Rebirth Of The Noble Mage Behind The Scenes Novel - Chapter 24
Chapter 24: No worries, lets play some Arcane Duel first
“I hope my arrival didn’t disturb your studies, Fi.”
After the maid reported, Anvis, who was dressed in a white gown with a silver magic book hanging on his waist, walked in with a smile.
“No, nothing like that. I’m glad you came to find me, brother.”
The blonde girl shook her head happily. She was happy to have an excuse to get out of this situation. Annie could only smile helplessly. She did not dare to interrupt the siblings’ conversation.
“Alright, my dear Fi, do you want to play a round of Arcane Duel?”
Noticing Annie’s manner and the book beside the girl, Anvis smiled softly, pretending not to know what she was thinking.
“Of course—Annie, bring our card decks and the game board.”
Fiona big blue eyes lit up. She liked Anvis’s suggestion.
The Arcane Duel was a card game with a variety of cards. The game modes was divided into two categories: Turn-based mode or Instant mode.
Either way, the players had to rely on the effect of their cards to reduce the opponent’s health points to zero.
Due to the existence of magic, the cards in this world could summon magic power projections corresponding to the card face.
Arcane Duel was a very popular game among nobles, and Anvis and Fiona were naturally very good at it. However, due to their low level, the two of them usually played the Turn-based mode.
Normally, the odds between the two of them would be about sixty to forty, but today was Fiona’s birthday, after all, so Anvis decided to go easy on her.
……
After an hour.
At this moment, Fiona activated the Arcane Spell Card [Dragon’s Covenant] and summoned all the beings on the sacrifice field, including the [Frost Dragon Cinesis].
An ice-cold dragon descended amidst a series of illusory dragon roars. With an extremely cold roar, it sent the last remaining [Undead Mage] in Anvis’ battleground back to the graveyard and also reduced his remaining 10 points of life to 7 points.
The girl proudly announced that the round was over and planned to finish Anvis in the next round.
When the Undead Mage died, he summoned three [Skeleton Archers]. However, the three cards that each had one life and one damage were not much difference in front of the dragon.
Furthermore, when the Frost Dragon appeared, it had brought Houndhead Men with four HP and five damage. Even if the three Skeletal Archers focused their attacks, they would not be able to kill even one monster.
The young girl held her fair and tender face adorably and gradually fell into some sort of fantasy.
What if Anvis pleaded with the clever and lovely Miss Fiona, “I concede defeat. Please cut me some slack.” What could he do?
Even though her ungentlemanly brother had won three rounds against her in a row, the gentle and kind Fiona was a qualified lady and would not argue with him.
Slightly ~ ~ finishing him off shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Well, that’s settled then ~
Looking at the girl who thought that victory was in her grasp and was fantasizing about something, Anvis revealed a strange smile.
“Then, it’s my turn.”
“Spell Card [Dimension Exile] is activated. Additional super magic skill [Spell Extreme Effect] will banish the Dragon of Frost, Cinesis, into the void.”
The Frost Dragon had nine lives, and it only lasted one round.
An illusory black hole appeared in the air and engulfed the mighty Frost Dragon hovering above Fiona’s arena, leaving behind furious roar.
“Secret Skill Card [Deceiver] activated. Freeze an unactivated secret skill card in this round.”
Anvis suddenly flipped open a secret card in the arena. An illusory bronze chain tied up the only secret card left in Fiona’s arena, causing the girl to grind her teeth.
“Spell Card [Dead Cloud Spell] has been activated. All the creatures of the enemy have received 5 points of poison damage. There is an additional effect on the race that needs to breathe air.”
The yellowish-green mist immediately enveloped Fiona’s arena, and a transparent magic shield flashed, but it failed to completely block the deadly mist.
The four Houndhead Men who were brought along by the dragon were instantly poisoned. Although their damage was reduced by 2 by the Mana Barrier, the Houndhead Men with only 4 HP still died collectively from suffocation.
“Secret Skill Card [Balance Scale] activated. Five points of life in exchange for five points of magic power.”
A bronze scale projection appeared above the crystal runes representing Anvis.
The blue glow of the runes dimmed and almost went out. There were originally seven points of life left, but only two points were left.
“Activate Spell Card [Corpse Explosion]. Depending on the number of corpses on the battlefield, multiply by two-thirds of the maximum number of corpses, it will cause damage to the entire battlefield.”
The corpses of the four Houndhead Men that had just died suddenly turned into a strange dark green color. Their bodies gradually expanded and distorted, and then they exploded violently in a pale green light.
As there were no more creatures on the field, the terrifying damage was completely applied to Fiona’s crystal rune. The blue light from the rune, which was originally quite bright, instantly fell to a precarious state.
At the same time, Anvis suddenly noticed Fiona’s teary eyes and his heart skipped a beat.
Oh no, he had accidentally forgotten about going easy on her!
Other than the first round, he seemed to have been winning…
‘Brother bullied me…’
In the face of the silent accusation in the girl’s eyes, Anvis could not help but sweat.
However, it was already too late. As he finished casting his spell, the three Skeleton Archers immediately released their arrows.
Three tiny bone arrow projections slammed into Fiona’s runes.
The rune lit up, and with a crisp crack, it was completely extinguished.
Seeing that the crystal rune representing her own life had completely shattered, the young girl’s eyes immediately became dull.
Fiona pursed her lips and looked at Anvis with her big blue eyes. Her blonde hair was not as bright as usual.
Anvis spoke quickly, trying to make amends.
“Let’s call it a day.”
The first sentence raised Fiona’s resentment.
Run after winning!?
Fortunately, Anvis’ next move made the petite girl put aside her unhappiness from the consecutive defeats.
“I have a present for you.”
The pale-skinned noble smiled gracefully and flipped his right hand. An elegant gift box appeared in his hand.
The box was pure white, squarish, and embedded with a light blue gemstone. Two simple golden lines crossed the box from the two ends of the gemstone. There were no signs of the box being pieced together, it was seamless.
Fiona happily accepted the gift box but didn’t know how to open it. She looked at Anvis with her big watery eyes.
The latter smiled, caught the girl’s white hand, and gently tapped the gem in the center of the box.
“Fi, happy birthday—”
The gem emitted a faint blue glow, and the mysterious blue patterns gradually spread to the entire box like sprouts and vines.
With a soft crack, the integrated box cracked open and slowly opened up in Fiona’s hand.
“Meow—”
There was a silk cushion in the box, and a small furry head poked out, meeting the girl’s expectant gaze.
It was a cute little kitten with a blue-gray back and a snow-white belly. It was using its two furry white paws to cling onto the edge of the box, looking at her curiously with its big round blue and green eyes.
“Wow! So cute! Thank you, brother—”
“Meow ~”
The little girl cried out in surprise and held the cute cat in her hands. The light golden soft hair and the cat’s white belly made for an interesting contrast.
The little cat sniffed Fiona’s white fingers and licked them gently. Then she let out a cry and hugged the cat.
“She’s a four-month-old Kalkersa Shorthair cat. I’ve already asked for our father’s acceptance, and he’s agreed that you be allowed to keep her in the castle.”
Looking at the warm and beautiful scene in front of him, Anvis couldn’t help but feel a faint warmth in his heart. A smile that came from the bottom of his heart rose on his face.
“You know what, Fi? There’s an old legend about them—”
Upon hearing that Anvis was going to tell her a story, Fiona immediately perked up and sat down beside him. Her big blue eyes sparkled with excitement as she stared at Anvis.
Even though she was old enough to be independent, the girl still liked to hear Anvis tell stories for her.
“According to the legends, their origin was actually not this world! Instead, they descended into this world from the dark side of the purple moon Ames”
Anvis gently stroked the young girl’s small head. She narrowed her eyes in pleasure and snuggled against his shoulder like a kitten.
“It is said that there are still several mysterious kingdoms belonging to the cats on the dark side of Ames…”
