The Surgeon's Studio - Chapter 514
Chapter 514: Please Do Me A Favor
Zheng Ren and the others gossiped about all kinds of BT reactions they had seen and heard about.
When it was noon, Chang Yue and the others went to the cafeteria for lunch, while Zheng Ren went without them to the CT room to do the 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction.
These sorts of things involved forming interpersonal relationships as they were necessary for a person to grow.
Although Zheng Ren was helpless, he still braced himself and took Li Chen to the CT room with him.
Li Chen’s mood seemed fine, but Zheng Ren knew that this patient was already scared silly.
No matter which hospital he went to, the doctor said that his condition was very serious and that he had to be hospitalized for treatment, implying that there was still a glimmer of hope.
However, the Secondary Hospital refused to accept Li Chen, completely dumbfounding him.
Anyone with a shred of intelligence would naturally assume that their actions meant his illness was practically incurable.
However, there was nothing wrong with his body and yet, the doctor was telling him that his illness was incurable…
Li Chen was probably scared to death by now. If his heart disease continued to be left untreated, he would just live in constant fear.
As they walked, Zheng Ren broke the silence.
“Old Li, are you very scared?” Zheng Ren asked him bluntly.
Li Chen was stunned for a moment but forced himself to say, “I’m fine. If I die then so be it. What person does not end up dying in the end? It’s just a matter of whether you live more or fewer years compared to everyone else.”
Zheng Ren smiled. Just as he was about to speak, Li Chen continued.
“Chief Zheng, it’s just that I have some regrets. My son is a senior this year and his academic results have been pretty good. After graduation, he can stay in a big company in Pengcheng,” Li Chen complained. Thinking about his son seemed like the only way to ease the fear in his heart.
“Mm, you want to try your best to live until he graduates, right?” Zheng Ren asked honestly.
For a patient like Li Chen who already knew the truth, hiding the truth would simply make things worse.
If he lied, it would just cast further doubt over the other party and trouble them.
Li Chen nodded and looked at Zheng Ren with a complicated expression.
“Chief Zheng, there’s still half a year…”
“Old Li, I’ll take you to do the 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction later,” Zheng Ren said. “In addition, I’ll also need you to do another type of scan afterward.”
Li Chen did not know what Zheng Ren meant, so he silently followed beside him.
“Previously, the first time I ever did a 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction was for a female patient who was about to jump off a building when I first met her,” Zheng Ren said. “Her condition is very similar to yours. After the surgery, she relapsed. There are no more medications or treatments out there that can help her anymore.”
Li Chen was silent.
“After three surgeries, the patient had recovered temporarily. Yes, it was only temporary. I believe you know why I’m telling you this,” Zheng Ren said casually. “Old Li, it’s not that your illness can’t be treated, but what I need to know is whether you’ll cooperate with me.”
Hearing Zheng Ren’s affirmation, Li Chen’s heart lit up with hope.
“Chief… Chief Zheng, can it really… Can it really be cured?” Li Chen stammered in excitement.
“The last patient’s recovery was temporary.” Zheng Ren smiled before he continued, “You still need to go through one or two more interventional surgeries to monitor your condition. The same types of treatments do not always work for everyone. This has to do with the state of their body.”
Li Chen nodded repeatedly. What Zheng Ren said was not serious, but it was the truth.
However, the more he told him this stuff, the more he could gain the patient’s trust.
Li Chen’s wife followed him by his side. With tears in her eyes, she lowered her head in silence.
They soon arrived at the CT room.
Zheng Ren arrived a few minutes earlier. It was a small matter for them to wait for Sister Zhao, but it would not be sensible for Sister Zhao to wait for him.
Coincidentally after the last patient’s CT was done, Sister Zhao exchanged a few words with the patient before they left.
“Sister Zhao, sorry to trouble you again.” Zheng Ren walked up to her with a smile.
“Chief Zheng, you seem to be getting busier by the day.” Sister Zhao did not really care. She smiled and joked, “I think you can just take on the role of Department Chief for the interventional medicine department in the future. Once you become an associate chief physician, you can just oversee the whole department.”
“I’m not good enough for that,” Zheng Ren smiled and cornered Sister Zhao into the room. His dominant hand that was in the pocket of his white coat went and took the gas card in his pocket, sliding it into Sister Zhao’s own coat without a hint of displeasure.
“What are you doing!” Sister Zhao was a little unhappy.
“Sister, I’m always troubling you and feel bad. This is from the patient. I don’t have a car so this would be a waste on me,” Zheng Ren lied. “The money isn’t much. It’s just a small gift. The patient’s outside. Let’s not argue with each other about this. It’s not good if the patient notices.”
Sister Zhao could understand Zheng Ren’s point. It was not much money, so she decided to accept it
In the hospital, people would always ask each other for help. If they could not repay the favor through other means, they would give the other a red packet. This kind of red packet was usually not given by the patient, but by the doctor or nurse they were familiar with.
The CT department did not receive many red packets, but they were still a thing once in a while.
Sister Zhao smiled and said, “I happen to have something to talk to you about but since you’re being so nice to me, I don’t know how to bring it up with you.”
Zheng Ren looked at the time and smiled apologetically. “Sister Zhao, I’ll do the CT scan while we talk.”
Sister Zhao was not in a hurry. She called Li Chen into the CT room. After the patient was lying down, Zheng Ren began to operate the machine.
Every time Sister Zhao saw Zheng Ren operate the machine, she would be in a daze.
She was a smart worker and was usually very hardworking. Compared to Zheng Ren, however, there was a huge difference. How did Chief Zheng of the emergency department learn to operate the machine to this level?
“Chief Zheng, my old neighbor has recently been diagnosed with liver cancer.” Zheng Ren was operating the machine as Sister Zhao sat by the side and continued, “The last time I saw you, there was a chief from the First Affiliated Hospital of Provincial Capital Medical University beside you. Is that true?”
“Yes. That was Professor Gao Shaojie from the Department of Interventional Medicine from the medical university itself,” Zheng Ren said.
“What is he doing here?”
“He’s studying TIPS surgery. He just happened to be curious about the 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction and came along to take a look.” Zheng Ren finished the CT scan for Li Chen very quickly.
The 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction was almost done, plus the examination itself would not consume that much time.
Sister Zhao was not in a hurry either. She asked this question as if they were just two friends having a casual conversation.
After Li Chen finished with his CT scan, Zheng Ren chased him away. He had not eaten all morning. If he did not eat at noon, Zheng Ren was afraid he would have low blood sugar.
Zheng Ren had long forgotten about the fact that he himself had not eaten lunch yet.
After the patient left, the CT room became quiet.
Zheng Ren began to do the 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction.
“The growth and progress of young people are always so quick. Us old people envy you.” Sister Zhao sighed.
“It’s not like that. It’s just a coincidence,” Zheng Ren smiled subconsciously. His APM was over 400 as he controlled the machine to complete the 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction.
Sister Zhao did not dare look at the screen. She had been dizzy for about three to five hours the last time she had done so.
However, from the roar of Siemens’ machine, one could hear from the CPU itself that the machine was being operated at such a high speed, it was even starting to reach the limits of its maximum capacity.
“Chief Zheng, if you’re familiar with Teacher Gao, could you please contact him for me and see if he can reserve a bed for you in the near future? It would be best if the surgery could be done within the month too,” Sister Zhao said as she looked out of the window.
