The Death List Novel - Chapter 24
Chapter 24 Catherine
“Thomas Albert! A baron?” Qin Lun rubbed his chin and turned around to ask, “Frank, does the baron live nearby?”
‘”Yes, I know. The Baron’s castle is on the outskirts of Odia Town, about twenty miles away from us. In the past, Master Stan used to go shopping in Odia Town and occasionally asked me to help deliver the goods.” Frank recalled and answered seriously that his brain was not very clever, but his memory was decent.
“Then let’s go to Auditoria Town to take a look!” Qin Lun said with a smile.
Auditoria Town was an inland town of decent scale. It was surrounded by three or four villages. Including Auditoria Town, there were a total of more than a thousand people. The terrain is dominated by hillsides and woodlands, and the inhabitants rely mainly on logging and hunting for their livelihoods. The so-called “relying on the mountains to eat the mountains, relying on the forest to eat the forest”, although the standard of living is not rich, but food and clothing is not a problem.
When the two of them arrived at the small town, it was almost afternoon. Although the sun hadn’t set yet, there were few people on the roads of the small town, and it was a bleak scene.
Qin Lun frowned. Since Odia Town had a noble baron, it should be considered the center of this region. Could it be that such a desolate scene had already erupted in the small town?
“Frank, where is the inn?” Qin Lun turned around and asked.
“I don’t know!” Frank scratched his head embarrassedly. When he saw the normal people in the small town, he couldn’t help but feel a strong sense of inferiority. Every time he came, he would lower his head and follow his eyebrows. Whatever Old Stan told him to do, he would do it. He would never look around.
Qin Lun felt helpless. As a master psychologist, he understood Frank’s inferiority complex. This sense of inferiority had accumulated over the years, and it was not something that could be dispelled in a short period of time. Since Frank couldn’t lead the way, he could only slowly search for the inn along the middle road of Odia Town. Under normal circumstances, the inn in a small town wouldn’t deviate too far from the main road.
In fact, the two of them only walked for fifteen minutes before they saw two side-by-side inns. Qin Lun pushed open the door of the first inn, and a loud noise rang in his ears.
Compared to the desolate scene outside the inn, the inn did not seem to be affected at all. The lobby was filled with people. There were very few empty seats. Most of them seemed to be residents of the town. They were holding their wine glasses and talking loudly. Shuttling between the seats was the beautiful geisha of Flowing Orioles, laughing and cheering. The two of them did not attract anyone’s attention when they entered the door.
Behind the bar of the inn stood a large middle-aged man with a broad face. He was wiping the bar with a rag. Seeing another guest enter, he frowned and sent a waitress over.
“The two of you are … Eh!” The young waitress had just taken two steps forward when, before she could finish her sentence, she discovered that the young gentleman leading the group had already turned around and left the room. The big hunchbacked man wearing a mask behind him was even silent as he followed closely behind with a small suitcase in his hand.
“Tsk, amazing!” The waitress muttered discontentedly and angrily turned around.
After Qin Lun left the inn, he immediately walked towards the inn behind him. The business of the second hotel was obviously not as good as that of the first. The lobby was only filled with about one-third of the customers, and most of them were older residents.
The innkeeper was a middle-aged woman of some age, and the furnishings were rather old. As for those hostesses, not only were there a lot fewer than the first hotel, they also looked much older. Clearly, the two platoon-operated hotels had already decided the winner.
Although he did not know the situation of the guest room, he could tell at a glance that the hotel was much worse than the first one. However, Qin Lun revealed a satisfied expression. He took off his gloves and leaned against the bar.
“Young sir, you look very unfamiliar. Are you here for a drink or a stay?” The half-old lady boss asked with a charming smile. Although her face was covered in makeup, the crow’s tail patterns at the corners of her eyes could not stop her true age.
Qin Lun smiled faintly. The boss lady’s inquiry seemed to be a little cautious. It was estimated that it had been a long time since she had seen a young man dressed in decent clothes like him.
“I’m Dr. Stan. Give me and my entourage two clean rooms and bring some food. My entourage eats a lot and has more meat!” Qin Lun took out a silver coin from his pocket and handed it over.
The owner’s eyes lit up. This silver coin had the head of the Duke of Maize printed on it. It was a kind of currency with a high silver content. This silver coin was already equivalent to her usual daily turnover. It seemed that her luck today was pretty good.
“Dear sir, what else do you need?” The lady boss stretched out her slightly fat white palm and pressed down on the silver coin. Her middle finger obscured the back of Qin Lun’s hand and teased him softly, “Do you want me to arrange a beautiful girl for you?”
Qin Lun narrowed his eyes slightly and leaned closer to the bar counter. He patted the boss lady’s plump little hand and also instructed softly, “Then I’ll have to trouble the boss lady! However, it’s best to find me a more mature old lady, not those inexperienced little girls!”
“I guarantee your satisfaction!” The lady boss smiled mysteriously and waved her fat butt. She summoned a shop assistant and brought Qin Lun and the other two to the guest room on the second floor.
“Young Master, actually … it’s good that I live in a firewood shed or a horse shed. There’s no need to waste money like this!” After the shop assistant left, Frank looked at the clean guest room and felt a little embarrassed.
“It doesn’t matter. I need an attendant to practice medicine in the town in the future. The attendant of the doctor can’t always sleep in the woodshed!” Qin Lun smiled and patted the shoulder of the hunchback servant, sending Frank away. He turned around and looked at his guest room.
The room was cleanly cleaned, but it smelled a little musty. Auditoria Town was surrounded by hills and woods. It was in a low-lying flat land, and there was often mist and heavy moisture.
However, there was a musty smell in the guest rooms of the inn, which also showed that the business of the inn was not very good.
“Bang bang bang bang!” As night slowly enveloped Odia Town, Qin Lun, who was lying in bed and sleeping, heard a knock on the door.
Qin Lun got up, smiled and opened the door. He couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows when he saw the person at the door. He hadn’t expected it to be this person. It seemed that someone had misunderstood him.
“Why, respected Dr. Stan, don’t you invite me in?” Half-old Xu Niang’s charming eyes were like silk as her fair and plump arms gently placed on Qin Lun’s shoulders.
Unlike when she was at the bar in the afternoon, the lady boss changed into a pink off-the-shoulder dress. Her originally crow-tailed face had obviously been carefully dressed, and she did not look the slightest bit old. The upper rim of the off-the-shoulder skirt was swollen to the point of splitting, revealing a deep daydreaming groove and two snow-white tender balls.
Compared to the young and beautiful bar girls in the first inn, although she was a little older, her figure was not out of shape. Furthermore, she had a plump and fleshy body. She dressed up meticulously and had a different charm.
“Haha, I didn’t expect the lady boss to come personally to entertain me. Please come in!” Qin Lun looked up and down with admiration, but there was no ripple in his heart.
“Aren’t you looking for a mature old lady? Don’t tell me Catherine doesn’t suit you?”
Catherine, the landlady of the inn, was delighted that she was not refused the door. Although her tone was questioning, she first glued herself to Qin Lun and half leaned on the young man’s shoulder, pressing his arm tightly between the towering peaks.
Qin Lun smiled bitterly and rubbed his forehead with his empty hand. He supported Xu Niang, who was almost lying on his body, and sat down on the edge of the bed.
Looking at a pair of misty peach blossom eyes, Qin Lun flipped his hand and a gold coin appeared on his fingertips.
“Handsome Dr. Stan, don’t worry. Let Catherine serve you first!” The boss lady’s eyes lit up. The charm of the gold coins made her wake up from the high emotions and desires she had just had.
However, this time, the half-old Xu Niang, who had a different embrace, did not take the gold coins. Instead, she placed Qin Lun’s hand on her snow-white and soft chest and slowly fell towards the young man.
“No, this gold coin is to inquire about something from the beautiful lady boss!” Qin Lun sighed. Facing the hungry boss lady, he couldn’t continue to play the riddle. He took advantage of her waking up and quickly told her his true intentions.
“Oh?” Catherine, the landlady of the inn, was stunned for a moment and sat up straight.
“Dear Catherine, do you know the surname Stan?” In order not to make the lady boss angry, Qin Lun revealed a charming smile. He held the gold coins in his left hand and stuffed them into Catherine’s deep cleavage. His right hand tightly hugged the woman’s plump waist.
“Stan … seems to have heard of it!” A charming smile appeared on Catherine’s dumbfounded face. She twisted her body and put her full chest back on Qin Lun’s arm.
“My father, Stan, is a businessman who often comes to town. However, my grandfather …” Qin Lun’s eyes lit up and he said with a hint.
“Oh, I remember! Mr. Stan seems to be a famous doctor who lives in the woodlands on the northern slope of the town, but his son seems to have given up practicing medicine. Are you Mr. Stan’s grandson?” Catherine finally picked up some distant old memories.
‘”Yes, I am successful in medicine now. I want to inherit my grandfather’s career. I heard that there seems to be an epidemic in the town. I want to do my best to help the townsfolk and obtain a medical license!” Qin Lun heaved a sigh of relief and continued to smile, “I wonder if my dear Miss Catherine can help me!”
“How do you want me to help you?” When the lady boss heard Qin Lun call her Miss Catherine, she was so happy that the flowers trembled and her tall chest shook until the youth’s eyes were snow white.
“Tell me everything about the epidemic in town! Also, do you know a man named Stephen Albert?” Qin Lun asked with a smile.
“I know a lot of gossip. It seems that someone is blocking the news of the epidemic!” Catherine frowned. “As for Stephen Albert … he’s the eldest son of Baron Thomas Albert. He seems to have passed away more than a year ago! Why are you asking him?”
“He’s already dead?!”
