The Death List Novel - Chapter 701
Chapter 701 Slaughter
Because of Qin Lun’s disappearance, the members of the exploration team hadn’t rested since annihilating Zhuo Er Elves. When they retreated to the entrance of the tunnel, no one could hold on any longer. Even Apostle fell into a deep slumber when they closed their eyes.
Half a day passed after everyone woke up. After they hurriedly ate, Elistine sent them back to the other side of the underground ditch. She, Jillim, Idrea, and Mastasia would continue to stay in the pit, monitoring the gray dwarves while looking for traces of Qin Lun.
Perhaps it was because of their relationship that they had achieved their mission goals. The Dwarves and Apostle were both very happy, and the pace of their return was exceptionally light. But when they returned to the labyrinth fortress, the joy disappeared.
After the previous battle, the ox-headed monster told the dwarves the mechanical gates leading to the fortress hall, so that they wouldn’t have to take too long a detour when they passed through the plains.
When the dwarves arrived at the labyrinth hall through the straight path, they were immediately stunned by the tragic scene before them. The hall that had been cleaned up was now covered with the remains and blood of the ox-headed monsters. This time, even those young ox-headed monsters were not spared.
Hill saw the little cow-headed monster that had instructed the expedition team where Qin Lun was going. It knelt on the ground, its neck empty. Its hands were purposely folded on its thighs, and it held its little head in its hands.
His originally watery eyes were now dead silent as he stared blankly at the dwarves who had entered through the back door.
“Moradin is here. What happened here?” A dwarf axe thrower raised his head and pointed at the top of the hall in shock, “Look up there …”
During the last battle, Romon and Rand’s Lava Flame Dragon collided with one of the Zhuo Er Priests’ spells of time and space, resulting in a large hole in the top of the hall.
The only remaining adult ox-headed monsters were hanging at the edge of the hole. Their limbs and skulls had been chained into a “big” shape, and their chests and abdomens had been ripped open. The white ribs were open to both sides, and with the clavicle as the axis, they opened diagonally upwards, like a pair of oddly shaped bone wings.
The faces of the two ox-headed monsters were facing each other. Their heads had been carefully crafted, and their skin, flesh, and blood had all been shaved off. Their upper and lower jaws had been stretched open.
Their skulls, parietal corners, and even canine fangs had been carefully cleaned without a trace of dirt sticking to them. The pale-white ox-head skeleton slightly drooped down. The empty holes in its eyes made everyone’s heart palpitate with a single glance, and they could not help but cast aside their line of sight.
“This is” Rand’s pupils narrowed as he looked at the two ox-headed monster corpses that were imitating angels.
“Without a doubt, this is his work.” Hill sighed. “Looks like he’s always ahead of us. Now I just hope …”
“Where are our people?” Before Hill could finish speaking, the shocked dwarves suddenly recalled something and cried out in alarm.
If the Ox-Heads were in danger, Dwarves would definitely come to their aid. The two races were a chaotic neutral camp and a good-natured camp, but they were very similar in character.
Most of them were straightforward, unrestrained, and loyal. Once they treated others as friends, they would definitely pay with all their heart. The Dwarves had saved the Ox-Head Monster before. This was a kindness, but the Ox-Head Monster had agreed to let Dwarves camp at the edge of the nest. The two of them could be said to be close friends and were full of emotions.
If the ox-headed monster was attacked, the dwarves would not sit idly by unless they were all dead.
However, the strange part was also here. There was not a single corpse of Dwarves in the hall.
After realizing this, the dwarves on the expedition team were so anxious that they could no longer calm down. They quickly retracted the corpses of the ox-headed monsters and ran with Apostle to the outpost camp outside the maze fortress.
“Could the corpse of the ox-headed monster be a sacrificial ceremony if it was made like that?” Wei Si Apostle, the female member of the Lolita team, asked softly.
“Are you referring to the Drow Fairy’s return?” Wei Si frowned. There weren’t many races that used sacrificial rituals in the Buried City. The most likely ones were the Drow Elves.
“However, only three of the Zhuo Er Elves escaped in the end. Apart from the priest who used the portal to escape, the other two were injured. It was hard to imagine that they were capable of killing these ox-heads without alerting Dwarves.” Newton cautiously retorted.
“It’s possible. You should think about things and escape from the circle of thinking.” Wei Si shook his head indifferently. “Those Zhuo Er Elves really don’t have the ability to destroy the remaining Minotaur, but who knew that Elves had only one team that chased after the defector of Dark Zhuo Er?”
The others were stunned, and they all came to their senses. The Dark Elves Riven did say that they were not the only ones in Zhuo Er who escaped from Obalan City. If the defectors had split up along the way, then there would definitely not be only one group of pursuers.
“Guild Leader, do you think this matter has anything to do with the disappearing Qin Lun?” The black-robed mage Romon asked as he rubbed his chin.
“I can’t think of a reason for him to do this!” Wei Si’s eyes lit up. After pondering for a moment, he shook his head. “He definitely can’t kill so many ox-heads by himself. If he were to switch to the Zhuo Er camp, the reward for the mission he’s about to receive would be gone …”
“You’re right!” Romon shrugged his shoulders. If there was a root cause for what the apostles were doing, then there was only the word benefit. The expedition team had yet to bring Lorraine and one of Jillim back to the surface, and the mission was not complete. Qin Lun would definitely not be thankful if he switched sides at this time.
…
The expedition team and the apostles arrived at the plains to the right of the labyrinth fortress, where Jillim had booked the camp. Everyone’s hearts sank when they saw a simple fence from afar.
Even though they were a long way away, they could already smell the strong smell of blood. The dwarves took the lead in speeding past the apostles and flew into the camp as if they were flying, but they immediately let out roars of sorrow.
The faces of Wei Si and the others who were still outside the camp instantly darkened. If the dwarves in the camp did not survive, then they would have to turn around. Without one of Lorraine and Jillim, even if they returned to the surface camp, they wouldn’t be able to complete their mission.
The return of Lorraine and Jillim to the camp was the basic condition for the Shattered Universe to accept this mission.
Fortunately, when they searched the camp, they found that Dwarves’s corpses were missing, including Lorraine and two other Dwarves warriors. This time, even Wei Si could not guess what had happened here.
“It’s Zhuo Er. They just left. Chad’s blood is still hot!” One of Dwarves jumped up from the ground and ran out of the camp like an axe. Under his lead, the other Dwarves ran into the distance.
“Guild Leader, should we go back or follow Dwarves?” Romon scratched his head and asked.
If he went back, Jillim would definitely not be able to stay at the mine under such circumstances. According to Wei Si’s steady personality, he originally wanted to choose this way, but Hill’s subsequent words made him give up this idea.
Hill advised him that the group of Dwarves in front of him were all elites. If they were to be killed by the Zhuo Er Elves again, then after meeting Jillim, apart from the monkeys escorting the Dark Elves and the disappearing Qin Lun, they would only have six apostles and four storyline characters left.
If the Zhuo Er Elves were to persist and chase after them, with such a small amount of strength left, they might be annihilated.
Hill’s words were very reasonable. Weiss had to let everyone follow those impulsive Dwarves again, so that they wouldn’t be caught off guard by the Zhuo Er Elves who were hiding somewhere.
…
On an underground cliff about half a day’s journey from the Dwarves expedition, a group of Zhuo Er warriors spread out into an arc-shaped defensive ring, protecting two female elves in priest robes. Many patrolling Lizardman knights could be seen on the periphery.
This was a green-skinned monster riding a giant lizard. It was about two meters tall, with a strong flat tail dragged behind it. Its biting power was astonishing, and it spat out snake letters from its upper and lower jaws. Its earthen yellow vertical pupils resembled those of a snake.
The Lizardman Knights were one of the main forces in the Buried City. With the Giant Lizards they raised, their combat strength was impressive. The scales on their surfaces were extremely sturdy, even better than leather armors made by most humans and elves. Their only weakness was their low fire resistance.
This kind of underground cold-blooded animal was covered in thick grease under its scales. Once its body was oven dry, it would immediately turn into a human torch.
“Mother Wendini, do you really trust that Earth Elf?” The two female Zhuo Er elves leaned against each other and whispered to each other. A petite female elf with a charming face curled her lips and asked another slightly older Zhuo Er priest beside her.
“Kirkner, haven’t you seen him change his appearance?” The old priest’s eyes lit up and he said calmly, “I didn’t expect that there would be a devil-like Fallen Hunter in this area. With his appearance, the other Elves on the surface wouldn’t accept him.”
“As for trust …” Wendini smiled meaningfully. “Since he can help us hunt down the Ox-Head Monster and the Dwarves, then I believe he can help us find those two damned traitors and blasphemers!”
“Looks like the Miranda family will get another outstanding guest!” The petite girl Elves let out a burst of exquisite laughter.
“Guest Qing?” Wendini secretly sneered. She admired what the man had done, but did not like the appearance of Elves on the surface. When this matter was over and she washed away the humiliation that Dwarves had given her, the silver-haired Elves would naturally be sacrificed to the Goddess Empress.
“I hope the Goddess likes a rare species like the Demon Hunter!” Thinking of this, Wendini raised her head to look at the silhouette that was sitting on the edge of the cliff like a statue.
Silver-haired Elves supported his chin with one hand and looked at the distant underground plains. A lazy smile appeared on his marble-like handsome face. The silver clock in his right eye flickered with a line of perception, and the expressions and lips of the two priestesses behind him were displayed exactly on the retina.
