The first time Song Qingcheng saw that man was at the entrance of the Yu family’s old residence.
She followed Yu Jing into the house. Just as the two of them were about to change into slippers, Yu Jing suddenly let out an ‘ooo’ sound. Song Qingcheng followed her gaze and saw a pair of handmade brown suede leather shoes at the entrance.
Seeing the man coming down the stairs, Yu Jing quickly picked up the school bag that she had carelessly tossed on the ground, and she greeted him politely, “Second Uncle, you’re home!”
Yu Tingchuan returned early from his business trip and arranged for an impromptu meeting at the company. He had left an important document at the old residence, and he specially came to retrieve it. Seeing his niece standing at the entrance, he raised his wrist and glanced at the time on his watch. “School ended so early today?”
“It’s Friday. After the spring cleaning, the teacher asked us to leave school early.”
“You didn’t get the chauffeur to pick you up?”
Having said this, Yu Tingchuan noticed that there was a rather good-looking figure by the door.
Song Qingcheng was looking at a man wearing a smoky gray shirt with two top buttons undone. He was tall and had the mature aura of an adult man. When he glanced over from the corner of his eye, he looked calm, but there was an indescribable dominance in his aura that deterred people from trying to be funny with him.
“Qingcheng and I took a taxi back together,” Yu Jing said as she slid her arms around the arm of the girl next to her and introduced, “Second Uncle, this is my schoolmate, Song Qingcheng. She’s from the next class.”
Yu Tingchuan nodded and did not ask further. He picked up the suit that was draped over the sofa and prepared to leave.
“Second Uncle, you’re not having dinner at home?”
“No, I have something to do at the office.”
Yu Jing pulled Song Qingcheng to the side and said ingratiatingly, “Drive safe then, Second Uncle.”
Yu Tingchuan changed into his leather shoes and had intended to look at his niece, but his gaze first fell on Yu Jing who had not spoken a word. The girl stood there demurely. Her long black hair was tied into a ponytail, revealing her bright and full forehead. A few wisps of hair casually fell on the side of her cheeks. Not only did the blue and white summer school uniform not make her look older than her age, but it actually accentuated her pureness and charm as well.
Just then, Yu Tingchuan’s phone rang.
He took out his phone from his pocket and glanced at it before instructing Yu Jing in his steady and magnetic voice, “Focus on your homework. Don’t just spend time playing on the computer.”
Yu Jing nodded repeatedly.
Yu Jing only relaxed when she heard the sound of a car engine starting outside. She sat down on the ground and signaled at Song Qingcheng by patting the seat beside her. Then, she turned to the kitchen and called out, “Auntie Xu, make me two banana milkshakes please!”
Shifting her gaze away from the doorway, Song Qingcheng asked casually, “Are you afraid of your uncle?”
Yu Jing’s face grew bitter. She pouted and mumbled, “Don’t even mention it. In this household, I’m most afraid of my second uncle.”
“He hits people?”
“No.” Yu Jing pulled Song Qingcheng to sit on the sofa with her. “He just doesn’t smile. He doesn’t talk much usually. Perhaps he has to keep a straight face as the company’s CEO. Otherwise, he won’t be able to control the people below him.”
Just then, the housekeeper brought two milkshakes to the living room.
Song Qingcheng took it and thanked her.
Auntie Xu couldn’t help but took a few more glances at her.
Sensing the gaze overhead, Song Qingcheng looked up and smiled at Auntie Xu. Auntie Xu was a little embarrassed and said to Yu Jing, “Jingjing, is this your classmate? She’s really pretty.”
“Of course!” Yu Jing hooked her arm around Song Qingcheng’s shoulder and said proudly, “Qingcheng is the goddess of Yuan Wei. The number of people wooing her is enough to circle around our school several times.”
Song Qingcheng lowered her eyes, a shy smile on her lips.
