The Death List Novel - Chapter 66
Chapter 66 Undying Princess
“Clang!” The iron lock smashed into the sturdy corridor, making a loud noise, startling the intruders of the auxiliary castle.
“Hey, quickly open the iron fence. After checking the last floor, we will leave immediately. The mayor is still waiting for everyone.” A middle-aged townsman frowned and covered his nose. “This place really stinks!”
There were many ferocious beasts imprisoned in the castle, and there were very few doors and windows. Everywhere was filled with animal droppings and body odors. Although Albert Castle’s main castle and its four auxiliary castles had been invaded by the townsfolk, the auxiliary castle only had all sorts of filthy cells and torture tools. Ordinary townsfolk only inspected the lower floors and did not go deeper. They directly left the auxiliary castle.
The townsfolk who were still in the deputy castle and insisted on inspecting all the cells were members of the security forces led by the sheriffs of the various small towns. Their mission was to prevent ordinary townsfolk from harming innocent people in the castle, to minimize the destruction of Albert Castle, and to collect evidence of the Albert family’s disease and antidote.
“Hey, look! What … is this, a wolf? Isn’t this … too big?” Opening the corridor fence that led to the top iron prison, the first few townsfolk who entered looked at the creatures in the iron prison with shock.
“This is probably the magical creature that the Holy Healing Master Totti talked about” The two sheriffs exchanged glances as they looked at the sturdy werewolves and gulped down a mouthful of saliva.
“Let’s be gentle. These werewolves have probably been anesthetized. Don’t alert them!” The sheriff instructed all the townspeople gently.
“Sir, there are living people here!” A townsman who walked to the end of the iron prison area suddenly suppressed his voice and beckoned to the two sheriffs.
Inside the innermost cell, there was a human whose limbs and neck were tied by an iron collar. The man knelt on the ground, his head lowered, his face covered with messy hair. However, looking at his body and exposed skin, he should be a young man.
“Sir, he’s still alive!”
“Open the cell door and get him out!” The two sheriffs looked at Tie Lou with fury, “The Albert Clan indeed has a secret!”
The exorcist clan raised magical creatures. Although the two sheriffs who knew about the exorcist were a little unhappy, the Audi region was still on the frontlines to fight against evil creatures. They could understand what they were doing.
However, if a living person were to appear in the cell, the nature would be different. The imprisonment and trial of the living should belong to the secular regime. This was equivalent to the Albert Clan invading the jurisdiction of the two magistrates. Of course, it would arouse their anger.
A few townsfolk struggled for a long time before finally using a crowbar to unlock the iron collar that locked the young man and help him out of the cell.
“Eh, why do I feel that he looks a little familiar?” A sheriff smoothed away the young man’s golden hair and looked at his companion in confusion.
“Who are you?” The young man suddenly opened his eyes and asked in a hoarse voice.
“We are the sheriffs of Odia. We are collecting the crimes of the Albert family!” Another sheriff squatted in front of the young man and comforted him softly, “Young man, you’re safe now. Tell me, how did you end up being privately imprisoned by Baron Albert? Who are you?”
“Collect the crimes of the Albert family? Who am I?” Suddenly, a trace of pain appeared on the young man’s face. His entire body trembled and he fell to the ground with his hands clasped behind his head. “Albert … who am I?”
“Eh, he … I know who he is!” The sheriff, who had been frowning, suddenly widened his eyes and pointed at the young man as if he had seen a ghost. “He is … Baron Albert’s eldest son, Stephen Albert. I attended his funeral!”
“I am … Stephen Albert?! My Nina … No, Mary! Little Miller …” Hearing Stephen’s name, the young man suddenly stopped trembling and muttered to himself as he straightened his upper body. His originally confused eyes slowly became clear.
“I remember … I remember everything. Haha, so I’m still alive. That old fellow isn’t willing to kill me?!” Stephen’s face was filled with ecstasy. “It’s a pity that Nina … hehe, what’s that? Isn’t there another witch in Maya Forest?”
“Stephen, since you are Stephen, do you still remember what happened more than a year ago? Is there an antidote to the undying plague developed by Baron Albert?” The two sheriffs exchanged glances and asked in surprise.
“More than a year ago … more than a year has passed? No wonder I’m so hungry!” Stephen glanced at his thin hands and raised his head to look at the two sheriffs and the other townspeople, revealing a meaningful smile. “I don’t know what the Undying Plague is, I only know that I’m very hungry. I really … thank you for letting me out!”
Under the dim lights of the corridor, Stephen’s shadow on the wall swelled and pounced towards the sheriff.
“Ah! You … what are you? Help … Help!” The shouts of the sheriffs and townspeople could be heard from the top floor of the castle.
…
Surprised, stunned, puzzled, and dignified … Many expressions appeared on the faces of the two groups of people who were confronting each other in the banquet hall. Only the person Qin Lun had accused had an indifferent expression on his face.
Elizabeth, who was called Albert by Qin Lun, still had a sweet smile on her round, snow-white face. The little princess played with her curly blonde hair with her chubby fingers and took two steps forward with the doll in her arms.
“What a wonderful reasoning! Doctor Stan, an exorcist like you would have been able to become the chief of staff of the Exorcist Legion even in the last century more than three hundred years ago.” Elizabeth blinked playfully at Qin Lun. “But I have one more question. Can you answer me truthfully?”
As soon as Elizabeth said those words, the faces of the exorcists were filled with shock. Although they had already believed Qin Lun’s deduction, it was still hard to believe that they had been confirmed by a young girl.
“My little princess, if you have any questions, just ask!” Qin Lun nodded excitedly.
He didn’t mind stalling for a bit longer. Although the main castle gate was very strong, it wouldn’t last long in front of thousands of townsfolk. His mission had been completed, and he had no interest in the battle that was likely to happen next. Leaving Albert Castle while the chaos was around was the best choice.
“Hehe, Doctor Stan, you said you had another piece of evidence to rule out Laura’s suspicion!” Elizabeth pouted and sucked on her chubby fingers, her big eyes flashing, “Can you tell me what kind of evidence it is? Little Elizabeth feels that she is very well disguised!”
“Oh? This!” Qin Lun frowned and spread out his hands. “Actually, it’s better if you don’t know! Because … even without that evidence, your disguise is still terrible!”
“Speak! If you don’t, Elizabeth won’t let you off!” The girl angrily swung the doll and fiercely waved her small fist.
“Alright, let’s talk about the decisive evidence first!” A smile appeared on Qin Lun’s face. “Do you remember the first night I came to the castle, after dinner, I met you on the female wall outside the castle?”
“Of course I remember. It seems to have rained one day!” Elizabeth tilted her head and thought, “Do you doubt that I am undying, seeing that I am not ill in the rain?”
“Hehe, of course not!” Qin Lun smiled and said, “It was only after I became an exorcist that I realized that something was wrong that night! You once told me about the Albert family’s teachings that night, didn’t you?”
“A thousand years of duty, a thousand years of protection, a thousand years of glory!” Elizabeth lowered her eyelids and said in a serious tone, “Is that so?”
“Yes, yes! You said that at that time, this was what your father said!” Qin Lun’s eyes lit up as he spoke solemnly for the first time.
“After becoming an exorcist, I learned something about Stephen from Bonny. It seems to you that Stephen doesn’t like fighting and has no interest in becoming an exorcist. Although Nina only revealed her identity more than a year ago, as her husband, I believe that Stephen should have known this fact earlier than you. Otherwise, Nina would not have escaped to Maya Forest with him!
If Stephen had known Nina’s true identity a long time ago, the problem would have arisen. He didn’t like fighting and didn’t want to be an exorcist. He even concealed the truth that his wife was a Mayan witch. How could an Albert descendant like him talk about the family’s exorcist mantra? ”
Elizabeth’s face was bitter and her eyebrows were knitted together. She seemed to know what Qin Lun was going to say next. Sure enough, Qin Lun gave her a meaningful look and continued with a smile.
“So I suspected that your father wasn’t Stephen Albert! And when I saw the portrait of the first Baron Albert in Albert’s library castle and saw the family motto below it, I knew who your father was!”
Qin Lun bowed gracefully to Elizabeth and said, “Please accept the respect of a late exorcist for your father. The first Baron Albert, Lorenzo Albert, is an example to all of us exorcists!”
“You guessed it! Forget it, there’s no need to pretend to be polite anymore. I’m starting to hate your cleverness!” The smile on Elizabeth’s face finally disappeared. She sighed helplessly and waved her hand weakly. “Is there anything else?”
“Yes, a lot! However, compared to this guess, it’s only a small detail!” Qin Lun nodded honestly, “If you’re done, I have a question for you! I don’t know …”
“Are you asking me why I became an undying person?” Elizabeth closed her eyes calmly, as if she had fallen into a distant memory. “It’s all right, I’ll tell you! Father once said that if I’m tired one day, I don’t have to worry about the Albert family anymore, and I can tell the world all of this!”
