Lin Wan returned to her room and looked at her phone. She put a straw in the cup, leaned on the bed and sipped her tea.
It was just her second day in the Lan Village, and there were even more negative comments than before:
[Lin Wan drinks goji berries at the age of just 28, Li Yanchen must be fierce.]
[God’s comment: An old house on fire burns more intensely.]
‘Li Yanchen ‘s meaningful gaze from before… could he be thinking the same?’
Lin Wan did not care about what others thought of her, but Li Yanchen should not think too much about it. If he really thought that she had that kind of motive and he expected her to spend the night with him…
Lin Wan did not dare think further than that.
She finished the fruit tea in a few gulps and fell asleep.
On the third day of the live broadcast, Li Yanchen, afraid that people would find out about his unusual relationship with Lin Wan, got up early and washed up before the livestream began.
Li Zekai woke up very early. When he walked to his room, he realized that his father wasn’t there. He got anxious because he thought his father had left. He looked all around and finally saw Li Yanchen near the well.
Li Zekai ran to Li Yanchen and jumped up in his arms. “Daddy! You are here! I looked for you everywhere, I thought you left!”
Li Yanchen picked up the child. “I wouldn’t leave without telling you. Go and wake your brothers. I will wake Auntie.”
“Dad, you’re not allowed to tell anyone that Jiejie slept in Auntie’s room yesterday because I was afraid!” said Li Zekai, holding onto his father.
“Alright, but you have to promise that you won’t tell anyone that I have been sleeping in your bed.” The two of them made a promise.
In the room, Lin Wan slept soundly. She had never been so tired in her entire life.
Li Yanchen looked at the woman sleeping. She looked so at peace.
This was the first time he had seen her like this. It was also the first time he had seen her from so close. She looked delicate. Her lashes drooped on her cheeks. Her hands clenched the blanket tightly, half of which had fallen on the floor. One of her legs was straight while the other was bent at the knee.
‘Maybe I should let her sleep a little longer,’ thought Li Yanchen.
He was about to walk out of the room when he heard Li Zekai run into the room and shout, “Daddy! Big brother is already awake. What are we eating today? I am hungry!”
His voice was simply too loud. Li Yanchen tried to tell him to be quiet but Lin Wan had woken up.
She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and noticed Li Yanchen in front of her. The first thought that came to mind was that the man might have run back into her room in the middle of the night.
Lin Wan sat up and looked at herself. The blanket was on the floor, and she was only wearing her pajamas.
“Li Yanchen, didn’t I tell you not to carry Li Zekai away in the middle of the night?” her face turned red. Of course, nothing had happened between them but she couldn’t accept the fact that Li Yanchen might have climbed into the bed without asking her first.
Li Yanchen frowned. ‘Does she find me so untrustworthy?’
“Auntie, daddy didn’t carry me away,” explained Li Zekai. “I woke up early and went to the other room to wake my brothers. Daddy came here to wake you.”
Lin Wan was embarrassed.
“Dad, what are we having for breakfast? Are we going to Guoguo’s house to eat?” Li Zekai was stuck to Li Yanchen like a leech.
“I’ll cook you some porridge,” said Li Yanchen. It wasn’t polite to head to somebody’s house for food right after waking up. “You can go and help at Guoguo’s after you eat.”
“Okay, Jiejie wants to eat the porridge daddy makes! But daddy, do you know how to make porridge?” asked Li Zekai. Li Yanchen carried his son and walked out of the room.
“I can always learn. I read the cooking forum yesterday. It’s very simple to make,” said Li Yanchen to his son as he walked.
He had really read the recipe in that forum. He knew that Lin Guoguo’s family would leave soon. He didn’t want his family to starve after that. He decided that he would try and cook instead of burdening Lin Wan, especially since everyone viewed her so negatively online.
Lin Wan recalled that the original novel had made Li Yanchen sound like a cold and mean person, devoid of any emotions. He definitely hadn’t been described as a father who tried to make breakfast for his children. After seeing him these few days, Lin Wan realized that he wasn’t cold and distant at all.
She didn’t care. She didn’t want to think about him. She had to plan for herself. When would this show end?
Lin Wan said to herself, ‘Lin Wan, you are being too greedy. Yesterday, you signed the contract with the Festival Group. The fine for absence was one million Yuan for each episode. ‘Why did you even think you could make it for the next few episodes?’ she chastised herself.
In the beginning, her motivation had been the 140000 Yuan that the show would pay to her for her appearance. It was the amount of money she would have made in a month in her original world. She thought it was a good income. In her original world, she had had to livestream from six in the evening till midnight and had to talk till she couldn’t move her mouth anymore. This had seemed far easier compared to that.
However, as she spent more time with her stepsons, she felt that she had been very naïve. The Festival Group had made her sign the supplementary agreement about the fine when they had noticed her rocky relationship with her stepsons.
She had been too careless. Lin Wan felt very down today. Her emotions were complicated. She felt depressed even though Li Yanchen had managed to prepare a steaming pot of porridge for all of them.
The boys swarmed near the pot. It was clear that Li Yanchen had never cooked before in his life, so his sons complimented him every chance they got.
The livestream started at seven in the morning. The Li family sat around the square table, each with a bowl of porridge in front of them. There weren’t any side dishes to go with the porridge, but the children didn’t care. They ate with relish.
Lin Wan swallowed the food with difficulty. It wasn’t because it tasted bad, but because she was worried. The Festival Group had just issued a mission for the families. They had a game scheduled at ten this morning on the east of the village. It was a fairly common game where one tried to tear the name tag of another person.
The production team wanted to strengthen the relationship between the families, but Lin Wan was worried. She hated sports. She got tired even by walking a little. She was in no mood to play such games. However, the supplementary agreement was clear, if she refused, she would have to pay the fine. She had to cooperate with the activities issued by the Festival Group.
Children liked to be lively. Without a computer, Li Zexin had long been itching for a fight. He wished that the Festival Group could come up with some fun action games. Although tearing name tags was a bit silly, he felt that it was better than cutting firewood or weeding in the fields.
Li Zexuan was willing to play if it kept his brothers happy. They seemed to be in high spirits, so he didn’t want to dampen their moods.
Wheatley’s family was overjoyed. They felt that this event was tailor-made especially for their family. Michael was a fitness coach. There was no one who could defeat him easily.
In Tutu’s House, Su Wei packed his luggage early in the morning and left the village. He told Xu Xiaoxiao to come back by the afternoon at the latest. He had informed the staff to allow her to leave temporarily if Tutu caused too much trouble for Xu Xiaoxiao.
Xiao Xiao’s family was used to going to bed early and waking up very early in the morning. At Five in the morning, Xiao Yi was already up and reading his books while Xia Mo and Xiao Tianlin made breakfast together. They finished making the dessert, too.
