The Death List Novel - Chapter 257
Chapter 257 Survivors
“Rumble!” A few minutes later, the heavy generator in the hangar rumbled.
“Alright! The magic crystals collected during this period of time should be able to make it work for another day and a half!” A blonde girl jumped off the engineering mecha, patted the generator and said happily.
“Well, then let’s go. The elders and the rest should be waiting anxiously.” Another engineering mecha turned off the explosion-proof light on the robot arm, and a black-haired youth jumped down from inside. He turned on the flashlight with the girl and walked out of the hangar side by side.
“Tang, I heard that the underground resistance organization in the eastern part of the continent has also collapsed. Do you think we can return to our previous lives?” The blonde girl walked out and asked her companion softly.
‘”I don’t know. Several elders said that most of the continent has fallen and is probably under the control of the enemy. Their floating city is very close to the Holy City, but for some reason, they have been waiting tens of kilometers away and haven’t marched towards the Holy City!” The black-haired youth remained silent for a while before replying in a low voice.
“Could it be related to the giant orange shields that appeared in the Holy City this morning?” The blonde girl asked doubtfully.
“That’s possible! It’s a pity that all the saints in the Holy City have already left. Otherwise, we would know what the reason is!” The black-haired youth said gloomily, “Elder Ames said that we should leave as soon as possible. Even the orange-yellow shields seem to have isolated the portal in the base. We can only wait a bit longer, hopefully not drag it out for too long!”
“Tang, have the elders agreed with the humans of Nathan Continent? Are they willing to accept us?” The blonde girl asked softly.
“I’m not sure. Those subhumans insisted that we hand over the mecha technology. The elders originally did not agree, but the situation is becoming more and more urgent. I’m afraid we have no other choice!” The black-haired youth said angrily, “It’s just some sub-humans who dare to make such rude requests …”
‘”Don, they’re just low-tech Beatrice, not sub-humans! And they have a lot of saints to help them …” The blonde girl said bitterly. “Perhaps now, in their eyes, we Atlanteans are sub-humans!”
“Saints” The black-haired youth smashed the steel wall fiercely and panted heavily. “Don’t mention the saints. If it wasn’t for them, how could the Holy City be like this?”
“This has nothing to do with most of the saints. Those intelligent races who mock us are right. The reason why the saints abandoned the Holy City is because our higher echelons have fallen. There is something wrong with our civilized system!” The blonde girl sighed softly.
“… Forget it, what’s the point of saying this now!” The black-haired youth murmured, “Meimei, do you think we still have a chance to return to the Holy City?”
“I don’t think we have a chance. Perhaps our juniors can learn from our lessons and return to Atlantis to retrieve the Holy City!” The blonde girl shook her head with a bitter smile.
The two of them fell silent at the same time and quietly walked through the dark passageway. Moments later, the two of them turned into a spacious passageway and arrived at a steel gate. The gate was about five meters wide and ten meters tall. It looked very heavy, like a dam’s gate.
The black-haired youth walked to the side of the steel gate and opened a hidden compartment. After pressing a few passwords, he greeted the pager inside the compartment.
“Password?” A blurry mechanical sound came from the pager.
“Meg, it’s me. Open the door!” Perhaps because of the previous conversation, the black-haired youth was not in a good mood and angrily shouted at the pager.
“Don, what are you so vicious about Meg? It’s just an intelligent robot!” The blonde girl glared at her companion and whispered something to the pager.
“Kakaka!” After checking the password, the steel gate in front of the two slowly rose, revealing the situation behind the gate.
This was a large warehouse within the base. There were about a hundred Atlantis survivors inside. All sorts of materials were piled up in every corner. It seemed that the weapons and food that were still useful in the base were stored here. The middle of the warehouse was filled with steel wire beds and hammocks used by former soldiers. There were also a few specially isolated cubicles that were used as offices and medical rooms.
Compared to humans on Earth, Atlanteans are much more robust and dominated by white and yellow races. The average height of males was around 1.9 meters, while that of females was around 1.8 meters. Most of them were as handsome as elves. With Atlantis being technologically advanced, it was no wonder that they looked down on other races and thought that they were all sub-humans.
The Atlanteans, who were still awake in the warehouse, only glanced at the blonde girl and the black-haired youth at the entrance. They no longer paid attention to them and dealt with the matters at hand on their own. As it was midnight, most of them were asleep, except for a few sentries standing at the door.
After the blonde girl and the black-haired youth entered the warehouse, an old man dressed in a white priest’s robe walked towards them with a humanoid-skeleton steel robot.
“Elder Ames, Tang and I have repaired the generators in the hangar. The two outsiders who intruded into the base are still trapped in the main control room!” The blonde girl bowed to the old priest and said respectfully.
“Elder, why don’t we just turn on the security system left behind by the General Control Room? If that’s the case, we’ll be able to directly eliminate those two intruders. Judging from their appearances, they definitely aren’t Atlanteans!” The black-haired youth asked doubtfully.
“No, that would expose our existence!” The old man in the priest’s robe frowned and shook his head. “Also … the security system in the control room may not be able to kill those two people. I suspect that they are saints sent by other intelligent races to investigate the Holy City … Eh, Meg, why aren’t the gates closed?”
“There is still a heat source outside the door!” The robot’s electronic eyes flickered as it turned around and said in a muffled voice.
“There’s another heat source?! Not good!” The three Atlantis people who were talking were shocked. The black-haired youth widened his eyes and shouted at the robot, “Maggie, put down the gate immediately!”
“It’s too late!” The old man in the priest’s robe smiled bitterly and pointed at the door. The blonde girl and the black-haired youth turned around and saw a slender figure slowly walking towards the warehouse in a dark passage outside the gate.
“Someone please say the exit order!” The humanoid-skeleton robot picked up the laser rifle in its hand and walked towards the figure in the darkness. A cadence of mechanical sounds sounded from its mouth.
“Haha, this robot’s information processing system is pretty good. It should be equipped with a humanoid brain, right? It seems that Atlantis’s machinery and information technology are even more brilliant than the rumors outside!” A smiling youth slowly walked out of the darkness. With a flip of his hands, he held two classic black-and-white revolvers in his hands.
“Please put down your weapons and accept the inspection … Dudu!”
“Bang! Bang!” Just as the robot was halfway through, the young man immediately opened fire. Two crisp gunshots sounded particularly loud in the dark night, completely shattering the silence in the warehouse.
Two bullets with flowing light instantly destroyed the robot’s electronic eyes. The skull of the robot was raised backwards, and the laser rifle in its hand fired at the same time. A bright laser also struck the young man. However, a fiery red light lit up on the youth’s body, completely canceling out the damage from the laser rifle.
“There are other sensors on this robot? They can actually cancel out the 200-meter-long Sabak Wall. This laser rifle is quite powerful!”
The young man raised his eyebrows slightly and a gentle breeze swept across his body. His figure immediately disappeared from where he was. When it appeared again, it had already flashed onto the robot’s head. Its knees clamped onto the skull of the robot, and with a twist of its waist, the robot’s head was torn off.
“Crackle!” The robot fell to the ground, dancing and dancing. A ball of fire burst out from its broken neck, twitching incessantly on the ground.
“What’s going on …”
“What happened?”
The Atlanteans who were asleep in the warehouse woke up one after another. They poked their heads out of the barbed and hammock and looked over blankly.
Several sentries in charge of guarding the entrance immediately raised their guns and pointed at the invading youth. A cracking sound came from the back of the warehouse, and two tall mechs suddenly stood up. The two mechs were riddled with craters and patches of steel, and they were carrying huge turbomachines in their hands.
However, the young man who broke into the warehouse ignored them. With a flash, he arrived in front of a dining table, grabbed a military kettle, poured it into his mouth, and drank it on his own.
“Put down your guns! Put down your guns! Quickly retreat!” Elder Amris stood in front of the young man, sweating profusely, blocking the barrel of the sentry’s gun and shouting at the two mechs behind the warehouse.
The sentry looked at each other and hesitantly lowered their guns. The two mechs also slowly lowered their turbomachines. The electronic eyes on their heads flickered non-stop, as if the pilots inside were judging the situation before them.
“Elder, is this person … a saint?” The blonde girl approached the old priest and asked in a trembling voice.
The old man nodded and turned to the dumbfounded black-haired youth and blonde girl, saying softly, “I’ll go negotiate with the other party. You go wake the others up. Remember not to let them act rashly. Even with two mechs, we can’t fight a saint who has changed professions!”
After Elder Ames instructed the two of them, he brushed off the priest’s robes and straightened his back as he walked towards the young man.
“Your Excellency Saint, may I ask what we can do for you?” The old priest placed his right hand on his chest and bowed to the young man.
“Saints? Is that what Atlanteans call apostles?” The young man put down the kettle in his hand and smiled. “You can call me Qin Lun. I have some questions for you!”
