My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 222
Chapter 222 My Compliant Husband
“Qin Jinhuan!” she cried as she stomped out after him.
“Stop right there, you brat!” an old man’s voice said.
Grandpa? Mu Yu was utterly shocked as her gaze searched around and fell on Qin Xiaozhi. I clearly reminded Rong Ying not to tell anyone else about this when I borrowed Director Qiao’s phone to give her a call. How did Grandpa find out about this? However, she didn’t know that both her parents had called Qin Xiaozhi the moment she ran out of the house; Qin Xiaozhi had been tracking both her and Qin Jinhuan’s whereabouts since then.
“Grandpa? What are you doing here?” Mu Yu no longer attempted to go after Qin Jinhuan. Instead, she quickly rushed forward to help Qin Xiaozhi. After all, it was her fault for getting an old man to step out of the house in such terribly cold weather. However, Qin Xiaozhi pushed her away before turning toward Qin Jinhuan. “Where are you going?” he asked.
The old man, along with Mu Yu’s parents, had already found out about the true story behind the ‘car accident’ after speaking to Director Qiao. Not only that, they were all outside the ICU and had sneakily listened to the couple’s conversation earlier. They were pleased to hear all the sweet and loving exchanges between the couple at first, but Qin Xiaozhi didn’t expect his grandson to lose his temper the minute the truth was revealed. Therefore, Qin Xiaozhi felt the need to step forward and speak on Mu Yu’s behalf.
Qin Jinhuan was clearly shocked to see his grandfather appearing here. He froze for a second before uttering curtly, “I’m going back to the company.”
“She’s injured—why are you going back to the company? Send her home!” his grandfather ordered. He felt a little uncomfortable as his grandfather didn’t even bother giving him a chance to explain himself. “She isn’t even…” He quietly threw a glance toward Mu Yu.
“Ah!” Mu Yu quickly understood what he was trying to say, so she began to pant as she pressed her hand against her chest.
“Yu!”
“What is it?”
Both Mu Ziyao and Hu Meiling exclaimed as they rushed toward her. Nonetheless, Qin Jinhuan was still the quickest to make a move. “Where does it hurt?” he asked. Although he spoke in a cold tone, the care and love he held for the woman was evident through his actions.
She pouted and gave him a pitiful look. “I keep getting really anxious; sometimes I feel like I can’t breathe.”
Qin Xiaozhi, who already understood what Mu Yu was hinting at, quickly stepped up to speak for her. “She must’ve been too shocked after the accident! Also, she might be especially sensitive or weak since she’s pregnant now. Hurry up! Send her back and make her some tea to soothe her. Take good care of my great-grandson,” he ordered.
“Forget it, Grandpa. I’ll go back with my parents. They’ll take care of me,” Mu Yu said.
Right as was about to walk toward her parents, Qin Jinhuan reached an arm out to block her way. “Your parents are old now. It’s good enough that they are able to take care of themselves; how can you expect them to have the energy to take care of you?”
“But…” she protested. She was really close to saying ‘do you think you can do any better than them?’ but she stopped herself from doing so as she realized that it wasn’t appropriate at such a time.
After getting Cheng Xiang to send Mu Ziyao and Hu Meiling home, Qin Jinhuan watched as Qin Xiaozhi got into Qi Hao’s car before collecting Mu Yu’s medicine from Director Qiao. With that, he led his wife into Huang Bo’s car. On the way back, Qin Jinhuan didn’t say a single word as he sat still with a stone-cold expression. The atmosphere felt a little chilly to Mu Yu, and she had no choice but to twiddle her fingers as she had left her phone in her house.
However, she barely got to fiddle with her fingers before Qin Jinhuan reached out to grab her hand over. She suppressed a smile as she looked at him, but he simply shut his eyes without returning the look. She pouted and considered pulling her hand away, but his grip on her was tight enough that she couldn’t pull away even if she wanted to. She rolled her eyes at him although he couldn’t see it, and she snuggled closer to him. Naturally, he slid his body down a little so that the height of his shoulder was just perfect for her to rest against.
Ugh, this brat. She grumbled under her breath while shifting around to find the most comfortable manner of leaning against his body. As it felt a little odd to hold onto her hand, Qin Jinhuan let her go and grabbed her other hand instead. She realized that his grip on her loosened a little whenever she kept still, but he tightened his grip whenever she attempted to pull away. Therefore, she attempted to pull her hand away a little whenever he loosened his grip before giving up when he actually tightened it. This went on and on repetitively like a little game. She did this to make him speak up, but he remained silent until they reached home. Even as they got out of the car, her hand was still held tightly in his.
“Get Lan to prepare some soothing tea.” Qin Xiaozhi, who arrived home right after they did, sternly reminded Qin Jinhuan.
“Alright.” Qin Jinhuan held Mu Yu’s hand as they entered the house and gave Li Xianglan his orders before bringing Mu Yu up into the room. “Go lie down on the bed,” he ordered as he let go of her hand. He then stepped to the bedside and began unpacking the bags of medicine before arranging it neatly on the table.
Knowing that he was about to apply her medication for her, Mu Yu quickly took her rather dirty jacket off before lying on the bed obediently. She initially thought that he was planning to split up with her when he didn’t pick up his phone at noon, so she decided to rush over to his company and question him. However, the cab that she was riding in malfunctioned and came to a halt by the side of the road. Just as she stepped out of the car to hail another cab, someone else’s car suddenly slammed into the cab right beside her. She fainted after a bout of daze, and the next thing she remembered was lying on the bed in the emergency ward. Although her injuries weren’t serious, she had no form of identification on her. Hence, the medical staff had to wait until she recovered a little before asking Mu Yu for a number to contact her family. Before the doctor could fully explain Mu Yu’s situation, Mu Ziyao had already smashed his phone on the ground.
When Director Qiao came over to inform her about Rong Ying, she realized that Qin Jinhuan, who was rushing to the hospital, had no idea how serious her situation was. Since she wasn’t certain if he would get a divorce with her, she decided that she’d get Director Qiao to put up a show with her just to give Qin Jinhuan a test. By the time he began reading his letter of apology—which sounded more like a love letter—she could no longer bring herself to fake it any longer. She expected him to roar with joy after realizing that she was fine, but she hadn’t expected him to throw another tantrum.
“Turn your face toward me.” His voice came from behind her as she had turned her back toward him.
“Are you deaf?” he asked.
“Yeah. I nearly died,” she mumbled without turning around.
“Don’t you dare say anything about dying again!” he shouted as he forcefully turned her body over to meet his furious gaze. She was shocked to see this, but she stubbornly continued to argue with him. “It’s true,” she insisted.
“Mu Yu!”
Mu Yu shut her eyes and ignored him to show him that he was the one at fault. I’m the one that should be angry now.
He scoffed angrily before reaching out to open the container of medicine that the doctor had instructed him to apply for her. Unexpectedly, she turned away to face her back against him once again. “Turn around!” he ordered.
“I’m deaf.”
“Mu Yu! Don’t you want the injuries on your face to get better?”
“Why do I want them to get better? I hope that they become worse; I hope that they all get infected and my skin rots.”
“Is there something wrong with your brain?” he hissed.
“Didn’t you hope for me to be in a worse state?” she asked.
He was furious to hear this. “Why would I hope for that?”
“In that case, why aren’t you happy after seeing that I’m actually fine?” she asked again.
“What makes you think I’m not happy about it?” He threw the question back at her.
Mu Yu, who had been getting into the mood for this, spun around at this very moment as she glared at him with tears in her eyes. “If you were truly happy about it, you wouldn’t look so glum and moody the whole time!”
“Why are you crying?! When was I ever moody to you?” He quickly brushed her tears off. His tone of voice seemed a little harsh as he couldn’t contain his emotions.
“Since you find me so annoying, I might as well just leave!” She pouted and smacked his hand away before getting out of bed.
“Where are you going?” He held onto her.
“Back to my family’s house! I’m never coming back!” she cried.
“Mu Yu!”
“You don’t want to see me anyway! After I leave, you can go meet whoever you wish to meet at night! You can meet any woman you’d like to meet!” she wailed.
“Alright. Stop making a fuss.” He wrapped his arms around her.
“I want to make a fuss! I want to throw tantrums! If you don’t want me to, you can just let me go! It’s not as if I’m trying to cling onto you!” She continued crying.
“Fine—I’m the one who’s pestering and clinging onto you, alright?” Qin Jinhuan felt his heart aching as he saw his lover crying with her hand clasped against her mouth, her breathing uneven and her teeth chattering as she sobbed. He finally softened his voice and said, “Alright, be good now. Let me apply your medicine for you.”
Now that Mu Yu felt like she was gaining power over him, she quickly spoke in a demanding manner. “I refuse to apply my medication until you apologize to me. I’d rather let my injuries get infected and rot,” she said with a sniff.
“Fine, fine. It’s my fault and I’ll admit it. I apologize, alright?” he said dejectedly.
“Do you feel wronged now? I’m the one who feels the most humiliated, okay?” She began to sob again. “I clearly stated that we’d be meeting at the Bureau of Civil Administration if you didn’t appear at 12.00PM; how could you forget something so important…”
“I didn’t forget about it! I just lost track of time!” he insisted.
“What’s the difference between that and forgetting? I waited for you the entire afternoon; my parents prepared a table full of dishes for you, yet you didn’t even bother letting us know about it when you didn’t show up at noon. We couldn’t even call you on the phone,” she uttered.
“Haven’t I explained myself? I…” he started.
“It’s my fault that I lied to you about being in the ICU, but I only did that because you didn’t show up for our appointment. We’ve both made mistakes, so I guess it’s fair to say that we’re even! Yet, you acted all moody and glum once you saw that I was actually fine; it’s now your fault since you have been acting so aggressive toward me! If you want to spend the rest of your life with me, you have to understand your own mistakes!” Mu Yu forced a few tears out of her eyes as she continued speaking. She realized that her tears were one of the best weapons she had against Qin Jinhuan, but the whole act of giving up on her life seemed to work pretty well too.
As expected, Qin Jinhuan had no other choice but to admit to his mistakes once again. He even coaxed her with the use of all the sweet, loving quotes he found the night before as he was writing his letter.
Mu Yu finally felt better once she saw how anxious Qin Jinhuan was to please her. She then dried her tears before lying down on the bed. Right as he picked up the tube of medication to apply it on her, she bolted upright as she thought of something else. “I want you to fire Yin Anran right now! You promised me!”
“Okay, I’ll fire her tomorrow. Come on, let’s apply your medication first. I’m afraid it might leave a scar if you put it off for too long,” he ordered.
She obediently lay herself down and pulled the thick sheet of Qin Jinhuan’s writing out as he applied her medication for her. “I want you to read this to me again,” she said sweetly.
“Sure.” Qin Jinhuan was quick to agree now that their fight had ended.
“I want to hear it three times.”
“I can repeat it up to ten times if you want to hear me do it,” he said.
Mu Yu flipped the papers in astonishment. “How could you possibly come up with a 6000-word essay on apologizing and recognizing your mistakes?! You must’ve done this a lot when you were a naughty boy in school, huh?”
“Tsk! I was a naughty boy at school, but I was also the teacher’s favorite since my grades were always good. My teachers never told me to write an apology even when I made a mistake,” he said gloatingly.
“Yet, you still managed to cook up a 6000-word essay, huh?” Mu Yu seemed to have realized something as she flipped through the pages. She then poked a finger against his forehead. “Ha! It looks like half of these words are just random phrases that you threw in!”
Qin Jinhuan cupped her face with both his hands after he finished applying her medication. He beamed. “Those aren’t random, Yu; those are all words from the bottom of my heart. It’s all true. Just the fact that I exceeded the word limit by a thousand words shows how sincere I am about this.”
It turned out that he had really put in the effort to come up with 2000 words worth of sweet sayings to please his wife, but the rest of it was just ‘I love you, my dear wife’ written over and over again.
She forced herself to conceal the humor in her gaze as she glared at him. “Don’t you dare make me angry again. Otherwise, I’m going to make you write a 10,000-word essay next time.”
“There won’t be a next time,” he assured her.
“Huan.” She hooked an arm across his neck.
“Hmm? You don’t feel anxious anymore, do you?” He smiled as he gently kissed the side of her face that wasn’t injured.
“Not anymore, but I do feel a little hungry.”
“Ah?!” Qin Jinhuan stood upright as he realized that they hadn’t had lunch. He felt a little hungry himself.
Right then, someone knocked on the door and Qin Jinhuan quickly walked over to open it. Bian Zijun stepped in as he presented a cell phone and said, “Boss, this is the young mistress’s phone.”
Qin Jinhuan took it and turned around when Bian Zijun quickly addressed him again. “Boss, the food has been prepared, and the Old Master is asking for you and the young mistress to go down for a meal.”
“I got it.”
“Also, Rong Jian seems to be urgently looking for the young mistress…” Before Bian Zijun could finish his sentence, the phone in Qin Jinhuan’s hand began to ring—it was Rong Jian.
