When An Xiaoyan woke up, Gu Jun had already gone. There was obvious sink on the other side of the bed. The clothes which Gu Jun borrowed were left on the table. Last night was like a dream. Gu Jun came and went quietly.
An Xiaoyan went to the pharmacy to work just like the day before. When he tried to pull the door open, he found that it was locked.
Only then did he notice the sign hanging on it, “Suspension of business”.
He had a bad feeling about these words. He silently prayed in his heart that nothing would happen. It must be that the boss had not arrived yet.
An Xiaoyan stood at the door and waited. Time flew by and there was still no one in the pharmacy by noon. Occasionally, there were a few people who came by to buy medicine. However, when they saw that the door was locked, they went to another location to make their purchase.
At 12 p.m., the employees from the shops nearby were all having their lunch break. A fruit vendor saw An Xiaoyan standing outside all morning and kindly reminded him not to wait any longer. The sun was too strong and one could get a heatstroke easily.
“Sir, do you know why this shop hasn’t opened yet?”
“Oh. Nobody told you? This shop is closed on the 1st of every month.”
An Xiaoyan had just worked for a day and was not familiar with his colleagues. Thus, he naturally did not know about this. Selling medicine around the hospital perimeter should be a profitable business. He wondered why the pharmacy was not opened for business.
Despite his questions, An Xiaoyan still politely thanked the fruit vendor.
Initially, he intended to go back home, but he changed his mind and walked to the hospital after seeing the signboard of Hua Kang Hospital.
Since he did not need to work today, he decided to visit his benefactor, Liu Cheng.
He went straight to the Director’s Office as usual. Before he reached the office, the director’s assistant saw An Xiaoyan and told him that the director was not in.
In An Xiaoyan’s impression, although Liu Cheng was not a person known for being keenly hardworking, he was never absent.
What is happening today? First the pharmacy, and then Liu Cheng…
With his heart full of doubts, An Xiaoyan went straight home. He did not think that these two incidents were related to Gu Jun.
Liu Cheng’s arm was dislocated by Gu Jun. He went back to his apartment. After tending to his arm, he lay down and his phone rang.
It was Liu Lianxun.
“Hello, Dad. It’s 3 a.m. now. Is anything wrong?”
Liu Cheng sounded tired, and Liu Lianxun surely had noticed it. But his anger was too much to calm down. He shouted in the phone at Liu Cheng, “Come back now, I have something urgent to ask you!”
When Liu Cheng heard that, he knew that it must be something to do with his doings. Maybe it also had something to do with Gu Jun. He put on his clothes and got up from the bed. He had no idea where Gu Jun’s bodyguard parked his car at. Now he had to take a taxi to get home.
The road was empty at 3 p.m.. Liu Cheng stood at the intersection for half an hour without a taxi passing by. Liu Lianxun called again.
“Have you arrived yet?”
“Father, I haven’t got onto a taxi yet.”
Liu Lianxun was very anxious as his son did not know the seriousness of the matter and had not hurried over yet!
“Where are you? I’ll ask Uncle Liu to pick you up.”
Liu Cheng told him the address, and soon a car stopped beside him.
After getting on the car, Uncle Liu kindly reminded the young master that the master was in a bad mood, so he had better be careful.
“What’s wrong with my father, asking me to go back in the middle of the night?”
Uncle Liu answered truthfully, “I don’t know either. Master answered a phone call just now and he became like this.”
Liu Cheng thought in his heart that Gu Jun’s influence had reached them. Although his father was not a man who had full control of the city, his father was an influential person. He had never seen his father behave like this before. It seemed that this would certainly not be a good thing.
Once they arrived at Liu Residence, Liu Lianxun was already waiting in the living room. Seeing his son, he shouted “unfilial son!”
“Dad, what is going on here? You have to tell me.”
“Kneel down!”
“Dad…” Liu Cheng was already 26 years old, an age that is too old to kneel. Moreover, if news spread, how would others think of him?
“Kneel down!” Liu Lianxun used his walking stick to hit Liu Cheng on the knee. Liu Cheng fell to his knees and knelt on the ground.
“Father, what’s wrong with you today?” It was the first time in Liu Cheng’s life that he had to suffer so many grievances in a single day. First, it was Gu Jun, and then his father.
“Aren’t you ashamed to ask what happened? Why did you provoke Gu Jun? Even though our family had some connections with them… You should be very clear what kind of people they are!”
Liu Cheng was even more puzzled when he heard the second half of the sentence. He never heard about the connections his family had with Gu Family. From his dad’s tone, he could tell that it was not a minor matter.
Gu Jia was notorious for its power and cold-bloodedness in the city. If the Gu family had their eyes on a company, that company was bound to be annexed. This was also the reason why so many family businesses were unwilling to provoke the Gu family.
Fortunately, the Gu family did give smaller companies opportunities for development and would not kill them all.
“What is the matter between our family and the Gu family?”
Liu Lianxun knew it was time to tell his son. Although he was very unwilling to have any relationship with the Gu family, it was a fact. Even when the fact was well-hidden, the connection still existed.
“It started with your grandfather.”
“Your grandfather, my father, collaborated with the Gu family at that time. It was so peaceful, but Gu Jun’s grandfather should be attracted to your grandfather’s fiancée at that time.”
“At that time, the Gu family was not as powerful, and our Liu family was also influential. However, your grandfather was a visionary, he knew that Gu Jun’s grandfather would be able to accomplish great things in the future, thus he sacrificed his fiancée to Gu Jun’s grandfather.”
“As expected, the Gu family made great strides afterward. However, our influence had been gradually reduced under suppression. Fortunately, at that time, Gu Jun’s grandfather held gratitude to your grandfather for his kindness and promised not to fight against our family in the future.”
After hearing that, Liu Cheng asked, “Didn’t the Gu family say that they would not go against our Liu family in the future?”
Liu Lianxun sighed, “That’s what I worry about. Since I was a child, your grandfather had told me never to provoke the Gu family. Although it seems that our Liu family was the benefactor of the Gu family, your grandfather’s years of collaboration with the Gu family made him understand that one would not want the Gu family as his enemy. If someone from the Liu family provokes them, maybe our Liu family will be destroyed.”
“So that’s the reason why you don’t want me to provoke the Gu family?”
“They are too powerful to do whatever they want. And we have made peace for so many years by sacrificing our profits. Do you know how worried I am when I heard that Gu Jun paid you a visit?”
Hearing this all out, Liu Cheng knew that his father meant well for him. However, it seemed useless to say anything now that he had done what he had done.
“In the future, stay away from Gu Jun. As far as I know, Gu Jun is like a cannibal who does not leave bones behind after killing the person. If you compete with him, there is absolutely no chance of winning. The amicable relationship between our families has almost worn off before your generation.”
