“Stop it!” The door to the bar swung open all of a sudden with people shouting, as Percy Santiago was just about to give Ryan a good kick. A group of four or five people stormed in. The leading guy was a young man in a black suit.
Percy’s motion froze abruptly when he saw that young guy. He put up a smile. “Why are you here, John? I’m having some internal affairs to deal with here. You shouldn’t intervene.”
The young man’s name was John Valdez, one of Preston Parker’s most powerful underlings.
John snorted and took two steps forward, glaring at Percy. “So what if I intervene in your affairs? Do you know who he is?” He pointed at Ryan, who was eating fruits on the sofa.
Percy had got a bad feeling, but he still put up a brave face. “Who else can he be other than the loser son-in-law of the Mears family. This guy is just a retard. You know him, John?”
John let out a sigh of helplessness and bowed slightly at Ryan. “H-H-He is your new boss.”
‘Huh?’
Everyone was stunned, looking at John as if he was some monster.
“Did you make a mistake, John? Ryan is just a loser son-in-law. It costs at least several hundred million to buy the Royal Bar. How could he afford it?” Percy wiped the sweat from his forehead as he spoke.
As Preston Parker’s powerful right-hand man, John rarely attended to trivial matters personally. Besides, he did not look like he was joking here.
“Do you think I am so free here to joke with you, Percy? See clearly what this is!” John opened his briefcase and shoved a stack of documents into Percy’s arms.
Percy looked at the documents in puzzlement. It was an ownership transfer agreement with Ryan’s name in the transferee column.
‘So Ryan is the new boss?’
He had insulted Ryan yesterday and today. Not only that, he was thinking of kicking Ryan just now.
Percy went weak at his knees all of a sudden, spontaneously kneeling down. “I was wrong, Mr. Fletcher. I didn’t know you are the boss.”
He wished he could die now.
‘Darn it.’
Who could have thought that a little waitstaff could turn into the boss of a bar?
Ryan, who was sitting on the sofa, clapped his hands as he stared at Percy with a faint smile. “Tell me then, Percy, am I qualified to sit here now?”
Percy quickly nodded his head like a pigeon. “Of course! Of course! Mr. Fletcher. I was wrong. I was blind.”
While Percy was still kneeling on the floor, he opened his arms and began to slap himself in the face, one side at a time. Those slaps actually hurt as his face started to swell.
Those hundreds of employees standing below could feel the pain while Percy was slapping himself, as if those slaps were hitting on their faces.
John walked up to Ryan with respect. “Our boss’ car is right outside, Mr. Fletcher. He did not come in for fear of attracting too much attention. So he instructed me to come in. Should I inform the boss to come in, Mr. Fletcher?”
“No. This is just fine.” Ryan held up a hand.
John nodded and then glanced at the hundreds of employees in the lobby. “What are you all waiting for? Shouldn’t you all greet your boss now?”
“We are proud to have you with us, Boss!” Those employees said in unison, spontaneously bent over and bowed ninety degrees.
News of what Ryan did had spread in the bar yesterday.
All waitstaff of the Royal Bar, and even the security guards, secretly admired Ryan for his courage to beat the hell out of Lionel Ball to protect his wife.
Not only that, a big shot like Preston Parker had openly supported Ryan, saving him yesterday. And today, Preston sent his right-hand man to deliver the contract.
This made Ryan’s background become a little interesting.
It seemed that Ryan was having the support of not only Mears Corporation but also Preston Parker, one of the two overlords of Saltband City. By the looks of things, there was an inextricable relationship between Ryan and Preston.
“Alright, everyone. We are all acquaintances. Be at ease. Just do your jobs. Everything here will be the same as previously.” After the pleasantry, Ryan continued. “All I have today is because of Mr. Parker. I am just helping him take care of his business. Right?”
As he spoke, he turned to look at John.
“Huh?” John was struck dumb. He did not know the true background of Ryan. But even his boss said he was not fit to carry Ryan’s shoes. From this alone, he could imagine how important Ryan was. Yet Ryan was so low-key. “Yeah. This is what my boss means. Please work closely with Mr. Fletcher from now on.”
Ryan waved his hand at him when John finished speaking. “I know you are a busy man. If there is nothing else, I will leave you to it, John.”
“OK, Mr. Fletcher.”
John turned around and left the bar lobby with his men. After John left, Ryan turned to look at Percy, who was still kneeling on the floor. “You may get up now, Mr. Santiago.”
Percy was mean, but he had been managing the bar well. Especially in a place like Saltband City where different forces were at play, Percy had shown his capability in maintaining a relationship with these different forces.
Ryan did not intend to make Percy his enemy, since Percy had apologized.
Percy secretly breathed a sigh of relief and got to his feet with respect upon hearing what Ryan said. “Thank you, Mr. Fletcher. I will be loyal to you and you alone.”
Ryan nodded. He then glanced at the others and frowned when he did not see Carmen, the general manager. “Where is Carmen, Percy? I didn’t see her around.”
Percy was the lobby manager of Royal Bar, in charge of external affairs, considered the second in command around here.
On the other hand, Carmen was the head of the bar’s internal affairs, the general manager, the first in command under the boss.
“Mr. Fletcher, Carmen called to inform that she had something going on at home, and she wouldn’t be here until later in the evening. So I will host the welcome ceremony on his behalf,” Percy said as he tried to butter up Ryan.
People working in the bar knew how close Carmen and Ryan were.
When Ryan was expelled by Percy yesterday, Carmen was furious and berated Percy after she learned about it.
‘What happened to Carmen’s family?’
Ryan frowned and said nothing. Just then, a woman rushed through the bar entrance. She was beautiful, wearing a purple short dress, her fair collarbone clearly visible under her V-neck dress, while her hair was tied up in a bun behind her head.
The woman was in her 30s, exuding the unique charm of a mature woman. She was none other than Carmen. There was a hint of pleasant surprise on her face when she saw Ryan. “You are back, Ryan? Did this scoundrel Percy bully you? I was just thinking of calling you.”
There was a strange look on everyone’s face as soon as Carmen’s voice trailed off.
‘How dare Percy bully Ryan now? He must be crazy if he did. Ryan is the boss of the bar now.’
But for some reason, Carmen still did not know that Ryan was the new boss, and she was worried about him.
