My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 330
Chapter 330 Qian Daqing
Rong Jian and Feng Rubing stayed in Huacheng for three days before returning to An City with plenty of clues about Qian Daqing.
Qian Daqing hadn’t graduated junior high when he left the Qian Hamlet to work in Huacheng. However, he was lazy at work and always stood up to his bosses, so he was fired from multiple jobs in a row. In a fit of pique, he beat up one of his bosses and trashed the latter’s shop. However, Huacheng was unlike the Qian Hamlet, so he was locked up soon afterward. To get him out of jail, his parents begged almost all of their relatives and friends on their knees and even sold their farmlands to scrape up enough money to compensate the wounded for his loss.
After suffering enough in jail, Qian Daqing learned his lesson upon his release. He did everything possible to cozy up to several gangsters whom he considered quite capable. He ended up joining them, but he was smart enough to not get involved in drug dealing, murder, and forced prostitution—instead, he did no more than engage in gang fights and petty thefts with them. The gangsters around him were jailed one after another; Qian Daqing had also been jailed several times, only to be released soon afterward since the offenses he committed were never serious. As he was experienced and could have his bread buttered on both sides, he slowly became a fairly well-known local bully in the area who came to be known as ‘Brother Tyke’—Tyke was his nickname.
Because of his tall and strong build, handsome appearance, glib tongue, and awe-inspiring nickname, Qian Daqing was surprisingly favored by many young ladies who lived as gangsters like them. Meanwhile, he never rejected any woman who threw themselves at him. Instead, he was happy to flirt with these women, enjoying how they fought for his favor.
Ever since he became a gangster, his parents—who really doted on him—lived a life of fear all day long. Since they were already old and in poor health in the first place, they passed away just a few years later. After laying his parents to rest, Qian Daqing sold his family’s house and the land it occupied in the Qian Hamlet to an uncle, and he never returned to the Qian Hamlet since then.
After that, he was set up by one of his buddies because of some matters with women. As a result, he suffered a great deal twice and was jailed for a total of about six years. When he was released from jail again, he cleaned up his act. Furthermore, as he grew older, he slowly realized how the younger people around him had surpassed his capabilities, so he became much more cowardly.
Then, he used the money he had saved over the years and pulled some strings to buy a house before marrying a woman named Wan Xianhua, who then bore him a son a year later. However, he still loafed around after getting married and refused to do any work; all he liked was drinking, gambling, and chasing women with his so-called buddies.
Rong Jian remarked, “Wan Xianhua was a strange woman. She took no issue with Qian Daqing’s failure to make money and support their family, but she resolutely forbade him to go around chasing women.”
Mu Yu rested her chin in her hands as she responded by asking, “Would Qian Daqing have let her have him under her thumb? He was such a lecher after all.” It was now noon, and Qin Jinhuan and Mu Yu were having a meal with Rong Jian and Feng Rubing—who had just arrived in An City after 11.00AM—in a private room at Gloria Hotel.
Rong Jian knew what Mu Yu wanted to know, so he poured out all the information that he hadn’t had time to tell her over the last few days as soon as he sat down. Upon hearing her question, he took a sip of tea and answered with a laugh, “He didn’t listen to her at first, but after Wan Xianhua threatened him several times, he behaved better and was somewhat afraid of her.”
Mu Yu laughed. “Did this woman disfigure his face?”
“She did disfigure someone’s face, but it wasn’t Qian Daqing’s. In fact, she disfigured the face of the woman who flirted with him.”
Mu Yu snorted a laugh. “Was Qian Daqing scared by that? Wouldn’t that make him too much of a wuss?”
Rong Jian explained, “No, no, no, that wasn’t the reason why he was afraid. Just listen to me—the Qian Family’s spoiling of their children was probably hereditary since Qian Daqing was particularly fond of his son, who was everything to him. Wan Xianhua seized on this soft spot of his. Whenever she found out that he was having an affair, she would climb up the window with their son in her arms, threatening to jump off the building and leave the family with no heir.”
“Was Qian Daqing intimidated by her?”
“At first, Qian Daqing also thought that she was only trying to scare him, so he didn’t take her words seriously. He kept on doing as he pleased until Wan Xianhua jumped off the balcony of their home for real with their son in her arms one day.”
Mu Yu’s heart clenched upon hearing Rong Jian’s words. “What happened in the end? Did they die from the jump?” She deduced that Wan Xianhua and her son must have died from the jump because Qian Daqing was all on his own when he went to Qian Xiaoyu.
“No, they didn’t. The family lived on the third floor at the time, and there was a shed for cars downstairs, so Wan Xianhua and her son fell onto the shed before rolling down. Still, even though their lives weren’t in danger, they were severely injured. Wan Xianhua broke an arm and a leg, whereas her three-year-old son suffered from a concussion due to the fall. Apparently, the first sentence she said after regaining consciousness and seeing Qian Daqing was, ‘If you dare to fool around behind my back again, I’ll jump off the building with Naonao.’ Naonao was her son’s pet name.”
Mu Yu eagerly poured some tea and set the table for Rong Jian and Feng Rubing in the waiter’s stead. “What happened after that?”
“After that?” Rong Jian found Mu Yu’s question somewhat strange. “They left the hospital after recovering from their injuries.”
“No, that’s not what I’m asking—I’m asking where Qian Daqing’s wife and son went afterward. Didn’t Qian Daqing arrive in An City alone? Since he loved his son so much, he should’ve taken his son with him wherever he went! Also, did he conceal his identity because he had committed a crime before?”
“His wife and son—”
“Just take your time and have lunch first. We can talk about it when we’re full,” Qin Jinhuan cut Rong Jian short while placing a bowl of white rice in front of Mu Yu.
Mu Yu pushed the bowl of rice aside while shooting him a glare. “Don’t interrupt us! Chief Rong and I are discussing something serious here, so quit bothering us!”
But Qin Jinhuan wasn’t angered by her words. He replied patiently with an apologetic smile, “The dishes have all been served, so they’ll get cold if you don’t eat them. Rong Jian has a sensitive stomach, so he has stomach trouble whenever he eats cold food.”
“Huh, is that so? Then hurry up and eat, Chief Rong. We’ll talk about it later,” Mu Yu urged. Then, as she realized how she sounded just now might’ve embarrassed Qin Jinhuan, she immediately stopped talking and picked up her rice bowl obediently. At the same time, she said to Feng Rubing, who had been sitting beside Rong Jian without ever saying a word, “Dig in too, Madam Feng! You two have worked hard these days.” She had nothing to worry about in front of Rong Jian, who witnessed how she had fallen in love with Qin Jinhuan as they quarreled, but Feng Rubing was unaware of this. Therefore, she had to show consideration for Qin Jinhuan’s feelings in front of Feng Rubing.
Apparently, Feng Rubing took no notice of this; she nodded with a smile, picked up her bowl, and ate slowly.
“You haven’t eaten much these days. You need to eat more,” Rong Jian said while picking up some food for her.
Mu Yu immediately asked Feng Rubing with concern, “Are you suffering from stomach trouble as well, Madam Feng?”
“Nope. T-The food there wasn’t really to my taste, that’s all.”
Mu Yu became a little suspicious upon noticing the flicker in Feng Rubing’s eyes. Instead of voicing her doubts, she merely shot a glance at Qin Jinhuan, who was picking up some food for her and thus didn’t notice it. It wasn’t until she kicked him softly under the table that he turned to look at her in surprise. Nevertheless, since they were at the dining table, she couldn’t say anything else. When she saw from the corner of her eyes that Feng Rubing was eating with her head down, she immediately darted a look at Qin Jinhuan and lowered her head to eat as well.
Qin Jinhuan looked to his left and right. After smiling thoughtfully, he lowered his head and continued to eat.
On the other hand, Mu Yu was in no mood to eat since she still had many questions to ask Rong Jian about. After taking a few bites, she put down her rice bowl and chopsticks. However, she worried that her behavior would get to Rong Jian and Feng Rubing while the couple was eating, so she chatted with Qin Jinhuan about Qin Xiaozhi’s illness instead.
Upon hearing their conversation, Rong Jian immediately asked, “Grandpa told me yesterday that he’ll be discharged tomorrow. Is that true?” Then, seeing as Qin Jinhuan nodded his head, he was somewhat surprised. “Didn’t Ying say before that Grandpa was very sick and needed to stay in the hospital for a long time to recuperate? Why is he able to leave the hospital just a few days after being hospitalized?”
Qin Jinhuan responded crossly, “He can walk as if on wings even if he were to be discharged today, let alone tomorrow.”
“Oh?” Rong Jian was very curious. “What medicine did Ying give him? It seems rather miraculous, don’t you think so?”
“It’s medicine for the soul,” Mu Yu explained with a smile, knowing that Rong Jian was unaware of Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun’s return. “Xi’s parents have returned.”
Rong Jian was astounded. “They’ve come back to An City?!”
“Yeah.”
“Why have they been allowed to come back? Weren’t they told never to return to An City again?” Rong Jian looked worried. He was worried about Qin Chengxi—who had lived under Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun’s oppression since she was a child—and Mu Yu, whom the couple considered a thorn in their flesh.
Since she feared that Qin Jinhuan would change his mind and drive Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun away, which would cause Qin Xiaozhi’s condition to take a turn for the worse, Mu Yu hurriedly evaded the key issues. Instead, she explained softly, “They’ve sworn in front of Grandpa that they will definitely know their place and behave themselves in the future. They sounded very sincere to me, so I think they probably have learned their lesson, which might have something to do with their pathetic circumstances these days.”
Rong Jian looked unconvinced, though. “In that case, why am I so full of misgivings about them?”
Mu Yu reassured him and said, “Don’t worry. Huan has gotten someone to monitor them 24/7 anyway. Besides, he isn’t letting them work at the company, so they definitely won’t be able to play any tricks.”
“Oh, that’s more like it.” Only then did Rong Jian’s expression relax somewhat. He then turned to look at Feng Rubing and said in a soft voice, “I’ll drive you home for a rest after the meal. You must be tired after going around with me these days.”
Feng Rubing, who always valued her work as much as she valued her own life, would have given Rong Jian a flat refusal in the past, but this time, she replied softly, “Okay.” This made Mu Yu even more suspicious, but she couldn’t ask Feng Rubing something that the latter didn’t disclose.
Rong Jian then stood up and helped Feng Rubing to take her handbag as he suggested to Mu Yu, “Yu, whatever you want to talk about, let’s talk about it later. I have to get back to the office and report my findings to Director Gu.”
However, Mu Yu chose to play gooseberry in order to learn about the situation sooner. “Why don’t you give me a ride as well? I’ll be going back to the bureau too.”
Qin Jinhuan responded, “I’ll drive you to your office.”
“Don’t you have many things to attend to at your company? Just go ahead with your work. If you finish your work earlier, you may come over and pick me up this evening so that we can visit Grandpa together.”
Qin Jinhuan did have many matters to deal with at his company, and he trusted Rong Jian very much, so he didn’t insist after hearing Mu Yu’s words. He walked to the hotel’s entrance with them and waited until they had left before leaving on his own.
On the other hand, Rong Jian knew why Mu Yu had wanted to ride in his car. Instead of waiting for her to ask him questions, he spoke first after starting his car, telling her all the important things about Qian Daqing that he hadn’t finished telling her just now.
It turned out that six years ago, Qian Daqing sold his house, left Huacheng with his wife and son, and moved to Taihe City, which was hundreds of kilometers away. Not long after settling there, he began sleeping around again. He frequented the bars at midnight, and whenever he saw a woman who was pretty and dead drunk, he would pose as her family member and take her to a hotel nearby to rape her. He had no scruples about doing so, knowing that those women would only resign themselves to their bad luck after being forced to keep their grievances to themselves under such circumstances.
One night, he got drunk and was on his way home when he saw a gorgeous young lady walking alone. His lustful desire instantly got the better of him, and when he saw there was nobody else around, he forcibly dragged the lady to the foot of the dam and raped her. However, he didn’t expect that this young lady was the only daughter of Baldhead Liu, an underworld boss in the area. The next day, Baldhead Liu and his men found Qian Daqing’s home and took him and his family to an uninhabited island. There, he threw Qian Daqing’s son to death in front of him, whereas the other men raped and killed Qian Daqing’s wife. After severing Qian Daqing’s tendons, they tied him to a boulder and threw the family of three into the river.
At last, Rong Jian said, “As for how he had narrowly escaped death, perhaps he and Qian Xiaoyu are the only ones who know the exact reason, but the woman is being too tight-lipped about it. In any case, not only did Qian Daqing survive the ordeal, he even came to An City, found Qian Xiaoyu, and started afresh in life under a new identity. He must have concealed his identity to hide from Baldhead Liu. Back when I sought help from the police of Huacheng, I only asked them to search the list of missing persons. Besides, I thought Qian Daqing was only 34 years old, and he looked much fatter than he had been in the past, so I nearly missed an important clue.”
“In that case, could Baldhead Liu be somehow connected to the murders that happened over the past few days?”
“Fan has gone to Taihe City specifically to look into this matter, and I’ll email you the information about Baldhead Liu later. Yu, please wait a minute in the car while I escort Rubing upstairs.” Rong Jian insisted on escorting Feng Rubing upstairs despite the latter repeatedly saying it wasn’t necessary.
Mu Yu didn’t mind being alone in the car, though; she compared her notebook with what Rong Jian had just said as she speculated Baldhead Liu’s possible connection to the four murders. Just then, her cell phone beeped with an incoming text message, so she casually took out her phone and opened the message to read it. However, the string of narrative words in it blew her mind like a bomb, causing her to feel dizzy and terror-stricken.
