The Death List Novel - Chapter 34
Chapter 34 Coffin
“Young Master, this way!”
A huge black figure poked its head out of the forest beside the mountain road and waved at the figure who had just run across the stone bridge.
The figure that came out of the castle late at night was naturally Qin Lun.
He had deliberately left the impression of running early in the morning for everyone in the castle these past few days. Although he was more than an hour earlier than usual today, even if the servants in the castle discovered him, they would at most think that he could not sleep at night and would get up early to run to avoid arousing suspicions.
“Have you found a place?” Qin Lun looked back at the castle and pulled Frank into the woods.
“Yes, Young Master. Actually, I came back yesterday. I stayed in the woods for a day, but no one noticed me!” Frank said softly.
“Bring me there. We’re running out of time. I need to go back immediately after dawn!” Qin Lun led Frank into the woods on the side of the mountain road. The two of them gradually disappeared into the darkness.
Shortly after Qin Lun and the others left, a small whirlwind slowly whirled around the place where they had just stopped. A blurry white figure appeared on the spot. The figure seemed to look up and slowly drifted towards the direction of their departure like a ghost …
Albert Castle was situated on a steep, sword-like cliff, connected to a stone bridge on the other side of the cliff. Behind the castle was a heavenly chasm across the river from the Myya Forest.
The cliff on the front of the castle that was connected to the stone bridge was actually a large hillside. This hillside was about two hundred meters tall, and the slope was gentle. From the bottom of the hill to the top, there was a coiling path of mud and stones. It was the passage between the castle and several small towns below the hill.
The top of the mountain was flat and covered with sparse woods. The two of them were currently advancing through the darkness of the woods.
“Young Master, this is it!” About ten minutes later, the hunchbacked servant leading the way stopped in front of a stone tablet.
“Dig it open!” Qin Lun looked up at the sky and took the lead in picking up a shovel on the ground.
“Young Master, just let me do it!” Frank hurriedly stretched out his hand.
“No, let’s go together. Time is too tight!” Qin Lun shook his hand and continued to work.
Very quickly, the stone stele fell to the ground, and a large pit was dug in the mud behind it, revealing a coffin below.
“Open it!” Qin Lun’s eyes lit up as he looked at the coffin.
“Yes, Young Master!” Frank agreed and spat on his hand. He picked up the tool and jumped into the grave, nailing the awl directly into the lid of the coffin.
“Duh duh!” In the silent night, accompanied by the cries of insects, the sound of knocking could be heard from afar. Through the hazy moonlight that penetrated the treetops, the stone stele that fell to the ground revealed the stone carvings on it.
“Stephen Albert.”
“Finnish calendar 1694-1732”
This is Stephen Albert’s grave! In fact, this woodland was Albert’s family cemetery, and the people buried around it were the ancestors of the Albert family.
The death of Stephen Albert is not a secret. Almost everyone in Odia Town knows that the Albert family claimed that he died of a disease, but did not reveal whether he died of an epidemic disease or not.
A few days ago, when Qin Lun first arrived at Albert Castle, he instructed Frank to ask the servants of the castle about the cause of Stephen’s death and the location of his grave. Of course, all the questions were prepared by Qin Lun. They were simple and obscure questions, such as asking Elizabeth or Laura the whereabouts of their father and brother, Stephen, and finding out if they were buried in the family cemetery.
Qin Lun knew that the Albert Clan had definitely agreed to this, so these questions shouldn’t arouse the servants’ suspicions. Naturally, they would be able to confirm the location of the cemetery.
In fact, even without Little Miller, Kieran would have Frank leave the castle at the right time to find Stephen’s grave for him. For hunchbacked servants who had been digging corpses and providing medical research materials for many years, as long as they knew the general direction of the cemetery, it would be as easy as turning their palms.
“Creak!” The coffin let out an ear-piercing sound. Frank was very strong and used to doing this kind of thing. He quickly opened the lid of the nailed coffin.
“Bang!” The lid of the coffin was thrown aside by the hunchback servant.
“How could this be?” Frank looked at the coffin and was shocked.
“Hahaha!” Qin Lun’s gloomy laughter sounded from the dim graveyard.
As expected! Qin Lun’s eyes lit up as he pinched his knuckles. Under the hazy moonlight, Stephen Albert’s coffin was empty and there were no corpses.
“Young Master, is this Stephen still alive?” Frank turned to look at Qin Lun in surprise.
The hunchback servant originally thought that his master wanted to borrow Stephen’s corpse for some kind of medical research, just like before. With his meager sophistication, it was impossible to imagine how Stephen’s identity was different from other ordinary corpses.
“Whether he’s dead or not, I’m not sure yet!” Qin Lun shook his head. He didn’t explain anything to Frank. The hunchback servant didn’t need to know this.
Just as Qin Lun was about to instruct his servants to rebury the coffin, he suddenly felt a cold breeze blowing on his back, causing his heart to throb inexplicably. He turned around like a whirlwind and fiercely waved the shovel in his hand behind him.
Dang! Qin Lun couldn’t help but stagger as he swung the shovel in the air. The iron shovel head slammed into the ground and sparked a string of sparks.
“Young Master, what’s wrong?” Frank hurriedly climbed up from the grave and stood beside his master with the hammer and awl in his hand.
Illusion? No, no! Qin Lun narrowed his eyes slightly, and a scarlet blood color began to appear in his pupils.
“This is the second time!” Qin Lun looked at the empty forest in front of him and shouted, “Since you have something to say to me, come out!”
“Young Master” The hunchback servant squeezed the tool in his hand and nervously looked at the gloomy forest in front of him.
He had been dealing with the corpses in the cemetery all year round and was no stranger to the current situation. Every time there was silence around the cemetery, without the sound of insects, he would see something strange. And now, this cemetery was like this. The surroundings were terrifyingly quiet. It was as if they were isolated in another space, belonging to the world of the dead.
“Sigh … Xiao ~ ~ Xin!” In the darkest shadow in front of the two of them, a white, hazy figure suddenly appeared, floating in the forest.
The white figure looked like a long-haired woman in a white dress. The woman raised her hand towards them, and a pitch-black hole appeared on her hazy face. It was as if a faint warning was coming from her mouth.
“Young Master, be careful!” Just as Qin Lun was staring at the white figure, an angry shout that was like a broken gong sounded in his ears.
Before Qin Lun could react, he felt a strong force coming from his side, and his body was suddenly pushed to the ground. This force was so fierce that he couldn’t help but roll on the ground several times.
It’s Frank! Qin Lun tightened his arms to cover his head and face, knowing that the hunchback servant had pushed him down. If it weren’t for Frank, who was so close to him, it would have been impossible for the demon in his body to not react in time.
What is this? When Qin Lun stood up in a sorry state, he was shocked by the scene in front of him. The hunchbacked servant was tangled with a monster with long bat wings and a height close to an adult’s shoulder, rolling and fighting on the ground.
The monster’s entire body was pitch black. The wings on its back were like the wings of a bat. The head of a demon had a pair of goat horns. In its grinning mouth, two rows of teeth were as sharp as knives, four fingers on its palm were like hooks, and a long sickle-shaped tail was on its back.
“This is … a stone statue ghost?!” Qin Lun raised his eyebrows slightly. He was no stranger to this item. There were many statues of this item on the stone bridge in front of Albert Castle.
This was truly interesting! Qin Lun thought a thousand times, but the movements in his hand weren’t slow at all. He took a step forward and the shovel in his hand swung away like a guillotine.
Dang! The sharp shovel hacked down on the stone statue ghost’s body, as if it had hacked into a hard rock, only smashing it down from Frank’s body.
So hard! Qin Lun’s arms felt numb, and even his shovel almost slipped out of his hand.
The stone ghost rolled on the ground and shook its head. A deep scar appeared on its neck, but no blood flowed out.
“Ao!” The monster was enraged by the unexpected blow. It turned its head and glared at Qin Lun angrily, its grey pupils shining with a faint blue light. “Hu!” One of his bat wings flew towards Qin Lun, sticking to the ground.
Good job! Qin Lun’s expression changed. He suddenly threw away the shovel in his hand and a strange black dagger fell from his sleeve into his palm.
A cruel smile appeared on his calm face. He extended his tongue and licked his lips. A bloodthirsty red light instantly ignited from the depths of his pupils and filled his eyes.
“Young Master, run!”
Just as the Stone Statue Ghost was about to hit Qin Lun, a figure pounced over from the side. With his arms wide open, he picked up the Stone Statue Ghost horizontally and slammed into a large tree beside him.
“Bang!” The tree trunk that was more than a meter in diameter and required two people to hug trembled. The leaves fell and scattered down.
The hunchbacked servant squeezed the statue ghost into the tree trunk with his large and thick body. The monster howled in anger and bit Frank’s shoulder. Its sharp teeth were deeply embedded in the collarbone like sharp knives.
Humph! Qin Lun’s usually gentle and elegant face twisted. He didn’t appreciate Frank’s snatching of prey.
However, seeing the hunchbacked servant and the stone statue ghost entangled, the corners of the murderer’s mouth curled into a strange smile. He lowered his head and shoulders, and sprinted two steps, “Bang!” With a thud, he jumped up and crashed into Frank’s back.
“Oh!” Frank’s throat sweetened and he involuntarily spat out a mouthful of blood. However, before he could react to what was going on, he felt a sharp pain coming from his shoulder.
“Pu!” A black saber tip circled around his shoulder blade and pierced into the mouth of the statue ghost, nailing Frank and the monster to the tree trunk.
