Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution - Chapter 162
Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Stepping on the Golden Crab
Everyone’s gaze turned to Lin Shen, as Goddess Consort Bai had now specifically called for him to fight. To them, this seemed like Goddess Consort Bai wanted to see just how capable someone from Tiancheng really was.
Nobody suspected that there was any connection between Tian and Lin Shen, because it was clear to everyone that Tian was practicing Evolution Theory, whereas they believed Lin Shen was practicing Talent Theory. Naturally, no one thought to link the two together.
When Lin Shen heard Goddess Consort Bai calling him into battle, he couldn’t help but be slightly startled.
Although he and Wei Wufu had joined this operation, and nominally they were under the command of Goddess Consort Bai, he had not expected her to select him as the first to fight.
There were plenty of Crystal Base individuals here, any one of whom could have dealt with the Mutated Alloy Crab, yet Goddess Consort Bai insisted on having him, an Alloy, take action. Clearly, this was not a reasonable arrangement.
Generally, humans of the Alloy Level were at a disadvantage against Mutated Alloy Creatures. Hadn’t they seen those seven or eight Alloy Level individuals with so many pets still unable to contend with the Alloy Crab?
In truth, Lin Shen didn’t want to make a move for two reasons: first, there was no need, and second, even if he killed the Mutated Alloy Crab, the spoils of war would have to be distributed by the team. Killing the Mutated Alloy Crab might result in a larger share, but exclusive possession was impossible.
However, since Goddess Consort Bai, the commander, had spoken, it wouldn’t be right for him to damage her dignity.
As Lin Shen walked towards the Mutated Alloy Crab, he thought to himself, “Now that I’ve taken on the identity of someone from Tiancheng, I can’t let down Tiancheng’s name, otherwise I would be doing a disservice to Wei.”
With that thought, Lin Shen decided to quickly and cleanly dispatch the Mutated Alloy Crab. To him, an Alloy Mutated Creature was nothing much.
The only problem was that Lin Shen’s combat skills were really not that great; he only knew one stabbing move, and he didn’t carry weapons like spears. Death Powder was inconvenient to use, so with what skill could he kill the Mutated Alloy Crab?
If the fight looked too ugly, even if he killed the Mutated Alloy Crab, people would think that someone from Tiancheng was just so-so.
Lin Shen knew Wei Wufu wouldn’t care about these matters, but he couldn’t act that way.
The crowd only saw Lin Shen slowly walking step by step toward the Mutated Alloy Crab, calm and composed, with the bearing of an expert. They couldn’t imagine that Lin Shen’s slow pace was purely to buy time while he considered what means to use to kill the Mutated Alloy Crab.
Lin Shen now truly understood what it meant to regret not learning enough when it was necessary. Having not followed Wei Wufu to properly learn skills before, he now didn’t even know how to put on a formidable front or show off.
“I’m not skilled in fancy techniques, so I should keep it simple and avoid hassle,” thought Lin Shen. After consideration, he decided to use Stepping on the Immortal Court.
Apart from his stabbing move, Stepping on the Immortal Court was the only other usable skill he had. He practiced Stepping on the Immortal Court far more frequently than his stabbing move since it could be exercised even while walking normally.
Once he had made up his mind, Lin Shen no longer hesitated, and he was almost within the Mutated Alloy Crab’s combat range.
Lin Shen timed his move perfectly—his pace suddenly quickened with just one step, and within a few strides, his speed had increased to an extremely fast level. Then he leaped up, passing beside the swinging pincers of the Mutated Alloy Crab, and landed a heavy stomp between the eyes of the Mutated Alloy Crab, where a prominent weak spot was located.
To ensure he didn’t embarrass Tiancheng, Lin Shen made thorough preparations.
Lin Shen had reserved some maneuvers for any contingency, not expecting to easily get past the Mutated Alloy Crab’s pincers, rendering the maneuvers unnecessary.
When Lin Shen’s foot landed between the eyes of the Mutated Alloy Crab, even he was startled by his own action.
His stomp crushed the hard golden carapace of the giant crab, piercing it as one leg sunk directly in.
Lin Shen had not expected this; he thought his stomp would at most daze the golden crab, not puncture through it.
Fortunately, his reactions were quick enough. His other foot planted on the shell, he pushed off powerfully, yanking his trapped leg out and launched himself towards the ground.
Everything happened too swiftly. To others, it looked as if Lin Shen had approached the giant golden crab, leapt up, smashed its carapace, and then landed effortlessly.
Behind Lin Shen, the massive body of the golden crab crashed to the ground, convulsed a couple of times, and then went still.
“Tiancheng, truly worthy of its reputation. A little-known Alloy Mutator from Tiancheng can crush a mutated Alloy Creature with a casual stomp. Their ability is truly unlike ordinary people.” Many harbored such thoughts.
They just felt that Lin Shen was formidable, but didn’t find anything unreasonable because he was from Tiancheng, where some irregularities were normal.
But to Bai Shenfei, this was very abnormal.
She knew that Lin Shen wasn’t from Tiancheng. He was cultivating the common Evolution Theory, and without using weapons or pets, how could he crush the carapace of the golden crab with one stomp?
Lin Shen was at the Alloy Level; his attributes could not be much stronger than the golden crab’s, and might even be inferior since the crab was a mutated being with innately strong attributes, particularly the toughness of its carapace, which was obviously top-notch.
Lin Shen crushing its hardest carapace with pure strength defied explanation; it was rare to see such dominance among peers.
“Could it be his Innate Skill?” Bai Shenfei hadn’t seen Lin Shen use an Innate Skill, but apart from this, she couldn’t imagine how he achieved it.
What she didn’t know was that Lin Shen’s strength attribute far surpassed that of his peers; he didn’t need to use an Innate Skill to dominate them.
This stomp bolstered Lin Shen’s confidence in his own strength and the effectiveness of Stepping on the Immortal Court, especially the latter, more useful than he had thought. What lacked was only combat experience.
When Lin Shen returned, the nearby Mutators complimented him warmly, and Lin Shen responded just as amiably.
Bai Shenfei said nothing, and Ouyang Yudu merely smiled at him without a word.
“Confidence.” When he returned to Wei Wufu’s side, Wei Wufu spoke just two words.
Lin Shen nodded; he knew Wei Wufu was commenting on his lack of confidence. But since it was his first time using it against an enemy and he was unaware of its depth, how could he be so confident?
Regardless, Lin Shen’s stomp managed to preserve Tiancheng’s prestige and didn’t embarrass Wei Wufu.
Little did he know that Wei Wufu was deep in thought. After observing Lin Shen using Stepping on the Immortal Court, he felt Lin Shen’s movement technique had great potential, which had to be stimulated through real combat.
Wei Wufu had already begun planning how to awaken Lin Shen’s potential upon their return.
