Chapter 522: Looking For The Driver

Li Nanli looked at Fu Zhi speechlessly as he did not know what he should be saying. He had a hunch that Fu Zhi did not get what he was talking about. However, it did not matter. He had a lot of time to teach her.

With that thought in mind, he cupped Fu Zhi’s hand in his gently. With a smile, he said, “Yeah, but don’t worry. I will guide you in the future.”

“Huh?” Fu Zhi raised her head.

Under the light, her eyes were bright and her eyelashes were long. When she lifted her head to look at him, she was blinking her eyes and he had a feeling that he might not be able to keep the monster inside of him in check any longer.

He took a few deep breaths to press down the bolt of heat that was wreaking havoc in his body and said, “I said, I will teach you in the future.”

Fu Zhi had no idea why but she felt that Li Nanli liked to be around her, as he was always smiling whenever he was talking to her.

Just when she was about to say something, Liu Mi knocked on the door.

Li Nanli pressed his lips and his smile disappeared.

“President Li,” Liu Mi opened the door and greeted. “It’s time to change your dressing. Besides, there is a cardiac monitor in the inner sanctum, so we need you to come with us.”

After that, he turned around and smiled at Fu Zhi.

The distance from the bedroom to the inner sanctum was about a dozen meters. It was not very far away and it was nothing for Li Nanli in the past, but things were different now.

After all, he had just escaped death.

The inner sanctum was a large room equivalent to a miniature sterile operating room. The family doctor of the Li Family was now standing outside of the inner sanctum. He was holding a tray consisting of different medicine and he was wearing a pair of disposable gloves on his hands.

Li Nanli lifted the blanket and released Fu Zhi’s hand.

Fu Zhi had no idea why but she suddenly felt a cold sensation on her hand.

Just when she moved to one side, her phone began to ring. Li Nanli glanced at it and realized it was a call from Lu Yumo. Lu Yumo would call Fu Zhi every night whenever she was outside to check on her.

Just when Fu Zhi took the phone up and was about to answer the call, Li Nanli lifted his brows and called out to her, “Zhizhi.”

Fu Zhi was stunned and she turned around to look at him.

“Can you help me?”

“Hold on a second,” Fu Zhi said, “I need to answer my brother’s call.”

The moment she finished speaking, he suddenly lifted his hand to his mouth and dissolved into a violent spell of cough.

The family doctor was startled. He wanted to rush into the room, but Liu Mi stopped him.

Trying his best to push Liu Mi out of his way, the doctor shouted, “Mr. Liu, what are you doing? I have to take a look at President Li!”

‘Can’t you see that he’s in pain right now?’

Liu Mi then replied indifferently, “He’ll be fine. Go back and wait inside the inner sanctum.”

The family doctor was stunned.

“How is there any possibility that he’s fine? Look at him! He’s coughing and panting! If I don’t go in and take a look at him now, he will be in danger!”

Liu Mi glanced at Fu Zhi, who was equally shocked, before turning to the doctor and said, “President Li knows what he’s doing. You don’t have to worry about him.”

The doctor was even more confused.

Inside the room, Fu Zhi did not know what happened to Li Nanli as well. She put her phone aside and hurriedly went to fetch a cup of warm water for him. Then, when she was about to grab his wrist to feel his pulses, he pushed her hand away and said, “I’m fine.”

Then, he lifted his head up, offering her a weak smile before continuing, “Aren’t you going to answer your brother’s call? Go ahead. You don’t have to care about me.”

Fu Zhi looked at him and she had to admit that he was really good-looking. The hand that he put in front of his mouth was fair and beautiful. She set her jaw tight and fell into silence.

Her phone was still ringing, and it seemed like Lu Yumo would not end the call until she answered the phone.

After what seemed like an eternity, Fu Zhi made up her mind and said, shattering the silence, “Let me bring you to change your dressing.”

She then put her phone on the desk and asked, “Do you want some more warm water?”

“I’m good.”

A smile crossed Li Nanli’s eyes. He let out a few more coughs before saying, “It’s okay. It’s just a cough. It’s not like it’s going to kill me or whatsoever. You should go and answer your brother’s call. Don’t make him worried about you.”

Liu Mi did not know what to say. As Li Nanli’s secretary, although he knew that Li Nanli had been someone who would do everything to achieve his goal, this was on another whole new level.

Fu Zhi had a feeling that Li Nanli had some misunderstanding about Lu Yumo. “Don’t worry. He would be fine. I’m sure he will give up soon.”

Meanwhile, Lu Yumo, who was sitting on top of a tree in the winter night to get a better phone signal, wondered why Fu Zhi was not answering his call.

Did she not know how much blood and tears he had paid in order to maintain their difficult brother-sister relationship? He was freezing to death out here and she still refused to accept his call!

He then sent a message to Fu Zhi, [Why are you not replying to my message or answering my call? Have you forgotten about your brother already?

[Hello? Are you there? Has the cat got your tongue? Why don’t you say something?

You don’t know how I look when I’m very sleepy yet I still hold on to you and say I’ll sleep after you sleep, and you definitely don’t know how anxious I look when I’m holding my phone and waiting for you to come back to me every day. You’ve never seen any of it before! You’re so heartless!!!]

Her phone kept ringing and Fu Zhi noticed it. Had it not been for the situation not permitting her to reach her phone right now, she would have replied to Lu Yumo, telling him that she had never seen it because he had never done it before!

Liu Mi then handed a roll of gauze that he got from the doctor to Fu Zhi and said, “We will leave President Li in your care, then, Ms. Fu.”

“I’m going to do it alone?” Fu Zhi asked.

“If you don’t feel comfortable doing it,” Li Nanli added, “It’s fine with me. I can do it myself.”

“Okay,” Fu Zhi replied, “Help yourself, then.”

Li Nanli was stumped.

‘That’s it? That’s what she’s gonna say?’

Li Nanli pressed his lips thin.

Liu Mi was dumbfounded as well. It took him quite a long while to find his voice back and said, “Erm, why not you help him, Ms. Fu? I don’t think President Li can change the dressing himself.”

‘Maybe you should view him as a disabled person now, or maybe a giant baby who needs to be taken care of?’Liu Mi thought inwardly, but he did not say it out aloud.

Li Nanli put his hand to his mouth and let out a few coughs again. Fu Zhi had no other choice but to take the medicine from the doctor.

Then, she went near him and began undoing the buttons on his shirt.

Since he persisted in physical training all year round, his body was covered in lean muscles. When she got near him, she was welcomed by a waft of mint fragrance and she could sense his sharp gaze boring into her. However, since she had to remove the gauze around his chest, she had no other choice but to go even closer to him, and from the sideline, it looked just like he was holding her in his arms.

When her finger accidentally grazed his back, Fu Zhi froze and her face turned slightly red. Li Nanli looked down at her.

The face of the girl in front of him was fair-complexioned with a tinge of pink. Her eyes were pretty and her eyelashes were long. When he looked further down, he would see her perfectly shaped collarbones and a red mole. Due to the fairness of her skin, her veins were visible to the naked eyes, and Li Nanli felt a strong bolt of heat rushing up and down in his body.

He put his arm around her waist and there was a strong desire in his eyes.

Fu Zhi felt even more uncomfortable and she could not view him as a patient anymore.

“Hands,” Fu Zhi commanded, “Raise your hands, please?”

Li Nanli’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down in his throat. He felt hot despite the cold weather. It took him a lot of effort to peel his gaze away from the girl. He raised his arms and focused on the cup of water not far away.

‘This is torture.’

The silver lining was that Fu Zhi soon finished changing his dressing soon after. She hastily pulled herself away from him and took her phone up.

“My shirt is dirty,” Li Nanli said as he tapped at the stain on his shirt.

Liu Mi understood instantly. “I will go get you a new one.”

Li Nanli nodded and just when he was about to take his shirt off, Fu Zhi took a look at her watch and said, “It’s getting late. I have to go home.”

The susurration of clothes against skin rang out in her ears and the entire room was filled with the fragrance of mint.

Fu Zhi pulled the door open, and without waiting for Li Nanli to say anything, she took a step out of the room. It was just that before she closed the door, she raised her head and peeped into the room through a tiny slit between the door and the frame. She traced her eyes along the man’s shapely collarbones and…

“Baam!”

The door was slammed shut.

Li Nanli chuckled as a hint of amusement crossed his eyes.

“Liar.”

He rested his hand on the side of the pillow and tapped his fingertips on the edge of the bed in boredom.

And she still said she loved him and would treat him nicely? She ran faster than anyone when he was taking off his clothes.

Liu Mi took a step back as he wanted to take Li Nanli to the inner sanctum to do an electrocardiogram. However, the moment he walked closer to him, Li Nanli suddenly bent over and his face turned ghastly pale.

“Dr. Shao!” He shouted.

No sooner had he shouted than Dr. Shao went into the room. When he saw Li Nanli’s complexion, his heart nearly stopped and he hastily said, “President Li, give me your hand. I need to feel your pulses.”

Li Nanli stretched his arm out.

Although Dr. Shao was the Li Family’s family doctor, he was pretty capable. After he took Li Nanli’s pulse, he ran a thorough check on him and said, “It’s not a serious problem. It’s a normal reaction since President Li damaged his heart and he moved too much just now. He just needs to take a good rest and he will be fine.”

Liu Mi nodded and he understood everything. It turned out that Li Nanli was acting to be fine just now as he did not want Fu Zhi to worry too much about him.

Dr. Shao then put the medicine that Fu Zhi gave him on Li Nanli’s hand. After Li Nanli had taken the medicine, Liu Mi stepped forward and said, “President Li, the International Crime Unit has sent an encrypted file to you. They want you to help them recover a video.”

Li Nanli nodded. Liu Mi then took the laptop that Fu Zhi put on the desk to Li Nanli.

Li Nanli turned the laptop on and he saw there was a new document file on the desktop. He remembered that Fu Zhi was using his laptop just now, so he did not think too much about it.

Dr. Shao had already retreated from the room. Li Nanli took a glance at Liu Mi and commanded, “Go get Gu Yanqi for me.”

Liu Mi nodded and went to do his bidding.

Afterward, Li Nanli went through a series of biometric recognition, turned off the camera, and entered the meeting room of the International Crime Unit.

Seven chat boxes appeared on the screen, and the seven captains of the International Crime Unit entered the meeting one after another.

“Regarding the silver sports car that appeared on Mount Qiu Ling in Myanmar, we’re unable to get a clear view of the driver because the surveillance video was destroyed. However, according to our initial investigation, the sports car is produced by the Fu Corporation,” the captain of the 2nd division said.

“Now, there are two ways if we want to know who the driver is. The first one is we can hack into the Fu Corporation’s mainframe directly and get the information of the driver. In this way, we will be able to verify whether the owner of the car is the driver that appeared on Mount Qiu Ling. The second way is to recover the destroyed surveillance video. Then, we can zoom into the video and ask a painter to draw the driver’s face and put it in the database of the International Crime Unit to verify the driver’s real identity.”

The captain of the 3rd division frowned. “Your suggestions are good, but don’t you think it will affect our relationship with the Fu Corporation if they find out that we’re the one who hacks into their database?”

“I don’t think they will notice if we’re careful enough.”

Since the captains of the 4th and 5th divisions saw with their own eyes how good the driving skills of the driver was, they chimed in and said, “If we’re not mistaken, the driver is likely to be a hacker as well, and it’d be great if we can scout him.”

Most of them felt it was a fair trade to offend the Fu Corporation in exchange for a bigshot. When the worst came to worst, they could just pretend that it was not them if the Fu Corporation realized something.

“Thud!”

A loud noise came and everyone was pulled back from their thoughts.

The captain of the 2nd division frowned and said, “Do you have any problem with my arrangement, captain of the 6th division?”

“Well,” Jiang Ningbei touched his nose. “Let’s not jump the gun first. I’m worried that the Fu Corporation might not be happy about it when they find out what we’ve done behind their back…”

“There is nothing to be worried about. Besides, Matthew and Anmisu are both outlaws that need to be taken care of as soon as possible. I’m sure the Fu Corporation will understand.”
