Rebirth: Ghost Exorciser - Chapter 1095
Chapter 1095: Disagreeable Man
Just as Mother Qi said, as soon as Chi Shuyan and Qi Zhenbai entered, Grandpa Qi looked at them expectantly, his wrinkled face revealing an amiable and loving expression.
Qi Zhenbai called out first, “Grandpa!”
Chi Shuyan also greeted him. Seeing that the couple seemed to be doing well, Grandpa Qi chuckled and said, “It’s good that you’re back! It’s good that you’re back! After dinner tonight, stay the night!”
After saying that, the old man said to Chi Shuyan, “Zhenbai’s wife, I haven’t seen you in a long while. Stay here tonight and let me take a good look at you.”
Without waiting for Qi Zhenbai to speak, Chi Shuyan agreed obediently. “Okay, Grandpa! You can look as much as you like later!”
Her words coaxed the old man into beaming and laughing.
Grandpa Qi had the two of them sit down. Father Qi, Second Uncle Qi, and the others were busy with their own things and weren’t in the living room. Qi Yunchang and the other cousins weren’t in the living room either. Thinking of Shuyan’s chess skills, Grandpa Qi waved for the child to come over and play chess with him before dinner.
Chi Shuyan smiled and immediately sat down next to the old man. When she drew a black piece, she said with a smile, “Grandpa, it doesn’t make a difference who goes first in this game. As the saying goes, respect the old and cherish the young. You go first!”
“Cheeky!” Grandpa Qi chuckled and put down a chess piece, then Chi Shuyan did the same.
While Grandpa Qi was playing chess, he didn’t forget to ask Zhenbai about meeting his future father-in-law in the military district. He asked, “Zhenbai? Did you listen to me and say hello to your future father-in-law?”
When Chi Shuyan heard this, she looked up at the straight and cold man in front of her. Without waiting for the man to speak, Grandpa Qi directly asked Chi Shuyan, “Zhenbai’s wife, let me ask you the question instead. Did you see this kid greet your father on my behalf?”
Chi Shuyan thought that while her father pretended not to like Qi Zhenbai on the surface, he had long acknowledged him in his heart. Besides, this man had helped her and had occasionally helped to coax her father while in the military district. Her father had been very surprised that this man didn’t put on airs and also had a good temper – it was just that deep down, her father was worried that the two families weren’t on the same level.
He had been worried about her joining an “aristocratic” family where still waters ran deep, so he had deliberately ignored the man on the surface. This man had suffered a lot in the military district.
Chi Shuyan’s heart ached and she couldn’t help but feel a little guilty, so when the old man asked the question, she nodded without hesitation. She couldn’t help but say a lot of good things about the man without repeating herself, and she blinked at him.
Who would have thought that as soon as she looked up, the tall man in front of her shifted his gaze to the side without batting an eyelid.
Chi Shuyan: …
…
Grandpa Qi didn’t see their subtle movements, but when Shuyan said good things about Zhenbai, he couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “Your mouth is so sweet! Aren’t you afraid that this kid’s tail will wag so hard it’ll send him flying?”
Chi Shuyan couldn’t help but glance at the unmoving man in front of her again and thought that there was no way that would happen – he had always been calm, rational and restrained.
She then saw the man’s gaze shift from the side to the chess pieces on the table. She thought that he was a little interested, so she took the initiative to talk to him. “Do you want to play?”
Qi Zhenbai suddenly said to his grandfather, “Grandpa, I still have something on. Play chess with my wife first. I’ll come back later!”
Chi Shuyan: …
