The Death List Novel - Chapter 22
Chapter 22 Cause Of Death
“Hachou! Hachou!” Frank sneezed bitterly as he followed his master’s instructions and rubbed his body over and over again until his skin was completely red and his ragged linen shirt washed once before he was allowed to go ashore again.
After landing, except for his wet hair and beard, which still looked like a homeless man, the fishy stench of sweat disappeared from Frank’s body. However, his face was ashen and pale, a little like a dead person, and his entire body was trembling, as if he was going to faint.
Qin Lun raised his eyebrows in surprise. Although it was night, the season was not cold. He had also descended the stream, and he did not feel very cold. Although Frank was a little disabled, he was accustomed to working hard, so his body should not be so weak.
“Cough cough” Frank covered his mouth and coughed violently under the attack of the icy stream water. An abnormal flush appeared on his face.
Qin Lun’s pupils constricted. Although Frank quickly put his hand behind him, he could already see the trace of blood in the slits of the hunchback servant’s fingers through the moonlight.
Qin Lun stepped forward and grabbed Frank’s right wrist, sensing his pulse. Frank struggled a few times, but when he saw his master’s stern gaze, he shrank his neck and quieted down.
Releasing Frank’s wrist, Qin Lun frowned slightly. The hunchbacked servant’s pulse was extremely weak. If there was nothing, it was almost like he was dying. However, in Wellington’s remaining memories, Frank had always been an impression of a powerful monster.
Looking at Frank’s miserable appearance, Qin Lun’s heart trembled slightly. In the past, even though Wellington did not usually care about this loyal servant, as a doctor, his servant’s health should attract his attention. It seemed that Frank’s body had changed after Wellington’s death.
Qin Lun closed his eyes and searched through Wellington’s remaining memories for clues. A moment later, he opened his eyes again. There was indeed no clue to Frank’s physical condition in Wellington’s memories, but Qin Lun had found the cause of Wellington’s death.
As an unlicensed young doctor, Wellington rarely visits patients. However, in the recent period of time, this was an exception. There was a serious epidemic in several small towns near Wellington’s residence. Many of the poor people in the town looked down on regular doctors and could only seek treatment from the inexperienced Wellington.
However, it was clear that not only did Wellington’s poor medical skills fail to cure these patients, but he also contracted the disease and died in the end. Frank rarely came into contact with patients. His illness was probably contracted when he was taking care of Wellington.
Thinking back to this plague, Qin Lun had a cautious expression on his face. The morbidity and mortality of this disease are very high and the rate of onset is very fast. The patient had a high fever on the first day and coughed up blood on the second day. There was no abnormality on the surface of his body, but his internal organs had already started to rot. He would die on the third day.
Based on the medical knowledge he had read, Qin Lun was definitely at the MD level. However, the books he read were all from Earth, and in this strange world, it was impossible to determine the type of disease and its treatment.
In Wellington’s memories, this was not the first time the disease had appeared in a small town. It had spread in the past, often appearing and disappearing quickly, and it was not as infectious as it was now.
It was already the third day since Wellington’s death! The fact that Frank was able to survive until now and cough up blood showed that his physique was indeed much stronger than that of a normal person.
On the other hand … a strange expression appeared on Qin Lun’s face. This was probably due to the effects of the medical alcohol. The concentration of medical alcohol mixed with water should drop below 75%, but it tastes at least 40%. This concentration had a disinfectant effect and delayed the onset of Frank’s illness.
As for why this ignorant hunchback hadn’t been poisoned to death by the medical alcohol, Qin Lun guessed that either this kind of medical alcohol wasn’t qualified, or Frank’s stomach had been “tested” and tempered.
If he didn’t save him, Frank wouldn’t be able to last for two days! Qin Lun hesitated for a moment before making a decision. No matter what, he needed a helper now, and his loyal servant Frank was the best candidate.
Qin Lun turned the wine jug upside down, ignoring the resentment in the eyes of the hunchbacked servant, he poured out all the alcohol mixed with water, went to the side of the stream to wash it, and poured some water into it. Then, he took out the crystal bottle containing the World Tree Flower Dew from his bosom, opened the bottle cork, and gently dripped a drop of flower dew into it.
“Drink it, don’t leave it behind!” Qin Lun handed the wine jug back to the servant and ordered with a serious face.
“Oh … it smells so good!” Frank put his garlic nose close to the mouth of the wine pot and sniffed, then drank the World Tree Dew diluted with stream water in one mouthful.
“Do you feel anything?” Qin Lun’s eyes were burning as he looked at the hunchbacked servant. He was very interested in the effects of the World Tree Dew.
‘”I don’t feel anything” Frank smacked his big mouth. Halfway through his sentence, his expression changed drastically. His throat shrugged, his cheeks bulged, and he leaned over to vomit.
“Gulu, Gulu!” Not only did the hunchbacked ugly man vomit endlessly, even his abdomen seemed to have an adverse reaction. He immediately covered his stomach and ran towards the bushes by the stream. As an adult, even if he didn’t care about his image, he didn’t want to take off his pants directly in front of Qin Lun.
“This reaction seems to be a little intense!” Qin Lun muttered to himself. He lowered his head and glanced at Frank’s vomit. Immediately, he frowned again. “It doesn’t look like a parasite. This epidemic …”
That pile of dirty vomit was mixed with many strands of blood. The strangest thing was that some dark green jelly-like unknown substance inside was actually squirming slightly. It looked like a small ball of Shrem.
“Young Master, what did you give me to drink?”
After a while, Frank walked out of the woods. Compared to before, his face was as pale as a dead man’s.
“How are you feeling?” Qin Lun put his hand on Frank’s wrist again. The hunchback servant’s pulse was still a little weak, but it was much more stable than before.
“I don’t have any strength, but my body seems to be much more relaxed.” Frank replied weakly, “Young Master, your medicine is too powerful!”
Qin Lun nodded noncommittally. Logically speaking, “World Tree Dew” was a plant life essence. After being consumed by the human body, it should slowly strengthen the body’s recovery and immunity, and would not suddenly become a powerful excretory medicine.
The current effect was most likely due to the “virus” in Frank’s body, which had a huge conflict with the essence of Hua Lu’s life, causing the hunchbacked ugly man to vomit and diarrhea. Although “World Tree Dew” did not work, it allowed Frank to eliminate most of the “viruses”, which could be considered a distortion.
Qin Lun glanced at the hunchbacked servant who was on the verge of collapse. He sighed softly, pulled out the cork of the crystal bottle, and dripped a drop into the wine jug.
Save the person to the end, send Buddha to the west! Since he had already paid a drop of World Tree Dew, he couldn’t let the poison in Frank’s body relapse. Besides, there were still a lot of things that Frank had to do next. Why was he still running errands like this? Qin Lun didn’t have time to wait for him to slowly recover.
“Go to the river and fill it with water. You’re not well yet. If you don’t want to die, drink a mouthful of the medicine in the pot every hour.” Qin Lun handed the wine jug back to Frank. “When you can continue on your journey, we’ll go back!”
It had to be said that Frank’s foundation was indeed not bad. Of course, it was also possible that the second drop of World Tree Dew had finally played its due role. The hunchbacked servant’s complexion quickly recovered. After only half an hour of rest, he was refreshed.
“Young Master Wellington, let’s go home. Frank feels his strength back!” The hunchbacked servant stood up and excitedly pinched his knuckles before leading the way.
At this moment, the horizon began to shine. A ray of dawn dispelled the haze in the forest cemetery and hung on the treetops of the small forest.
Wellington’s house was about five to six miles away from the forest cemetery. It was situated on a small hillside, and the terrain was relatively high. It just so happened to overlook a small town not far away that was shrouded in morning mist.
This was a two-storey wooden and stone building. From afar, it looked quite elegant and unique. However, when they came close, they could see that the outer walls of the small building were mottled, and the corners of the walls were covered with moss and grass, giving off a shabby scene.
[Beep ~ ~ Warning, the environment here is different from the living conditions of this world. Please leave as soon as possible, otherwise the Law Body will fall into a state of continuous damage!]
The message from the death list caused Qin Lun’s expression to change slightly. He grabbed the hunchback servant leading the way and narrowed his eyes to look at the small building again.
“Give me the wine jug. Stay here!” Qin Lun took out a silk handkerchief from his vest pocket, sprinkled some diluted flower dew on it, covered his nose and mouth, and pushed open the wooden door of the small building.
The furnishings in the small building were rather crude. Several portraits of people hung on the walls of the corridor. These were the ancestors of the Stan Clan. In Grandpa Wellington’s generation, the Stan Clan was actually quite a prestigious Apricot Forest Clan in this region. Unfortunately, Wellington’s father had no interest in studying medicine and ran off to do business. As a result, he ran into a continuous deficit and lost all of his family’s wealth.
After Wellington’s father died, Little Wellington had no choice but to sell his furniture to support himself and continue his medical studies. In fact, this young man’s medical skills weren’t as inferior as Qin Lun had imagined. At the very least, he still had the Stan Clan’s talent in surgery.
Of course, it had something to do with Frank going to the cemetery from time to time to steal corpses for him to dissect and learn.
Unfortunately, after all, Wellington was inexperienced and barely managed to cure those infected with the disease. He finally let himself die before he could finish his studies, completely severing the bloodline of the Stan Clan.
Qin Lun followed Wellington’s memories and quickly ran to the bedroom on the second floor. He took out a small cloth bag from the hidden compartment of his desk and put it into his pocket. Then, he ran downstairs again, opened the secret door of a small storage room, and walked along the wooden stairs into the basement of the small building.
This was Wellington’s medical laboratory, his operating room, and his autopsy table!
