The Sacred Ruins Novel - Chapter 347
Chapter 347: The Mysterious Whelp
Translator: Alsey Editor: Chrissy
The thorns began to glow—some silver, some faint golden. The vegetation here was quite special. There were dense energy fluctuations coming from them.
Even the rocks and earth were in the state. They were flowing with a rosy glow and full of spirituality.
Chu Feng was extremely cautious as he unraveled the domain. After opening it, he found that there was only silence inside. It seemed the creature had hidden itself.
Chu Feng’s own domain wasn’t a problem and there was no need to withdraw it. Its main function was to prevent the creature from escaping, but there were also other ancient domain runes here.
As he went deeper in, a hazy mist began to appear but the gentle glow didn’t fade in the slightest. The whole place was suffused with a light golden glow and even the springs and puddles were similarly bright and colorful.
Any ordinary person, upon witnessing this, would feel that this was an immortal residence.
That was because the energy here was extremely dense and contained vigorous amounts of vitality. Even breathing made him feel comfortable in body and spirit.
If an evolved being were to live here for an extended period of time, it would likely improve his constitution.
Apparently, the domains here weren’t enough to obstruct Chu Feng.
There were domains everywhere in the Pilgrimage Grounds but the truly frightening ones were inside the restricted areas. For instance, the one beyond the sacrificial altar was enveloped in golden radiance and bewildering mists.
Without a doubt, there were terrifying domains there that could blot out the sky and inevitably kill any trespassers.
The region in front of the altar was relatively much safer. Chu Feng had successfully brought the whole group to that place earlier on.
Crack!
Chu Feng carefully dug out a gem from the ground. The bright red gem was comparable to flowing blood and contained mysterious runes within.
“Good stuff!”
There were raw materials here left behind by the ancients who had constructed these domains. This gem was much more powerful compared to Chu Feng’s own magnetic stones.
Chu Feng began to collect raw materials after dissolving the domain and placed them all within the Pristine Jade Bottle.
Bang!
He succeeded in the end. He had completely dismantled the domains in the area and walked in.
He felt that this life-form shouldn’t be too terrifying. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be hiding here if it was strong enough and would’ve charged into the altar region.
After all, it was just a whelp. It just happened to be in its weakest phase. Once it matured, it would definitely become a demonic god!
Chu Feng’s own domain was left in place because he was worried the creature would run away.
After carefully probing around, he couldn’t help but frown. This place was neither big nor small—there was a brilliant silvery white stream with fish swimming about in its waters.
“There are creatures here!”
Chu Feng was astonished, but after focusing on them, he found that they were far from being at the level of a divine beast despite possessing a certain level of energy. They would, at most, make for delicious meals.
There were also fruit trees here with mutant fruits growing upon them. Some were bright red like agate, while others were faint yellow in color with fragrance which assaulted the senses. They were capable of making ordinary people evolve but not to the point of transforming into kings.
Such things were fortunes to ordinary people but they were merely fruit to Chu Feng.
In the past, he couldn’t eat these things but now it was no longer a problem with the little grinding stone around.
He naturally didn’t hold back and tossed everything into his bottle.
After a detailed search, he still hadn’t discovered the spiritual life form.
What was this situation? Had the whelp escaped?
“Eh?!” Finally, Chu Feng discovered some broken scales on a brown mountain rock.
Following which, he found carved words on a certain cliffside.
He tried hard to read them but found that he was actually unable to recognize them. They seemed both like bone inscriptions and cauldron inscriptions.
Chu Feng pondered repeatedly but couldn’t discern their meanings.
He was momentarily dumbfounded!
However, there were also diagrams drawn beside them. These drawings were rather crooked as if drawn by a little kid. Chu Feng began to understand only after a long period of observation.
He was incomparably disappointed.
The diagram on the stone cliff roughly meant that a young beast whelp was born and trapped within the Pilgrimage Grounds. In the end, it found a way to escape and thus left the place.
“It has long since escaped?!” Chu Feng gazed up at the sky. He was no longer drenched in black dog’s blood, so why did he have to be so unlucky?!
This was too disappointing. He had charged into this place in high spirits, hoping to capture the divine beast, but it had long since gone. How disappointing!
Chu Feng suddenly turned back and found a toad crawling out of the water with a fish in its mouth. It then hopped towards the thorny thicket.
It wasn’t small at all and should weight at least four or five kilograms. It possessed energy fluctuations and was stronger than the river fish, albeit by a small margin.
Chu Feng ignored it and proceeded to roam about the area at lightning speed, looking for more clues.
However, he was disappointed in the end for there weren’t any more clues at all.
After another round of observation, Chu Feng rushed towards the exit. There was nothing out of the ordinary here and no creature had broken through his domain.
He was suspicious because he finally saw that toad again.
He stared at it repeatedly, but the toad just sat there croaking occasionally. After eating the fish, its voice had grown somewhat deeper.
Following which, Chu Feng broke into laughter.
Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh…
He tossed out several magnetic stones without much care and surrounded the toad in a domain.
The shocked toad scuttled and hopped about in order to escape but was blocked by the domain.
“Don’t be afraid. I have no evil intentions. I just want to bring you away from this place.” Chu Feng forced a kind attitude as he walked over to talk with the toad.
However, the toad seemed dumb and unresponsive. It was simply too ordinary.
“You’re quite smart. You drew images beforehand, making people believe the divine beast whelp had already escaped. But I know you’re not that simple.” Chu Feng smiled.
But the toad still didn’t respond in the slightest. It only ran away when Chu Feng got too close just like any other animal would.
Chu Feng extended his hands to capture it.
Pfft!
The toad suddenly spat out a mouthful of liquid towards Chu Feng.
The latter swiftly evaded to one side and said, “Stop pretending. You’re the only toad here with none other from the same race. So, where did you come from?!”
Only at this time did the toad’s dull eyes move. It then opened its large mouth to shoot spit at Chu Feng frantically.
“Dammit!” Chu Feng evaded swiftly. This toad turned hostile too fast! Saliva fell like rain after it opened its mouth.
Chu Feng was almost drenched. Fortunately, he reacted quickly enough.
Ptooey! Ptooey! Ptooey!
Gales were kicked up and fluids splashed in all direction as the toad opened its mouth.
The change was simply too fast. A few moments back, it was completely dumb, but now it was spitting like crazy.
Furthermore, the scene was quite spectacular. It was like a downpour.
“Divine beast, you’re too disgusting. Can you not be like this? Stop spitting!” Chu Feng let out an odd cry.
Momentarily, he had no idea whether the fluid was poisonous or not. Thus, he could only evade.
No matter how one looked at it, it didn’t seem as if the animal was releasing poison. It really looked as if it was spitting continuously at Chu Feng.
“Damn your grandpa!”
Chu Feng felt that this was too odd. This toad was too outlandish!
After that, it began to formally run away. The simple domain formed with a few magnetic stones couldn’t bar its path. The earth cracked and the stones were smashed away.
Furthermore, its speed was too fast. It was like a tempest or a bolt of lightning.
What made Chu Feng feel messed up was that it actually wasn’t jumping and hopping but instead was crawling on the ground like a human on all fours.
Its four limbs moved at incredible speeds.
“What kind of toad is this?!” Chu Feng was dumbfounded as he gave chase.
This creature spat saliva, crawled on all fours, and adopted an odd posture. It was going down quite the abnormal path.
Bang! Bang! Bang…
At a distance, the toad was madly charging at the domain Chu Feng had placed outside. It wanted to charge out of this parameter but was obstructed here.
Chu Feng laughed loudly. He was now certain this toad was the so-called divine beast.
But it was simply too bizarre—where were the golden scales and feathers? He reckoned this toad wasn’t in its true form.
“Croak!”
Finally, the toad turned back and remitted a dull sound which shook Chu Feng’s spirit.
Apparently, this beast was quite extraordinary and possessed powerful spiritual energy. It was an outstanding king level entity.
At the same time, it questioned Chu Feng telepathically why he had moved against it without any prior enmity.
“Didn’t I tell you I have no evil intentions. I only wanted to be friends with you,” Chu Feng spoke.
The toad withdrew its aura. Its limpid eyes looked at Chu Feng innocently and asked him if he was speaking the truth.
“Of course!” Chu Feng smiled harmlessly and walked forth with a fruit in his hand.
He was, in every way, like a swindler trying to cheat a kid with a lollipop.
“Croak!”
As Chu Feng approached to hand him the mutant fruit, the toad erupted with golden light and charged at Chu Feng like a bolt of explosive heavenly lightning.
The most terrifying part was its spiritual energy. The croaking sound reverberated fiercely like lightning from the nine heavens to destroy Chu Feng’s spirit.
This was an extremely terrifying energy ripple—the mountainous rocks were shattered and pulverized, and the stream evaporated and turned to steam in the blink of an eye.
Even the ground sank and split open.
The toad was extremely powerful and almost wounded Chu Feng. It was acting so tender and naive just now but had launched such a tempestuous attack in the blink of an eye.
Additionally, it leapt up and struck out with its palms just like a human. It relentlessly attacked while glowing with electric radiance.
Chu Feng met its palms head-on with an astonished expression. The toad’s palm strikes contained tremendous power and contained astonishing levels of energy!
“Croak, croak, croak!”
Its body grew larger and stood up to reach the same height as Chu Feng. Additionally, it continuously bombarded Chu Feng with its fists. As if it were pulling out dried weeds, the gigantic rocks in the vicinity were decimated and the cliffs were broken.
Momentarily, it seemed to possess the might of lightning itself as it clashed with Chu Feng.
The toad, bathed in golden radiance, was incomparably strange. It was a like a martial arts expert as it struck out continuously with its palms, comparable to Ouyang Feng’s legendary Toad Art.
Additionally, its current demeanor was solemn and dignified with golden lights erupting from its body. It was engaging in a life-or-death battle with Chu Feng.
Chu Feng was astonished at this evil toad. It resembled a kung-fu master even more than humans. It stood straight with its hind legs on the ground, while its forelimbs danced through the air, throwing palm images amidst the flourishing golden glow.
The toad with its solemn temperament suddenly approached Chu Feng face to face and spat out a large mouthful of saliva.
“Ptooey!”
“F*ck $!*#@!#*”
Chu Feng evaded by shifting his head to one side. He had never experienced something like this—spitting during a contest of power between experts.
He finally confirmed that it was pure spit and not poison. This toad was simply too wretched. It was doing it deliberately.
“Ptooey!”
As expected, it would spit whenever they were close enough.
“What kind of divine beast are you. Reveal your true form at once, goddammit. You are so disgusting! Spit one more time and I’ll roast you alive!”
Chu Feng threatened.
Bang!
The toad’s spit possessed astonishing penetrative powers and could be considered one of its attack methods. It actually tore the cliffside into several pieces.
Very soon, Chu Feng’s face became dark because it was raining spit once again.
Thump! Thump! Thump…
He delivered continuous attacks, hoping to suppress this gigantic toad!
“Reveal your true form now!”
“You illiterate, it’s beneath me to talk with you. You can’t even read the words I wrote,” finally, the toad spoke telepathically. It was looking down on Chu Feng.
Chu Feng’s thoughts were in chaos.
“Who’ll recognize those bone inscriptions?! I’m definitely going to beat you to death today!” Chu Feng was furious.
“Bah! Illiterate!” The toad spat out and continued fighting.
One had to admit this toad was indeed mighty. Chu Feng had to use up all his strength in order to finally suppress it.
