The 99th Divorce - Chapter 2109
Chapter 2109: Promise Me One Thing
When Shen Manting heard this, she quickly scanned her surroundings before whispering, “Is it expensive to dine here?”
“Well… It’s not that expensive,” replied Shen Luo’an.
Shen Manting looked down and nodded her head before continuing, “Alright. Let’s come here more often if it isn’t that expensive. I really like this place. The scenery looks so beautiful.”
“Sure,” Shen Luo’an agreed.
After which, he took a sip of red wine, his eyes filled with tenderness.
After dinner, Shen Manting still seemed to be in high spirits.
She clung onto Shen Luo’an’s arm and asked, “Dear, do you usually do other things besides doing work and playing with the baby?”
“When there’s nobody he can hang out with or play with, what else does he do?” Shen Manting wondered.
Shen Manting was very curious.
After all, he had lots of time to himself recently.
Although, he does spend most of his time keeping her company.
If she hadn’t seen him so busy with work today, she would have thought that he would simply laze around every single day.
Shen Luo’an looked at her and smiled before replying, “When you were still in a coma, I would simply do some work and bring the baby over to visit you. I would also sleep. That’s pretty much all that I’ve been doing every day, all my life.”
During the two years, he had been caught up in self-reproach and led a decadent life for close to one year.
During that period of time, he contemplated suicide a few times as a means to atone for what he had done and if it hadn’t been for Xiao Yue’er who was still very young, he wouldn’t be here right now.
Eventually, his condition slowly improved under Shen Zhilie’s counselling and guidance.
However, he continued to immerse himself in work.
His life was mundane, it was almost robotic for every single day, he would go to work, then to the hospital before going back home.
This was all he did, repeatedly, every single day.
He was like a soulless puppet. A walking dead.
Fortunately, she eventually regained consciousness.
He had constantly worried about how one day, she would wake up only to loathe him greatly for everything he had done to her and blame him for what has happened to her.
However, none of that happened.
She simply woke up one day and had forgotten everything.
It was as if he had never committed those sins.
It was great.
But Shen Luo’an felt increasingly uneasy whenever he faced the twelve-year-old Shen Manting.
He does not know if she would ever come round and remember what had happened and this could happen anytime.
If her mind became lucid again someday, what would he have to face?
Shen Luo’an does not dare to think about it, even to this day.
Disbelief was evident on Shen Manting’s face yet at the same time, it seemed as if she had expected this and when Shen Luo’an saw her expression, his heart gradually softened.
He reached out his hands and pulled her into his arms before he softly said, “I only felt alive after you woke up.”
His sudden confession made Shen Manting’s heart ache slightly.
She hugged him tightly and remained silent.
Shen Luo’an looked down and whispered, “Promise me one thing.”
“Alright,” Shen Manting agreed. “Dear, I’ll agree to anything that you say.”
Shen Luo’an’s heart turned even softer but at the same time, he also felt a deep, dull sense of pain stabbing at his heart.
“Manting, promise me that you’ll never leave me, no matter what happens, alright?” he said.
When Shen Manting heard this, she found it slightly odd for it was extremely out of the blue but nevertheless, she nodded her head and said, “I promise. I’ll never leave you, Dear.”
“Remember what you’ve promised,” he said.
“I’ll remember,” she assured.
“Swear on your words,” he said.
“I swear,” she said.
Shen Luo’an hugged her, well aware of the current situation.
Everything was too easy.
Nothing will happen the way he wishes or imagines.
When she regains her memories, she would still hate him.
Shen Luo’an felt slightly afraid.
His current happiness would all dissolve into nothingness, like a bubble. They would be gone without a trace once she comes round.
“Manting, I… really love you,” he said.
“Me too. I love you very, very much,” she declared.
