Yang Guang was completely excited as he kept digging Tianma out of the ground one after another. Each of them could land him a lot of money.
Even though it wasn’t enough to make $4,000, this was more than he could bargain for.
The young man was not a greedy person. If he could sell these for around $3,000 to $4,000, then it would mean that he was one step closer to his $10,000 target.
Being joyful brought him even more enthusiasm. It only took him half an hour to fill his basket with the Tianma.
When he turned around, he noticed that Wu Xiaolian was staring at him. “What’s wrong?” he asked.
“N-nothing.” Wu Xiaolian quickly diverted her gaze to something else while looking nervous.
Yang Guang shrugged and looked at his basket. “There should be around eight to ten pounds here. There’s no way we have the time to try them. I’ll see if I can sell them fresh at the town market tomorrow.”
“How much can we get from these?”
“$2,000 at the most but we are more likely to get around $1,400 to $1,600.” Yang Guang smiled.
“That’s already a lot!” Wu Xiaolian gasped as her eyes widened. “Guang! You are amazing! You actually made that much money in just two days!”
As Yang Guang didn’t want to tell Wu Xiaolian about the Method of Divine Farmer yet, he quickly made up an excuse. “Maybe God is taking pity on us for living such a hard life and is now blessing us.”
He was just joking but Wu Xiaolian bought it and sighed. “You’re right. I hope that God can continue to bless so that we don’t have to live such a hard life anymore…”
“Don’t worry.” Yang Guang’s heart broke when he saw how sad Wu Xiaolian was. “Our lives will get better. Trust me!”
“Yeah…” Wu Xiaolian nodded and struggled to get up. “It’s already quite late. Let’s head back.”
“Okay!” Yang Guang carried the basket on his back and approached her. “How are you feeling? Can you walk?”
“I’m fine. It still hurts a little but I can walk. Don’t worry.” Wu Xiaolian forced a smile while enduring the pain in her inner thigh.
Yang Guang felt relieved after making sure that she really could walk on her own. As they traveled back to their village, he said, “I’ll come back tomorrow to gather more Tianma. Perhaps I’ll find something else that’s worth even more!”
“Thank you. Actually, I have around $500 saved up. Why don’t you use that as well?” Wu Xiaolian asked.
Yang Guang was stunned for a second before shaking his head. “No! That won’t do! You can keep the money. Just let me handle all the finances from now on!”
It was Wu Xiaolian’s time to pause for a second. A genuine smile then appeared on her face and she said, “Guang, you really have grown up.”
“What are you talking about? I’m the only man left in our family. It’s about time I start to shoulder the responsibility!” Yang Guang laughed.
The two of them continued their conversation and soon arrived back at their village.
It was mid-noon and the women were resting under a huge tree as always. When they noticed Yang Guang and Wu Xiaolian coming back, they stopped their chit-chat and turned to look at the young man and lady.
When Yang Guang got closer to them, Mrs. Niu asked, “Guang, did you find any bracket fungi again today?”
“No. But we didn’t come back empty-handed either,” Yang Guang replied with a grin.
Seeing how heavy the basket behind the young man was, Mrs. Niu got curious. She got up to take a look at its contents. “Let’s see what you found today.”
However, when she saw that the things inside the basket were round and covered in dirt like potatoes, she couldn’t help but laugh. “Guang, have you gone insane? Are you trying to earn a lot of money with a basket of potatoes?”
The other women got curious and gathered around. When they finally saw what was in the basket, they were stunned as well.
Knowing that the women could not recognize Tianma, Yang Guang didn’t pay much attention to them and smiled. “Well, whatever they are, I assure you they can fetch a good price.”
“Drop your act! Who would believe that?” Mrs. Niu mocked.
“Whatever,” Yang Guang sighed. “You’ll believe me once I sell them.”
He then returned home with Wu Xiaolian, leaving the women utterly confused.
Mrs. Niu watched Yang Guang leave and turned to ask He Hua, “Those are potatoes, right?”
“Looks like it. But they do smell like medicinal herbs. I’m not sure if they are potatoes.” He Hua shook her head.
“That kid, he was already lucky enough to find the bracket fungus yesterday, and today he came back with a basket full of things that we’ve never seen before? Since when did our mountain have so many good medicinal herbs?” Mrs. Niu asked and a thought suddenly came to her mind. “Hey, ladies, why don’t we head into the mountain later? Maybe we can find something expensive too?”
“Sure thing! Let’s go!” the women all agreed.
He Hua was the only one who shook her head. “I can’t go. I have to go to town to buy something later.”
“Suit yourself,” Mrs. Niu said, not forcing He Hua to join them. “But don’t cry when we find something good!”
“I won’t.” He Hua smiled.
The women headed into the mountain as soon as they finished their lunch. At the same time, Yang Guang walked out of his house with the basket full of Tianma on his back.
Even though the basket weighed around 10 pounds, he didn’t feel exhausted at all. As he walked, he felt so light that he wished he had a pair of wings so that he could fly to town.
Not long after he walked out of the village, he heard something approach him. He turned around to see He Hua on her electric scooter.
“Hua, where are you going?” he asked.
“I’m going to my cousin’s house in town. Are you heading there too?” He Hua stopped her scooter and asked with a smile.
“What a coincidence! I’m heading to Mr. Chen’s place as well! Maybe he’ll buy these off me.”
He Hua’s curiosity was piqued again as she looked at the young man’s basket. “Tell me, exactly what are those things in your basket?”
“Tianma. They are expensive medicinal herbs. Since Mrs. Niu had never heard about them before, there was no point in explaining it to her,” Yang Guang laughed.
He Hua nodded and gently tapped her scooter. “It’s still quite far from town. Do you want me to give you a ride?”
“That would be great!” Yang Guang exclaimed but hesitated when he looked at the small backseat. “But the backseat is a little small for me.”
He Hua rolled her eyes back and laughed, “Are you dumb? There’s no way a tall guy like you can fit there. You drive.”
“I’ll carry it for you!” He Hua said and took the basket from him.
“I’ll take you up on your offer then. Let me treat you to some food once we get back.” Yang Guang smiled.
He then sat on the scooter and waited for He Hua to sit down before turning the handle and they rode toward town.
However, after a few seconds, he could feel two tiny hands grabbing his shirt around his waist.. His heart immediately skipped a beat when he realized what was going on.
