Shen Qian lifted an eyelid, and glanced at him with indifference, devoid of emotions, “Pass.”
“A pair of kings, how about that?” The man threw out two more cards, his smile especially punchable.
Shen Qian chose to pass once more.
He Huai continued to play matching pairs, his strategy evident, “Ah Qian, I’ve got two cards left, so don’t cry if you end up losing.”
Shen Qian raised an eyebrow, “Is that so? Thanks for the reminder.” As he spoke, he laid down a pair of jokers.
He Huai was taken aback, his handsome face changing through several expressions, each one captivating in its own right.
The two people beside him were already laughing uncontrollably. “Ah Huai, you’re quite the flirt! You’re shameless! Now you know how tough it is, right?”
The one who spoke was Qin Zeyan, the young master of Xufeng Real Estate.
“Ah Qian, you should put him in his place! Otherwise, this guy will think he’s a gambling god. Only I and Zeyan are relatively bad at playing Landlord against him. Otherwise, why would he be so cocky?” Song Lin mercilessly mocked.
He Huai swallowed hard. “Don’t get too excited just yet, you two. I’ve only got two cards left, and Ah Qian still holds a bunch. It’s not a sure thing who wins or loses…”
The last three words were destined to stay trapped in his throat, for Shen Qian had already laid out the remaining cards, ranging from 3 to A, an exact sequence, unbroken.
“Damn it—” He Huai cursed, his face full of frustration, “You played a pair of jokers and a straight flush. You could have won long ago, but you kept me in suspense. Are you crazy?”
Upon hearing this, Shen Qian chuckled softly and said, “Seeing how thrilled you are, I’ll let you relish it for a bit.”
He Huai could only curse in his thoughts.
Qin Zeyan tossed the few cards he held onto the table, laughing heartily as he leaned back. “You brought this upon yourself! You were asking for it!”
“And you have the audacity to say that?! We’re both peasants! Peasants! Ah Qian is the landlord. You didn’t assist me in defeating him, but instead ridiculed your fellow peasants? Qin Zeyan, is there anyone as much of a liability to the team as you?”
Song Lin pulled him aside. “You peasant, you should step down. Let me play a round.”
He Huai’s face was that of a scorned woman, and his female companion approached softly to console him, but he heartlessly pushed her away, “Tell me, are you having your period? You’ve jinxed me for eight lifetimes of bad luck!”
His female companion was startled by his sudden change in demeanor and shook her head timidly. “I’m not…”
“Pfft!”
Soon, a woman’s scream echoed.
Shen Qian acted as if he hadn’t heard.
Song Lin was unfazed by the strangeness.
Only Qin Zeyan, his brows furrowing rapidly, didn’t say much either.
The three of them focused on their Landlord game.
He Huai seemed perplexed. “You’re really not menstruating at the moment? Then why did I end up losing?”
He turned around and sat on the sofa. Then, he kicked his female companion, signaling her to snap out of it, and then gestured toward the location of the wine bottle with a lift of his chin.
The woman wiped away her tears, walked over with a smile, and picked up the bottle in a half-kneeling posture, filling it up to about three-quarters full and handing it over. “Young Master He?”
The man offered a faint smile to her, yet his eyes held a hint of malice. “There’s too little wine; go ahead and finish it.”
The woman tilted her head back and took a sip.
Clap, clap, clap…
He Huai applauded, “Look at the way she drinks this glass, so elegant! Haven’t you been drinking a lot normally?”
The woman’s smile froze.
“Aren’t you the self-proclaimed innocent campus belle?” The man’s gaze landed on her chest, “Where’s your innocence?”
The woman’s face turned pale, and she swayed unsteadily.
“Hey, don’t fall over now. Spare me the ‘can’t handle alcohol’ excuse. I don’t get that sort of delicate pampering.”
“He Huai!” the woman shrieked, her voice resembling a broken gong, “You’ve gone too far with your bullying!”
With that, she angrily ran off, and there was a loud bang—
“Well, quite the temper you have, slamming the door like that?” He Huai touched his ear.
