The Tale of Hero Alice's Social Death - Chapter 236
Chapter 236 – Spring up All Over the Place
The dogkins’ chief totem gave off a faint glow when Andusia injected her mana into it, the glow growing brighter and brighter as if the totem was charging its power.
After the intensity of the glow increased to a certain point, a streak of light escaped from the totem and landed on Alice’s body. As the chief totem’s mana spread across her body, she could feel the presence of multiple auras located at varying distances from her.
These auras belonged to none other than the target Alice was searching for. Alice was certain of this because of these multiple auras, one came from Andusia, and another came from I Was Wrong, which was stored inside the pouch hanging by her waist.
“It actually worked…”
Honestly, Alice had been skeptical about the dogkins’ chief totem being able to locate the Demon King’s Power. After all, the Demon King’s Power was an existence that was tied to the laws of this world. Even if the dogkins’ chief totem was powerful, it wouldn’t necessarily be able to work on the Demon King’s Power.
However, when the chief totem conveyed its search results to her, Alice quickly realized that she had been overcomplicating matters. Unlike what she expected, the dogkins’ totem didn’t need to influence the Demon King’s Power to search for it. Instead, it conducted its search for the Demon King’s Power simply by relying on the mana and aura of the medium it was provided. This search method was so simple and effective that Alice suspected that the dogkins’ chief totem could even search for items related to God.
“But there are currently 17 detectable auras…”
This outcome rendered Alice a little speechless. She didn’t think that there would be so many things related to the Demon King’s Power remaining in this world. In addition to Andusia and I Was Wrong, there were actually 15 other items carrying the Demon King’s Power’s aura in this world.
Although the mana from the dogkins’ chief totem could help Alice perceive the general location of even the farthest aura, it didn’t give her an accurate location. Hence, Alice hurriedly pulled out the map, which she had prepared beforehand, from her backpack and spread it across the table in the room.
There’s one aura about 709 kilometers southeast of here… It’s in Holl City, so this aura should belong to Luna.
Alice quickly approximated the location of one of the auras she felt and marked it on the map. However, when she saw the marker pointing to Holl City, she quickly realized that this aura belonged to Luna.
Luna’s strength was a product of the Demon King’s Power, just like Andusia. So, it was normal that the dogkins’ chief totem could find her.
Anyway, Alice could only sense one aura in Holl City’s vicinity. This meant that the Demon King’s Power had indeed left Holl City after separating from Luna.
Aside from Andusia, I Was Wrong, and Luna, there is one more aura within the Gryffin Kingdom, Alice thought to herself as she circled another location on the map. Then, she closed her eyes, focused her senses, and continued circling other locations on the map.
Four in the Gryffin Kingdom, one in the Ymir Kingdom, two in the Vulcan Kingdom, one in the Rhine Kingdom…none in the Milt Kingdom, Alice thought while caressing her chin and looking at the map.
While the Gryffin Kingdom might house the most instances of the Demon King’s Power’s aura, three of those auras were closely tied to her, so Alice could simply ignore them. Moreover, Alice knew that these 17 auras she detected didn’t represent all of the individuals and objects that carried the Demon King’s Power’s aura.
If a former Demon King’s soul remained in this world, the soul would only radiate mana if it had found a suitable body or a medium like the Living Wood. In other words, the dogkins’ chief totem could only detect the presence of items made using the Demon King’s Power’s essence, former Demon Kings who had found a suitable medium or body for their souls, and the Demon King’s Power. It couldn’t detect former Demon Kings whose souls did not carry any mana. For example, even if Grant were still alive, the dogkins’ chief totem wouldn’t have detected his presence.
Regardless, since there were only eight presences in the human realm, the remaining nine presences were in the demon realm.
This wasn’t particularly strange since these presences belonged to items left behind by Demon Kings. It was completely understandable for some of these items to remain in the demon realm. However, the problem now was that Alice didn’t have a map of the demon realm on her. So, she couldn’t figure out the exact location of these presences.
The mana the chief totem granted her couldn’t last forever. In fact, Alice could feel her perception of the auras growing weaker by the second. At this rate, it would take only an hour before these auras vanished from her perception.
However, Alice wasn’t an inflexible fool. She quickly thought of a solution as she grabbed her phone with her right hand. Then, using the phone’s additional ability granted by her right hand, she gained access to the demon realm’s internet.
Mobile phones really are a wonderful invention.
While praising the invention of mobile phones, Alice downloaded a map application via the demon realm’s internet. Although she couldn’t get an intuitive view of the demon realm’s map since she couldn’t spread it out like a physical map, she could still more or less use it to locate the nine other presences.
Quickly, Alice recorded the locations of the nine presences on her phone. These presences were most likely items created using the Demon King’s Power’s essence. So, Alice felt that there was a need for her to collect them all.
After Alice recorded the locations, she began cross-referencing the locations in her mind with the locations marked on the maps.
She couldn’t afford any mistakes. According to the Demon King’s Power’s past options, it would typically choose its host from the human realm. Hence, one of the five remaining locations in the human realm might very well be the Demon King’s Power’s hiding place.
However, once Alice began her cross-referencing, she couldn’t help but frown as she discovered a problem—two of the auras she previously marked on the map of the human realm had moved.
The auras in the Ymir Kingdom and the Rhine Kingdom have clearly changed locations.
Alice thought, furrowing her brows. She had used Psychokinesis Transcendence to assist her when marking the presences to increase her accuracy. While she still couldn’t pinpoint these presences, she could narrow her search radius to within the size of a city. So, she could tell that the auras in the Ymir Kingdom and the Rhine Kingdom had moved. Moreover, they had moved at least half a city away from their previous location.
This was half a city they were talking about. It had only been several minutes since she marked the locations of those presences. This meant that the “Demon King’s Power” in these two locations was moving at high speeds, and there were only two explanations for this situation.
The first possibility was that these two auras belonged to items left behind by former Demon Kings, and someone was currently carrying them and moving around at high speeds. Either that or they were moving in a vehicle.
The second possibility was that these auras belonged to resurrected or partially resurrected Demon Kings like Andusia, and these Demon Kings were currently hiding in the human realm doing who knows what. Out of these two possibilities, the second one was definitely bad news.
