My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 179
Chapter 179 A False Alarm
“What?!” Mu Yu sprang up from the sofa in great shock. “A-Are they safe?”
“The flight lost touch with the control tower and we have no news on the situation now.” Qin Jinhuan sounded very nervous and his tone was off.
“What do we do?”
“What could we do? We can only wait for updates.”
Mu Yu almost cried when she heard Qin Jinhuan letting out a long sigh. She asked him, “Where are you now?”
“I’m on my way to the airport.”
“I’ll go with you too!” She immediately clutched her satchel when she commented.
“Okay. I will pick you up.”
“Do Chief Rong and Zeyu know about it?”
“Yes, I have informed them. Zeyu has headed to the airport before us.”
“Aright. I will wait for you at the main entrance.” Mu Yu ended the call and turned to Jiang Wenwen. “I have to rush to the airport. Why don’t you go home now?” Then, she dashed out of the office.
“What happened?” Jiang Wenwen was confused but she followed behind Mu Yu.
“Xi’s flight has lost contact with the ground.”
“Huh? Oh my god, could it be…”
“No! No! That wouldn’t happen!” Mu Yu could not imagine the worst outcome.
“Yes, you’re right. They will be fine. The flight must have lost contact due to the poor signal in the weather. It will be alright soon,” Jiang Wenwen realized that she almost let slip and hurriedly comforted Mu Yu.
“Wenwen, tonight’s party must have been cancelled. You head home now because I need to be at the airport.”
“Don’t worry. According to my sixth sense, the party will go on. Xi and Ying will land safely. Don’t think too much about it. My sixth sense is always accurate!” Jiang Wenwen took Mu Yu’s hand. “I will accompany you to the airport.”
“Will they really be safe?” Tears welled up in Mu Yu’s eyes.
“Yes! Hey, isn’t that Young Master Qin’s car?”
Mu Yu stared at it and immediately nodded. “Yes, it’s his car. Let’s go.”
The two of them held hands and rushed out from the lobby and ran toward the main entrance. Despite the chilly wind, the two of them did not feel cold at all. When they reached the car, Qin Jinhuan came out to open the door for them.
To avoid any awkwardness, Mu Yu let Jiang Wenwen enter the car and followed after her while stealing a glance at Qin Jinhuan. His worried face and knitted brows made her heart sink.
In the car, they waited but did not get any updates from the airport, which made everyone even more worried. They sat in silence and Mu Yu cast a few teary glances at Qin Jinhuan, who quietly tightened his grip on her hand.
It was close to noon. The roads were de-iced and safe for travel. Huang Bo drove fast to the airport as if an early arrival would guarantee the safety of Qin Chengxi and Rong Ying.
Half an hour later, they finally arrived at the airport. When the car stopped, Qin Jinhuan held Mu Yu’s hand and left the car for the arrival hall while calling Wen Zeyu to ask for directions.
Soon, they followed the instructions and found Wen Zeyu. He was clutching the phone tightly and standing in front of the glass windows with a pale face, staring straight at the airport ramp area.
“Are they still lost from contact?” Mu Yu hurriedly asked Rong Jian who was now standing beside Wen Zeyu. Rong Jian’s expression was the same as Wen Zeyu. He pursed his lips tightly and shook his head.
Mu Yu’s heavy chest became even more suffocated and her throat went dry. She sniffled lightly but soon stopped herself so that she would not trigger the tense atmosphere.
Qin Jinhuan had no intention to comfort her with words anymore and only gave her a gentle hug.
Mu Yu knew very well that he must have felt as horrible as Wen Zeyu and Rong Jian. She wanted to comfort him like how Jiang Wenwen had consoled her but she could not force a smile on her face. In the end, she gave up and stood in silence with him.
Right then, Shang Huining and his wife arrived at the hall and they rushed to the front of Qin Jinhuan. He gave them a shake of head and Shang Huining’s wife immediately broke down in tears. Her husband hurriedly took her aside to comfort her but a while later, he cried out loud as well too.
At the sight of the couple crying, Mu Yu who was on the verge of tears felt a lump in her throat and cried out too.
Qin Jinhuan pulled her into a hug to comfort her but it was also to comfort himself. He mumbled in her ear, “Don’t worry, they’ll be fine.” Mu Yu nodded furiously in his embrace but could not stop herself from crying.
Jiang Wenwen could not speak. Seeing that Wen Zeyu’s eyes were glistening in tears, she approached him while looking outside and comforting him, “Don’t worry. They’ll be fine.”
Sadly, Wen Zeyu did not look at her once and acted like he had not heard her, which was awkward for her. She embarrassedly looked to the side and realized that Rong Jian and the rest were worriedly staring at the airport ramp and no one saw what had happened, much to her relief. She soon felt bad for her distracted thoughts and quickly put her palms together, silently praying that the crew and the passengers were all safe.
Time passed slowly, and it was an excruciating wait especially for Qin Jinhuan and those few others who had been notified about the incident at the earliest. They felt more painful than being boiled alive.
Right when everyone was at a heightened state of nervousness, Qin Jinhuan’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the number and immediately released Mu Yu to take the call. After that, he exclaimed joyfully, “I’ve gotten in touch with them! They’re safe!”
“Really?” Mu Yu and Wen Zeyu responded at the same time. Shang Huining and his wife ran over to stare at Qin Jinhuan nervously.
“It’s true!” Qin Jinhuan’s eyes sparkled and he nodded at them.
“That’s great news!” Mu Yu and Jiang Wenwen rejoiced as Wen Zeyu agitatedly asked Qin Jinhuan about the estimated arrival time of the flight.
“There’s a sudden change in weather, which was why their flight could not land in An City. They were scheduled to land in Ning City an hour later.”
“I’ll go pick them up at Ning City.” Wen Zeyu immediately turned around and ran out.
“I’ll follow you!” Not losing a beat, Rong Jian ran after him.
“Hey, I want to go as well.” Jiang Wenwen ran up to the guys.
“Hey, wait for us. Huan and I…”
“Yu, you and Huan should stay in An City to prepare for the party and wait for us to be back,” Wen Zeyu suggested right as he vanished from the arrival hall.
“Huan, we should…”
“Let’s listen to Zeyu. We will wait for them in An City.” Qin Jinhuan held her hand and turned over to apologize to Shang Huining and his wife, whose eyes were swollen and red from crying, “President Shang, Madam Shang, I’m truly sorry. I shouldn’t have let slip the news and made you worry.”
Shang Huining was wiping his tears while waving at Qin Jinhuan. “Young Master Qin, there is no need to apologize. I know you’re concerned about our son Shang Qi. Sigh.we are fine with anything as long as they are safe.”
“Huining, why don’t we pick up Qi at Ning City?” Shang Huining’s wife, Ling Ling asked him between sobs.
“President Wen and Chief Rong are rushing there. We should stay here. Your health is not good. We will calmly wait for Shang Qi at home.”
“I’m fine with that too.” Ling Ling wiped away her tears and rubbed her chest again. “That was quite a scare! I’ll have to get myself some ginseng tea later at home to calm down.”
“Okay. Let’s go home.” Shang Huining put his arm around her shoulder and bid farewell to Qin Jinhuan.
“We should go home too.” Qin Jinhuan had completely relaxed and he took Mu Yu’s hand to lead her out.
“Thank goodness it was a false alarm.” Even though the crisis was resolved, Mu Yu’s heart still thudded non-stop. She happened to hear someone on the side making a call and talking about the same flight that Qin Chengxi was on, which was now rerouted to Ning City. She immediately looked at Qin Jinhuan and chided him, “There’s a downside to having connections and getting news way too early. See, some families of the passengers did not even know that the flight temporarily lost contact with the ground. They did not have to go through the fear and shock.”
“Are you blaming me then?” Qin Jinhuan smiled and replied.
“Yes, I’m blaming you for not having the ability to fly. If not, you could have flown up there and brought them down to safety.”
“That’s the talent of the Monkey King. I’m not Monkey King.”
“You’re not Monkey King but you’re still a beast.”
“It’s not night time yet. I cannot turn into a beast.”
“What are you talking about?” Qin Jinhuan’s suggestive comment prompted Mu Yu to reply shyly.
In a good mood, Qin Jinhuan was not ready to let her off. He continued joking at her, “You know what I’m talking about.”
“You’re annoying. Oh, by the way, did you and Zeyu talk to grandpa about Xi’s surgery?”
“Not yet. We stepped out of Qing Tian building and were about to go home. Then, I received a call from the airport and rushed over,” Qin Jinhuan replied and checked his wrist watch only to find that it was 2 p.m. He immediately suggested, “Let’s have something to eat. When we get home, grandpa should be up from his nap.”
Upon hearing that, Mu Yu laughed. “You do care about grandpa a lot. Why do you always pretend like you don’t?”
Qin Jinhuan rolled his eyes at her but remained silent.
“What’s so embarrassing about showing your care? He’s your grandpa after all.”
Qin Jinhuan ignored her chatter and brought her to eat at the airport restaurant. Then, they headed home to meet grandpa.
When they arrived at home, Qin Xiaozhi was seated in the living room downstairs, surrounded by Lei Zhi, Yu Zhongguang and Li Xianglan as if they were in the middle of a discussion. When the three saw the couple entering, their eyes flickered and they greeted the couple before scurrying out of the living room.
Mu Yu immediately noticed that something was off but she dared not press on. Seeing that Qin Jinhuan had taken a seat to the left of grandpa, she immediately went up to pour them tea before sitting down on the right.
“Are you off work this early?” Qin Xiaozhi was obviously in a great mood and his eyes turned into two lines from smiling. Mu Yu mistook that as a good start and she happily hinted at Qin Jinhuan across Qin Xiaozhi. Qin Jinhuan nodded lightly and informed grandpa with seriousness, “Xi is back.”
“Oh? Is he? That’s good. Tell him to see me. I haven’t met him in a long time,” Qin Xiaozhi commented joyfully as he took a sip of tea.
“To be honest with you, Xi did not go abroad to study during this period.” Qin Jinhuan observed grandpa’s face keenly as he slowly revealed, “He went for a gender reassignment surgery.”
“What surgery again?” Qin Xiaozhi abruptly turned around.
“A gender reassignment surgery. Xi is a girl.”
A loud slam was heard when Qin Xiaozhi flung the teacup in rage. “What nonsense was that? How could Xi be a girl?”
“Grandpa, it’s true. Xi is really a girl!” Mu Yu anxiously backed up Qin Jinhuan. “She was born with the genitals of both genders but her chromosomes proved that she is a girl. Plus, her female reproductive system is healthier than the male system.”
“No! That’s impossible! Xi is my grandson!” Although Mu Yu had vaguely brought up the topic with Qin Xiaozhi, the old man seemed to reject the idea. He trembled in fury and tightly held to his chest.
His reaction astonished Mu Yu, and she dared not continue her explanation. Instead, she hurriedly called for Lei Zhi while rubbing grandpa’s back. Lei Zhi immediately came over and handed some calming pills to Qin Xiaozhi.
After taking the pills, it took some time for Qin Xiaozhi to compose himself. Then, he asked Qin Jinhuan in disbelief, “Is Yu telling me the truth? What’s going on?”
Seeing that grandpa had regained some calmness, Qin Jinhuan and Mu Yu finally gave him a brief update on what had happened to Qin Chengxi over these days.
“How could that happen? How could they harm their child!” Qin Xiaozhi immediately flared up after hearing about Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun’s coercion. If it had been in the past, Qin Jinhuan would have retorted by telling him, “It’s all your fault because of your bias toward males.” However, thanks to Mu Yu, his relationship with grandpa became better. At that moment, he did not comment more and coolly remarked, “Even if Xi is a girl, she is part of our family. We should not deprive her of her inheritance.”
Qin Xiaozhi was pleased to hear Qin Jinhuan’s remark and immediately agreed, “You’re the head of the Qin Family. We’ll listen to you.”
“However, my stance remains the same. Your will cannot be publicized,” Qin Jinhuan insisted because he did not want to see the gleeful faces of Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun when they realized that Qin Chengxi was included as well.
“I’ll listen to you on everything.”
Grandpa’s cool acceptance of Xi’s new gender came as a surprise to Qin Jinhuan and Mu Yu. Of course, it was a pleasant surprise for them.
Then, they told Qin Xiaozhi about the party at night and invited him over, to which he declined. Qin Xiaozhi thought that he was old and did not want to be out and about at night. He hoped that the young people had fun at the party.
After sending away Qin Jinhuan and Mu Yu, Qin Xiaozhi immediately called in Lei Zhi who had been waiting outside the living room. Upon seeing Lei Zhi, he fired his first question, “How long before I can get the results?”
