Rebirth of the Heavenly Empress - Chapter 237
Chapter 237: An Illegitimate Young Mistress
Only the first and fourth elders were inside the main hall. The two of them looked up to see that Su Huiqing and Dugu Heng had indeed come.
They didn’t say anything but their disdain was clear.
As expected, the Su Family mother-daughter duo would not be so easily scared off.
Anyway, the Dugu Family was so powerful and prosperous. No one would give up the opportunity to be part of the family.
It was not just the two elders. Even the ancestral hall caretaker Dugu Ming was watching Su Huiqing somewhat scornfully.
She had just known of her relationship to Dugu Heng and was already clamoring to enter the Dugu Family. How could anyone not realize her motives?
Dugu Heng noticed his scornful look.
He glanced mildly at Dugu Ming and said coldly, “Uncle Ming, do speak up now if you have anything to say. After today, Qingqing will be the rightful young mistress of the Dugu Family.”
He was addressing Dugu Ming, but everyone in the ancestral hall knew that Dugu Heng’s comment was meant to suppress them all.
Dugu Ming and the elders all felt a chill.
But Su Huiqing was oblivious to it all.
She surveyed the entire ancestral hall. Dressed in her usual white shirt and black pants, she looked fresh and lovely.
A casual smile hung upon her lips.
The elders noted her indifference and thought that she must be feeling very smug just because she was Dugu Heng’s daughter. The first elder was angered. “Master Dugu, look at her. Which part of her is like a Dugu Family member?! We need to discuss further on today’s ancestral rites!”
“We beg Master Dugu to reconsider!” The others piped up their support.
Dugu Heng possessed his formidable skills from a young age. The entire Dugu Family, including the elders, had always treated him with fear and trepidation. None of them dared to openly provoke Dugu Heng.
All these years, Dugu Heng never had any children. Even Dugu Wu was only acknowledged by the Dugu Family matriarch. Dugu Heng completely disregarded her. Both Dugu Wu and the Dugu Family matriarch had never even entered the Dugu Family’s main house before.
And so those elders could only turn a blind eye to things.
But this was different.
Dugu Heng now had a biological daughter who was of an impure bloodline. All the elders heaved a sigh of relief at this.
But now, Dugu Heng actually wanted to give Su Huiqing a major share of the resources.
How could these elders endure that?
Dugu Heng was a fool, but the first elder was not. He knew that these two would never take their greedy clutches off the Dugu Family resources. It wouldn’t matter so much, these two knew their place. The Dugu Family was wealthy enough to feed two extra mouths.
But it looked like these two were more greedy and scheming than that.
Never mind. They would let these two know how the disparity between them was as wide as the distance between heaven and hell.
It would not be that easy to enter the Dugu Family.
Dugu Heng’s face remained unchanging at the first elder’s words. He turned to look at Su Huiqing. He was relieved when he saw that she was not offended at all.
The warmth on his face faded as he turned back to glare at the elders. “You have so many opinions on me acknowledging my own daughter? As for those resources, I recall that I have always had a spot which I have never utilized over the past 20 years. Is there a problem with me taking it back now?”
The fourth elder spoke up righteously. “We already agreed that for Ms. Su to enter, she must compete against our disciples. You promised that she will compete.”
Dugu Heng sneered. “I said that I will let her enter the family. Did I say I will let her compete? Letting an ordinary person who has never trained before compete—you old fellows are truly shameless. Aren’t you worried that we will be made a laughing stock if the other families get wind of this?”
Su Huiqing tucked her hands into her pockets. She glanced at Dugu Heng with raised eyebrows.
This Dugu Heng is truly formidable. Just a few words from him and none of the elders dared to utter another sound.
Only he would have the audacity to do this. A daughter whom he had not taken care of for the past 20 years, and a girl whom he was particularly fond of. Now that she was here, he just wanted to hold her and protect her in the palm of his hands. How could he bear to let these elders bully her?!
He even dared to exile the Dugu Family matriarch, who was his own birth mother. These elders were nothing to him.
Still holding her cell phone, Su Huiqing’s fingers shifted slightly.
If anyone took a closer look, they would see the silver glint reflected from those fair fingertips.
But she immediately retracted it.
“Qingqing, remember that from now on, if anyone from the Dugu Family bullies you, just shoot them. I will handle the aftermath.” Dugu Heng gazed warmly at Su Huiqing after threatening the elders.
With her cell phone still in hand, Su Huiqing just glanced sideways at Dugu Heng with her pitch-black eyes. She then asked with a big smile. “Where is my mother?”
“At the back.” Reminded of Su Ruohua, Dugu Heng turned to look at the caretaker. “Go invite Ruohua in. Also, Qingqing is going to pay her respects to our ancestors. This is such a major occasion. Why are there only two elders? Where are the other five? Where is the grand deacon? Where are all the disciples?! Go and notify them all. If they still refuse to turn up, tell them that they don’t ever need to come back again!”
The first elder was so angry that his heart ached.
Making all the elders come over just for this commoner.
And he even wanted to force their disciples to bow down to this useless piece of trash? Just because she is the Young Mistress of the Dugu Family? She had no other worthy qualities!
Nevertheless, no one dared to oppose the domineering Dugu Heng.
Anyway, it was a done deal that Su Huiqing would be joining the family tree.
As much the rest of the Dugu Family disdained Su Huiqing, they couldn’t help feeling envious when they saw Dugu Heng favoring her with the title of the sole Young Mistress of the Dugu Family.
After all, he was still… the great Dugu Heng.
Su Huiqing was leaning against a pillar in the main hall, nonchalantly listening to those elders argue. She put on her earphones and narrowed her eyes lazily, when a childish voice suddenly piped up.
“Don’t think that you can replace Sister Xing just because you are back.”
Su Huiqing raised her brows and looked down to see a young girl of about age 10.
She took off her earphones and glanced at her.
Su Huiqing’s manner was as calm and cool as always, and the little girl was slightly taken aback. But she quickly recomposed herself and glared viciously at Su Huiqing. “My brother will be back soon. Don’t you dare snatch away Sister Xing’s place!”
Su Huiqing raised one brow and reached out to lift the girl up. She slowly drew her closer, smiling all the time.
Her arm was steady even though the girl must have weighed at least 30kg.
Her smile was charming as always, but her voice was low and suppressed. “What Sister Xing?”
The girl didn’t expect Su Huiqing to lift her and bring her so close. Her fair face blushed a deep red.
“You… you… you…”
“Talk properly.” Su Huiqing reached out her other hand and patted her face with a smirk. “Let me ask you another question. Who told you I wanted to snatch your Sister Xing’s place?”
After seeing that the girl was refusing to speak, Su Huiqing loosened her grip. She smiled sweetly. “What is your name?”
“Dugu Jiyun.” The girl responded without thinking. Su Huiqing’s voice had been too alluring.
The girl immediately looked vexed at the fact that she replied.
Su Huiqing just smiled. Here was someone in the Dugu Family who finally interested her.
Suddenly, a gentle voice drifted over. “Jiyun, come here.”
“Sister Xing!” Dugu Jiyun’s eyes lit up.
Su Huiqing turned toward the person. It was a lady dressed in an aqua-colored dress. She looked very lovely and gentle. Reaching out to hold Dugu Jiyun’s hand, her posture was straight and erect.
Hearing her arrival, everyone greeted her respectfully. “Ms. Xing.”
Even the elders acknowledged her.
There was a huge difference in their attitude toward her, compared to their scornful treatment of Su Huiqing.
She was probably one of the more important descendants of the Dugu Family.
Su Huiqing just looked away nonchalantly and replaced her earphones.
Dugu Xing led Dugu Jiyun over to greet Dugu Heng first.
Dugu Heng proudly introduced Su Huiqing to Dugu Xing. “Little Xing, this is my daughter. She will also be a member of the training grounds in the future. I hope that you will take good care of her.”
Su Huiqing remained silent. Wasn’t she just a commoner in the eyes of the Dugu Family? Why was Dugu Heng still introducing her with such pride?
“I know.” Dugu Xing smiled as she gazed mildly at Su Huiqing.
She was slightly taken aback when she observed that exquisitely clear face. Nevertheless, she wasn’t too bothered.
Although this was Dugu Heng’s daughter, she had never trained before and possessed an impure bloodline. Only Dugu Heng would take this illegitimate young mistress seriously.
Who else would respect her?
Whenever people talked about the Dugu Family descendants, they only ever mentioned Ms. Xing. No one had even heard of the name Su Huiqing. She would never be able to drum up any support.
Her 20-over years of training, her status in the Dugu Family, her reputation and achievements. These were not things that an illegitimate commoner could compare with.
