My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 204
Chapter 204 You’re So Stubborn
Qin Jinhuan calmly shifted his gaze over to Bian Zijun, while Mu Yu seemed a lot more anxious as she was the first to ask, “What is it?”
“There’s been an issue with the factory at South City too!”
“What?!” Mu Yu felt like her heart was about to leap out of her throat. “What issue is it this time?” It can’t be someone else dying again! God, please bless us! Don’t let it be another dead body!
“The factory workers from the first department are going on a strike! Those in the second and third departments seem to be intrigued by this idea as well!”
Phew, it’s just a couple of workers going on strike! As long as no one is dead. Mu Yu let out a sigh under her breath. To her, human lives mattered the most. However, she soon realized the impact of the staff’s strike on Qing Tian Group’s profit, and her relief turned into worry yet again. She was about to ask what was the reason behind the strike when Rong Jian beat her to it. “Why are they going on strike all of a sudden?”
Bian Zijun replied to Rong Jian’s question while looking at Qin Jinhuan. “They’re requesting to triple their daily salary—just like the workers at the Chengbei Factory! They said that they would go on strike if we don’t agree to their terms!”
“Who told you about this?” Qin Jinhuan wasn’t surprised by this as he spoke in a monotonous, flat voice.
“President Wen told me about it! By the way, he mentioned that he’s been unable to contact you through your phone! He’s waiting for you to make a decision!” Qin Jinhuan pulled his phone out to see two missed calls from Wen Zeyu. It seemed like he had accidentally switched his phone to silent mode earlier.
“What should we do now, Huan?” Rong Jian had a concerned look on his face. “If we agree to raise the salary for workers in this factory, factory workers from the other sites would most certainly follow suit!”
Bian Zijun was just as worried as he said, “That’s right. We have so many factories under our company; if every factory’s workers try to do the same thing, it’s going to cost us a lot of money!”
As he placed his phone back into his pocket, Qin Jinhuan simply muttered, “Money is no big deal.”
“Are you saying that President Wen should agree to their requests?” Bian Zijun was already prepared to phone Wen Zeyu.
“Money’s a small matter, but spoilt workers are a big issue.” With a stern, dark expression on his face, Qin Jinhuan gave Wen Zeyu a call and immediately ordered, “Settle the payments for the workers on strike right now and get them to leave at once. We’ll never hire them again.”
“Calm down, Huan. I’m still in the midst of discussing with them. I’ll try to lower their expectations, so…”
“Fire all of them.”
“We can’t rush into conclusions at a time like this! If all the workers leave, we wouldn’t be able to meet the deadlines for our orders in time, and we’d have to pay a lot of penalties for breaking those contracts!” Wen Zeyu said anxiously. “It’s alright, you don’t have to worry about this. I’ll handle it!” he added.
“Do as I say!” Qin Jinhuan spoke in a louder tone this time, his words leaving no space for argument. “Tell them that those who wish to leave now can collect their final salary and get out. Make sure that we pay them everything we owe them. However, let them know that the company’s system, who has a record of their personal details, will be altered so that the company will know to never hire them or their direct family members ever again in the future.”
“I-Isn’t this a little too…”
“Do as I say.” Qin Jinhuan ended the call before Wen Zeyu could respond.
With his thumb sticking upward, Rong Jian grinned and said, “That’s smart, Huan. I can’t believe you thought of this method to scare the workers.”
“I’m not scaring anyone.” He replied while stoically placing his phone back into his pocket. Be it their factory or office workers, Qing Tian Group offered the best treatment and benefits for all of them. The company’s management was empathetic to the workers’ situations and they provided personality development; anyone who had the skills could definitely flourish in a company like that, and everyone in town was well aware of this. This was precisely why people were always flocking over to their company. Furthermore, with Qing Tian Group’s international fame, many families in An City hoped that their children would be able to get into Qing Tian Group. It’d be a proud moment for these families if their children managed to enter the Qing Tian headquarters upon graduation. Therefore, Qing Jinhuan was very aware of the impact and harm brought upon the workers when he said, “I’ll never hire them or their direct family members”.
“You’re not actually planning to do that, are you? Isn’t that being a little too stubborn?” Mu Yu didn’t understand the details of the situation, and her eyes only widened as she heard him speak.
“What’s wrong with being a little stubborn every now and then?” A smile crept onto Qin Jinhuan’s face the minute he looked at her. His voice also turned a lot gentler as he said, “You must be hungry, right? Let’s go get some food.”
“What you are doing is detrimental to the company’s progress! The company will lose out on hiring talented and outstanding individuals with a lot of potential! Although the company’s recent development has been good…”
“You’re thinking too far ahead.”
“You’re supposed to plan ahead when you’re handling an entire company; how could you not have a long-term plan?” Mu Yu got more and more anxious as she continued, “Fine—we can look at the present moment if you don’t want to talk about long-term plans. Right now, you’re throwing a tantrum and firing all these men, but how are you going to pay all the penalties for breaching those contracts once all your workers are gone?” Qing Tian Group had contracts with late penalty fees that were higher than regular companies to emphasize their ‘quick and quality’ services. No matter what their excuse was for late deliveries, the company would always pay their penalty fees without shoving the responsibility to others—this was the main reason why a lot of companies were willing to work with them.
Mu Yu had specifically spoken to Zhi Xiaoyin to further understand these details after the Chengbei Factory’s workers went on strike, so she was especially concerned when she saw how stubborn Qin Jinhuan was earlier.
“Don’t worry. They’re not going to leave,” Qin Jinhuan said confidently as he slipped his hand into hers. “Come on—let’s go eat.”
“But…”
“No more ‘buts’. Let’s go.”
“Hey! Ugh!”
Rong Jian chuckled at the sight of how anxious and impatient Mu Yu seemed. “Yu, Huan might not be as good as we are in handling autopsies and case investigations, but he’s definitely better than us when it comes to running a company. We don’t have to worry about him; we should just let him do it his way instead.”
“But…” Mu Yu thought that what Rong Jian said made sense, so she fell silent although she didn’t feel entirely at ease with the situation. She simply continued to stare at Qin Jinhuan with her brows pressed together.
“I’ll bring Yu for some food. You can go ahead and finish your work.” Qin Jinhuan gave Rong Jian a careless wave before leading Mu Yu out of the room.
“Wait!” Rong Jian tagged along behind them. “I sent my car to the automobile service shop. I’ll need Weng Yun to send me back to the station.”
“Get your own cab.”
“I don’t have any cash with me.”
“Zijun, give him 20 bucks.”
Rong Jian glared at him. “Why do you sound like you’re trying to get rid of a beggar here?”
“Don’t worry, 15 bucks is good enough. You can even buy a drink with the remaining 5.” Qin Jinhuan didn’t even turn around to look at the other man.
“It’s too troublesome to hail a cab back.” Of course, Qin Jinhuan knew from the start that Rong Jian’s lack of cash was simply an excuse. “In that case, you can just walk back; treat it as a workout or some form of body conditioning.”
Mu Yu couldn’t stand it any longer. With a tug, she ordered, “Get Weng Yun to send Chief Rong back!”
“Weng Yun’s not here.”
“Get Zijun to do it, then.”
“Zijun’s sending us back.”
“Aren’t we going for a meal? We can eat somewhere nearby; Zijun can send Chief Rong back while we eat, and he can come back and pick us up once we’re done.” Seeing that Qin Jinhuan didn’t respond to this, she immediately altered her tone of voice as she continued, “I’ll walk back with Chief Rong then. It’s still office hours and I’m supposed to be at work now, anyway.”
Eventually, Qin Jinhuan succumbed to their requests and said, “Get Cheng Xiang to send him back.”
“Alright, boss.” Bian Zijun speedily walked out and threw the car keys over to Cheng Xiang, who was standing outside. He indicated for the man to send Rong Jian back to the station.
Once Rong Jian and Cheng Xiang left, Qin Jinhuan was about to order Bian Zijun to look for good food near them when Mu Yu stopped him with a giggle. “I know a good place around here. Let me bring you there.”
“Where is this place?”
With a sly wink, Mu Yu tried to leave him in suspense by saying, “You’ll know when we get there.” Qin Jinhuan glared at her for a few seconds before he burst out in laughter as he said, “I think I know where it is.”
“Let’s go, then.” With both their arms intertwined, Mu Yu chuckled as the two of them walked out together. The warm sunshine greeted them as they stepped out of the hospital, and Mu Yu let out a soft sigh as she admired the sight of melting snow while they walked on the rather damp grounds of the boulevard. “It’s so rare for us to have great amounts of snowfall. It’s a shame that everything has melted before I even got a proper look at it.”
An City was located toward the south; snowfall was considered rare during the winter. Even if there was a snowstorm, the remaining snow would only last for a few days before it melted. “We can easily find someplace else with snow.” Qin Jinhuan clearly didn’t have the slightest interest in the snow; if anything, it even annoyed him when bits of snow landed on him. His footsteps came to a halt as he said, “It’s still quite a distance and the weather’s really cold. Let’s call a cab.”
“Walk with me,” Mu Yu whined. “I like looking at the snow.”
“Once I have a little more time, I can bring you…”
“I like looking at the snow in An City. I like to see a city that I’m familiar with being covered in snow. Ah, it’s a shame that we didn’t get to build a snowman. In the past winters, Yihan would always help me…” Mu Yu’s voice faded off as she realized how this didn’t seem to be an appropriate topic to be discussing with him.
“He’d help you build snowmen?” Qin Jinhuan finished her question to show her that he didn’t mind for her to say such things.
“Yeah.” Reluctant to start any pointless misunderstandings, Mu Yu quickly switched the topic. “Why were you being so petty earlier? You didn’t even want to send Chief Rong back.”
Out of nowhere, Qin Jinhuan’s voice fell into a low, serious tone. “Yu, you can’t be so nice to everyone in the future, alright?”
“What? Isn’t Chief Rong your closest buddy?”
“I only brought Zijun and Cheng Xiang along with me today. Now that Cheng Xiang’s gone, it’d be a little more troublesome if we were to bump into bad guys.”
“Bad guys?!” Mu Yu gazed around her surroundings frantically. She then came to a thankful realization as she said, “I don’t think public security is that bad in An City, is it? I’m sure no one would dare to kidnap us in broad daylight.”
“We should never underestimate the courage of desperados; better safe than sorry.”
“It should be fine. I even go to work by myself sometimes.”
“By yourself?” Qin Jinhuan chuckled. “Do you think you’ve ever gone to work on your own?”
Stunned, she asked, “You didn’t send someone to stalk me on the way to work, did you?”
“Stalk?” He gently smacked her on her head with a look of dissatisfaction as he said, “It’s called covert protection.”
“Since there has been someone covertly protecting me all along, that person should be close to us right now. Why are you still worried?”
“Um…”
Mu Yu seized the opportunity to tease him as she saw how tongue-tied he was. “I never expected you to make the mistake of engaging in habitual thinking.”
“Your husband’s just a regular human, you know.”
Mu Yu chuckled and replied, “You have to be human. What would become of me if you were to turn into some divine entity? Divine entities aren’t allowed to have any emotions.”
“I’d be fine if I don’t get to feel much, but I need the attraction and sensory pleasures I have with you.” Qin Jinhuan gave a gentle laugh as his lips grazed the side of her ear while he said, “We haven’t been making progress with our project to create a new living being. We’ll have to work overtime tonight to compensate for the work we missed out yesterday.”
“You’re always so optimistic; you can still make jokes even during the direst situations.” Mu Yu was comforted by this, but she also couldn’t help it as she let out a long sigh.
“It isn’t a dire situation to me as long as you’re still by my side, laughing and all.”
“My laugh isn’t going to help you get rid of your problems.”
“However, it gives me the presence of mind to deal with all my problems.”
On the topic of problems, Mu Yu then recalled a question she had wanted to ask earlier. “Why did you only approve the Chengbei Factory’s workers’ request to triple their salary while rejecting workers at South City?”
“That’s because…”
Mu Yu’s phone rang right then. She felt a sudden surge of anxiousness when she saw that Rong Jian was the one calling her.
