After hanging up, Song Qingcheng grabbed her backpack from the bed and ran down the apartment stairs.
Forty minutes later, she arrived at the hospital.
She pushed open the door of the ward and saw Ge Wenjuan sitting on a stool by the bed. She was wearing a pair of wide-legged pants and had a Prada handbag on her crossed legs. Her stilettos added an air of dominance and aggression to her. When she heard the door open, Ge Wenjuan turned to look. Be it her expression or her demeanor, she seemed out of place in this ordinary ward.
“You’re here.” Grandma was leaning against the headboard with a loving expression.
“Mm.” Song Qingcheng smiled slightly. She calmed her breathing and walked to the bed. “Have you eaten lunch?”
“Some time ago. Sister Zhang went to buy some food at 10.30 am.” Seeing the thin film of perspiration on her granddaughter’s forehead, the old lady asked with concern, “Is it very hot outside?”
“Not that bad.” Song Qingcheng turned to look at Ge Wenjuan.
This was Ge Wenjuan’s first time visiting Grandma. When her grandmother told her on the phone that Ge Wenjuan had come to the hospital, she was slightly surprised… because it wasn’t Ge Wenjuan’s style to be nice to someone useless to her.
Every time she came to the hospital and the Lu family came into the conversation, Song Qingcheng would always say ‘Uncle and Aunt treat me really well’. Naturally, she did not want to have her own lies exposed and make the old lady worry.
However, before she could say anything, Ge Wenjuan stood up. “Since she’s here now, I’ll take my leave. I do have something to attend to in the afternoon.” With that, she picked up her bag and left.
The sound of high heels faded as the woman walked away.
As Song Qingcheng retracted her gaze from the door, her grandmother said earnestly, “Your aunt said that she called you many times and even went to school, but she couldn’t find you. In the future, when you go to your classmates’ house, inform your uncle and aunt. Don’t do this again lest they worry.”
Although she did not believe that Ge Wenjuan would worry about her, Song Qingcheng nodded cooperatively. She held the old lady’s hand and comforted her with a smile. “Okay, I understand.”
…
Song Qingcheng did not stay in the hospital for too long. Her grandma was afraid that she would interrupt her review and kept urging her to return to school.
Just as she stepped out of the hospital, Song Qingcheng was stopped in her tracks at the entrance.
Her heart raced uncontrollably.
She pretended not to see the other party and wanted to walk in another direction. However, as she turned around, she was once again stopped by someone standing right in her path.
“Why are you trying to run away? I don’t bite.” CEO Liu’s sinister laughter came from behind.
Song Qingcheng could only turn around and face the approaching CEO Liu. She forced a smile. “CEO Liu, what a coincidence.”
“This isn’t a coincidence. I’ve been waiting here especially for Miss Song.” CEO Liu flicked his cigarette ash. There were two cigarette butts where he had been standing earlier. It was obvious that he had been waiting for a while. “I wanted to ask Miss Song out for dinner two nights ago, but… hard as I tried, I was unable to contact you. Then, your aunt called me earlier and said that you were waiting for me at the hospital. I rushed over to pick you up without stopping to have lunch.”
Song Qingcheng was a smart girl. Of course, she knew what all this meant.
Ge Wenjuan couldn’t find her so she came to the hospital to look for her grandma… because she was sure that this way, Song Qingcheng would turn up.
The driver who had stopped Song Qingcheng had now opened the back door of the car.
Song Qingcheng did not budge.
CEO Liu licked his lips. “I heard that your grandma is hospitalized here. Shall I go and visit her?”
With that, he made a move to go into the hospital.
“Don’t…” Song Qingcheng reached out to stop him.
CEO Liu raised his eyebrows at her.
Song Qingcheng understood what he meant. She walked over and got into the car.
