The Death List Novel - Chapter 31
Chapter 31 Little Miller
As Qin Lun and Baron Albert were drinking tea and chatting in the courtyard, a small crack suddenly opened in the door of his empty guest room. A figure flashed through the crack.
When the young man went out with the old butler in the morning, time was running out. The curtains in the guest room weren’t even drawn, and the room wasn’t lit enough. It was slightly dark.
The silhouette muttered softly. He took out a pebble-sized luminous pearl from his bosom and illuminated the room with a blurry light. The silhouette seemed to be very familiar with the layout of the room. After hesitating for a moment, it walked towards the medicine chest that Qin Lun had placed in the corner.
However, just as the figure was halfway there, his attention was attracted by a single piece of paper on the desk beside him. Actually, the stack of notes on the desk was left with only this one, and the rest of the letters had been disposed of by Qin Lun.
This piece of paper was naturally the note that Qin Lun had thrown down the cliff first, and then strangely returned to the desk afterwards. However, this time, all the handwriting on the letter had been blackened by him, and he could no longer see what was written on it. Qin Lun’s idea was very simple. Since he couldn’t throw it away, then he would paint it off.
The silhouette picked up the letter and checked it against the light of the Light Pearl. It found that the handwriting could no longer be read. However, when the figure stroked the letter with his finger, a trace of joy appeared on his face.
In this era, the letter paper was thicker. After all, Qin Lun was not a person from this world. He was not used to using quill brushes. When he wrote, he was able to penetrate through the back of the paper. As a result, there were still a few traces left on the back of the letter paper. As long as the figure returned to his room and used something like charcoal, he could display the inverse handwriting on the back of the paper.
“Crack!” Just as the figure was secretly delighted, a loud noise came from behind him. A cold wind suddenly pounced on his back.
A burst of hair stood upright. Turning around, he saw a window wide open behind the room. The strong wind blew the curtains up and floated.
‘”Shh ~ ~” The figure heaved a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to leave, he stopped like a ghost. He turned around and walked towards the window. He slightly lifted the curtains and was about to reach out to close the door and window again.
“Bang!” It was unknown if the wind was strong at this moment, but one of the small double-door windows suddenly rebounded and collided with the arm and elbow of the shadow on the windowsill.
“Hiss ~ ~” The figure sucked in a breath of cold air and felt a numbness in his arm. He didn’t feel anything at all. It seemed as if he had just hit the numb tendons on his elbow.
“Shit!” The figure suddenly let out a soft cry. The letter that he had originally held in his hand floated out of the window and was blown far away by the strong wind.
The silhouette hurriedly reached out and grabbed it, “Chi la!” He grabbed the letter and shattered it. Most of it was scattered all over the place. He only grabbed a small horn.
“Unlucky!” The silhouette murmured hatefully in a low voice. He turned around and looked out of the window, but a trace of confusion flashed in his eyes. He always felt that this piece of paper seemed to have been torn apart by a force before he caught it.
The figure looked at the letter fragment in his hand and felt helpless in embarrassment. This was not the part with the handwriting. Without the letter, the silhouette finally cast its gaze back onto the medicine chest at the corner of the wall.
…
Qin Lun lowered his head and drank his tea, using the teacup to block the flickering gaze. The Killer Demon was not an expert in words. Under normal circumstances, he only used a gentle smile to conceal himself.
Although Evelyn Polarlys Academy had prepared many etiquette and social language for the apostles in the past half month, it was still too short a time for Qin Lun to control the situation.
Fortunately, the old baron in front of Qin Lun was not the crafty Grand Elder Goblin. In the frank exchange between the two sides, he finally obtained the information he cared about the most.
Baron Thomas Albert had two sons and a daughter, and the madam died young without a sequel. The eldest son, Stephen Albert, died more than a year ago. His second son, Bonny Albert, 24, and his third daughter, Laura Albert, 20, had already met Qin Lun at the dinner party last night.
The little princess of the Albert family, Elizabeth Albert, was the youngest daughter of Stephen Albert and the granddaughter of the old baron.
To Qin Lun’s surprise, the fifth member of the Albert family the old baron was referring to was not Stephen who had passed away, but his other child, the grandson of the old baron, Miller Albert!
The old baron invited Qin Lun over. Apart from representing the admiration and gratitude of the Odia officials, the most important thing was to ask him to treat his illness.
The old baron’s only grandson, Miller Albert, was also infected with that terrible plague!
No wonder Laura ignored the young girl’s restraint and waited for him in the castle corridor without even changing her outfit! No wonder Bonny questioned whether Qin Lun’s operation was true in an informal setting like a dinner party!
If the patient was their nephew, then all of this had been explained in a reasonable manner!
However … Qin Lun frowned slightly. He felt that there was still room for negligence and doubts that he couldn’t get over. Moreover, the note said, “Please save us!” What was going on with the supernatural note?
“The outbreak of this disease is very fast. Your Excellency the Baron should have told me the bad news yesterday!” Qin Lun put down his teacup and said solemnly, “Now let’s go take a look at Young Master Miller’s situation!”
Qin Lun did not ask the old baron for his opinion. He directly stood up and interrupted the half-eaten morning tea. As a doctor, it is his right. Not to mention a baron, even if the king was to face him, he would still be unable to object. Otherwise, he would be suspected of murdering a patient.
“Butler Jason, please send a maid to summon my attendant and get my medicine kit from the guest room. I’ll go and see Young Master Little Miller first!”
“As you wish!” The old butler bowed solemnly.
…
The bedrooms of the members of the Albert family were on the upper floor of the main castle. Because the main castle was like a tower, the higher it went, the smaller the floor area would be. The upper echelons were far away from the servants’ area, and there were only a few maids who were usually responsible for cleaning, so they looked very deserted.
“Squeak!” The stairs leading to the upper floors of the main castle were somewhat old, and under the trampling of the crowd, they would often let out overwhelming groans. Compared to the bustling noise on the lower floor of the main castle, this place seemed to be a different world, and the atmosphere was somewhat gloomy and cold.
The old butler, Jason, brought everyone to a bedroom near the top floor of the main castle and stopped. However, he did not open the door. Instead, he took a few steps back and stood behind everyone.
Qin Lun was slightly surprised, but he didn’t think too much about it. He took a step forward and took the initiative to open the door handle.
“No!” Seeing Qin Lun’s movements, Baron Albert and the old butler behind him cried out in alarm. They seemed to have forgotten to tell the young doctor something.
Luckily, Qin Lun’s expression changed the moment he opened the door. He quickly retreated and closed the door again. He turned around and scolded sternly, “What’s going on? Why is there such a strong scent of disease in the room?”
Baron Albert and the old butler looked at the doctor’s ugly face and smiled bitterly. They did not blame Qin Lun for his rudeness.
“Go get some alcohol and wet towels!” Qin Lun said with a stern face as he looked at their stammering and hesitant expressions.
Although his words were fierce, based on the situation just now, even if Qin Lun cursed loudly, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration. As soon as he entered the room, the death list warned him that the environment in the room was not suitable for humans to live in, and it was comparable in severity to the Stan Tower of the past.
Kieran had replaced Wellington Stein, who had died in such a polluted environment, and even the muscular hunchbacked servant Frank had almost died.
When the servants downstairs got the towels and alcohol, the hunchback servant also came with the medicine chest, followed by two other servants, Albert, Laura, and Bonny. However, they did not see Elizabeth, the little girl who was the size of a child. It was likely that the crowd did not want her to come into contact with the patient.
Qin Lun wet the towel with alcohol, covered his nose and mouth, and entered the room again. The windows of the room were opened as quickly as possible so that the strong winds outside the castle could disperse the poisonous gas accumulated in the room.
Seeing the doctor’s actions, the members of the Albert family exchanged a few tacit glances, but did not express any opinions. Although the old butler Jason wanted to say something, he was stopped by Baron Albert’s gaze.
Qin Lun walked into the bedroom once again and looked at the boy lying on the brocade bed.
Miller Albert, ten, the second youngest member of the Albert family, the grandson of Baron Thomas Albert, the eldest son of Stephen Albert, the nephew of Bonny and Laura, and the brother of Elizabeth!
The unconscious little boy on the bed had a pale face, a thin body, and thin limbs. Under the large sheets, there was almost no outline of the human body. If it wasn’t for his small head that was exposed outside the blanket, no one who entered the room would have realized that there was a living person lying inside.
Qin Lun sat upright on the wooden stool that Frank had brought over and examined the little fellow carefully. A strange look slowly appeared in his eyes.
The little boy had a little green liquid in his mouth, and his lips and tongue were a little green. He was indeed suffering from that strange plague.
However, unlike the patients Qin Lun had seen in Odia Town, although the little boy was unconscious, his breathing was steady and his heartbeat and pulse were steady and strong. He did not look like a dying patient at all.
In the process of examining Little Miller’s body, Kieran discovered a very interesting place. The little boy actually had bedsores on his back! How long had he been lying in this bed for, like, a month? Two months? Or more than a year …
A strange smile appeared at the corner of Qin Lun’s mouth! This was too interesting! Could it be that this little boy is …
