qin Jinhuan looked as if he had fallen asleep, his body motionless.
Just when Bian Zijun was thinking about waking him up, Qin Jinhuan opened his eyes and opened the car door. He muttered, “That’s all for now, so drop the matter.” He walked away, leaving Bian Zijun and Huang Bo to stare at each other.
“What does Boss mean by that?” Huang Bo was confused.
“Well, maybe Boss already suspected it from before. Anyway, if he doesn’t want us to interfere, then we shouldn’t. By the way, have you returned Assistant Yin’s phone back to her?”
“I have already ordered the staff to send it to her this morning.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
“So, we’re just going to leave things as it is?” After he had put so much thought into investigating this matter, Huang Bo was feeling quite frustrated.
“What do you think? Can’t you see that our Boss is trying to protect Assistant Yin?”
“Isn’t it unfair for the young mistress when the boss is treating Assistant Yin this way?”
“It’s none of our business anyway. Besides, Assistant Yin involved herself in the plan and got herself hurt in the process this time; she didn’t put the young mistress in harm’s way. Hence, I think that’s why the boss is not too concerned about it.”
“Alright.” Huang Bo shrugged. “If she knows what’s good for her, she would stop trying to hurt the young mistress. Otherwise, she would suffer the consequences.”
“Would you let her suffer the consequences? Aren’t you afraid of the Boss?” Bian Zijun chuckled.
Huang Bo brushed him off. “Can’t you tell who is more important to him? If she dares to hurt the young mistress, he would beat us to it.”
“Alright, know-it-all.” Bian Zijun laughed as he punched him lightly on his chest. “Let’s go work now.”
They were chuckling as they walked into the lift.
On the other side, Qin Jinhuan had just reached the office when Wen Zeyu rushed in.
“Huan, the results of the investigation at South City Factory are out.” Wen Zeyu passed him a sheet of paper as he spoke.
When Qin Jinhuan saw the name on the paper, he frowned. “How could it be her?!”
