My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 260
Chapter 260 How Dare She Touch My Woman!
“Does she need a blood transfusion or… Hey!” Seeing that the nurse had run away, Rong Jian had no choice but to pause in his speech. Then, he dialed Rong Ying’s number and told her about Mu Yu’s condition before he asked her to come over as soon as possible. “Does Huan know this?” he asked Huang Bo while hanging up the phone. Once Huang Bo nodded, he quickly said, “Don’t tell Grandpa about this. He has a heart condition and can’t get scared.”
“I know that,” Huang Bo replied while pacing back and forth restlessly.
Rong Jian then looked at the emergency room and sighed anxiously. They seemed to have become regulars at hospitals lately. Qiqi injured her arm first, and then Feng Rubing was hospitalized almost every day; now, it was Mu Yu’s turn to be hospitalized.
Half an hour later, Rong Ying—who had learned about Mu Yu’s condition from the hospital’s director—rushed over with her best gynecologist. They entered the emergency room and didn’t come out until five hours later.
When they saw Rong Ying come out, Rong Jian—whose legs had gone numb from standing—immediately rushed forward and asked her about Mu Yu’s condition. Once he learned that Mu Yu’s life was out of danger, he heaved a deep sigh of relief.
Just then, he heard Rong Ying saying, “However, she lost her baby and may not be able to get pregnant for a short time.”
“She lost her baby? Do you mean that Yu is pregnant?!” Rong Jian was shocked to hear Rong Ying’s words. “Isn’t she just feigning pregnancy to deceive Grandpa?”
“She was indeed feigning pregnancy earlier on, but she’s really pregnant this time!” Rong Ying looked deeply regretful. “Unfortunately, she miscarried her baby and nearly lost her life not long after getting pregnant. By the way, where is Huan?”
“He left on a business trip early this morning, but he should be on his way back by plane right now.”
“Oh,” said Rong Ying as she sighed. “Huan must be heartbroken now that the baby is gone.”
“It’s fine as long as Yu is all right. Yu—”
“She hasn’t regained consciousness yet, and I’ll take her back to Fraternity Hospital.”
Rong Jian promptly caught up with Rong Ying. “It so happens that I’m going back to Fraternity Hospital too. Did you drive here?”
“I’m not used to traveling by police car. I’m only used to traveling by ambulance,” Rong Ying replied icily before she left without looking back.
Rong Jian could only shrug his shoulders in resignation as he looked at Huang Bo. “What about you?”
“I’m going to Fraternity Hospital,” Huang Bo replied. He was scared out of his wits when he heard Rong Ying’s words; at this very moment, he didn’t know where else he could go other than keeping watch outside Mu Yu’s ward and protecting her.
The two men then came to the ward in Fraternity Hospital that Rong Ying arranged for Mu Yu, only to see from afar that Feng Rubing was standing on crutches in front of Mu Yu’s ward. At the sight of the scene, Rong Jian immediately trotted up to Feng Rubing and called her.
“What happened?” Feng Rubing asked him.
Rong Jian came forward to support her. “Mu Yu was involved in a car accident. How did you know that? Be careful.”
“Qiqi was playing at the nurses’ station just now when she saw a nurse registering Mu Yu’s name, so she ran over and told me that.” Feng Rubing didn’t push Rong Jian’s hand away. Instead, she looked worriedly through the observation window at Mu Yu, who had many parts of her body bandaged. “I see that she is severely injured. How could she be so careless?”
“This matter is a bit complicated, so I’ll tell you about it later. Let me help you back to your ward to rest.”
“Okay,” Feng Rubing replied while taking another look at Mu Yu.
They had just taken a step when they heard Huang Bo calling his boss with a quiver in his voice. Once Rong Jian realized that Qin Jinhuan was back, he subconsciously paused in his tracks and looked back to see Qin Jinhuan running like the wind and dashing directly into Mu Yu’s ward. “Go back to your ward by yourself. Be careful,” he said while slowly letting go of Feng Rubing. After making sure that she had steadied herself, he rushed into Mu Yu’s ward.
Qin Jinhuan stood in front of Mu Yu’s sickbed; he was bending over at this moment as he gently touched her hand with one hand while he caressed her bandaged forehead with the other. His eyes were full of tenderness, but his face was as black as thunder.
Rong Jian ran over and asked, “You’re back, Huan? Yu—”
“Who did it?”
“We haven’t found the perpetrator yet. I…”
Qin Jinhuan exploded with rage. “How do you do your f*cking job as the head of the Crime Unit? Why can’t you even find the driver who caused the car accident with surveillance cameras installed everywhere? Don’t f*cking tell me that a surveillance camera is broken somewhere. How much money does the Qing Tian Group donate to the municipal government every year?”
Rong Jian hurriedly pushed him aside and reminded him, “Keep your voice down! Don’t wake Yu up!”
“I’d want her to wake up!” Qin Jinhuan shook him off vigorously before rushing to the sickbed. As he stared at Mu Yu, he said with an unconscious choke in his voice, “I wish she could wake up and look at me at once! I wish she could call me ‘Huan’ and smile at me immediately!”
“Don’t do this, Huan! Ying said that Yu will recover shortly.”
“With which ear did you hear Ying saying that Yu will recover shortly? Would you be able to stand here so calmly if Feng Rubing was the one lying on this bed?”
Rong Jian smiled in embarrassment; he just wanted to comfort Qin Jinhuan, but he didn’t expect the latter to tell him off so unceremoniously. Just when he wanted to say something, the door to the ward was pushed open. Bian Zijun hurriedly came in with a laptop in his hands and said, “Boss…”
“Put it on the table.”
“Yes, Boss,” Bian Zijun replied as he put the laptop onto the table and quickly plugged it in. As he switched it on, he explained, “This part of the surveillance footage shows the vehicle driving out of the supermarket’s underground parking lot and hitting Young Mistress before fleeing back into it. According to the parking lot’s security guards, this vehicle had been parked there for a few days, and the bill issued by the rental company shows that this vehicle was rented out five days ago.”
Rong Jian moved closer to take a look at the receipt while he asked, “Is there any information about the person who rented the vehicle?”
“Please take a look at this video first.” Bian Zijun moved the laptop’s screen toward Qin Jinhuan after clicking on the surveillance video.
As he pressed his lips together with a frown, Qin Jinhuan sat before Mu Yu’s bed while gently holding her hand in his palm. He caressed her hand while staring at the laptop’s screen.
In the video, Mu Yu was about to cross the road to the plaza; a pedestrian overpass was available seven to eight meters away. There weren’t any crosswalks before her, nor could the surveillance camera capture the place, so Qin Jinhuan couldn’t see the scene where she was hit by the vehicle. Instead, he could only imagine how wretched Mu Yu’s situation was at the time by looking at part of the trail left by the perpetrating vehicle and Mu Yu’s injuries.
The perpetrating vehicle’s license number was clearly captured in the surveillance video. However, it was impossible to have a clear view of the vehicle’s driver’s face because the person was wearing a wide-brimmed red hat that completely concealed their face.
While Rong Jian and Qin Jinhuan were watching the surveillance video, Bian Zijun continued to explain, “The rental company’s customer service representative said that this vehicle was rented by a heavily disguised woman dressed in a thick and large cotton-padded jacket who wore a hat, a big face mask, a pair of big sunglasses, and a pair of gloves at the time. She even deliberately lowered and hoarsened her voice while speaking, supposedly because she didn’t want anyone to discover her identity. She probably sensed the customer service representative’s strange gaze, so she explained that her husband was fooling around behind her back and she wanted to rent a vehicle to make it convenient for her to catch her husband in the act. Since it’s the Lunar New Year, she paid double the rent to keep the vehicle for ten days, and today is the fifth—”
Suddenly, Rong Jian shouted urgently at the screen, “Rewind! Replay it!”
Once he heard Rong Jian’s voice, Bian Zijun promptly clicked the ‘rewind’ button.
“Stop, stop, stop! Let me do it!” Rong Jian impatiently pushed Bian Zijun aside and fiddled with the mouse on his own. A few seconds later, he shouted again, “Huan! Look at her hand!”
Qin Jinhuan immediately straightened up and stared at the frozen frame. “It’s a ring.”
“It’s a woman’s ring, to be exact,” added Rong Jian.
Bian Zijun responded, “She must be the woman who rented the vehicle from the rental company!”
“Wait a minute!” Qin Jinhuan stopped Rong Jian, who was about to continue playing the video, and fixed his eyes on the hand in the frame.
Rong Jian immediately noticed that something was wrong, so he asked, “Have you seen this ring before?”
“No, but judging from the ring’s color and luster, it’s probably too expensive for ordinary people to afford,” Qin Jinhuan answered before turning to look at Bian Zijun. “Take a screenshot of this and show it to the jewelers to see where the ring is from.”
“All right,” said Bian Zijun as he nodded. Meanwhile, Rong Jian clicked the ‘play’ button once more. This time, he noticed that the hand wearing the ring retracted in the frame before the driver immediately resumed driving with one hand. Upon seeing this, he realized at once that this ring was an important clue for finding out the perpetrator’s identity.
Just then, Qin Jinhuan spoke again. “Look at her hat.”
Upon hearing Qin Jinhuan’s prompt, Rong Jian immediately clicked the ‘pause’ button again. Then, he enlarged the woman’s hat in the frame. It was a wide-brimmed red hat designed in a weird style that looked similar to a straw hat.
Bian Zijun couldn’t help but lament, “This hat is so ugly! Also, its color is as awful as the red paper used for writing Lunar New Year couplets.”
Rong Jian couldn’t help but agree. “This is also the first time I’ve seen such an ugly hat. I’ll have Fan find out where it’s sold—perhaps it’s a clue as well.”
The three men continued to watch the surveillance video while Bian Zijun described what he had learned. “This supermarket’s underground parking lot has two exits, through both of which the vehicles are able to get in and out. The surveillance camera at the east exit broke down yesterday, and the perpetrating vehicle got in and out through the west exit today. The supermarket’s first floor is a department store; its second and third floors are the supermarket, whereas the cinema is on the fourth floor. Also, there are escalators and elevators in the underground parking lot and surveillance cameras at the exits of each floor. Kun is checking the surveillance videos showing the exits of every floor when the perpetrating vehicle entered the underground parking lot after the car accident. However, I don’t think the perpetrator would get away from here; instead, she probably left through the east exit where the broken surveillance camera is. This is because there won’t be any surveillance cameras until one reaches the main road if they get out from there.”
“Isn’t there a row of shops behind the supermarket? Many shops would have surveillance cameras installed at their entrances,” reminded Rong Jian.
“I’ll immediately have somebody—”
Just then, Qin Jinhuan cut in and said, “What if she drove away from there?”
Bian Zijun was startled for a moment. He then replied, “If she drove away from here, she must have left via the West Rising Sun Avenue. I’ll check out the surveillance footage there.”
“Have you checked Yu’s phone records?”
“Yes, I have. Young Mistress received a call from an unfamiliar phone number before the accident; the ID used to purchase the SIM card is the same ID used to rent the vehicle. Also, this SIM card was purchased over a month ago at a store in South City that doesn’t quite conform to management standards. I’ve asked the staff there, but they have no recollection of the person who purchased the SIM card, and the surveillance videos there are only kept for a month.”
“It seems that this person’s quite well-prepared.” Qin Jinhuan’s face was grim, and his eyes glinted with chilliness.
Bian Zijun went out to make some phone calls, whereas Rong Jian rewatched the nearly six-minute cut of the surveillance video twice. Unfortunately, he didn’t find any useful clues other than the strange hat and the hand wearing the ring which flashed across the screen only for a moment. In the end, he closed the laptop in disappointment and looked at the unconscious Mu Yu. “It’s obvious that the phone call has something to do with Yu’s trip to the Rising Sun Plaza. What excuse did the person use to lure her there?”
“I don’t know.” Qin Jinhuan sat down again on the edge of Mu Yu’s bed without looking up. He merely held her hand gently, but his eyes were full of ruthlessness. He didn’t care what excuse the perpetrator used to lure Mu Yu there; he only cared about Mu Yu’s health and the perpetrator’s real identity. How dare the person harm my woman in such a flagrant way? She must be tired of living! I shall grant her wish then, he thought to himself.
Seeing the look in Qin Jinhuan’s eyes, Rong Jian asked tentatively, “Huan, are you suspecting—”
However, Bian Zijuan dashed inside before he could finish his sentence. “Boss, we’ve found a clue!”
