My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 180
Chapter 180 She Was Pregnant!
“Usually around seven weeks,” Lei Zhi replied respectfully.
“Seven weeks? You mean forty nine days? I’ll have to wait for a little over a month to get the results?” Qin Xiaozhi was obviously in a rush. “Can it be done earlier?”
Lei Zhi was put in a difficult position. “Well, that would affect the accuracy of the data” He did not want to shoulder the responsibility of making an error regarding the information of the fetus and disappointing his boss.
“When can we determine if she is having twins?”
“The earliest would be around forty to fifty days. I can deliver accurate results then.” Lei Zhi sweated in secret once again. He was aware that his boss wanted a great-grandchild very badly, but he underestimated Qin Xiaozhi’s impatience.
Qin Xiaozhi was indeed irritated. “Why is everything taking a long time? Can’t I get the results within ten days just like that pregnancy test?”
“No,” Lei Zhi replied meekly.
According to the scientific rule, it would only take eight days after conception to receive a positive pregnancy test result. However, to be safe, Lei Zhi told Qin Xiaozhi that the test result would only be available ten to thirty days after the safe period.
Qin Xiaozhi could not stand to wait until the fifteenth day and had Lei Zhi arrange for Li Xianglan to stealthily collect Mu Yu’s morning urine sample for the test on the thirteenth day after Mu Yu’s safe period. In the end, everything went according to Qin Xiaozhi’s wish and the pregnancy test displayed two bars—Mu Yu was pregnant.
Lei Zhi thought that his boss would be happy enough to learn of the pregnancy but he did not expect Qin Xiaozhi to be impatient about the gender reveal.
“Boss, don’t get too impatient. The pregnancy cannot be rushed. Why don’t we calm down and wait for the results? The fact that the young mistress is pregnant is great news in itself,” While handing a cup of tea to Qin Xiaozhi, Yu Zhongguang comforted him softly. Qin Xiaozhi took the cup of tea and his expression was soothed after hearing Yu Zhongguang’s last sentence.
At that moment, Lei Zhi suddenly thought of something and instantly became nervous. “Boss, at the early stage of pregnancy, if the couple continues to have intimacy, there will be a higher risk of miscarriage! The young master and young mistress are still in the dark about the pregnancy. I worry that they’d unintentionally harm the baby.”
“Ah!” Yu Zhongguang slapped his thigh and exclaimed, “That’s a huge problem! Young master loves to do it at night. He is always using a condom and he’ll not anticipate the pregnancy! Then, he will not be careful when he’s intimate with the young mistress. It’ll be a disaster!”
Qin Xiaozhi’s expression changed and he sprang up from his seat. “I have to inform them about this immediately!”
“No, Boss.” Yu Zhongguang stopped him. “If you let out the fact that you sabotaged the young master’s condom, he might get into another fight with you. Take a seat. We’ll figure out another way to inform him of the young mistress’s pregnancy.”
“What else can we do?” Qin Xiaozhi was very anxious.
“How about this?” Lei Zhi had secretly come up with an idea. “Isn’t Chief Rong returning today? We’ll have her make up an excuse to bring the young mistress in for a body checkup, during which they’d reveal her pregnancy. Everything will flow smoothly then.”
“Boss, I think that might work!” Yu Zhongguang looked at Qin Xiaozhi happily. The latter gave it some thought and nodded as he picked up the phone to call Rong Ying. When she replied that she was free to talk, he briefly explained the situation to her.
“Is Yu pregnant?” On the other side of the line, Rong Ying sounded extremely shocked. However, Qin Xiaozhi was happy. “Yes. The result came out early this morning. I’ll have to trouble you on this matter.”
“Oh, I’ll get it done. Grandpa, don’t worry about it.”
“Yes, I’m not worried at all. I have full confidence in your capability.” Now that Rong Ying had agreed to perform the checkup, Qin Xiaozhi finally ended the call and sighed gladly.
Due to the character of Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun, he had never taken a liking to Qin Chengxi. Now that he was informed about the gender change, he felt that it was hard to swallow but Mu Yu’s pregnancy helped to soothe his anger.
Xi… His granddaughter… Qin Xiaozhi noticed that he now had a full collection of a grandson, a granddaughter. If he had grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law in the future, that would perhaps be called a full house. He sank into deep thoughts.
On the other hand, after receiving the news of Mu Yu’s pregnancy, Rong Ying stood in front of the airport washroom mirror and stared at her reflection blankly.
“Ying, are you okay?“ Qin Chengxi had waited quite some time for Rong Ying outside the washroom and was concerned about the delay. When she rushed in and saw Rong Ying staring blankly at the mirror, she thought that Rong Ying had not yet recovered from the fear of a potential flight incident. She immediately went up to support Ying and inquired about her condition.
“I’m fine.” Rong Ying forced a smile.
“That’s good to hear.” Qin Chengxi sighed in relief but soon gritted her teeth. “To be honest with you, I was horribly scared before this. If not for Shang Qi’s comforting words, I could have cried out loud. Well, I was thinking that if something bad happened to all of us, I would feel sorry for you.”
Rong Ying gently caressed Qin Chengxi’s hair. “Foolish girl. What are you talking about?”
“I’m telling you the truth. If you did not accompany me to the surgery, you would not have been on the flight and encountered danger.”
“Be it luck or misfortune, we could never escape from our fates. If one is unlucky, he or she would even get into an accident even when staying in bed. Our luck and happiness are predestined.” When Rong Ying made the last remark, she couldn’t help but think of her regrets and unknowingly let out a sigh.
“Predestiny?” Qin Chengxi was slightly stunned by the word and she shook her head as she fell into a reverie. Her parents had always been very aggressive and maintained their authority over her. The moment she began to understand things around her, she knew that she could not utter an objection in front of her parents even when she was unwilling to do something. If not, she would be greeted with a storm of anger.
Without knowing it, she chose to bow to fate and thought that it was useless to fight against decisions in her life. Gradually, she lost her personality and turned into a mild and meek child who always deferred to her parents without any objection.
When she had entered puberty, she realized that her body was slightly different than others and it was a shock to her. Helpless and weak, she turned to her parents for help. They were equally shocked and brought her to a body checkup, after which they immediately decided on a surgery to turn her into a male. She vividly remembered the scene where her parents were discussing her surgery with the doctor; not once had they asked for her opinion. Right before they dragged her into the operating room, she mustered all her courage for the first time in her life and grabbed her mom’s hand, confessing meekly that she wanted to be a female, not a man.
Her confession got her a slap from her mom who completely ignored all her bitter pleas and told her that it was impossible for her to become a female in this life unless she chose death. After the slap from her mom, Qin Chengxi lay on the floor with blood oozing from the edge of her lips. However, putting her dignity aside, she crawled over and got down on her knees to beg her mom.
Since young, she had loved princess dresses and barbie dolls, basically everything that a girl would love. In the past, she suspected that she was mentally insane for loving activities of the opposite gender and was afraid to be laughed at, which was why she kept her girly hobbies a secret, suppressing the true side of herself.
It wasn’t until now that she finally understood herself; she was not mentally insane but only living her true self as a girl. That was why she desired this opportunity for her to decide on her gender and to alter the course of her life.
She seemed to gain courage and fought against her fate. For the first time, she listened to her heart and stood up fearfully to her mom whom she was scared of. But the protest that the timid Qin Chengxi referred to was nothing more than kneeling, crying and kowtowing.
Her parents were not swayed by any of her desperate attempts. They even ordered the hospital staff to bring her into the operating room mercilessly. Perhaps out of pity at her heart-wrenching wails, the hospital staff stood frozen on the ground and none came forward to force her against her will. Their inaction caused them to be scolded by her parents who took it to themselves to drag their child into the operating room.
Perhaps out of her fear of turning into a man or out of her utter disappointment at her parents, she suddenly vomited a few mouthfuls of blood when she was about to be dragged into the operating room. After that, she closed her eyes and fainted.
When she regained consciousness, she was lying on the patient bed. The nurse informed her that due to the blood loss, she was in a weak condition that stalled the surgery. The moment she heard about it, she felt as if she had survived a disaster.
From then on, Qin Chengxi was aware of the fact that the surgery would be postponed if her body was too weak to undergo any operation. She started using the excuse of appetite loss to starve herself. Whenever she felt the unbearable pangs of hunger, she comforted herself with the thought that hunger was better than turning into a man. Not only that, she comforted herself that one day her parents would come around and allow her to be a female.
Day after day, her body lost weight and her face turned pale. Since health was the precondition to the gender reassignment surgery, her parents diligently brought her to medical consultations and got her medicines. The doctors could not get to the root of her issue and finally forced themselves to arrive at the conclusion that she was anorexic.
“It is not ideal for her to undergo surgery based on her poor health. We shall decide on that after she has recovered.” Qin Chengxi could still recall her parents’ extreme disappointment when Jia Pengyi advised them against their wishes. However, she was secretly rejoicing over it.
It was horrible to starve herself every day. Miraculously, her body slowly adjusted after some time of hunger and pain—or at least she mistakenly thought so because it was numbness that she experienced.
Shang Qi was the only ray of sunshine in her gloomy life. Due to health reasons, he had deferred his studies for a few years, which explained his status as her classmate despite being older. As she was afraid to reveal her condition to others, she refrained from communicating with her classmates and chose to sit alone in a corner. As for Shang Qi, he was older than the others and did not bother to merge into the social circle. As a result, he chose to sit beside her. It was perhaps out of his pity for the weak that he took very good care of her and even helped her to take revenge on the school bullies.
From junior high to college, he had somehow managed to be her deskmate. She could not trace back to the day she had fallen for him but when she realized her feelings for him, she was in fear. Because she was an intersex person, she felt that she was undeserving for his love; he could have made a better pick as he was a popular guy among the girls.
When Qin Chengxi found out that his care for her was beyond friendship, she felt helpless and decided to avoid him by taking time off school. She had always chosen to ignore him but she did not expect him to lure her out that day for a love confession. Although she felt sorry for Shang Qi, who was always haughty in front of the others but humble in front of her, she had no choice but to heartlessly reject him.
That day at home, her parents, who had been forcing her to rest and rehabilitate, finally snapped and impatiently dragged her in for a surgery. When she failed to ask for help from Qin Jinhuan, she lost her will to live and chose to take her own life by overdosing on pills.
The moment she was about to lose consciousness, she received a call from Shang Qi. Thinking that she would definitely die from her attempt, she let down her defense for the very first time and cried her heart out to him over the phone. Thankfully, Shang Qi rushed over in time and sent her to the hospital for medical attention.
On their way to the hospital, he muttered a lot of words in her ear. She could not recall most of it but one particular remark was forever etched in her mind. “If you die, I’ll die with you. If you live, I will live with you as well.”
She could not bear to see him die. Therefore, she had to fight to stay alive. It was from then on that she decided not to bow to her parents anymore. She left an SOS message in the washroom. When she saw her brother and sister-in-law barging into the operating room to save her, she bravely said no to her parents’ decision for the very first time.
“Xi, are you cold?” Someone suddenly took her hand and she heard Shang Qi’s gentle and caring voice. It was then that she realized she had wandered to the main hall in the airport with Rong Ying. She looked to her side and met with Shang Qi’s loving gaze. She reflexively smiled at the sight of him.
Even though the road ahead of them would be full of challenges, Qin Chengxi vowed not to bow down to anyone. She wanted to write her destiny and courageously reject anything that would go against her wishes.
Thank god that she came to the realization on time and hopped on the train to a brighter future where she gifted herself a chance at love.
“It’s not cold at all.” She smiled at him like a spring bloom.
“Let’s go home then. President Wen and Chief Rong are on their way here by car.”
“Sure.” The two locked their fingers and walked out of the airport looking sweet and happy.
Not long after, Qin Chengxi’s phone rang. “It must be Huan.” She took out her phone in joy. She assumed that it was Qin Jinhuan’s call because no one aside from him knew her new number. Therefore, she was shocked to see an unknown number on her screen.
With some suspicion, she warily picked up the call. “Hello?”
“Xi?” The familiar voice caused her expression to change.
