The Tale of Hero Alice's Social Death - Chapter 253
Chapter 253 – Should I Meet My Son?
After scanning the room with Psychokinetic Transcendence and failing to find any taboos, Alice grew a little impatient. Hence, she started spreading her psychic powers into the walls, hoping to find some sort of hidden compartment.
Unfortunately, Alice quickly frowned again as she opened her eyes and looked toward Andusia in confusion, asking:
“I didn’t find any hidden compartments or doors even with Psychokinetic Transcendence, so there shouldn’t be any more secret rooms nearby. Could it be possible that Grant kept his taboo collection in a different location?”
“That shouldn’t be the case. If this place really did belong to that Grant fellow, his taboo collection should be kept here,” Andusia said, similarly confused by this situation. Then, she looked down at the experiment table she was sitting on and continued, “The experiment table here shows that he had conducted his magic experiments here. In that case, it stands to reason that he would keep the taboo books he’d used here. Otherwise, he’d have to head to a different location to retrieve his books whenever he wanted to experiment on taboos. He’d also have to return those books once done with his experiments. Who’d want to do something as tedious as that?”
What Andusia said made sense. From a normal person’s perspective, since Grant had placed his experiment table here, it stood to reason that he should have also placed his taboo books here. There was even a large bookshelf holding magic books and experiment logs here.
Only, Alice failed to find a single book on taboos even after looking through all of the books on the bookshelf. She had even flipped through the contents of the books to make sure that the covers weren’t just a disguise. Unfortunately, none of the spells recorded in these books were taboos. They were merely strange spells with very little practical uses. When Alice was reading about these spells, she couldn’t help but wonder if Grant had developed these spells or if he was using them to aid him in his experiments.
“But it’s unlikely for Psychokinesis Transcendence to be wrong. I’ve inspected every wall in this room with my psychic power, but I didn’t find any secret compartments,” Alice said, sitting on the chair helplessly. The chairs in this room seemed to be some sort of experimental product as well. They felt like a soft sofa despite their metallic appearance.
While Alice and Andusia were immersed in silence, Kamia, who stood nearby, suddenly spoke up:
“Mama, could the books be stored in a spatial pocket?”
“Huh?” Alice was stunned when she heard Kamia’s words. Turning to the demoness, she asked, “What did you say? A spatial pocket?”
“Mhm. If this room’s owner created a spatial pocket here and stored his things inside, your magic won’t be able to detect them since they are in an entirely different space,” Kamia explained. “Going by your words, the owner of this room should be the previous generation’s Demon King, right? If he is trying to hide something as important as taboos, there is a high chance that he might be hiding them in a spatial pocket.”
“But Grant’s secondary magic is gravity magic. It doesn’t have anything to do with space,” Alice said with a frown. Then, she turned to Andusia for help.
However, Andusia simply shrugged and said, “What are you looking at me for? I don’t know any spatial magic. Spatial magic has always been a rare magic type. Its rarity is comparable to dark magic and light magic. Those with dark or light magic affinities are considered rare talents in both the demon and human realms.”
Are dark and light affinities…very rare?
Alice scratched her head. Her impression of dark and light affinities being rare was warped after encountering so many Demon Kings and Heroes, so she had completely forgotten that these two affinities were, in reality, exceedingly rare in the world.
It made sense, though. If these two affinities weren’t exceedingly rare, she wouldn’t have been deemed as the Hero just because she could use powerful light magic back then.
“Anyway, you seem quite familiar with spatial magic, little fellow. With how rare spatial magic is, the average person wouldn’t necessarily come up with the possibility of a spatial pocket on their first guess.” After speaking to Alice, Andusia turned her attention to Kamia. Fortunately, while Kamia’s perception of reality might have turned a little strange because of Alice’s meddling, her memories in the common sense department didn’t seem to have any problems. “Don’t tell me you know spatial magic?”

“Yes, I do know a little…” Kamia said while scratching her head in embarrassment. She was behaving a little timider now that she was in front of her “mother.” She looked nothing like the female streamer who had been speaking loudly to her online audience outside Demon King Castle. “But my mastery over spatial magic is still crude. The most I can do is use Transfer to conduct short-distance spatial shifts. I still can’t create or open spatial pockets.”
“So you do know spatial magic,” Alice exclaimed, not expecting to encounter another one of these so-called “rare talents” here. “But Grant doesn’t know spatial magic, so how can he create a spatial pocket here?”
“Grant’s a Demon King. Demon Kings don’t need to do everything by themselves. He can simply call one of his subordinates who can use spatial magic to create a spatial pocket here and transfer ownership over it to him,” Andusia explained. “Of course, he probably disposed of that subordinate afterward to keep the spatial pocket’s existence secret, which is normal procedure for Demon Kings.”
“Then, do you know any powerful spatial magicians who can break open spatial pockets, Kamia?” Alice asked as she ignored Andusia’s malicious supplementary explanation and returned her attention to Kamia. “It’s best if they have a proven track record.”
“It shouldn’t be too difficult to find someone like that. Hidden pockets are generally tied to the magician responsible for opening them and the users who had received permission from the magician. If both the creator and the users are dead, the hidden pocket’s security will weaken drastically, making it very easy to open,” Kamia said. She might not have the strength to create or open a hidden pocket, but she had studied spatial magic. So, she knew about the details surrounding spatial pockets. “Big Brother should have no trouble opening the spatial pocket here. Big Brother is a spatial magician like myself, and he is also the one who taught me spatial magic.”
“Your big brother, huh…”
Alice’s head ached a little when she heard Kamia’s suggestion. She had met Kamia’s elder brother, Gel Bifrons, before. Moreover, judging by the rare phone Kamia’s elder brother had given to her, it could be seen that Gel treated his little sister preciously.
If Gel were to find out that his little sister had suddenly gained a new mother, the resulting scene would probably be quite chaotic.
