My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 220
Chapter 220 Abandoned?!
D-Did… Did I go too far with my joke? Was I too confident thinking that I was the brightest star in his sky?
“What time is Huan coming over, Yu?” Hu Meiling wiped her hands on her apron as she stepped out into the living room. She was shocked to see the look on Mu Yu’s face. “Why are you crying, Yu? What happened?”
Mu Ziyao quickly left the dishes on the dining table before rushing to the living room when he heard this. “What is it? What happened?”
It was only then did Mu Yu realize the tears streaming down her cheeks. Flustered, she quickly wiped her face with her sleeve before attempting to conceal the truth. “It’s nothing. I was just too touched after watching some TV drama.”
Hu Meiling gave Mu Yu’s shirt a tug. “Don’t lie to your mother. Tell me—what happened?”
Mu Yu sniffed as she realized that a kid’s cartoon was being broadcasted on TV. “It’s really nothing, I…” She cleared her throat.
“Is it because of Huan?” her mother asked.
“Ah! It’s past 12.00PM!” Mu Ziyao smacked his own thigh as he exclaimed. “Why isn’t Huan here yet?”
Hu Meiling made a vague guess about what actually went down. “Did you lose your temper at him because he refused to write you that 5000-word report?” she asked.
“I’m sure Huan will get that done!” Mu Ziyao tugged on his wife’s shirt gently while he flashed a huge grin at his daughter. “He’s probably stuck in a jam or something… Hey! Where are you going, Mu Yu?” he called out.
“Yu!” Hu Meiling and Mu Ziyao ran after their daughter until Hu Meiling suddenly realized something. Her footsteps came to a halt and she held Mu Ziyao back.
“Why won’t you let me go after her?” he cried worriedly.
“What’s the purpose of you going after her? You should get Huan to do it! Hurry up and call him!” she ordered.
“Oh, oh! Alright, let me call him.” Mu Ziyao rushed over to the dining table in search of his cell phone while Hu Meiling continued nagging beside him. She said, “I told you to give Huan a call just to make sure that he’d be coming over this morning, yet you didn’t listen to me. Great—Huan is probably taking a step back because of all the troubles he had to go through! If anything bad happens between Huan and Yu, I’m going to blame it all on you!” she grumbled.
“I thought he’d surely come over since he replied to my text!” Mu Ziyao protested.
“He simply replied with the words ‘thank you’ and did not actually say that he’d come! You’re such an unreliable man! If this…” She was glowering when he interrupted her. “Shh, I’m calling Huan now.” Mu Ziyao’s face fell stern as he politely waited for the call to be picked up. Meanwhile, Hu Meiling quickly fell silent as she edged closer to listen to the call.
“He’s not answering,” Mu Ziyao said dejectedly after a while.
“Call him again!”
“Okay.” He dialed the number again, but no one picked up the call. He shifted his nervous glance onto his wife as he said, “He’s not even picking up my call. It seems like he’s serious about abandoning Yu this time! What should we do now?”
Hu Meiling seemed just as flustered and helpless as her husband. “Why don’t we approach the Old Master for help? I’m sure Huan would listen to his old man,” Mu Ziyao suggested.
“That’s right. Give the Old Master a call. He’s the only one who can help Yu right now.” Hu Meiling’s eyes lit up with hope for a moment before she glared at her husband fiercely. “Why are you standing there and doing nothing? Hurry up and call him!”
“Oh, I’ll do it now.” Mu Ziyao quickly dialed Qin Xiaozhi’s number before giving the old man a concise explanation of the entire situation. “Old Master, Yu was a little stubborn with this whole incident. I will lecture her later, but…” Mu Ziyao said sincerely.
“How did this happen?! How can you possibly blame Yu for being stubborn?! It’s all that brat’s fault!” Qin Xiaozhi was fuming on the other end of the line. “Yu is too kind to let him off the hook with just a 5000-word essay. He has to get punished more severely so that he realizes what he’s doing wrong!” he exclaimed.
“Oh dear, Old Master.” Hu Meiling sighed as she snatched the phone over. “Huan couldn’t even accept the 5000-word task; if you want to punish him more severely, wouldn’t he just ask Yu for a divorce immediately?”
“He’d never dare to! Don’t worry. Don’t forget that Yu is still pregnant with his baby. Based on this fact alone, Jinhuan would never abandon her. He’s probably just throwing a tantrum. I’m going to call him now and get him to apologize to Yu.” Qin Xiaozhi confidently ended their call, leaving the husband and wife exchanging awkward glances with one another. They both knew that Mu Yu wasn’t pregnant.
After a while, Mu Ziyao finally spoke up anxiously. “What should we do now, Meiling?”
She brushed him off exasperatedly. “What else can we do? We’ll have to locate Yu first. If Huan really abandons her, we’ll have to bring her home and keep a tight eye on her. We can’t let her get too depressed; she’s our only daughter and I can’t have anything bad happen to her!”
“That’s true. It’s just a divorce; it’s not as if the sky is going to fall down! Let’s go.” Mu Ziyao ran out while dialing Mu Yu’s number.
“Wait! Yu didn’t bring her phone with her!” Hu Meiling cried. As he spun around, he realized that Mu Yu’s phone was ringing in the living room. The two of them let out a huge sigh before stepping out of the house hastily. Despite looking around the compound, they couldn’t spot Mu Yu anyway. They guessed that Mu Yu had probably gone in search of Qin Jinhuan, and he was most likely at his company. Immediately, they ran out of their neighborhood and hailed a cab over to Qing Tian Group.
However, Mu Ziyao’s phone rang as they were on the way out. He joyfully called for his wife to slow down once he realized that Qin Jinhuan was calling. He picked up the phone and said, “Huan…”
“Where’s Yu?” Qin Jinhuan interrupted him frantically.
“We’re looking for her too; she cried while running out of the house earlier. Huan, Yu was being childish when she asked you to write that 5000-word report; she’s actually…”
“Where did she go? She didn’t even pick my call up!” Qin Jinhuan interrupted Mu Ziyao yet again.
“She left her phone at home, but I’m guessing she’s going to look for you,” Mu Ziyao explained.
“Alright.”
“Well, Huan… Hello? Hello?” Mu Ziyao couldn’t hear Huan on the other end. “What’s going on?” Hu Meiling asked as she stared at Mu Ziyao. He showed her the disconnected call on his phone screen and spoke in a frustrated tone. “I don’t know the full story, but I guess Old Master must’ve said something that convinced Huan to contact Yu. I guess he’ll be waiting for her at his company. Let’s go over to take a look; we can be their mediators if they start fighting again.”
“Alright then, let’s go,” she replied. The two of them proceeded to rush out of their housing area before hailing a cab to Qing Tian Group’s office building immediately. There was a slight jam on their way there due to a road accident, and both husband and wife were extremely anxious as they waited in the car. Fortunately, the traffic police handled the situation efficiently and the roads were cleared in no time.
Finally, Mu Yu’s parents arrived at the lobby of Qing Tian Group. They approached the bodyguards to ask if Mu Yu had arrived at the company, but the bodyguards weren’t certain as they had just switched shifts after their lunch break. They attempted to rush up to Qin Jinhuan’s office, but they were stopped by the guards as they hadn’t made an appointment beforehand. Mu Ziyao had no other choice but to give Qin Jinhuan a call.
“Are you guys at the company? What about Yu?” Qin Jinhuan asked the moment he picked up.
Mu Ziyao was shocked to hear this. “Is Yu not here yet? She left earlier than us!”
“What?” Hu Meiling was just as shocked. “Yu didn’t come over to look for Huan?!”
“Wait for me at the lobby!” Qin Jinhuan ordered before he hastily ended their call.
Hu Meiling attempted a hopeful guess. “Do you think Yu went back home? To the Prosperous Manor, I mean.”
“Let me ask.” Mu Ziyao quickly phoned Qin Xiaozhi, but he soon found out that Mu Yu hadn’t returned to their house either. In an instant, they were thrown into a panic. “Oh my God! Mu Yu couldn’t possibly have gotten into an accident, could she? The one we saw on the road earlier!” Hu Meiling cried out in fear.
Mu Ziyao’s expression faltered for a second before he shook his head. “That’s impossible! If she’s on her way to look for Huan, there’s no need for her to travel in that direction!”
“She’s in a bad mood. Could she have gone to look for a friend instead?” Hu Meiling suggested. He thought about it for a while before he shook his head again. “Yu would definitely look for Jiang Wenwen if she wanted a listening ear, but that direction doesn’t lead to Jiang Wenwen’s house either.”
Despite this, he was still rather concerned. “I don’t have Jiang Wenwen’s number. Otherwise, we could just call to ask her.”
“What should we do now? Where do you think Yu is?” Hu Meiling began to brush the tears from her eyes. “She wouldn’t do anything silly, would she?”
“Nonsense—Yu isn’t as weak as you think she is. Furthermore, Huan didn’t say that he was abandoning her; he simply missed the appointment. She wouldn’t try something silly just because of such a small matter,” Mu Ziyao said to affirm his wife.
“What if something clicked in her mind and she just decided to end her life?” she persisted.
“Who’s ending their life?!” Qin Jinhuan’s voice bellowed from the back, and both husband and wife quickly turned around. “Who are you guys talking about?” he continued worriedly.
“N-No one at all. Yu’s mother is just being worried for no reason.” Mu Ziyao brushed it off with a hand gesture as he shook his head. He quickly changed the topic and said, “Do you have Jiang Wenwen’s number, Huan? Perhaps Yu might be with her.”
“Yeah, I do!” Qin Jinhuan quickly pulled his phone out to call Jiang Wenwen, but he soon ended the call with a disappointed gaze in his eyes. “She said that Yu didn’t contact her,” he muttered.
“W-Well, do you have any special or meaningful places that you and Yu often go to? Perhaps she…”
Right then, Mu Ziyao’s words were interrupted by Qin Jinhuan’s ringing phone. As he picked it up, Qin Jinhuan said to his father-in-law, “She’s probably coming over to look for me since I ditched her; I don’t think she’d be going anywhere else.”
“But she didn’t…”
“The CCTVs aren’t fixed? F*ck! Hurry up and ask the people nearby!” Qin Jinhuan furiously ended the call as he cursed under his breath. “F*cking dumb pieces of sh*t that do nothing but laze around.”
“Hey! Where are you going, Huan?” Mu Ziyao and Hu Meiling chased after Qin Jinhuan as he strode off.
“I need to find Yu,” he answered as he speedily walked toward the exit.
“Why didn’t you come looking for Yu at 12.00PM just now, Huan? Are you angry at her?” Hu Meiling asked between sobs.
“I’m not angry at all! I just lost track of time as I was too immersed in writing,” Qin Jinhuan said exasperatedly.
“Didn’t I tell you that I’d help you with it? Look! I spent the entire night writing this!” Mu Ziyao fished a long letter out of his pocket.
Qin Jinhuan did the same gesture and pulled a stack of papers out as he sighed. “I just thought it’d be more sincere for me to write it myself. It is my fault, after all.” Qin Jinhuan had rejected his father-in-law’s kind offer mainly because he was afraid that Mu Yu would get even more furious if she recognized her father’s hand writing—he’d be in even more trouble then.
Both Hu Meiling and Mu Ziyao were relieved to see that Qin Jinhuan had no intention of abandoning their daughter. “Why didn’t you pick our calls up, then? Did you want to surprise Yu with your letter?” Mu Ziyao continued asking.
“I was simply afraid that my phone would disrupt my emotions and slow down my speed of writing the letter, so I put it on silent mode,” Qin Jinhuan explained with his head hung low. I’m never going to leave my phone on silent again in the future, he thought.
Right then, Huang Bo drove the car over and stopped right in front of the three of them. Qin Jinhuan hurriedly stepped forward to open the door, politely gesturing for Mu Ziyao and Hu Meiling to enter before him. He had already made Yu angry a few times; he couldn’t afford to insult his in-laws in any other way! After all, he needed them to throw in a few good words for him when they were with Yu.
“Please go ahead. You guys can get in first,” he said. Mu Ziyao and his wife were shocked by this flattery, and they quickly stepped back and gestured for Qin Jinhuan to enter first.
“You guys are my seniors; I have to respect you,” Qin Jinhuan explained.
“But…”
Just then, someone’s phone rang. Mu Ziyao hesitated for a second before picking it up as he saw that it was an unknown number.
“What?! Yu is in the emergency room?!”
