After Maisy heated her meal, she began to eat. Although the food was supposed to be tasty, it felt like she was chewing on tasteless wax.
She forced herself to finish every bite of her meal so that her stomach would feel full and headed to the living room. She turned the TV on, and the finance channel came up. Surprisingly, she saw Jay being interviewed on the screen.
Maisy kept staring at the screen, completely lost in thought to the point where she didn’t notice the program had concluded. She slowly leaned her head back and rested it on the couch, looking at the ceiling while her imagination ran wild.
When Jay got home, he noticed that Maisy was still staring blankly at the ceiling.
It was as if things had gotten boring for her. She got up and was about to look for something to pass her time with, only to realize that there was no housework for her to do.
It was only then that she realized that Jay had returned.
She welcomed him back with a smile, took the coat from him, and hung it on the rack.
“You know, I did say you can’t find a job, but I didn’t say you aren’t allowed to go outside,” Jay said.
Maisy’s eyes widened as she looked at Jay in a new color.
Up to that point, Jay had been treating her very well. Not only did he feed her and helped pay for her grandfather’s medical bill, but he even allowed her to go out and have fun.
Maisy was so excited that she lifted herself up a little and kissed him on the cheek.
Jay was stunned by her sudden action. The soft feeling still lingered on his cheek, and his heart began to race. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t seem to calm down.
“Thank you! I have a gathering party tomorrow with my classmates,” Maisy said with a faint smile.
Before she could even react, Jay pulled her into his arms. She could smell the faint wood-like aroma on him, and she liked it a lot.
“So, how are you going to thank me?” The man gently lifted the lady’s head by her chin with his finger.
Maisy, with her head raised, leaned in and kissed him. As their lips tangled, they could feel each other’s breaths on their faces and in their mouths. Jay was hugging her so tightly that she almost thought he wanted her to be a part of him.
She was glad that the party was at night. If it was in the morning, she would never have made it with her exhausted body.
As caring as Jay was, he had a wardrobe full of new clothes for Maisy. Even though she had no idea what brands they were, she felt comfortable wearing them.
Maisy chose a light-blue fishtail skirt that showed off her curves and applied a layer of light makeup on her face.
As she was always busy with her part-time work, her relationship with her classmates wasn’t the closest. She had missed a lot of parties. She really hoped that she could at least get to know her classmates better by attending the party.
When Maisy finally arrived, most of her classmates were already seated. She found herself a seat in the corner.
“Oh? Isn’t this our ice queen, Maisy Owen? What brings you here?” Katie Steward, one of Maisy’s classmates, mocked. She even purposely raised her arm so that her long-sleeve would pull back a little to show the five-digit watch she was wearing.
“Katie!” another classmate exclaimed. “Isn’t that a limited-edition watch? I heard it costs more than $10,000!”
With a proud expression, Katie glanced at Maisy and let out a scoff. “You’re right. I’m sure there’s someone who has never seen such expensive things, right?” She laughed.
Everyone turned to look at Maisy at the same time. It was common knowledge among their class that Katie always made fun of Maisy.
As Maisy’s hardworking attitude had garnered the attention of their instructors, people like Katie, who came from rich families, hated someone like her. They always believed that people who were born poor should stay poor.
Maisy decided to ignore the group of people who were making fun of her. As she ate, her sleeve rolled back a little and revealed the tiny bracelet she was wearing.
The classmate sitting next to Maisy noticed the bracelet and recognized it. It was a recent limited-edition bracelet from an expensive brand and was something that the classmate had always wanted but couldn’t afford.
She immediately grabbed Maisy’s hand and pulled it up to show everyone the bracelet.
“Seriously? Is there still someone who wears fake products just to pretend they have money?”
