The Tale of Hero Alice's Social Death - Chapter 321
Chapter 321 – Dirty Authority
It was already evening by the time Alice was done fixing her mess in the Royal Magic Tower. Because of the tower’s overly large size, most of the tower’s interior would not receive any sunlight. However, the tower had taken special measures to ensure the basic needs of its students.
Two kinds of lights were used in the Royal Magic Tower’s interior. There were the ordinary incandescent magic lights that were always on, and there were special lights made to simulate the outside world’s lighting. The special lights even came with humidity controllers. This allowed the tower’s students to experience the outside world’s lighting and weather even while indoors.
Hence, when Alice walked out of the dark classroom and saw that the corridor’s lighting had grown dimmer, she guessed it should already be quite late. To verify her guess, she pulled out her phone and saw that it was already nearly eight o’clock in the evening.
As mentioned before, the Royal Magic Tower managed its students quite strictly in certain aspects. For example, students were prohibited from renting houses outside the tower and must stay in the dormitories in the tower at night. If students left the tower and couldn’t return before curfew, they would need to apply for leave from the tower.
Students could leave the Royal Magic Tower during the day using their student IDs, but curfew was set at 8:00 PM. Although they were still allowed to wander around inside the tower, they weren’t allowed to leave without an important reason. Then, by 10:00 PM, all students were required to return to their dorms. Otherwise, they would be violating the rules.
Alice was a special case. Although she had a working student ID, she didn’t have an assigned dormitory. So, unless she wanted to sleep in an abandoned classroom, she would have to find a way to sneak out of the tower and find a place to stay outside. Either that or she could sneak her way into a dormitory.
However, Alice quickly abandoned her idea. After all, curfew was already in effect. This meant she would get caught quickly should she leave the Royal Magic Tower. Although Mador mentioned that the surveillance cameras in the area she was currently in were broken, it didn’t mean that the cameras in other areas were also malfunctioning. She had already suffered at the hands of surveillance cameras several times now, so she didn’t wish to suffer a similar fate here.
Maybe I should develop a taboo that can take care of devices like these surveillance cameras. Although Andusia’s “Mana Tide” works as well, it causes a huge commotion, Alice thought to herself, sighing. Mana Tide, the taboo Andusia previously used to drain all of the mana around Demon King Castle, might be able to disable surveillance cameras, but the taboo did far more than just that. So long as she used Mana Tide in the Royal Magic Tower, she would immediately attract a lot of attention. So, she felt that she should invest some time into researching the operating principles of surveillance cameras and develop a taboo to counter them.
Regardless, since leaving the Royal Magic Tower wasn’t an option, Alice was left with only one option—sneak into a dormitory. Although Alice couldn’t modify or erase the memories of others yet with Consciousness Transformation, she could insert memories into her target.
These memories could be “things that needed to be done in the future” or additional “knowledge.” Meanwhile, Alice’s plan was to find a victim, insert additional knowledge into her victim, and make her victim ignore her presence in their dormitory.
Alice was only searching for a temporary place to stay this time. It was far less risky than her attempt at manipulating Mador to pass on a message for the Demon King. Even so, it had still taken her a lot of time to find a suitable target.
Alice had eventually settled on two girls with somewhat introverted and nerdy personalities. From what she gathered through eavesdropping on their conversation, the two other occupants in their dormitory had left the Royal Magic Tower for some personal matters. This was perfect for Alice since she wouldn’t have fewer problems to worry about.
“The Demon King appeared in the Royal Magic Tower?”
The appearance of the Demon King in the Royal Magic Tower was no laughing matter. To avoid any royal family member from getting affected by this matter, it was necessary to keep everyone informed. So, Lilith, as a member of the Rhine Kingdom’s royal family, naturally got to learn about this matter.
Even if Lilith wasn’t an heir to the throne, she was still the Rhine Kingdom’s princess. Even if she wasn’t appreciated by the king, it didn’t mean that others could bully her. Lilith remained at the top of the pyramid of the Rhine Kingdom’s nobility.
Although one of the Royal Magic Tower’s rules prohibited students from staying outside the tower, Lilith was obviously an exception. After all, she wasn’t a normal person. Standing behind the Royal Magic Tower was the Rhine Kingdom’s royal family. As a member of the royal family, Lilith naturally wouldn’t be bound to this rule.
Because of this, Lilith had her own house outside the palace and the Royal Magic Tower. This house also allowed her to do certain things without being monitored by others.
“Could it be Alice…?”
Lilith revealed a strange expression as she looked at the report in her hands. She naturally remembered that she had released an Alice into the Royal Magic Tower today. Yet, not long after she did so, news of the Demon King infiltrating the tower arrived. This might be a coincidence, but wasn’t it too much of a coincidence?
However, Lilith quickly dismissed the possibility of Alice being the Demon King. Setting aside how ludicrous of an idea this was, if Alice were the Demon King, there was no way the Hero, who was also staying in the Gryffin Kingdom, wouldn’t notice her.
The Hero and the Demon King were mortal enemies. They could definitely recognize each other if they met. Meanwhile, Lilith believed that as the Gryffin Princess, Alice must have met the Hero before. So, she quickly dismissed the possibility that Alice might be the Demon King and simply chalked it up to Alice having terrible luck.
“Whatever. This matter is none of our concern. Since my old man has already sent Second Brother to handle it, he should be using this as an opportunity to generate some fame for Second Brother.”
Lilith shook her head. She was well aware of what was going through the mind of her father, the king. So long as Etoria, her second elder brother, participated in the battle between the Hero and the Demon King, even if he only played a supporting role, he could still garner a lot of positive attention. Their father obviously knew this and was actively using this opportunity to pave a smoother path for Etoria.
Paying no heed to her father’s thoughts, Lilith set the report in her hands aside and said to her guard standing behind her:
“I’ve received the message. Tell my old man that I said thanks for this information… Also, don’t stop doing what I told you to do previously.”
