The Ice-Cold Executive Gets A Wife Novel - Chapter 78
Chapter 78: It Was Not That Scary
Laura smiled and said, “So I’m just betting that my daughter can make Sebastian like her so much that he doesn’t mind that child.”
Carl said, “It’s too risky. I know men. Most men can’t accept that.”
“I know, but if I win the bet, my daughter won’t have to work hard as a single mother.”
Carl fell silent. After a long time, he compromised, “Alright, I won’t stop her from working on Wall Street.”
Even his father had agreed to let his sister go to another company to work, so David couldn’t say anything more. He helped his sister move the things into the trunk of the car. He muttered unhappily, “What’s wrong with Mom and Dad? Why are they all abandoning their previous decision? I thought they had agreed to stop Sophia from going far away to work?”
Sophia was afraid that her parents would suddenly change their minds. When she heard what her brother said, she immediately nudged him. She widened her eyes and said unhappily, “You’re overreacting! Mom and Dad’s decision is the best!”
David glanced at his sister and complained, “Isn’t it time to quarrel with Dad? You disagreed with
Dad during lunch, did you?”
Sophia’s temper had changed since she got pregnant, and she became increasingly spoiled in her family. From time to time, she would act shamelessly. “That disobedient me earlier is now a thing of the past. I’m now an obedient daughter.”
David felt at a loss for words. He only had one sister, so what else could he do? Pamper her.
“Yes, yes, you’re the most obedient daughter ever.”
The siblings conversation amused Laura. “How old are you two now? Still acting so childishly.”
David touched his nose in embarrassment after being lectured by his mother. Sophia, on the other hand, acted shamelessly cute to her mother.
Ever since Sophia was pregnant, the family rarely had such a harmonious atmosphere.
Although Laura supported her daughter in ‘pursuing true love’, she was still reluctant to let her daughter work so far away. “If only our home were closer to Wall Street.”
Sophia saw the tears in her mother’s eyes, so she comforted her, “It’s okay. It’s only an hour’s drive. Like when I went to uni, I’ll be back every week. And if you have time, you can visit me on Wall Street. It’s not that far.”
Laura patted her hand. “Have you found a place?”
“Not yet. I’ll stay at a hotel for a few nights, and then I’ll slowly look for a place while I work.”
“Do you have enough money? The hotels on Wall Street aren’t cheap. Do you need more money?”
Sophia felt helpless. “Mom, you’ve already given me a lot of money. It’s enough for me to survive on. ”
Her brother would also give her pocket money. She also knew that her father would occasionally transfer money to her through her brother’s bank card. As the daughter of this family, she didn’t have to worry about spending her parents’ and brother’s money.
But as a mother, she still wanted to earn money for her child.
After saying goodbye to her parents, David drove Sophia to Wall Street. He even helped his sister look for a hotel, choose the best room, and pay the bill for a few days.
When they checked in, the receptionist looked at them strangely.
But as a receptionist at a big hotel, she had a lot of experience and didn’t make a big deal out of small things.
Toward the evening, the siblings had another meal together. If Wall Street wasn’t so far from home, David might have waited until his sister fell asleep before returning home. After a long day, Sophia lay in bed, picked up her phone, and saw Anita’s text.
Anita wrote, “I’m so happy! I knew you could pass the interview at NRTE!”
Anita continued, “Unfortunately, I gave my spot in Sebastian’s company to Daisy, so I can’t work with you.”
In yet another text, Anita wrote, “But I heard from Sebastian’s staff that he is very strict when it came to working. If anyone makes any mistakes, he will scold them. He also mentioned that if I worked under him, he would not show mercy to me. To affect the relationship between us siblings, I would not trouble him…”
Anita was most afraid of being scolded. Although she had a good temper, she was still a spoiled little princess. Of course, she would not like to be scolded, even if the person who scolded her was her own brother.
Anita’s texts continued, “You must be careful when working at NRTE! Don’t allow Sebastian the chance to scold you!
Sophia could not help but laugh and reply, “It’s not that scary.”
It was not really that bad.
Anita replied, “It’s not like you have never spoken to Sebastian. Aren’t you usually very sensitive? How could you have a non-scary impression of Sebastian after arguing with him a few times!” Sophia did not know what to say to that.
It seemed like it was true. Although Sebastian had apologized to her, he was really mean in their previous arguments.
Sophia thought about it and defended herself. “I didn’t suffer any losses.”
She even received many expensive maternity supplies for free.
Anita suddenly typed a bunch of gibberish, and Sophia sent a question mark in confusion..
