My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 217
Chapter 217 Ineptitude
She was extremely ecstatic with the sense of touch on her fingertips. Consciously, she clasped Qin Jinhuan’s hand and closed her eyes. Her blushing face appeared even more alluring and attractive.
Come, Jinhuan! Come to me! Suppressing her exhilaration, she screamed in silence.
Right then, a cylinder-shaped cold object was placed under her arms. Shuddering in shock, she instantly opened her eyes with surprise written all over her face.
“Jinhuan? You…”
“I’m taking your temperature. I have to send you to the hospital if you’re still feverish,” Qin Jinhuan said as he placed her hand under the blanket. Then, he tucked the blanket under her so that she was covered completely.
What?! H-He actually covered me with a blanket?!
Is the incense not strong enough? Is my outfit not seductive enough? Or was my performance unsatisfactory?
No way! There shouldn’t be anything wrong from my side! I’ve put in so much effort to prepare for this moment.
Could it be that he is sexually dysfunctional?!
Impossible! If that’s true, Mu Yu, the b*tch, won’t be pregnant!
“Still feeling cold?” Qin Jinhuan’s voice emerged again, and it was only then did she realize another thick blanket had been laid on her body.
“I-I… Jinhuan, I don’t want to go to the hospital!”
Once again, she wanted to sit up in bed but was held down by Qin Jinhuan. “Stay still! We’re still taking the temperature.”
“Jinhuan…”
Disregarding her, Qin Jinhuan made a call to Lei Zhi and explained her situation to him. Before hanging up, he remarked, “Please come over now to check her up.”
“Jinhuan, I don’t…”
Turning a deaf ear to her, Qin Jinhuan went ahead and told Lei Zhi her address.
“Jinhuan!”
He smiled and hung up the phone. “Fret not, we won’t go to the hospital. I’ve asked Lei Zhi to come and treat you.”
“But he’s a male doctor!”
“A doctor’s gender doesn’t matter. Hush, get some rest now. Lei Zhi is not far away from here, and he should be here soon. Come, give me the thermometer.” Qin Jinhuan bent over and reached out his hand.
She became anxious knowing that Lei Zhi would be coming soon. She quickly passed the thermometer to him and pointed toward the dressing room. “Jinhuan, I need to go to the washroom. Can you please bring me a thicker nightgown? I’m feeling so cold.”
He took the thermometer and said, “Go and get it yourself.” Then, he briskly walked out of her room.
As the only thing she was thinking about was putting on her clothes, Yin Anran did not notice his oddity. Agilely, she lifted up the blankets and sprinted toward the dressing room.
Qin Jinhuan went to the living room and stood by the French windows, his eyes fixed on the darkness outside.
Moments later, Yin Anran’s voice emerged from the room. “Jinhuan, I’m feeling warm now. I’m going to open the windows for fresh air.”
His facial expression turned cold upon hearing these words. Nevertheless, he did not respond to her.
He knew she indeed felt warm and needed to open the windows for some fresh air. More importantly, this would allow the scent of the incense to dissipate. Otherwise, it would become a threat to her safety when Lei Zhi was left alone with her later on. Anyway, Qin Jinhuan did not actually make a call to Lei Zhi just now—he had merely put on a show to deceive her.
Fortunately, he caught a flu last night and had a stuffy nose, but he could still detect the scent. Otherwise, he would have fallen into her trap.
All this while, he treated him as a little girl who didn’t know better and had been tolerating her willfulness and provocation toward Mu Yu, hoping that she would come to her senses. However, his patience had resulted in her being this presumptuous, and she even dared to play such tricks on him.
Seemed like the slap the other day had not taught her a lesson.
“Jinhuan, you—”
He turned around, and she was staggered upon seeing his gloomy expression. “Wh-What’s gotten into you, Jinhuan?”
“Do you think it’s fun?”
“Wh-What?” Vaguely feeling that her motive was exposed, she still played dumb.
“How old are you this year?”
“Huh? I’m twenty-one.”
“Your nominal age would be twenty-two then.” He glanced emotionlessly at her. “One is considered an adult as soon as one turns eighteen, and a guardian is no longer required.”
Shocked, she muttered, “Wh-What do you mean, Jinhuan?”
“I think you know what I mean,” he said before turning around and walking to the exit.
Immediately, she lunged forward and embraced him while wailing, “Jinhuan, are you going to ditch me? You promised Anjing that you would always look after me!”
Coldly, he shoved her away. “Indeed, I promised Anjing to look after you, but the one that I’ve promised to take care of was the pure and innocent Anran, not the scheming Anran standing right here who even plotted against me!”
“No! I didn’t plot against you! Jinhuan, please listen to me!”
“That’s enough! Yin Anran, my patience with you ends here. This shall be the last time. If you dare to offend me again, I’ll have you leave Qing Tian Group instantly!”
She was flustered and bitterly disappointed to see his furious expression, but at the same time, she was not willing to accept defeat. Sobbing, she held him back and questioned, “Jinhuan, even if I am at fault for tonight’s incident, you can’t nullify my credits in the past!”
“Your credits in the past?” He sniggered coldly at her. “Are you referring to the incident where you purposely decelerated to hit the rail and injure yourself?”
Instantly, her face turned pale. She argued haltingly, “Why would I do that on purpose? I was rushing back, so…”
Noticing his glimpse, she knew she would not be able to lie to him anymore. Dismayed, she piped down for a few seconds, thereafter she asserted in a trembling voice, “But still, I’ve helped you pull through the crisis this time round. Don’t underestimate the damages of a few hundred million; someone else could easily manipulate the incident to cause a negative impact on your annual appraisal!”
“Why do you think I even showed up at the highway last night? And why am I here right now?” He would have ignored her if it was not for what she had done for him.
“I…” She became speechless at that moment.
“I’ve had enough of these stupid tricks.”
“Jinhuan, it’s my fault! It’s all my fault!” Knowing that he was determined to leave, she grasped his hand and sobbed, “I promise I won’t ever do something like that again. Please don’t leave me. You’re my only kin in this world, and my life would be meaningless without you!”
He recklessly shoved her away and chided in a milder tone, “Behave yourself in the future if you’ve realized your mistake!”
“I swear I’ll behave myself as long as you don’t leave me!’”
His expression darkened. “Are you threatening me?”
“No, I’m not!” She shook her head with all her might. “You’re the only one I listen to ever since I was young. How would I dare to threaten you? Jinhuan, please don’t leave me! You’re my pillar of faith and the only person I can rely on in this world!”
His expression eased as his heart softened upon seeing her despairing look. “Know your mistakes and learn from them.” Once again, he turned to leave as soon as he finished speaking.
“Jinhuan.” She caught up to him and asked timidly, “You promised me before to not fire Dong Wanqing. Do your words still count? She’s my best friend and I’ve texted her about it already.”
He stopped, turned around and stared at her.
She was wearing a solemn expression and stretched out three of her fingers to vow. “Jinhuan, I swear that I’ll abide by my duty, and I’ll keep an eye on Wanqing so that she will not act recklessly.”
Putting on a long face, she added, “Both of us are already in such a state. We wouldn’t dare to act recklessly anymore.”
“I’m glad you know.” Qin Jinhuan snorted and left resolutely.
Hearing the door close with a bang, Yin Anran slumped onto the floor downheartedly, realizing that she had been too impatient and overconfident.
He had long seen through her, and she was just humiliating herself by doing all of this. It was all her wishful thinking that she could make hay while the sun shined and conquer him.
However, she could not figure out why Dong Yueyun’s incense had been ineffective.
Struggling, she walked to the mirror and stared at her face which was no different from that of her sister’s. She had gone all out for plastic surgeries during the years abroad to create this face according to her sister’s portrait.
In order for him to find traces of Anjing on her, she even imitated her sister’s speech and gestures. She also met with Anjing’s ex-classmates and friends after returning to the country, and she was certain that her efforts were not in vain seeing how stunned they were. Nevertheless, she could not figure out the reason she failed to win Qin Jinhuan’s heart. All this while, she thought it was due to her reticence, so she decided to make a bold move upon Dong Yueyun’s reminder today. Never did she expect that…
Wait a minute!
All of a sudden, she clutched her face with her hands.
No wonder he was sexually stimulated but lost his interest the next second. It must have been the detestable trace of fingerprints on her face. Oh, and the disgusting wound on her forehead too!
Sh*t! How could I not notice that?
All of my effort has gone down the drain, and I’ve wasted a golden opportunity!
She became extremely frustrated thinking of how close she had been to success.
It’s okay! You still stand a chance as long as you can find a way into his heart. Way to go! With a wicked grin on her face, she looked at herself in the mirror and posed to root for herself.
I have to think of a good way to make use of the stupid Dongs as a stepping-stone to achieve my dream. Hmm, and I need to brush up on coaxing Jinhuan.
Her head felt increasingly heavy as these thoughts lingered in her mind. She hit herself on the forehead, went to get a cup of water and walked back into the room. Following that, she took a pill from the cupboard and swallowed it with some water.
It sucks to take pills to make myself ill, and it feels even worse to deliberately hurt myself through a car accident. Sigh, it is not effective at all even after all these self-torture. What a lame idea it was! Yin Anran moaned to herself.
Meanwhile, Qin Jinhuan was queueing at Supper Street to buy supper for Mu Yu.
Bian Zijun and Huang Bo had offered to help him buy supper, but he had rejected them because he wanted to show his sincerity. After all, Mu Yu was really angry this time round, and he had to put in effort to coax her.
Regardless of the fact that Mu Yu might not be able to finish the food, he bought all of her favorite supper and went home happily with a handful of takeaway bags.
It was already half past eleven when he reached home, and everyone was asleep.
Softly, he went upstairs and opened the door of his room. To his surprise, the room was completely dark, but he immediately smiled again.
What a prideful girl. She is acting as if she’s not waiting for supper even though she hasn’t eaten much for dinner. Let’s see if she can resist the temptation of these delicacies. Anyway, no hurry, he silently chuckled.
He switched on the light and left the bags on the coffee table. Then, he plated the food and waited for the smell to fill the room before he called for Mu Yu in the inner room.
However, there was no response after a few calls. Thinking that she had fallen asleep, he shook his head while smiling gently, stood up and walked to the bed. Then, he pounced cheekily on the bulging part in the middle of the bed.
Huh?! Noticing that something was wrong, he quickly lifted the blanket.
There was no one but a bolster under the blanket, and on the bolster was a note. Upon reading the note, his expression changed instantly.
