My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 296
Chapter 296 Suburban Getaway
A warm breeze caressed one’s cheeks while flowers bloomed beautifully outside, for spring had arrived once again.
When the first ray of sunlight peeked through the curtains, Mu Yu rose up from the bed excitedly the moment she opened her eyes.
Meanwhile, Qin Jinhuan stirred from the movement and stared at her in surprise. “What’s the matter?”
“It’s a new day. Time to get up,” she urged him as she put on some clothes.
He glanced at the clock and lazily dragged her back to his side. “It’s only a little over 6.00AM. It’s still early, so let’s sleep a little longer.”
However, Mu Yu didn’t want to lie down. She reminded him in an urgent tone, “Have you forgotten that we’re going hiking today?”
“We can take our time hiking later—we’ll be staying the night over there anyway. There’s no need to rush.”
“There are flowers to see and photos to take—of course we need to get there as early as possible! Come on, stop sleeping in. Get up!”
She was kneeling by his side, playfully trying to lift his eyelids which were shut tightly.
Qin Jinhuan gripped her hand and swiftly gave it a yank. All of a sudden, she collapsed face-down onto his chest, and his sleazy voice rang in her ear as he said, “Don’t worry, the hill isn’t that tall. There’ll be plenty of time for you to admire the flowers and take photos.”
“I just want to go out earlier, though…” She poked his chest helplessly in persuasion. “I haven’t taken a step out of the house for more than two months!”
“Didn’t I take a walk with you in the backyard yesterday?”
“The backyard is part of the house too, okay?” She pouted miserably.
Ever since Mu Yu had been discharged from the hospital, Qin Xiaozhi applied for an extended leave for her on his own accord, all to make sure that she could recover completely and bear him a great-grandson as soon as possible. He wanted her to spend some time resting at home without going anywhere.
Since her body was in pretty bad shape at first, she didn’t go against his will and stayed at home for an entire month—after all, she knew that the old man was simply worried about her health. She felt a lot better after that and asked Qin Xiaozhi to let her return to work, but her request was denied. His reason was that her complexion still didn’t have a healthy glow to it, so he felt that her body hadn’t fully recovered just yet. In fact, he even said that she needed to recuperate for another month. She had tried everything she could to persuade him but to no avail.
In the end, Mu Yu felt helpless and decided to ask Qin Jinhuan for help. Little did she expect him to be in agreement with Qin Xiaozhi—surprisingly, he said that her body was still weak, so he wanted her to rest up at home since there weren’t many big cases to take care of at the bureau as of late.
In addition to her parents’ similar wishes, she had no choice but to spend another month at home. Throughout that time, she would flip through her notebook and mull over important points from the previous cases she had handled. Other times, she would give Rong Jian a call to catch up on his investigations. However, she spent most of her time watching television in bed, listening to music, and eating the delicious food that her parents had tirelessly prepared. As such, she gained more than 10 pounds after more than a month of staying at home.
“You need to stop feeding me all that delicious food, Mom. I’m going to become as fat as a pig. Look, I even have a double chin now.” She had taken a look at herself in the mirror the other day and was utterly shocked to see the second layer of fat under her chin.
On the other hand, Hu Meiling comforted her daughter as she cleaned the vegetables by saying, “You look good with a double chin, don’t you?”
Mu Yu pinched her face to express her shock. “I’ve gotten so chubby; how do I look good like this?”
“Your complexion is great, and your face is glowing red like an apple,” Mu Ziyao responded in all seriousness while cleaning some vegetables by the side.
“Being chubby means that your body is healthy and strong. You’ll definitely be able to give me a great-grandson very soon.” Qin Xiaozhi looked very satisfied as well.
Mu Yu couldn’t find the words to argue with the three opinionated elders in front of her, so she returned to her room in resignation. She could only pray for the day of her ‘release from prison’ to come soon.
“Hey! Where do you think you’re touching?” At that moment, Mu Yu was snapped back to reality when she felt Qin Jinhuan’s hand fondling her breasts. She quickly covered her chest and glared at him fiercely.
He giggled as he reached out again. “Your body feels great to touch; I love it.”
She slapped his hand away without hesitation and scolded with her back facing him, “Could you stop smiling lewdly like that first thing in the morning, Mr. Qin?”
However, Qin Jinhuan wasn’t angry upon hearing that. Instead, he hugged her from behind and nibbled on her ear as he whispered, “Ah, that’s my wife—you know what I’m thinking about right away.”
“What exactly are you thinking about?”
“My lewd smile translates to lewd thoughts, of course.” His lips slowly made their way downward while he gently fondled her breasts. “It feels so good to hug you and touch you like this, darling. You’re kind of chubby and it feels great.”
“Hey!” She pushed him away in anger. “Are you making fun of me and calling me fat?”
“No, I’m just telling you how I feel. I like that you’re a little chubby.”
“Stop that nonsense and get up!”
“Just a little longer.” He pressed her down onto the bed.
She knew exactly what he was thinking, so she quickly argued and said, “Hey! Save your strength, will you? We’re going hiking later, you know.”
“Does making love have anything to do with hiking?”
“Does it not? You were messing around until midnight last night, and now you’re doing it again. Don’t let me see your legs go limp halfway up the hill later.”
.
“Don’t worry, I’ll never go limp; I only go hard.” His smile was awfully naughty, and it even looked like he was showing off. “We’re simply hiking up a tiny hill, so what’s there to worry about? In fact, I’ll be fine even if we scale Mount Everest later.”
His hands never stopped exploring her body as he spoke.
Since he was already in the mood, Mu Yu didn’t push him away again; she played along and said mockingly, “I’m afraid I’m not as energetic as you, so you’ll have to carry me if I can’t walk later.”
“That’s no problem.” With that, he pushed her down.
“They’re all going to gather here anyway, so you’ll have to wait even if you get up now,” he said to reassure her. As such, that was why Mu Yu was able to lie calmly in his arms after they had enough fun.
As expected, Li Xianglan came and knocked on the bedroom door at around 8.00AM to inform them that Rong Jian and the others had arrived. Then, the couple finally got out of bed.
The two went downstairs after washing up and changing into their hiking attires.
Rong Jian, Feng Rubing, Feng Qiqi, Wen Zeyu, and Jiang Wenwen were all present. Mu Yu was about to head over to greet them, but Qin Jinhuan stopped her and said, “Let’s have our breakfast first. I’m sure they’ve already eaten.”
“You’re right,” she responded and shouted toward the living room anyway, “Madam Feng, Rong Jian, Wenwen—have you all had your breakfast?”
Jiang Wenwen was quick to answer. “Yeah, we have. We’re just waiting for you.”
“We’ll be right there.”
Mu Yu dragged Qin Jinhuan into the dining room, and they hastily had their breakfast before heading outside with everyone else.
Since they were quite a huge group, Bian Zijun had prepared an RV for the trip.
Everyone was in high spirits, especially Feng Qiqi who was lively and active by nature. Similarly, Mu Yu was just as happy since she could finally leave the house like a bird that was released from its cage. The two were exceptionally enthusiastic, for they chatted and hummed happy tunes non-stop all the way.
Meanwhile, Feng Rubing was also visibly in a good mood today as opposed to her usual quiet and calm composure. Even though she didn’t say much, a smile hung on her face; she even shared occasional looks with Rong Jian. The latter looked pretty cheerful as well. He was eagerly sending water and fruits Feng Rubing’s way with care and concern written all over his face.
About two hours later, the car came to a stop at the base of Mount Anyue, which was around 100km away from West City.
Mount Anyue was less than 1000 meters tall, but the view atop it was beautiful—there was a meadow on its peak, and the view of the sun rising amidst the sea of clouds was a unique and breathtaking scenery. Nevertheless, developments around the area only started within the last two years due to a number of reasons. Apart from that, the place wasn’t highly promoted in the media, so not many people knew of such an attraction. Thus, there weren’t many visitors even during peak seasons. This was precisely the reason why Qin Jinhuan decided to take Mu Yu here for an outing—since there were less people around, the risks of danger were relatively low as well. With that, he could take better control of their surroundings.
Mu Yu had been cooped up at home for two months and was almost bored to death; she had been bothering him every day to take her outside for a suburban getaway. In return, Qin Jinhuan promised to take her on a sunrise hike once she was ‘released’ in an attempt to appease her. Because of that, Mu Yu felt overjoyed for a long time and had been looking forward to it as well, which was why she seemed so happy today.
After getting down from the car, the group started going up the hill on the path with full energy.
Qin Chengxi and Shang Qi were able to walk rather quickly since they were young; before long, they were already a distance ahead of the others.
On the other hand, Feng Rubing hurt her foot a while ago. Although her injuries had long since recovered, the doctor said that she wasn’t supposed to engage in any form of strenuous exercise for around half a year. Because of that, she walked very slowly; Rong Jian, who had plenty of stamina, walked slowly as well in order to keep her company. Meanwhile, Feng Qiqi was anxious when she noticed how slow they were going; she stopped and waited for them from time to time, but eventually, she couldn’t wait anymore. She bid them farewell and jogged after Qin Chengxi and Shang Qi.
Since they were afraid that their pace would stress the others out, Rong Jian told them to go ahead. “Let’s meet at the top.”
“We’ll leave Madam Feng in your hands, then.” Mu Yu quickly grabbed Jiang Wenwen’s hand. “I see some azaleas just up ahead. Let’s go and take some pictures right now.”
“Hey! Yu!” Jiang Wenwen stopped walking nervously and said, “I can’t run right now. I’d like to walk slowly.”
“It’s not your style to stroll leisurely, though!” Mu Yu then took a glance at Wen Zeyu who was next to the woman and teased her playfully, “Is it because Zeyu’s here? Is that why you have to walk like a lady?”
“No, it’s because…” Jiang Wenwen’s eyes darted toward Wen Zeyu as she trailed off.
“Because of what?” Mu Yu stared at her best friend in puzzlement who was stuttering hesitantly.
Just then, Wen Zeyu spoke. “Wenwen is pregnant.”
“Huh?! Since when?” Mu Yu was pleasantly surprised.
Jiang Wenwen looked embarrassed as she replied, “It’s been around two months.”
“Wow! That’s great!” Then, Mu Yu’s gaze suddenly became nervous. “Why haven’t you told me about this after so long, though? I wouldn’t have asked you to come hiking if I knew you were pregnant! Can you actually hike?”
Jiang Wenwen took a look at Wen Zeyu before she said in a low voice, “It’s probably no problem if I walk slowly.”
“If it’s probably no problem, that means there’s a possibility that something might go wrong! No way, you can’t continue on like this!” Mu Yu blocked her way and turned to Wen Zeyu. “You should send Wenwen home. It’s too dangerous for her to do this.”
However, Wen Zeyu was surprisingly calm about it. He said with a smile, “There’s nothing to worry about. Pregnant women are in need of exercise, and the fresh air is good for the baby.”
Mu Yu was a little doubtful about that. “Are you sure?”
“I’ve already asked Ying about it. She said that Mount Anyue is safe to hike as long as Wenwen walks slowly and takes frequent breaks.”
“I see. In that case…”
Jiang Wenwen knew that Mu Yu was worried about her, so she took the latter’s hand and told her to go up the hill first with Qin Jinhuan. “Don’t worry about me. Let’s meet at the summit in a while.”
Rong Jian chimed in cheerfully and said, “Rubing can’t walk fast anyway, so we’re on the same boat here. You guys should hike ahead and prepare lunch; perhaps we’ll be there before the food’s even ready.”
Wen Zeyu added with a smile, “Be sure to make it a scrumptious meal.”
“Of course.” With that, Mu Yu finally let it go. She reminded Jiang Wenwen yet again to be careful with her steps before leaving ahead with Qin Jinhuan.
“Chief Rong and Madam Feng seem to be very in love with each other, Huan.”
Mu Yu couldn’t help but take a peek behind her after they were quite a distance away from the four of them. A chuckle slipped through her lips when she saw Rong Jian and Feng Rubing holding hands as they hiked.
“Yeah.”
“At the end of the day, it’s all thanks to that mysterious killer. He’s the matchmaker who brought Chief Rong and Madam Feng together, after all.” Then, she let out a sigh and continued, “Who’s this mysterious killer hiding behind the scenes, I wonder? Huan, what do you think… Huan?”
“Hmm? What is it?” It seemed like Qin Jinhuan had just snapped out of his thoughts, for his eyes were a little lost as they stared at her.
“What’s up with you?” Mu Yu looked at him in confusion.
“It’s nothing. Something just feels a little odd.”
“What’s odd? What do you mean?”
Qin Jinhuan turned his head and glanced around behind him—Wen Zeyu, Rong Jian, and the others were no longer in sight. He then said, “Don’t you think Wen Zeyu is acting a little strange?”
