The Death List Novel - Chapter 17
Chapter 17 Apostolic Paradise
Qin Lun glanced at the elf indifferently. He stretched out his palm and spread it out in front of him, revealing the small skull pattern with scarlet flames flickering in his eyes.
“Please forgive Malfoy for offending me. I have never seen an official apostle’s soul mark. Thank you for satisfying my curiosity!” Malfoy smiled more kindly and bowed slightly on the horse to show his apology.
Qin Lun smiled. When Gerd was negotiating with the elves, Malfoy looked at him in astonishment. It was obvious that he was here to seek confirmation. The so-called curiosity was just an excuse for the elves. How could an important figure sent over by the floating city to receive the preparatory apostles have never seen a soul mark?
As Malfoy bowed, Qin Lun’s gaze crossed Malfoy’s shoulder and landed on an emerald crossbow on his back. This crossbow was exquisite and small, and it was emerald green as a whole, like a kingfisher with its wings spread out.
Compared to the large and sturdy bows behind the other elves in the horse team, this crossbow not only looked somewhat different, but also had a very short crossbow arm. It was unknown how powerful it would be.
Malfoy Molia quickly sensed Qin Lun’s gaze. A gentle smile appeared on her handsome face. She stretched out her right hand and took off the Emerald Crossbow and handed it to Qin Lun.
“This is the heirloom of our Moria Clan. If you like crossbows, I will send someone to deliver one to you after you return to the Forest of Moonlight as an apology!”
This exquisite crossbow had a resplendent green light flowing on its surface. It was as if it had its own soul. Qin Lun only played with it for a moment before handing it back to Malfoy again. He smiled and said, “No need, I don’t use the crossbow. I just admire it!”
The short journey soon came to an end, and the elven cavalry escorted the twelve preparatory apostles to the bottom of the moonlight forest. Looking closely at the floating city, everyone realized what kind of colossus it was.
Not to mention the transparent shield that covered the sky, even the steel fence that was tightly wrapped around the base in the middle was almost comparable to the tall city walls of the ancient Xiong City. At the bottom of the city, however, it was not the steel creature that everyone initially thought it was, but layers of thick, pillar-like plant roots wrapped around each other, condensing into a green pedestal.
When everyone arrived, the roots of the plants on the pedestal slowly wriggled and weaved a wide green corridor downwards. It was enough for four horses to run in parallel. Even the rhinoceros beasts Qin Lun and the others were riding could enter side by side. It could be said to be extremely miraculous.
After the prisoners walked out of the corridor, they discovered that they were facing a gravel path. The gravel path stretched into a large forest filled with life. In the tall canopies on both sides, some young elves were sticking out their heads and staring at their new arrivals with cute big eyes.
In the forest, birds sang and flowers bloomed. All kinds of rare birds and exotic beasts would occasionally flee in front of the group. These little things didn’t seem to be afraid of strangers at all. Often stopped without alertness and tilted their heads to observe the humans in the team, giving the prisoners a strange feeling that they had become zoo exhibits.
One of the rare beasts, an unknown stag with pink plum blossoms on its body, even bravely blocked the elven horses. After being driven away by the elven guards, it reluctantly took arrogant steps and disappeared into the depths of the forest.
As the team went deeper into the forest, Qin Lun and the others saw the elven tree house built in the canopy. These wooden houses were simple in shape and did not destroy the original structure of the trees as much as possible, presenting a natural beauty.
The beautiful moments were always short. When the sound of water came from the front of the team, everyone realized that they had already passed through the forest and appeared at the edge of the sky-blue lake.
Malfoy Moria had been observing the prisoners’ expressions in the procession. Every time Moonlight Forest welcomed the preparatory apostles, he would take them through the forest encampment. There was a profound meaning in this.
When these alien visitors first saw this beautiful and peaceful environment, many people would unconsciously reveal some of their inner emotions.
The elves were able to assess which prepared apostles liked the environment and which apostles coveted the exotic beasts in the forest. Thus, a corresponding policy was formulated to enhance the apostles’ recognition of the moonlight forest.
“Do we not live in the forest?” Qin Lun asked with some regret.
In his life, he had never been in contact with nature since he sensed it. He entered the Children’s Welfare Institute at the age of eight and could only look up at the birds flying in the narrow sky above the small courtyard. He entered a psychiatric hospital at the age of twelve and was quickly transferred to a juvenile detention center and a severe punishment prison. From then on, he could only face the four walls of the pale and empty cell.
Hearing Qin Lun’s question, Malfoy’s smile became even more joyful as he explained in detail, “We elves love to be close to nature, live a simple life, and eat a simple diet.” Most of the apostles preferred to enjoy life because they were always on the verge of death. To this end, Moonlight Forest has built a special apostolic paradise at the bottom of Moonlight Lake as a residence for distinguished guests. ”
As the two of them talked softly, Qin Lun quickly saw a semi-circular glass passage about ten meters wide and five meters high on the right side of the lake. Through the glass walls of the passageway, everyone could even see all sorts of strange-looking water fish, as well as other colorful underwater plants.
Although the tunnel was quite long, even the most obedient prisoner didn’t show any signs of impatience when he was able to enjoy such a wondrous world beneath the lake. In the blink of an eye, the two-kilometer-long tunnel had already reached its end. A small town similar to the medieval era appeared in front of the prisoners.
The small town was conveniently supported by a thick layer of glass. The sunlight penetrated through the pure and translucent lake water and refracted into the small town, leaving behind winding streaks of light on the ground. The entire environment looked quiet and remote.
“This is the Apostolic Paradise?”
Most of the houses in the town were relatively low and were basically wooden structures. Qin Lun reached out and touched the wall of a wooden house beside him. A cool feeling immediately entered his palm. The wood was very hard and had simple textures on its surface. It looked like the entire town was antique and filled with serenity and elegance.
“Is it different from the so-called paradise in your world?” Malfoy revealed a mysterious smile. “You will soon understand the meaning of the so-called paradise! However, please follow me now. After all the distinguished guests have settled down, if you like, I can guide you around the town.”
“Please call me Qin Lun!” Qin Lun nodded with interest.
“As you wish, you can also call me by my name!” Malfoy smiled gracefully with a hint of joy in his eyes.
To Moonlight Forest, everything that Qin Lun had shown so far was very satisfactory. His temperament was indifferent, he loved nature, and his manner was refined. He was the only official apostle among the twelve transmigrators who had obtained a soul imprint.
Malfoy Moria sometimes had the illusion that the man in front of her, who was always smiling, was not an alien, but a member of the Fairy Race.
As the crowd arrived at the outskirts of the town, the elven guards began to break up their ranks. The twelve preparatory apostles were taken to their respective residences, and Malfoy was personally in charge of guiding Qin Lun. Of course, the elves still asked the apostles in a friendly manner for their opinions, allowing the prospective apostles who wished to stay in the same room to use the same wooden house.
In front of these wooden houses on the outskirts of the town, there were elven guards patrolling back and forth. Malfoy explained that there were also some senior official apostles in the town. Most of the apostles had different temperaments and acted their own way. The establishment of a number of guard points would help to reduce unnecessary friction between the incoming preparatory apostles and the senior apostles.
“Qin Lun, what should we do with the guests behind you?” Malfoy could already tell that Lin Feng, Xiaolian, and Little Brother Brindisi were all led by Qin Lun, so he immediately asked.
“Apart from this little fellow, the other two should do as they please!” Qin Lun glanced at the three of them and immediately replied with a smile.
Hearing this, Lin Feng felt as if he had been granted an amnesty and immediately left with one of the elven guards beside him. The young master of the aristocratic family was worried that he would be scared until now. Finally, there was a kind of dragon returning to the sea, and he was free to do as he pleased. As for Xiaolian, after hesitating for a while, he chose to continue following Qin Lun and was arranged by the elven guards to a small wooden house near Qin Lun’s residence.
Qin Lun’s wooden house was a two-storey elegant wooden building. On the ground floor was a living room with wooden chairs and toilet utensils. There was a small fireplace embedded in the wall facing the door.
The second floor was the bedroom, and the furnishings were simpler. The small window at the head of the bed was tied with exquisite fragmentary curtains. The sheets and blankets felt strange, not silk or hemp. They were made of plant fibers that Qin Lun had never seen before.
There was also a small pavilion on the top of the bedroom. Originally, it was used to store debris. Now, it was estimated that it would be cleared out and used as a shelter for Little Brother Brindisi.
Qin Lun only rested in his room for a moment before he heard Malfoy’s call from downstairs. The elves were here to fulfill their promise and take Qin Lun around the town.
Little Brother Brindisi’s physique was weak, and he was already exhausted after running all the way, so he could only stay in the wooden house and rest in grievance. Qin Lun followed Malfoy into this unique apostolic paradise.
As the two of them went deeper into the town, Qin Lun discovered that the wooden houses in the town had slowly changed from simple residential buildings to large castle-like buildings. Of course, due to the restriction of the Moonlight Lake above them, these castles were relatively low, and the tallest ones were only three or four floors.
“This town is called Moonshine Town. The outer perimeter is basically the residential area of the apostles. The middle level is the entertainment area with bars, exchanges, auction houses, and other entertainment facilities.” Malfoy introduced Qin Lun with a smile.
“Actually, the most important core area of Moonlight Forest is in the inner layer of Moonlight Town. Although Moonlight Forest is only a small floating city of our Fairy race, outsiders do not know that it is one of the two most important academy cities of the Fairy race. The greatest academy of the Fairies, Evelyn Polarlys Academy, is in Moonshine Town!
