My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 159
Chapter 159 I Forbid You to Take the Risk
“W-Wang Linhua?” Mu Yu was extremely shocked to learn that Wang Linhua, who had evaded Rong Jian’s search, was now calling her.
“I have some very important physical evidence for the murder of Zhao Yongli that I wish to hand over personally to you. I’ll wait for you at the Phoenix Village bus station at Phoenix Gully.”
Feeling wary of the danger, Mu Yu questioned him, “Why didn’t you send the evidence to the Bureau?”
“I have my reasons. If you don’t trust me, I’ll call it off.”
“Hey! Wait!” Fearing that he would hang up on her, she immediately changed her tactic. “I’ll go! However, the Phoenix Gully is rather secluded and I don’t know how to drive. Can I have a friend accompany me?”
“No, you can’t! You can only come alone. If not, I will not hand you the physical evidence. Doctor Mu, if you cannot do it, I’ll…”
“I can! I will!”
“Good. Take a cab over and we’ll meet at the Phoenix Village bus station half an hour later. Remember, if you come with someone else, I will not meet you.” After a pause, Wang Linhua added, “Doctor Mu, you’re a good person, and I will not harm a good person.” Then, he ended the call.
“I’ll have Huang Bo make the arrangements.” Qin Jinhuan approached her from the moment she mentioned Wang Linhua. Apparently, he had guessed the suspect’s instructions for her. Therefore, he headed outside immediately.
“No!” Just when Mu Yu was about to follow him out, she suddenly thought of Shang Huining and Shang Qi. She immediately turned to wave at them apologetically before running out of the room.
“President Qin, if you need my help, just let me know.” Shang Huining thought that Mu Yu had encountered some trouble and hurried out to ask Qin Jinhuan.
“It’s okay. It’s a small problem. Thanks anyway.” Qin Jinhuan turned down the offer politely.
“Huan, if you send someone to Phoenix Village, I’m afraid that you’ll scare Wang Linhua away! Look, the fixed line number is from the Phoenix Gully area, which means that he’s arrived at the village and is probably hiding somewhere in the dark.” Mu Yu followed Qin Jinhuan into the elevator and signaled at him to look at her phone. Next, she frantically talked him out of it, “He told me that he would like to pass me some important physical evidence of the Zhao Yongli case. He will only meet me if I go alone.”
“Young mistress, please show me his number,” Huang Bo interrupted.
“Hasn’t Kiki turned herself in for the murder case?” Qin Jinhuan reminded her.
“Gosh, I totally forgot about that.” Noting that Huang Bo had written down the phone number, Mu Yu immediately scrolled to Rong Jian’s contact and dialed his number. “I have to call Chief Rong to get a confirmation. If Kiki is the murderer, there is no need for me to meet with Wang Linhua.”
As she was speaking, the line was connected and she immediately asked Rong Jian for updates on Kiki’s situation.
“It’s true that Kiki has admitted to killing Zhao Yongli and she told us her motive,” Rong Jian answered. “But she’s unwilling to reveal the process and the murder weapon. She kept urging us to prosecute her. I couldn’t help but feel that she’s hiding something.”
Mu Yu suddenly came to a realization and immediately told Rong Jian about Wang Linhua’s call and her decision to meet him.
“You cannot go alone! It’s dangerous. Hang on there. I’ll deploy some men right now!” Rong Jian apparently had the same guess as Mu Yu and instantly expressed his objection.
“It’s too late to deploy forces now. If he finds out about this, he will not meet me.”
“Who cares! Your safety is our priority!”
Mu Yu understood that Rong Jian was scared of Qin Jinhuan. She gave the man beside her a look and said in determination, “In order to solve the case, I must go!”
“Yu!”
“Chief Rong, we all know the character of Zhao Yongli. Even if Wang Linhua murdered him, Zhao Yongli deserved it and he couldn’t blame anyone for the tragedy. I believe that Wang Linhua is not a dangerous and malicious person. Alright, let’s settle for now. I’ll contact you after I meet with Wang Linhua.”
Mu Yu ended the call. She smiled and consoled Qin Jinhuan who was trying to stop her, “Huan, don’t worry. It’s not dangerous.”
“Who says so? You?” Qin Jinhuan was unwilling to give in. “Don’t you know the nature of the person you’re about to meet? You’re merely a forensic doctor, not a public security or police officer!”
“Forensic doctors are also part of the public security system! We have the responsibility and the duty to assist with solving the case!” Right then, her voice softened and she started begging, “Huan, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of myself.”
“I forbid you to take the risk!”
Mu Yu gave it some thought and tried to reach a compromise with him. “What if you let Huang Bo disguise as the cabbie? You’ll probably feel less worried that way. Huang Bo alone could probably take down four to five Wang Linhuas.”
“If you insist on meeting him, I’ll go with you.”
“No, you can’t!”
“I’ve decided to.” Qin Jinhuan pulled her and walked out while ordering Huang Bo to flag down a cab.
“Huan, you cannot go! Huan! Huan!”
Seeing that her attempt was futile, she felt stuck in a difficult position. She didn’t want Qin Jinhuan to take the risk, but on the other hand, she was curious about Wang Linhua’s motive behind the invitation.
Her guts told her that Wang Linhua’s motive was definitely more complicated than wanting to take her hostage.
“Boss, I have found the location of the public phone that Wang Linhua used to call the young mistress.” Huang Bo did not flag down a cab but instead interrupted their argument, “One of my friends is from Phoenix Village. I have asked him to bring Cheng Xiang and a few others to the place. My friend even contacted someone from his hometown to keep a lookout and inform us if any strangers show up. Boss, you are a public figure and I guess that Wang Linhua would recognize you too. That’s why you cannot disguise as a cabbie. I’ll do it; I will try my best to protect the young mistress.”
Mu Yu immediately agreed, “Yes, yes, let Huang Bo go with me. He is a total stranger and Wang Linhua definitely would not suspect him. Oh right, I still have this with me.” She took out a golden scalpel from her bag.
Qin Jinhuan was a little taken aback. “Haven’t you returned the entire set of scalpels to me?”
She chuckled sheepishly. “Didn’t I get angry at you before? Now that we’re good, I secretly took out the scalpel from your table. Alright, no time to chat. You have to trust Huang Bo. I’ll be fine, and I’ll be back soon.”
When she saw a cab stopping in front of her, she kept the scalpel and got into the vehicle. She was so obstinate that there was no way for Qin Jinhuan to stop her, which explained why he did not attempt to talk her out of it. Instead, he turned to nag at Huang Bo.
While responding to him, Huang Bo paid the cabbie to leave the cab to him and later drove the cab toward the countryside.
As they went closer to the destination, Mu Yu became more nervous on the back passenger seat. Although she knew that Huang Bo and Cheng Xiang had been fully prepared for the task, she could not contain her worries as she was meeting a murder suspect after all.
The cab finally stopped at the Phoenix Village bus station, and Huang Bo turned to look at Mu Yu.
Ten minutes ago, he received a call from Cheng Xiang stating that they had found traces of Wang Linhua near the Land God Temple in the west of Phoenix Village. Five minutes ago, he got another call from Cheng Xiang, reporting that Wang Linhua was hidden somewhere around the bus station.
Mu Yu kept quiet and frantically looked at the car window that was illuminated by the street lamps. It started to rain and the window was streaked with raindrops.
“Young mistress, you…”
Mu Yu’s phone ringtone interrupted Huang Bo’s speech and sent a chill down her spine. This time, it was an unknown phone number.
“Young mistress?” Huang Bo noticed that she only stared at her phone without picking up the call, and he looked at her in astonishment.
Feeling cold from head to toe, she forced herself to calm down and took the call with shaky hands.
“Doctor Mu, please leave the car and walk about ten meters to the front. After that, continue walking on the path to your right. I’ll wait for you there.” The caller was Wang Linhua indeed.
“D-Didn’t you request to meet at the bus station?” Her voice trembled along with her body.
“Doctor Mu, don’t worry. You’re a good person and I’ll definitely not harm you. I swear!”
“I…”
“Come here now. I’ll hand the physical evidence to you.”
The attractiveness of the evidence motivated her to get out of the car. Clutching her phone tightly, she took a deep breath, gritted her teeth and opened the car door.
“Young mistress!”
“I’ll be fine.” She forced herself to walk out of the car.
“The umbrella!” Huang Bo rummaged through the side pockets and found a foldable umbrella, which he handed to her over the car window that had been rolled down.
“Thanks.” Mu Yu took the umbrella and slowly opened it. She lowered her head and inhaled deeply. Next, she forced herself to focus on walking toward the direction that Wang Linhua instructed her to. Nobody knew how terribly afraid she felt at that moment.
It was a rainy night and she was alone on her way to meet Wang Linhua who looked like a wife-killing maniac. The situation looked more and more like the sinister rainy night from ten years ago, which was just short of a beheaded woman.
The rain became heavier. Her footsteps became loaded and her heart pumped wildly as she was gripped by a rising fear.
Don’t be afraid. Mu Yu, don’t be afraid. It’s going to be alright. Wang Linhua is not the maniac. Don’t be scared. Cheng Xiang and his men are out there somewhere to keep guard.
Trembling, Mu Yu tried her best to comfort herself as she slowly walked down the countryside path and checked her surroundings frantically.
Thankfully, the countryside path was illuminated by street lamps. Even though the lights were dim, they were enough to calm her fears. With the help of the light, Cheng Xiang and the others could at least see her and provide protection if needed.
After walking for thirty to forty meters on the path, she was suddenly blocked by a man who jumped out from the back of a tree. She was shocked and almost caused her to drop her umbrella.
“Doctor Mu, it’s me.”
Is he Wang Linhua?
With the help of the dim street lamps, Mu Yu squinted her eyes and recognized Wang Linhua, a sight that made her even more scared. She stammered as she asked him, “Mr. Wang, you requested to meet me in such a secluded area. I wonder why… Ah! W-What do you want to do?”
“Don’t worry, Doctor Mu. Please don’t get me wrong.” Wang Linhua hurriedly hid the knife in his hand to his back and explained frantically, “I do not plan to harm you at all. That was the murder weapon! The weapon used to kill Zhao Yongli!”
The men who were crouching among the wilted bushes aimed their guns at Wang Linhua’s head. When they saw him keeping the knife, they secretly sighed in relief and relaxed their fingers on the trigger as they continued monitoring his movements closely.
“The murder weapon? Let me take a look.” On the other side, Mu Yu tried to suppress her fear and stared widely at Wang Linhua. When he finally showed his hand again, she noticed that the knife that scared her out of her wits was wrapped up in a transparent plastic bag.
“Technically, this is the weapon that pierced Zhao Yongli’s heart. Take a look at this too.” He showed her another transparent plastic bag that contained a white gauze mask. “This is the face mask that was used to suffocate him.”
“Is this another physical evidence that you wish to hand to me?” Mu Yu took a closer look and estimated the size of the mask, which matched the marks on Zhao Yongli’s corpse. She had some clue in her mind but still checked with him doubtfully, “Why would you have the murder weapons?”
“That’s because I’m the murderer; Zhao Yongli’s murderer.” Wang Linhua’s expression and voice were eerily calm. “Kiki has nothing to do with his death.”
