Van Gogh Reborn! - Chapter 45
‘What is this.’
Ko Sooyeol has been exposed to numerous masterpieces so far.
He was also a master Artist representing a country, and he was well aware that his grandson Ko Hun had extraordinary talents.
The paintings he have drawn so far have been the evidence.
[Birdhouse], [Sunflower], and [Guest] were really outstanding works that moved the hearts of viewer in their own way.
It felt like the birth of a master who would dominate an era.
But this picture was different.
The moment he saw with his eyes, he couldn’t get out of the image conveyed by the painting.
The infinitely benevolent frost wheat field did not contain much.
Ko Hun didn’t even use many colors.
Only black, blue, white, and brown were used.
Color was added to the color rather than the shape, and the texture of the subject was expressed by brush touch.
The wind drawn in blue, black, and white could not be so heartless.
The blue and black sky was ominous.
‘However, why is the frozen land below it warm?’
The frost on the dry wheat field shone.
“What do you think grandpa?”
Ko Hun asked again.
“……”
Ko Sooyeol couldn’t answer.
He diddn’t know how to express the feelings he received through Ko Hun’s paintings.
He didn’t even want to.
Now he just wanted to feel the image of frost wheat fields.
After a while.
“Atchoo!”
Ko Hun sneezed.
Only then did Ko Sooyeol come to his senses.
“Let’s go in.”
Ko Sooyeol, who came to his senses, grabbed Ko Hun’s hand after taking the canvas.
Like his feet walking in a hurry, Ko Sooyeol’s heart also raced in a hurry.
And of course, Ko Hun, who was outside in the cold weather for long, caught a cold.
Ko Sooyeol hurriedly took his grandson to a nearby hospital.
Only after hospitalization at the doctor’s recommendation he could take a breather.
“He-he.”
“Hey, are you laughing?”
Ko Sooyeol’s heart ached when he saw his grandson smiling helplessly as the fever reached 38 degrees.
“ Grandpa…..The wheat field,”
Ko Hun said with a smile.
“I thought it shined thanks to the…sun… But….?”
Ko Sooyeol wiped off the forehead of his grandson, who was sweating profusely.
Ko Hun’s voice got smaller and smaller.
“It’s not because of the sunlight in spring and summer, they endure the cold autumn and winter…….”
“ Okay I got it…..Now, sleep.”
Ko Sooyeol patted Ko Hun’s head in the hope that his sick grandson would fall asleep soon.
“It’s all thanks to the……..Earth”
Ko Hun saw benevolence and hope in the frozen wheat field.
The love of the Earth that blocked the cold wind and frost with its whole body so that wheat seeds could grow.
Wheat seeds that are loved by the Earth, will sprout at the moment of light.
Ko Hun was no longer afraid of the wheat fields of Auverts, which he saw as Van Gogh while waiting for his death.
Ko Sooyeol silently listened to his grandson.
“But no one watches winter wheat fields. They only look at the shining golden summer wheat fields. That’s bad.”
Ko Sooyeol understood Ko Hoon’s words in his own way.
Numerous artists who have outstanding talents and are not recognized for their constant efforts came to mind.
There is only one person who came to his mind in connection with the frosted wheat fields.
Vincent van Gogh.
Van Gogh, sowed and protected the seeds called his art, in cold environment he lived.
After his demise, the seeds he protected grew and were celebrated by the people for its value.
Ko Sooyeol felt like his grandson Ko Hun’s [Frost Wheat Field] was dedicate to Vincent van Gogh.
“Gran.d..pa……”
Ko Hun mumbled as he started to sleep due to the effects of the medicine.
Ko Sooyeol smiled and kissed his grandson’s forehead.
He turned off the light and lay down in the bed next to his grandson.
‘Maybe city is not the answer.’
Ko Sooyeol hoped that Ko Hun, inspired by nature, would develop his current vision in Art.
‘It’s a waste to lose such a talent.’
The past six weeks of traveling to Europe, his grandson became noticeably bright and eventually painted works such as [Guest] and [Frost Wheat Field].
‘I don’t think it would have been possible if we had stayed in one place.’
Ko Sooyeol thought that it was better for Ko Hun to not stay in one city for a long time, it is better to travel to various regions and have various experiences.
‘I’ve decided……’
As Ko Sooyeol felt the tension he had before the European tour disappear, he quickly fell asleep next to his grandson.
The next morning, Ko Hun munched on the boiled chicken, salmon salad, and bread that came out for breakfast.
The child, who had been suffering because of fever yesterday, ate like a child who had starved for a few days.
So Ko Sooyeol felt very relieved.
“Do you have any pain? Is the food good?”
“Yes. It’s good Grandpa. Hurry up and eat it grandpa,”
Ko Hun said, while stretching the food in his fork to his grandfather.
“ You eat. Grandpa will eat it later. Chew it before you eat it. Don’t forget to drink lot of water.”
“Unn.”
Ko Hoon, who ate cheesecake for dessert, opened his eyes wide and made a fuss.
“Grandpa Grandpa….. Try this!”
“Hoho. Is it that good for making little Hun jump.?”
“This is a revolution. It’s the greatest revolution the French has ever done since the French Revolution!”
Ko Sooyeol laughed at Ko Hun’s exaggerated reaction.
“Hey Hun, Eat slowly. How good is the cheesecake for you to fill your mouth with cheesecake?”
“It’s really great grandpa. Hurry up and try it!”
Ko Sooyeol had no choice but to take some of Ko Hun’s cheese cake.
“How is it grandpa.? Isn’t it delicious.?”
“Right! How can there be such a texture. When the frozen cheese melts and wraps the tongue as soon as it touches it. This is really a revolution.”
⏩⏩⏩⏩⏩⏩
It’s nice to have a healthy body.
After a good night’s sleep, the fever was gone and I was discharged from the hospital in a day.
The problem was [Frost wheat field].
It was good when drawing, but I don’t know how to dry it.
The exterior of the paint is dry due to the wind and dry weather, but it seems to take a long time to dry inside as it is thickly applied.
First of all, I left it by the window on the second floor of grandpa Martin’s research institute, but now I’m worried that I can’t carry it around while traveling.
“You can stay here until it’s dry. How about that?”
Grandpa Martin said as if it wasn’t a big deal.
But my Grandpa shook his head and said.
“It takes months for such a thickly applied painting to dry even with a drying accelerator.”
“Is that so?”
As my grandpa said, we have to wait at least three months for the paint to dry.
It’s a painting that I really like, and I want to keep it as safe as possible.
“Then, leave it behind, I’ll take care of it.”
“No.”
Grandpa Martin is a great and wonderful person, but he lacks knowledge of painting to entrust my painting.
“Why?”
“I can’t believe grandpa Martin’s skills. You didn’t even know I had to dry the paint.”
“ I don’t know. But, there are researchers, who can manage it well.”
That’s right, they seem to be managing my paintings owned by the Van Gogh Foundation and the Van Gogh Institute.
I think it’s a good idea, but I want to manage it myself.
It’s a picture that can’t be left to others.
“Grandpa, can’t we take the painting back to Korea?”
“There’s nothing your Grandpa can’t do. It’s too much to go around here and there with the painting in that shape. This should be fixed well.”
Grandpa looked at [Frost Wheat Field] and nodded as if he had decided on something.
“Martin, is there a place that handles frames?”
“Well, you can’t find them here. Why don’t you go out to Paris instead of looking here?”
It’s better to follow grandpa Martin’s suggestion.
Since it bothers me, I also want to buy a frame that is hard and sturdy.
“Okay, then it’s decided. To find out about the frame, Hun, let’s go to Paris tomorrow.”
“Huh…Not today?”
“You just got discharged from the hospital, so don’t overdo it. Take a good rest today,”
Grandpa Martin laughed loudly as he nodded his head.
“Ha ha hah! Since it’s decided, let me borrow your grandfather for today.”
“Borrow?”
“Yes. Your grandfather needs to make a speech so that sponsors can gather. Only then I can display Van Gogh’s painting at the Ravoux Lodger.”
Grandfather shook his head.
He doesn’t seem to like it.
“Stop it Martin. This is the last time. Only two minutes tops. I won’t talk any longer.”
If my painting is displayed in the attic of Ravoux Lodger, it won’t be too bad.
“I think it’ll be cool.”
“Right? See…Even Hun says it’s cool. Since you decided to do it, make it cool.”
“Hmm.”
Grandfather’s lips were pouting.
I look forward to the speech of Artist Ko Sooyeol, who people greet wherever we go in Europe.
“I also want to go, grandpa.”
“No. Lie down. Did you take the medicine after breakfast?”
“I don’t have to take it grandpa. It doesn’t hurt at all. I don’t even have a fever.”
“Would the doctor have given you medicine for nothing? Don’t be stubborn. Now go and rest. I’ll come in before dinner.”
I’m fine, but grandpa doesn’t believe it.
Thank you for loving me, but I hope you understand how frustrated I am because I couldn’t go outside for a week because of the reporters.
“I’ll buy you a cheesecake.”
“Ok Fine, but you should buy me two cheesecakes”
If it’s for cheesecake it’s worth waiting for.
