Daisy appearing with the CEO’s assistant made Rosa not want to go shopping with Sophia. However, Sophia did not insist. She was already delighted that she had passed the interview with NRTE today, so she selectively ignored the slight uneasiness she felt when she met Daisy.

Sophia told Olivia the good news about the interview. Olivia was going to come over in a taxi and take Sophia out for a big meal to celebrate.

However, the plan was unsuccessful because Sophia still had to go home to pack.

It was a bit far from Wall Street to Sophia’s home. It would take an hour by taxi. It was not ideal as it would be too tiring for her to commute to and fro work.

She planned to rent a place on Wall Street to be more convenient for her to go to work.

She had not planned it out yet. She thought that even if she passed the interview, it would take at least two days before they gave her an answer, so she was not in a hurry to find an apartment nearby.

She did not expect that she would pass the interview on the spot. The slightly older interviewer, Herbert, had told her to start tomorrow.

As time was tight, she planned to stay in a hotel for a few days and slowly look for an apartment while she worked.

When Sophia arrived home, her mother, Laura, had just finished making lunch. She smelled a strong aroma when she entered the house and shouted happily, “Mom, I’m back. What delicious food are you preparing?”

Laura answered while setting up the table, “I made beef today to supplement your health.”

Sophia put down her backpack and went to the kitchen to help Laura with the dishes.

“That’s a lot that you cooked. Can we finish them all? Shall I invite Olivia over?”

The many dishes almost filled the entire kitchen. Sophia placed the dishes on the dining table one by one.

Laura smiled. “Of course, we can invite Olivia over, but it’s not just the two of us having lunch at home today. Dad and Brother will be joining us. They’ll be back soon.”

Sophia was a little surprised. Her brother, David, was the owner and coach of a gym. He didn’t have much to do, so he came back occasionally for lunch. But her father, Carl, was different. He was the boss of a well-established company and was usually busy. He only had breakfast and dinner at home. He ate lunch prepared by his wife at the office, so he rarely came home for lunch.

“Is today a special day?”

Laura set the dishes. “It’s not a special day. It’s just that they are not busy today, so they informed me that they are coming back for lunch. By the way, how was your interview today?”

Sophia said proudly, “I did very well! They complimented me!”

Although she argued with the interviewers about her pregnancy, they were still very satisfied with her answers to other questions.

Laura praised her, “I knew it! You are the best. Everyone likes you.’

The front door opened as soon as the table was set, and Carl and David walked in.

The family sat at the dining table. Carl had had a few disagreements with Sophia because of the child, so he left her alone. Usually, he would ignore Sophia when she talked to him, but they were father and daughter. So the feud didn’t last long. Now that Sophia was starting her internship soon, Carl couldn’t continue giving her the cold shoulder.

Carl thought a company couldn’t hire a pregnant woman, no matter how capable the woman was.

If Sebastian hadn’t announced on the spot that Sophia had passed the interview today, the executives in NRTE would have given up on Sophia after careful consideration—hiring a pregnant woman was indeed very risky for the company. As rational analysts, they all knew this. Even Herbert, the old analyst who hadn’t said anything about Sophia’s pregnancy, thought the same.

Carl looked at Sophia’s happy face and felt sorry for her.

Typically, it would take several days for a company to inform her of their decision, so Sophia probably didn’t know she would be rejected.

He asked her the same question as Laura, “How was the interview today?”

Although he did not say Sophia’s name, she was the only one in their family who went for an interview today.

“It’s my first time attending an interview, so I was a little nervous, but I think I did quite well.”

This was the first time Carl had been so caring and concerned about her in so many days. She answered carefully, not as proud as when she responded to her mother.

David comforted his sister, “It’s normal to be nervous. You’re still a student. It would be strange if you were not nervous facing so many experienced people in the business world.”

Sophia agreed.

Carl said, “It’s okay. If you really need an internship, you can do it at my company. Your brother is not interested in these things anyway. I will have to hand my company over to you in the future.”

Sophia said blankly, “But I’ve already passed the interview with NRTE.”
