My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 286
Chapter 286 Forcing Her Like This
Mu Yu had only just stepped out of the hospital room when Cheng Xiang stopped her. “Where are you going, Young Mistress?”
“I’m going out for a walk.” She knew that Qin Jinhuan would definitely forbid her from going outside if he was informed of the situation, so she deliberately lied to Cheng Xiang. As she did so, she whirled around to wrap an arm around Feng Rubing. “I’m going to spend time with Madam Feng on our walk around here.”
“Mu Yu…”
“Didn’t the doctors say that you need to stretch your legs? I need some exercise too, for I’ve been getting headaches from lying down the last few days. It’s a perfect arrangement,” she interrupted Feng Rubing with a smile while simultaneously giving her a look.
Feng Rubing had a complicated look in her eyes, but she still didn’t say anything. All she did was purse her lips and look at her.
Meanwhile, doubt appeared on Cheng Xiang’s face. “You haven’t recovered yet, Young Mistress. Are you sure that you should get out of bed and walk?”
“My recovery’s going to be slower if I don’t get up and walk. Don’t worry, I just called up Huan earlier. He’s agreed to it.”
Upon hearing that, Cheng Xiang stopped talking Mu Yu out of her walk. He called two of his friends over and was prepared to follow Mu Yu and Feng Rubing into the elevator. To their surprise, they went over the elevator’s lift limit. As such, Cheng Xiang had to ask his friends to take the stairs instead while he squeezed into the elevator.
This was the express elevator that only residents in the VIP wards could enjoy. Soon, the elevator reached the first floor. Mu Yu then helped Feng Rubing over to the entrance of the building before they caught sight of a taxi there. As the passengers alighted from it, Mu Yu seized her chance. She quickly entrusted Feng Rubing, whose leg was still injured, to Cheng Xiang. “I’ll be heading out for a bit, and I’ll take the heat from Huan if anything happens.” With that, she climbed into the taxi and got the driver to immediately hit the road. By the time Cheng Xiang left Feng Rubing aside and charged over, the taxi had already driven quite a distance.
“I’ll take responsibility for anything that happens.” Mu Yu kept repeating those words to herself after she told the taxi driver her destination.
Right then, she received a phone call from Rong Jian. “Mu Yu, Dong Wanqing has brought Yin Anran with her to the rooftop. There’s no way we can set up some snipers around the building, and she is currently very worked up. If you meet her now, you’ll definitely be in danger. It’s better if you don’t come, and I’ll think of another way to save Yin Anran.”
At the mention of snipers, Mu Yu’s heart pounded—what flashed across her eyes was a scene out of a movie as the snipers shot the criminal dead. Moreover, the criminal that collapsed in the resulting pool of blood was Dong Wanqing. Although she never liked that woman, Mu Yu never wanted her dead, especially in such a manner. All of a sudden, she felt a little terrified.
“Mu Yu? Mu Yu, are you still there?” Rong Jian’s tone was frantic.
“Yeah, I’m still here,” she quickly replied after snapping back to reality. She then asked, “Is there any other way to save Yin Anran?”
She greatly disliked Yin Anran, but the latter was a hostage in the eyes of the police. Hence, they needed to find a way to safely rescue her.
“I’m going up to the top of the building now. I’ll talk to Dong Wanqing and see what demands she has. We’ll figure things out as we go after we try to fulfill her requests to the best of our abilities. All right, I’m already there. That’s all for now.”
“Hey, wait! Chief—”
“I’ll call you later in case there’s anything else I need your help with.” With that, Rong Jian hung up on her.
Mu Yu knew very well that it was just empty talk. He couldn’t ensure her safety, so regardless of everything else, he would not let her take the risk. After all, no one dared to gamble her safety. She was the lady of the Qin Family outside of her job as a forensic doctor, so no one dared to put her in the line of danger with her background.
She also knew the dangers of coming here, but she still had no second thoughts. Apart from wishing to help the police rescue the woman being held hostage, she wanted to know why Dong Wanqing had escaped and abducted Yin Anran, uncaring of the police being deployed to capture her. Not only that, she wanted to know why the woman insisted on meeting her.
Technically speaking, she hadn’t been heavily injured. Even if Dong Wanqing was actually responsible for the situation, the police would still follow the letter of the law by jailing her for a few years at most. After all, her crimes were not to the extent that she would be sentenced to death. But now that Dong Wanqing had made such a huge stir, her sentence wouldn’t be limited to just a few years in prison now. If she got careless and the snipers shot at her, the price would be even higher.
Why did Dong Wanqing go through so much danger to see Mu Yu? Why did it come to a point where she was willing to meet her in such a way? Dong Wanqing had to know that this was no different than signing her own death warrant! Was she insane?
Could it be that Dong Wanqing had been wrongfully accused? Did she try to get Mu Yu to meet her this way out of desperation? Was it because she couldn’t take the hurt of being wrongfully accused, or was it because she knew that she would not necessarily get to Mu Yu otherwise even if she had escaped from police custody? Did she want to meet Mu Yu just to explain the actual story behind the matter? To beg Mu Yu for mercy and to clear her name?
The woman faintly shook her head, for she felt that none of her theories made sense.
If Dong Wanqing wasn’t the one behind the car accident and had been truly framed by someone else, she wouldn’t have come to see her. Meeting with Qin Xiaozhi would have been the smartest choice instead, for he didn’t dislike her as much as Mu Yu did.
She suddenly thought of Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun, the couple who had already left An City. All of a sudden, she understood why Qin Xiaozhi could not have helped Dong Wanqing. In fact, she even guessed that the one who let the blame fall on her was him. Right then, Mu Yu couldn’t help but feel pity for Dong Wanqing. From the looks of it, she had been abandoned by everyone else.
Just as she was immersed in her wild theories, Mu Yu’s phone rang. When she saw that it was Cheng Xiang calling her, she immediately answered her phone.
“Mu Yu, are you—”
“I’m perfectly fine. I’m okay.”
“But…”
“I’m just going over to take a look at the situation. I’ll watch out for myself,” she said, once again cutting Cheng Xiang off. She figured that Feng Rubing had probably explained the matter to him.
“Wait for me so that we can go up together. I’m right behind the car you’re in.”
Upon hearing that, she immediately turned her head back to look. True to Cheng Xiang’s words, she saw his car following closely behind her taxi, and she could faintly make out Feng Rubing inside his car too. She immediately waved at them and said, “Okay.”
She thought that Cheng Xiang would have insistently advised her against what she was about to do, so she was rather surprised now. However, due to the matter with Dong Wanqing at hand, she didn’t linger too much on it either. Once she had stowed her phone away, she looked out of the window determinedly.
A little over 20 minutes later, the taxi entered the exclusive neighborhood where Yin Anran’s home was located. Mu Yu got out of the taxi by the path next to Yin Anran’s apartment complex. Likewise, Cheng Xiang quickly got out of his car after he had parked his car next to the road. He then charged over to Mu Yu. “Are you actually going to go up there?”
Mu Yu didn’t answer him, only lifting her head to look at the apartment complex.
The apartment complex was situated in the middle of the neighborhood, and it was the tallest building around. No wonder the police couldn’t bring in any snipers.
She then dug out her phone and checked it to see that she hadn’t gotten any new messages from Rong Jian. She wondered doubtfully if Rong Jian had already placated Dong Wanqing. Right at that moment, however, the sound of crying came from the stairs nearby. It startled her, and she quickly made her way over to see what had happened.
When she reached the foot of the stairs, Mu Yu saw an old woman kneeling in front of two policemen dressed in plain clothes while she cried and begged. “I only have that one grandson of mine. If anything happens to him, I don’t want to live anymore!”
“Calm down, madam. We’ll do all we can to save your grandson. You—”
“What’s going on?” Mu Yu rushed over and interrupted the policeman.
“Doctor Mu, you’re here?!” The tanned policeman was utterly taken aback when he saw her.
“Yes, so what’s the story behind this?” Mu Yu asked as she took in the old woman howling and crying on the ground.
“This lady’s grandson has been taken hostage by Dong Wanqing as well,” the paler policeman explained. “Chief Rong was worried that her sobs would further agitate Dong Wanqing, so he made us take her downstairs by force.”
Mu Yu was startled. “She even took a child hostage?! What on earth is she planning?!”
“She wants to meet—”
Before the tanned policeman could finish, the pale policeman butted in, “This lady looks awful. We should find a place for her to sit down and catch her breath.”
The tanned policeman understood what the other was implying, and he suddenly fell quiet. The two of them then helped the old woman up. However, they didn’t expect the old woman to shove them away and look at Mu Yu. “You’re Mu Yu?”
“You know me?” Mu Yu was astonished.
It wasn’t strange that the two policemen would know her. After all, she was famed throughout the police force as the lady of the Qin Family, but she hadn’t expected the old woman to know her as well.
“Are you really Mu Yu?” The old woman repeated her question seriously.
“Yes, I am.” Mu Yu nodded solemnly.
Just as she was wondering why the old woman had asked that question a second time, the latter fell to her knees in front of Mu Yu and began to furiously kowtow. Mu Yu was thoroughly startled. She quickly kneeled down, and as she forcefully helped the old woman up, she frantically asked, “Madam, what are you doing?”
“Please, save my grandson, young lady. He’s the only one I have!” the old woman begged through her sobs. “My son is gone now. I can’t lose my grandson!”
It turned out that Rong Jian hadn’t reached a mutual agreement with Dong Wanqing.
Now that she understood what was going on, Mu Yu immediately helped the old woman to her feet. “Madam, please get up so we can talk.”
“I’m not getting up. I want my grandson.” The old woman kneeling before Mu Yu refused to get up. She remained on the ground, her hands gripping Mu Yu’s own hands tightly while she pleaded, “Please, meet with that woman and help me rescue my grandson. She said that she won’t harm you—she just wants to meet you. Young lady, I’m begging you. This is my only grandson! As long as you save him, I will even do anything for you.”
“Don’t worry, Madam. I will definitely bring your grandson back!”
“Really?” The old woman’s head whipped up, and her tearful eyes stared straight at Mu Yu. When she saw the younger woman nod solemnly, she immediately kowtowed at her and begged again, “Please hurry upstairs! That woman is on the brink of insanity. If you stay down here, she will certainly hurt my grandson! My poor grandson is only three! He doesn’t know what’s going on at all!”
“I’ll be heading there right now!” Mu Yu couldn’t be bothered to continue consoling the old woman. She immediately got up and rushed inside the elevator.
She could imagine how Dong Wanqing would be like when she was gripped by madness right now. Each minute that Mu Yu wasted meant a higher chance of the old woman’s grandson being in danger.
“God damn it, isn’t holding Yin Anran hostage enough for her? How dare she take a three-year-old child too!” Cheng Xiang cursed Dong Wanqing out inside the elevator.
Mu Yu gave a pained smile. “Maybe she’s worried that I won’t come to save Yin Anran.”
After all, Yin Anran was a love rival and someone she absolutely loathed.
“This woman really is…” A thought suddenly hit Cheng Xiang, and he quickly asked frantically, “Mu Yu, what if Dong Wanqing wants you to give yourself up in exchange for the little boy? You won’t agree to that, will you?”
Mu Yu had a heavy look on her face, but she answered without hesitation, “I’m even intent on saving Yin Anran, so I’ll definitely save that boy too.”
“But…”
“I’ll be careful. Besides, aren’t Chief Rong and the others upstairs too? They’ll protect me.” Mu Yu pretended to be relaxed about this, afraid that she would end up worrying Cheng Xiang even more.
Meanwhile, the latter didn’t say anything else after that. He simply looked at her anxiously.
Mu Yu glanced at Feng Rubing as she stood next to her. She smiled faintly and fell silent after that.
Soon, the doors of the elevator opened. Mu Yu made a beeline for the rooftop, ignoring Feng Rubing and Cheng Xiang who were still inside the elevator.
“Mu Yu?! Why are you here?! It’s dangerous! Turn back now!” Rong Jian was shocked to his core when he saw Mu Yu, and he quickly pushed her toward the stairs.
“Chief Rong, listen to me—”
“Mu Yu! I’ll kill him this instant if you even dare to leave!” Dong Wanqing, sharp-eyed as she was, had already spotted Mu Yu by then. At the same time, she screamed while pointing a sharp kitchen knife at the little boy’s chest.
