My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 333
Chapter 333 So That’s How It Is
After leaving Fraternity Hospital, Mu Yu hailed a taxi and headed straight to Qing Tian Building. When she was a distance away from the hospital, she sent Qin Jinhuan a text message to avoid giving Bian Zijun any trouble. She told him she was suddenly craving some crackers, so she wanted to go shopping at the supermarket—after all, she knew that he rarely checked his phone.
Following that, she searched up Yin Anran’s phone number and called her, making her identity clear as soon as the call was picked up.
“Do you need anything?” the woman asked warily. On the other end of the line, Yin Anran was audibly surprised to receive a call from Mu Yu.
“Yeah, I have something to discuss. Let’s meet at Destiny Cafe in 15 minutes.” Mu Yu willed herself to keep calm as she spoke.
There was a brief hesitation before Yin Anran asked, “Can we talk on the phone? I’m a little busy, so I might not have time to meet.”
Mu Yu disregarded her refusal and insisted that it would be difficult to talk on the phone and that they had to meet face-to-face. “You’ll regret it if you don’t come,” she said. Then, she hung up before waiting for Yin Anran to answer. She turned on the silent mode on her phone, shoved it into her pocket, and leaned against the backseat with her eyes closed in hopes of calming herself down.
Around 15 minutes later, the taxi came to a stop in front of Destiny Cafe. She paid the fare and hastily got down to head into the cafe, wanting to find a secluded spot to wait for Yin Anran. To her surprise, the woman had already arrived beforehand and was waving a hand at her from a corner seat. Thus, Mu Yu went up to her with quick steps.
“Why do you want to meet?” Yin Anran spoke the moment Mu Yu sat down. However, her tone didn’t sound accusatory at all; instead, there was a hint of insecurity to it.
Mu Yu proceeded to order a cup of green tea from the waiter, ignoring Yin Anran’s question as she stared at the woman fixedly.
Meanwhile, Yin Anran was a little uncomfortable under Mu Yu’s gaze. She chuckled dryly and repeated her question to Mu Yu.
The latter remained silent until the waiter came with her cup of beverage. She lazily took a few sips before breaking the silence. “Has Dong Wanqing come to see you lately?”
“Wanqing?!” Yin Anran’s face paled and she stuttered nervously, “I-Isn’t she dead?”
“Yes, but her death was a wrongful one. You were her best friend, so she’d definitely look for you if she wishes to be avenged, right?” Mu Yu was sure that Yin Anran wouldn’t directly admit to the truth, so she could only lead her on one step at a time.
Yin Anran didn’t expect Mu Yu to say something like that out of the blue, and panic instantly filled her face. “W-What do you mean she died a wrongful death? Didn’t she get what she deserved?”
Mu Yu scoffed as she stared at the woman. “Shouldn’t you know better than anyone if that’s true?”
“What do you mean by that?!” Yin Anran stood up all of a sudden.
Another cold scoff left Mu Yu’s lips, but her voice was threatening when she spoke through gritted teeth. “What I mean is exactly what you’re thinking right now—it’s exactly what you did as well.”
“W-What did I do?”
“This isn’t something I should tell you, right? Just ask yourself. I bet Dong Wanqing tying you up on the rooftop that day to lead me there was your idea, right? Your ultimate goal was to clear all the obstacles in your way in one fell swoop, right? Also, you ‘saving my life’ wasn’t out of kindness at all, was it? You only ended up doing it because something went wrong in the process—that was why you had no choice but to do it against your will, am I correct?”
As Mu Yu attacked Yin Anran with one accusation after another, the latter slowly sunk back into her seat; she picked up her cup and absentmindedly placed it against her lips before putting it down gently. Then, she pursed her lips and stared at Mu Yu silently. After Mu Yu was done, Yin Anran said after a few seconds, “I really don’t get what you mean. Can’t you make it clearer?”
Mu Yu let out a scornful chuckle. “Stop pretending—I know you got exactly what I meant. Otherwise, I’d never say something as bold as this to you out of nowhere. I might be a forensic doctor, but I know very well what defamation means and the legal consequences of committing such a crime. I’m not one to break the law, so I won’t say anything without evidence. Dong Wanqing’s death doesn’t affect me since I was never close with her, but I can’t turn a blind eye toward my child’s death. You killed him, so I must stand up for him no matter what!”
“S-Stop listening to nonsense from those with ulterior motives, will you? Your child’s death has nothing to do with me! He was obviously killed by Dong Wanqing! Go and ask Rong Jian and Liu Xiaofan if you don’t believe me; they’re the ones who handled this case in the first place. They’re your colleagues—don’t tell me you don’t even trust them!”
“They declared Dong Wanqing as the killer only because Huan and I wanted them to do so; we’ve always known that you were the culprit.” Mu Yu’s eyes never left Yin Anran’s the entire time she spoke. “Why did Dong Wanqing decide to leave so many scars on your face? She must’ve hated you to death, right? To her, the reason she ended up that way was all because you framed her for your own crimes—indeed, she was backstabbed by her so-called best friend! She was such an idiot that she couldn’t tell the difference between friend and foe; in the end, she didn’t even know how she died! You must’ve thought that your scheme was flawless, and you must’ve been so proud of your perfectly executed murder plan, right? It probably wasn’t once or twice that you’ve cursed Dong Wanqing for not living up to your wishes. After all, the way she died wasn’t of use to you; you wanted to use her to kill me and my baby so that she could take all the blame after that. In the end, you’d be the sole winner left standing. However, she didn’t let you have the last laugh. To be honest, you shouldn’t hold a grudge against her at all; you can only blame your horrible luck. To put it simply, you’re just unlucky—no, you’re simply just not as lucky as I am. I was probably a saint in my last life who contributed so much to humanity that the heavens can’t help but look out for me. Even if I get hit by misfortune, it’d end up as a blessing in disguise. For instance, I may have lost my child in that car accident previously, but because of that, Huan became guilt-ridden and started treating me even better—right now, words can’t even describe the love he has for me. If you look at it another way, I should actually thank you; you’ve made Huan realize his feelings for me even though there was a price to pay. It’s all right, though—as long as he loves me and continues to remember our dead child, I’m not worried about when I’ll get my revenge.”
Yin Anran’s expression was horribly dark at the moment, and beads of sweat gathered on her forehead. Never had she expected Mu Yu to say something like this to her. Nevertheless, she didn’t reply and stared back at the woman with pursed lips.
Mu Yu simply continued nonchalantly, “Did you really think I was unaware about Huan giving you permission to return to Qing Tian Group, as well as how you’ve tried everything in your book to appease and seduce Huan? We’ve actually discussed it before he even made the decision; the only reason we never burst your bubble is because I love seeing you flirt so innocently in front of him. I also love watching the disgust on his face whenever you do that. More than anything, I love it whenever he tells me about those shameless and pathetic things you’ve said to him—I just find them so funny!”
The embarrassment Yin Anran was feeling was akin to being stripped naked and made fun of; she felt unbelievably ashamed and frustrated. She pointed at Mu Yu and scolded through gritted teeth, “Y-You’re despicable! You’re disgusting!”
A small smile appeared on Mu Yu’s face. “Being despicable and disgusting is nothing compared to your cruel malevolence, though. You killed Huan’s very own flesh and blood. You know him—how could he ever spare a killer so easily? He only made the best out of his mistake and continued to let Dong Wanqing cover up for your crimes since he wanted to take the chance to suppress Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun. At the same time, he didn’t want you to have it too easy; a few years of jail time can’t possibly put off the hatred in my heart. He simply let you stay so that I can slowly torture you to death—that’s the only way I can be satisfied. However, you succumbed to your own wishful thinking, assuming that he still treasures your relationship with him. You even wanted to gain his pity and get closer to him with the excuse that he’s your brother-in-law; you don’t know how hard I laughed when Huan told me all of this! He said you look awfully cheap whenever you try so hard to get on his good side—so much that he can’t even look at you!”
She’d always thought the reason he never dug deep into her faults was that he still cherished their relationship, but now…
Yin Anran’s face was pale and emotionless, but Mu Yu never stopped firing her with provocative words. “Huan actually planned to pretend to get a room with you in a hotel and take a video of your pathetic debauchery to send it to his friends, but I simply didn’t have the patience to wait. I wanted to see the look on your cunning and ugly little face today! Tsk-tsk… You’re really rotten to the core, but it’s so satisfying to watch you make that face.”
Yin Anran was fuming with rage. “You’re too despicable!”
“This isn’t satisfying enough, though—not as much as doing this!” Mu Yu abruptly picked up the cup of green tea in front of her that she’d taken a huge gulp out of and splashed it all over Yin Anran’s exquisite makeup with perfect aim. Her makeup dissolved instantly; in addition to the few ugly scars, her face became a miserable and pathetic mess in just a second.
“Huan must love to see the way you look right now.” Mu Yu whipped out her phone and swiftly ignored the notification of a missed call from Qin Jinhuan on her screen. Then, she happily tapped into the camera app.
“Mu Yu! You’ve gone too far!” Originally, Yin Anran’s first reaction was to pick up her cup of coffee to return the rude gesture, but the moment Mu Yu took out her phone, she furiously reached out to grab it.
Mu Yu was well-prepared and moved her phone away with a scoff. “Don’t you put the blame on me, though; your lovely brother-in-law’s the one to blame. He’s the one behind all these shrewd tricks. After all, I’m not good enough to come up with any of them. Anyway, I think you should leave An City as soon as possible, or I’ll make sure your death won’t be a peaceful one.”
At that moment, Yin Anran seemed to have picked up on something. She immediately questioned Mu Yu, “Whose idea was it to send me out of An City? Is it yours or my brother-in-law’s?”
“It was his, of course.”
Just as Mu Yu said that, Yin Anran started laughing sarcastically. It was as if she saw through what Mu Yu was thinking. “Don’t think you can fool me! Jinhuan would never force me to resign. He personally told me that as long as I behave myself, not only will he turn a blind eye toward my past actions, he’ll even let me keep my spot at the company.”
Mu Yu’s eyebrow twitched momentarily. “Did he really say that?”
“Why would I lie?” Yin Anran could clearly see Mu Yu’s sense of defeat showing. She felt triumphant after being heavily humiliated earlier, and she became even prouder of herself as she cackled. “I’m still working at Qing Tian Group right now, holding a very important position no less. This alone can speak for how well Jinhuan treats me.”
She knew it—it was indeed Qin Jinhuan who wouldn’t let Yin Anran leave An City! He was obviously fully siding with her, and he definitely had feelings for her to the point where he didn’t even care about the life of his child!
After getting all of the answers she came for, Mu Yu felt chills all over. She no longer had the mood to argue with Yin Anran and stomped out of the cafe at once.
Meanwhile, Yin Anran didn’t move an inch; she simply watched as Mu Yu promptly left.
She could make out Mu Yu’s disappointment and misery from the latter’s reaction. It wasn’t until the final moment that Yin Anran realized everything Mu Yu had said to her was merely a trap to coerce the truth out of her. That was why she put on a nonchalant face and told Mu Yu everything she wanted to know; she didn’t make it too direct, though, so this would have nothing to do with her if Qin Jinhuan decided to look into it in the future.
Yin Anran found it amusing that Mu Yu was beating around the bush. If she knew that the woman would have such a strong reaction toward this matter, she would have tried to expose it to her very much sooner.
She didn’t know who had told Mu Yu the truth, but she truly appreciated the culprit for doing her such a wonderful favor.
Now, she was most curious if Mu Yu would still treat Qin Jinhuan the same after spending so much effort to lay her hands on the truth. In fact, she wondered if she would still have the opportunity to get closer to Qin Jinhuan.
As Yin Anran was fantasizing about what was to come for her relationship with Qin Jinhuan, the man was doing all he could and frantically searching for Mu Yu after not being able to get in contact with her, thinking that the woman had encountered some sort of mishap.
