Fu Qinglun had really left, vanishing from Karghalik without a trace. No one knew where he had gone and when he was ever going to come back.
If he was ever going to come back.
Fu Jingtong and Lin Shiyu’s wedding was set for two weeks later. Lin Shiyu had led a peaceful life for the entire two weeks and she was able to spend every single day with her mother in the apartment. Mama Lin left the world after the end of those precious two weeks.
On that final day, Mama Lin lay on the bed while Lin Shiyu knelt beside her. She held Lin Shiyu gently while looking at her only daughter in an endearing manner. “Shi’shi, Mom can’t accompany you anymore in the future and my only worry is you. After I’m gone, you’ll be left all alone. My Shi’shi will be so lonely and there won’t be anyone to protect you when anyone tries to take advantage of you.”
Lin Shiyu wore a simple white knit sweater, her silky waves cascaded down her back, revealing her beautiful face. She kept a smile on the entire time, the faint yellow lights in the room shone on her face.
“Mom, don’t worry about me. I’m all grown up and I’m 21 years old. Even if I’m alone, I’ll be able to live well by myself. I won’t allow anyone to take advantage of me.”
Mama Lin’s eyes were red, she wished for her Shi’shi to not put up a strong front before her at this moment. She wished for her Shi’shi to just let her emotions out. She was allowed to cry, hug her mother tightly and say, ‘Mom, please don’t leave, I’m afraid’.
But she didn’t. Her daughter had always been so strong.
Her Shi’shi had always been like that ever since she was young, she could always deal with every single matter with a clear mind. She would always shoulder the stress and burden and never inconvenience anyone else other than herself.
“Shi’shi, where’s Qinglun?” Mama Lin looked around for Fu Qinglun.
Lin Shiyu lowered her lashes once she heard his name. “Mom, have you forgiven him?”
“Shi’shi, on the day of my discharge from the hospital, Qinglun placed a knife into my hands. He told me then, “Mom, please stab me with this knife. If I don’t die from it, could you please allow Shi’shi and I to stay together?'” Mama Lin patted Lin Shiyu’s hand. “I gave it some thought, everyone should continue to look to the future and put down unhappy things that happened in the past. I’ve watched how Qinglun has treated you over the years. For a man to be willing to get stabbed just to keep this relationship, this proves that he loves you more than himself.”
He stabbed himself?
She hadn’t known at all.
No wonder he had a wound on his chest and often bled. So it turned out that he had let himself be stabbed in the chest.
She batted her eyelashes, her mother’s voice resounding in her ears. She lowered her eyes again while listening to her mother’s words.
“We as women actually have many ways of living our best life. The most simple way would be to pick someone to live with for the rest of our lives and grow old together, but not everyone is that lucky to meet their one true love. But Qinglun is that one person you can trust. I know he’ll be the one to grow old with you.
“My life isn’t exactly a failure, that’s because I’ve given birth to such an amazing daughter.” Mama Lin’s gaze landed on Lin Shiyu’s face, tears trickling down her face. She grasped Lin Shiyu’s hand tightly. “Shi’shi, Mom is going to hand you over to Qinglun. Mom believes that no matter what happens in the future, he’ll be sure to protect you and love you on my behalf. Shi’shi, you must lead a blissful life with him.”
Hearing her mother’s words, Lin Shiyu’s eyes reddened and quickly nodded her head. “Yes, Mom, I promise.”
“I’ll rest assured then.” Mama Lin lifted her hand and ran her fingers over Lin Shiyu’s face. “Shi’shi, I love you.”
Shi’shi, I love you.
Mama Lin’s hand slid down.
Like that, Mama Lin had left the world.
Her mother was gone.
Lin Shiyu looked at her mother, her eyes were shut and she had left the world peacefully. Her mother knew nothing about her breakup with Fu Qinglun, her mother had no worries before she left the world.
Tears welled up in her eyes and they started streaming down her face in a matter of seconds.
She knelt by the bedside, encircling her mother’s body with her arms and she leaned her head on her mother’s shoulder.
“Mom, I love you too… in our next life, let’s be mother and daughter again…”
…
Mama Lin’s burial took place and the wedding was postponed until one month later.
A month later, it was time for the wedding.
Lin Shiyu sat in the makeup room, someone had helped her to wear the wedding dress and she looked in the mirror. She thought to herself, though she had married Fu Qinglun, she had never once worn a wedding dress.
She didn’t expect herself to wear a wedding dress for the first time under such circumstances.
She heard a shriek. “Ah, Miss Lin, you’re bleeding!”
Lin Shiyu looked down, the white gown was tainted with blood, she felt a warm liquid coming out from below.
…
Fu Jingtong had arrived, there were the sounds of firecrackers going off from outside. “The groom is here to pick up the bride.”
Fu Jingtong pushed the door open and he expected Lin Shiyu to appear before his eyes, all dolled up in her wedding dress but he was aghast. There wasn’t anyone in the room.
The bride had gone missing.
Lin Shiyu had gone missing.
Fu Jingtong’s face instantly darkened, he pulled the boutonnière out and stomped on it. “Hurry up and find her!”
“Understood, Young Master Jingtong!”
Fu Jingtong had chased all the way to the pier when he noticed a yacht preparing to leave. A lithe figure was standing on the yacht.
It was Lin Shiyu.
She was wearing a maxi dress with a white down jacket outside. As she stood there, the cold sea breeze blew her curly hair around and her maxi dress billowed out around her.
She had fooled him!
Fu Jingtong grimaced. “I don’t care what it takes, stop that yacht from leaving. This is Karghalik, does she really think that she’s able to leave?”
“Yes, Young Master.” His underlings were ready to stop the yacht from departing.
But he heard a voice from behind. “Young Master Jingtong, you shouldn’t bother. The yacht has already departed.”
Fu Jingtong looked with the tail of his eye, a luxury car parked beside him and a bodyguard opened the back door. Tang Mo’er had alighted from the car.
Tang Mo’er had come.
Tang Mo’er wore a yellow maxi dress with a white coat wrapped around her. She stood confidently in front of Fu Jingtong and looked right in his eyes without faltering.
Fu Jingtong’s heart sank, he had finally figured out that he had fallen into a trap. Lin Shiyu had already planned everything, including her escape.
She had pretended to succumb to his threats. She had made sure that Fu Qinglun had left safely before she accompanied her mother in her last days. Now that she had completed everything, she had left.
“Lin Shiyu!” Fu Jingtong screamed out in frustration.
Lin Shiyu turned back and witnessed the scene on the shore. She merely glanced at him for just a while, before she slowly turned around and faced the sea.
The yacht continued to move away, taking her with it.
