The Ice-Cold Executive Gets A Wife Novel - Chapter 198
Chapter 198: Innocent Playmates
“You two are old acquaintances. Why are you being so polite?” Annie Harris looked at the couple in front of her with a smile. They were really a good match.
Annie had always been a romantic. She always fantasized about love, but after marrying her husband, Kevin, she always felt something was missing. She couldn’t quite put the finger on what was it with Kevin. He was considerate in every way, but the only thing was that he was too ambitious. Fortunately, he was finally willing to accompany her to travel around the world.
Ten years ago, when Annie had nothing to do, she had always fantasized about the feelings of the two young children before her. When Ellie was thirteen years old, she had followed her father, Alex, to visit them. Annie had already thought about how compatible the two kids would be when they grew up together, married, and had children. They were childhood sweethearts. How wonderful would it be if the two of them had qualms?
Ellie might have even become her daughter-in-law if not for the accident that night. Now, she could only treat Ellie as half of her daughter.
“Ellie, if there’s anything, just ask Sebastian to do it. There’s no need to thank him. He should help you,” Kevin said as he looked at his son sternly.
In Sebastian’s eyes, his parents had always treated Ellie as their own. In comparison, he was like an outsider taking photos of them.
His first-born brother, Joseph, naturally received more attention from his parents. After all, the first time was always fresh. His third-born sister, Anita, made his parents even happier. After all, daughters were meant to be pampered. Sebastian seemed to be living in the cracks between them, while Ellie and Raphael, raised in the wild, were more like family.
“Of course, of course. After all, we are all family. Mr. and Mrs. Harris, let’s make a toast.” Ellie knew that if they continued talking, they would bring up what happened that night, so she quickly stopped them.
“Okay, okay, okay. To family, cheers.” The Harris couple looked at each other and raised their glasses with a smile in their eyes.
“Cheers.” Sebastian also raised his glass.
Allie remembered that the last time she had a drink with Sebastian was ten years ago. Back then, they had just legally become adults. Although their birthdays were not close, Raphael suggested they find a place to get drunk and treat it as their coming-of-age ceremony. Among the three of them, only Raphael had drunk hard liquor before. Others might not believe it, but she and Sebastian had never touched alcohol in the first eighteen years.
“Gosh, it burns! Raphael, what kind of lousy liquor did you get? It tastes so bad! I don’t want to drink it anymore,” Ellie shouted.
Although Ellie sometimes did some pranks, alcohol had always been taboo in her house. Back then, she was obsessed with what Raphael had to say. However, she realized she had been deceived once she took a sip. It was far from how Raphael described it – something that could make one forget their worries. It tasted too damn bad.
“That won’t do. I already said I wouldn’t go home until I’m wasted tonight. I spent a lot of effort to get this baby. Can you have a little taste?” Raphael said as he drank to show his respect.
In fact, Raphael had stolen it from Sebastian’s grandfather, his father’s wine room. He said this to let them know he had worked hard and achieved great things.
“Hurry up! Don’t waste a drop,” Raphael added.
Ellie could tell that Raphael’s alcohol tolerance was not something he could handle alone.
However, he was very fond of acting strong at that age, and his mouth was always running.
When Sebastian saw Ellie staring blankly at the wine glass, he knew Ellie was not bickering with Raphael.
So he took Ellie’s glass and drank. “If a girl says she doesn’t want to drink, then don’t make her drink. This is called respect.”
“You… You little b*stard! Are you schooling your uncle? You don’t even have facial hair yet. Do you know what respect is? Respect is to respect the old and love the young. So you should call me ‘uncle’. This is called respect.” Raphael’s mouth was running even though he had not drunk as much as he said he could.
Although Raphael was not older than Sebastian by a few months, he had used his seniority to force Sebastian to call him ‘uncle’ since he was young.
What a childish person. When Ellie heard the words ‘I am your uncle’, she sighed internally. This guy was here again.
“Stop talking nonsense. Drink.” Sebastian had been a man of few words since he was young, especially toward Raphael.
Ellie knew that Sebastian had swallowed her share just to get rid of it.
“Let’s drink. I’m not afraid of you! Remember to call me ‘uncle’ when I win,” Raphael said stubbornly.
Ellie found it funny when she recalled her protest. Who knew that it was her and Sebastian, who never drank, relying on alcohol daily to socialize with those who were covetous or extremely greedy for money.
But then again, back then, she, Sebastian, and Raphael were invincible..
