478: Someday Once Again (5)
Why did you make that decision without even talking to us?”
Sarah looked angry and sad.
Maybe it was even a bit of both. However, Jamie wasn’t taken aback by her sudden actions.
To come all this way and show this kind of reaction meant she had found out everything.
‘Gaia, that one.’
He begged her not to say anything. Since when did she tell her?
Jamie sighed, trying to figure out what to say to Sarah. But even after thinking about it, the answer didn’t come.
He should have known what to say, but he couldn’t say anything now.
“Why aren’t you talking?”
Sarah looked like she would cry, and Jamie hated it.
He didn’t want to make anyone cry. If he had quietly left, everything would have worked out.
But the water had been spilled.
Now that Sarah had found out, there was no way she would let him go.
“Sarah?”
“Why does it have to be Brother? Why does it have to be you? Why you, of all people?”
“If you had heard about it, then you should know why.”
“Since I heard it, I don’t understand it at all. Why is Brother sacrificing himself?”
At the word sacrifice, Jamie went silent. Sarah burst into tears and let out an angry tone.
“Why does my brother have to go back to the past and correct history?! We can just live like this and think about other things later.”
“Because it will get difficult with time.”
“Then you can just let it go to ruin…. This land will stay until our lives end. Then, as nature will take…”
“You know I won’t be happy with that.”
“Then what about me and Mom? What about us?”
“It will be hard for a while, but one moment at a time. Everything will be fine.”
“Selfish! In a world where the future has changed, Brother will not exist right from the start, so how will we be fine? It will be horrible… I won’t know you. It’s too much. Brother Jamie…”
Jamie closed his eyes.
This was the reason he didn’t want to tell anyone about it. Everyone would only be left with scars, which was why he wanted to see them smiling for the last time.
But this still happened as if it were meant to be.
Then he thought back on the conversation he had with Gaia a few hours ago.
“Is there another way?”
“Yes.”
He could prevent the destruction of the universe, which no longer had a pillar.
Jamie had no reason not to listen.
“What method is that?”
“Better than being a pillar and suffering but it is a method based on sacrifice.”
“So it isn’t a good way.”
“But the results are better.”
Jamie tilted his head when he heard the result would be better.
“In what part?”
“It is a sin to tell this, but it would help clear up the mistakes I had made.”
“Your mistakes?”
After thinking for a moment, Jamie realized what she was talking about and looked interested.
“Is this related to the current universe?”
“Right.”
“What kind of method is it that allows you to interfere with the root of everything?”
Even with the power of the pillar, he couldn’t guess what Gaia was aiming for. Gaia looked worried as she carefully said,
“Change the past.”
Jamie’s expression went stiff.
“You realize what that means, right?”
Changing the past meant going back to the time of the problem and fixing it before it happened.
One wouldn’t know how many side effects would come from doing that. It was like burning a house to catch a bug.
“It will change the entire history.”
It would be a hundred times better than being the new pillar.
“If only things would be simple enough to do that.”
“What do you mean?”
“Use my strength so that everyone’s fate is different from now.”
Jamie’s eyes widened.
Gaia, who had lost all her power from the pillar, didn’t have as much power as before, but she was still the creator of the universe.
But Jamie was a little skeptical.
“You can interfere with the fate of not just one or two, but an entire universe? Without using the pillar?”
“I can’t use the pillar, but it isn’t impossible for me if I sacrifice myself.”
He didn’t think the word sacrifice would come from her mouth. She must have felt it was right for her to do that, but choosing to sacrifice oneself wasn’t an easy option, no matter how strong one was.
Others would have avoided doing it, but not Gaia. Rather, her two sad eyes showed she was determined.
Jamie shook his head with an understanding face.
“Certainly, then there would be no problem even if we changed the past. But is this fine? In the end, you will disappear.”
Gaia was someone who wouldn’t hesitate to do horrible things to protect the world, which is why she was willing to give up everything.
“If we hesitate, the world rots. If it rots further, I don’t know what I will do. Then, wouldn’t it be more beneficial to be the food for this world? The problem is not me but you.”
Gaia pointed to Jamie, as she said,
“I will die and vanish, but you… you will end up suffering for a long time. It is better than being locked within the pillar all your life. But honestly, it is a lot more difficult. Above all, you will not exist in this world.”
Jamie Welton was born when fate got twisted in order to oppose Ra.
So if the past could be changed, then his fate would disappear.
No family, friends, no one to remember him.
Everyone who had ties with him would disappear, and Jamie would no longer exist as Jamie.
“I will fully respect your choice.”
Gaia suggested another way, but she didn’t want to force it on him. It was just another option.
“Even if you end the universe, I will support you.”
Jamie didn’t answer her as he closed his eyes, lost in thought. And after making a decision, he opened his eyes.
“I will…”
“I want everyone in this world to be happy.”
Jamie looked straight into Sarah’s eyes.
“Even if this choice is selfish, like you said, if everyone can be happy at my expense and if your children and descendants can make a world where they can live freely, I will make the same choice a hundred, no, a thousand times again.”
“Brother…”
“It will be painful, sad, and lonely. It would be like that if you were forgotten by everyone. However, there are more important things than that.”
Jamie approached his crying sister and wiped her tears.
Without saying anything, Sarah just felt her brother’s touch on her.
“Listen to Mom and Dad. Make a lot of friends, and don’t just date random people.”
“What is that even…”
“Eat every meal and don’t skip training. Because health is important.”
“…”
“I really wanted to see you get married, but it’s a pity that it won’t happen. Do you think Father felt like this?”
“You can just not go… Don’t do it, Brother, please.”
“Sarah. My pretty sister.”
Jamie hugged her as she continued to weep in her brother’s arms. Hearing her cry, Jamie gently stroked the back of her head.
“One day.”
Emotions were surging within him, as Jamie bit his lower lip, holding back his sadness, and said,
“Someday, we will meet again.”
“Brother!”
Jamie’s body slowly began to turn transparent, which made Sarah hug him tighter, but the body she was holding was fading away.
She didn’t want to let go, no matter the cause, so she used Gaia’s holy power to hold him, but it was just pointless.
Then Sarah spoke in a desperate voice,
“Brother, don’t! Please! Please don’t leave me! Please…!”
Jamie kissed her on the forehead with the last words,
“Until then, be well.”
“NO!”
Sarah’s body leaned forward, and her hands only touched the ground, making her look up.
Her brother was gone.
“Brother! Brother Jamie!”
Sarah ran all over the place, shouting his name, but there was no answer. She searched for a long time, but her brother was nowhere to be found.
The moment Sarah sat down on the ground with a frustrated look, the entire Welton family house shone in light.
And she knew what it meant.
“No. I don’t want to forget Brother! I don’t want to forget!”
A burst of light engulfed Sarah.
History began to change.
