Maisy tried to get up, but her body was aching all over as if she was just run over by a bus.
The person who was responsible for the pain was lying next to her. The lady grunted and mumbled, thinking that Jay was still fast asleep. Little did she know was that the man was looking at each of her little movements all the time.
“What did you say? Why don’t you say it louder?” Jay suddenly asked.
Maisy immediately shut her mouth tight and tried to get up once again despite the pain. However, she only managed to get up a little before collapsing back onto the bed. She couldn’t summon her strength any longer and gave up.
“Get some more rest. The maid will bring our lunch over later.” Jay smiled.
Maisy nodded, thinking that Jay was quite the caring person as well. He knew that she was feeling pain all over her body and told her to rest. She was starting to believe that Jay wasn’t as cold-hearted as he seemed.
When the maid brought the food over, Maisy realized that they were all dishes she loved. She was drooling so hard that she had completely forgotten about her aching body and started to devour lunch before going back to bed.
It seemed as if Jay had decided to work from home that day, but a few hours in, he got a call and left.
Since Maisy was feeling unwell, she lay on the bed the whole day until she got bored. Her body was starting to feel better. She decided to get off the bed and move around a little as there was no one else besides her at home.
The maid had already left and would usually only return before dinnertime to prepare the meal. She noticed a magazine in the living room and picked it up. On the cover of the magazine was none other than Jay himself.
He was both handsome and successful. Maisy was still wondering if everything that had happened the past few days was real or just a dream. She still had a hard time believing that she was going to get pregnant with the child of the man on the cover of a famous financial magazine.
Maisy’s thought was disrupted by a series of doorbells. As she was the only one present, she had no choice but to answer the door.
Outside stood a tall and gorgeous lady. She had a stack of documents in her hand as she peeked into the house.
“Where’s Mr. Hamilton?” Lily Thomas, the visitor, asked in an arrogant attitude. She didn’t even look at Maisy as if the girl in casual clothes did not warrant her attention.
“Um… He just left not long ago,” Maisy replied.
Lily scoffed before pushing Maisy aside and heading into the house. She poured herself a cup of tea and sat down, acting as if she was the owner and Maisy was the outsider.
Lily took a sip of her cup of tea before asking, “You are the girl that Mr. Hamilton brought back, right?”
Maisy sat down on the couch with the help of the handle on it. She did not answer Lily’s question as she found the visitor rude for barging into someone else’s home.
The visitor let out a sigh and took a name card out of her pocket for Maisy.
“I’m Mr. Hamilton’s assistant. I’m here to give him my daily report,” Lily explained with a smile. She then scanned the young lady in front of her from top to bottom, unable to understand why her boss would pick such a normal-looking girl. However, she quickly dismissed her thought as she had seen a lot of women come and go around Jay.
After a moment of silence, Lily added, “A piece of advice. Don’t fall for Mr. Hamilton. A man as perfect as him has many admirers surrounding him, and you’re just one of the lucky few that got picked by him. But don’t for a second think that you’re special to him. You’re just another nobody to him. I’ve worked with him for more than seven years, and I know him very well.”
Maisy bit her lips and remained silent to Lily’s provocation. She understood what Jay’s assistant was trying to say. The relationship between Jay and her was nothing more than a trade. After giving birth to his child, they would become strangers again.
However, the idea of that did hurt Maisy’s heart a little.
After Lily had emptied her cup, she got up from the couch with the documents she had brought with her.
