My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 265
Chapter 265 Who’s Being Unreasonable?
“What are you doing?” Dong Yueyun looked at Rong Jian in displeasure as he blocked her path.
“You can leave, but not her.” As he spoke, Rong Jian glanced at Dong Wanqing—who was by Dong Yueyun’s side—through the corners of his eyes.
Dong Yueyun scoffed, clearly unconvinced. “You have no proof that Wanqing did it, so you have no right to limit her freedom!”
Since she had Dong Yueyun standing up for her and giving her constant reminders, Dong Wanqing had calmed down considerably. She stretched out her left hand—the hand that was missing the diamond—and explained in an innocent manner. She said, “While the diamond in that glove looks exactly like mine, you can’t conclude that I took Yin Anran’s car to maim others just based on that. There are scores of women in An City who get this kind of nails done. You can just go to any area in the city that has a lot of women and scour the ground; you’ll be sure to find such diamonds there.”
“Indeed, I can’t prove anything with just that diamond, but what about this instead?” Rong Jian took out a photograph and showed it to her. That printed photograph had been taken from CCTV footage; it was a close-up of a beautiful woman, and the diamond ring on her hand was particularly eye-catching.
Although Dong Wanqing still felt slightly panicked, her expression was obviously more composed than before because Qin Jinhuan had shown her that photo on his phone before. “That’s not my ring!” she blurted.
“Is that so?” Rong Jian’s eyes bore into her, doubt written all over his face.
“Of course!” Dong Wanqing’s eyes briefly flashed as she handed off the question to Dong Yueyun, the guilt tickling at her conscience. “If you don’t believe me, ask my aunt. She’s the one who buys my jewelry—she’s never bought me that ring!”
“That definitely isn’t Wanqing’s ring!” Dong Yueyun answered with absolute certainty without so much as looking at the photograph. “Can you not push every single arbitrary thing onto Wanqing?”
Rong Jian smiled blandly, and he proceeded to pull out another piece of paper to show to Dong Yueyun. “These are the appraisal results from the jeweler at Heavenly Shopping Center. They confirmed that this ring was one that you had customized for your niece according to her measurements at that same jewelry shop two years ago. I’d like to know this—have you indeed been a patron there?”
“What?!” Dong Yueyun’s expression shifted slightly, and she promptly snatched the photograph and paper from Rong Jian’s hand to take a closer look. Soon, her doubtful gaze landed on Dong Wanqing.
“That ring is indeed mine. B-But I accidentally lost it a few months ago,” Dong Wanqing stammered.
“You lost it?!” Dong Yueyun exploded. “I spent over 300,000 bucks on that ring for you, and you said you lost it?”
“Aunt Yueyun, please listen to me. I actually didn’t know…”
“Enough!” Qin Jinhuan cut them both off with a frosty command. “Since we’ve confirmed that the ring belongs to her and we know that the driver who rammed into Yu also happened to be wearing that ring, that means that the one who injured Yu and tried to shift the blame on Anran is Dong Wanqing! Zijun, call the police!”
“Hold it!” Dong Yueyun hastily called out to Qin Jinhuan to stop him, having just realized that she had gotten the main point wrong. Once again, she defended Dong Wanqing and said, “Huan, didn’t you just hear Wanqing? She lost that ring a few months ago, so this can’t be used as proof that she hurt Mu Yu!”
Yin Anran stepped right in then to counter her statement. “Are you going to believe that it’s lost just because she said so? Who knows if she’s lying about that.”
Dong Wanqing was furious upon hearing that. “Yin Anran, stop throwing fuel onto the fire. I even told you about the ring when I first lost it, okay?”
Dong Yueyun noticed something suspicious, and she immediately asked Dong Wanqing, “When exactly did you lose that ring? Where did you lose it?”
“I don’t quite remember the exact timeframe I lost it—it was probably two or three months back,” Dong Wanqing stammered. “There was this one time when I went to visit the hot springs at West Bay. Back then, I heard from others that the ring would expand from the heat of the water if I wore it while soaking in the hot spring; the diamond would fall off, so I deliberately took the ring off and put it inside my bag. Then, I put the bag into the same locker as my clothes. Once I was done with my time inside the water, I forgot about my ring; I only realized that the ring had disappeared from my bag when I got home, and I was so frantic that I quickly drove back to West Bay to look for it. However, since the lockers are also in the changing room, there weren’t any CCTVs inside. I have no idea who tampered with my locker, and the management of the hot springs kept avoiding responsibility. They insisted that I must have lost my ring outside of the premises—I even got into an argument with them over it. I was worried that you would think that I didn’t value your present if you found out that I lost the ring, and I was also afraid that you wouldn’t give me jewelry anymore. So, I kept quiet about the ring. I didn’t dare to tell you about it.”
“You’re a moron for even losing your own—”
“If you actually lost your ring, why didn’t you dare to admit that the ring was yours in the first place?” Rong Jian interrupted Dong Yueyun’s scolding and questioned Dong Wanqing.
“I was worried that you would get the wrong idea! Anran told me that the woman who rammed into Mu Yu was also wearing a ring…”
“Hey! When did I say that?” Yin Anran immediately cut Dong Wanqing off. “I just found out that the perpetrator also had the same ring, okay?”
“Y-You clearly said that before! You were also the one who told me about Mu Yu’s car accident!”
“Yes, I did tell you about Mu Yu being in a car accident. Bian Zijun told me about it after he interrogated me about what I was doing that morning. Isn’t that so?” Yin Anran looked at Bian Zijun off to the side. Upon seeing him nod, she continued to speak. “I never knew about the ring, though!”
“You’re lying! You obviously knew about it! You…” Dong Wanqing stopped, having come to an epiphany. Then, she glared at Yin Anran in shock and fury as she tore into her. “You’re framing me! You purposely leaked all of that information to make me panic—that way, my statements wouldn’t match up in order to make them suspicious of me! That’ll make them believe I’m the real culprit! The diamond on my nails definitely fell off at my workplace today. After you picked it up, you used that diamond to plot that car accident and pin the deed on me! No, that’s not it. You must have been planning this scheme for a long time now! Ever since I lost my ring, you dyed your hair the same shade as mine and got it permed with the same beachy waves I have. Then, you picked up my diamond today… No, the diamond on my nails never fell off by itself. You used a tool to scrape it off, didn’t you? I was wondering why I felt so sleepy this morning! You must have spiked my tea with sleeping pills! After you calculated the time, you took that diamond to impersonate me and left the company building. Then, you rammed the car into Mu Yu and shifted the blame to me! And here you are, feigning ignorance and innocence. If Mu Yu dies, I’ll have to pay for that with my own life. Meanwhile, you get to secure your position as the mistress of the Qin Family. Pfft, you’ve cooked up an excellent plan to kill two birds with one stone. It’s even more beautiful than an actual dream.”
Dong Yueyun instantly clapped. “I didn’t know that Miss Yin had such a devious mind. I’m truly seeing you in a new light now! I have to respect you for that! I really do!”
Yin Anran ignored Dong Yueyun, and she mimicked the older woman’s tone to mock Dong Wanqing. “I really had no idea that you’re so skilled at reasoning. Indeed, you’ve kept your skills under reasoning all this time! It’ll be a real pity if you don’t take up a career as a mystery novelist!” Then, she looked at Qin Jinhuan as her tone softened greatly, a sense of unfairness underlying it. “Jinhuan, I swear to you that I truly have no intent of hurting Mu Yu. I never so much as took one step away from my workplace. I did have a headache and ended up taking a long nap inside the lounge—my head was still hurting even when lunch came around! Oh, that’s right! You can ask Secretary Zhi if you don’t believe me! She stopped by my office around 11 in the morning. I had just come out of the lounge then, and I couldn’t even lift my head. She even asked me what was going on.”
“Go and call Secretary Zhi over.”
When he heard Qin Jinhuan’s order, Bian Zijun quickly said, “Boss, it’s already nine at night. She’s long since clocked out and gone home.”
“In that case, give her a call.”
“All right.”
Bian Zijun promptly dialed Secretary Zhi’s number and put the call on speaker. Once he had given her a simple explanation, he got right into the heart of the matter and asked what time she was at Yin Anran’s office, as well as what Yin Anran and Dong Wanqing were doing when she arrived.
Secretary Zhi had already heard about today’s incident, so she was solemn as she answered his questions, only speaking up once she had contemplated for a while. “I reached Assistant Yin’s office around 11.10AM. When I entered her office after knocking on the door, there was no one inside. Just as I was wondering whether I should just place the papers on her desk, Assistant Yin came out of the lounge with her head in her hands. I noticed that she didn’t look too well and that her hair was messy, so I asked her what had happened. She said that she felt very dizzy and that she had just taken a nap. I guessed that she might have caught a cold, so I advised her to get some cold meds from the infirmary. As we were talking, Manager Dong walked out of the restroom…”
Since Dong Wanqing had once been the assistant manager of the cafeteria, everyone was used to calling her Manager Dong.
Right then, Bian Zijun interrupted her. “How was she?”
“Manager Dong? I think she was in rather good spirits. She had a makeup bag with her at that time; she had probably just finished reapplying her makeup.”
“What was her hairstyle like at that time?”
“Her hair?” Zhi Xiaojun thought it over. “It was loose, just like how she usually wears it. Her hair was also a little damp, and it seemed like she had just finished styling it.”
Dong Wanqing’s expression had already taken an unsightly turn. Upon hearing that, she immediately butted in to explain herself and said, “I was doing my makeup again because it got smeared when I was nodding off, and I tidied my hair because it was a little messy…”
“Even if you ruined your makeup because you nodded off, why would your hair be messy?” Cheng Xiang countered.
Dong Yueyun immediately defended Dong Wanqing and answered, “She has long hair; lying down to sleep on her desk would mess her hair up. It’s perfectly normal to tidy your hair if it gets messy, all right? If you men don’t know anything about hair, can you not blindly hurl accusations around?”
“Call the police.” Clearly, Qin Jinhuan had run out of patience. “Let them decide which is the truth.”
“Aunt Yueyun! I don’t want to be detained! I don’t want to go to prison!” As she trembled with terror, Dong Wanqing flung her arms around Dong Yueyun and promptly burst into tears.
“Don’t cry, don’t cry! I won’t let you be sent to prison! Huan, about this matter—”
Qin Jinhuan didn’t attempt to humor Dong Yueyun. “I’m leaving this matter to you,” he said to Rong Jian before walking briskly out of Yin Anran’s office. As he called Rong Ying on his phone, he entered the elevator.
In order to avoid having Huang Bo show up in front of Qin Jinhuan, Bian Zijun got Huang Bo to stay behind and cooperate with Rong Jian. He then brought Weng Yun and Cheng Xiang with him to follow Qin Jinhuan.
Since he knew that Mu Yu was already awake and temporarily in good condition, Qin Jinhuan ignored Bian Zijun’s reminders for him to eat despite not having consumed anything for two consecutive mealtimes. The moment he got out of the company building, he made a beeline for Mu Yu’s ward in Fraternity Hospital.
Mu Yu was currently propped up in her bed while Rong Ying sat next to her with a bowl in hand, feeding her something soupy. When Mu Yu saw Qin Jinhuan enter, she abruptly pressed her lips together although she had been eating her food up until now.
“Allow me.” Qin Jinhuan immediately stepped over and took the bowl from Rong Ying’s hand. Rong Ying twisted her head around to look at Mu Yu. Since Mu Yu had a look of disinterest with no trace of excitement, Rong Ying finally got up and left the ward.
Qin Jinhuan scooped up a spoonful of soup and blew lightly on it before pressing his lips gently to the spoon. Once he had determined that the soup wasn’t scalding, he slowly brought it to Mu Yu’s mouth as he spoke gently. “Here, open wide.”
Mu Yu turned away. “I heard that you’ve called the police? Also, Dong Wanqing might be the one who hit me?” she asked blandly.
“Yes.”
“She couldn’t have done this!” Mu Yu’s voice was weak, but her tone was absolutely certain.
